Just let your soul
glow.
Speaker 5 (00:18):
That fucking, that
fucking shit's insane.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
Just let your soul
glow, just let it shine through.
Just let your soul glow, babyFeeling, oh so silky smooth.
Just let it shine through, justlet your sun glow, sun glow.
Speaker 5 (00:49):
That was the first
time they played saxophone in
the daytime in the movie.
By the way, they usually playsaxophone for nights when niggas
about to talk In that movieit's high noon, it's cool.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
Nigel, thank you so
much for having us on.
I absolutely love talkingmovies and we do listen to the
podcast.
Speaker 4 (01:09):
I love the show what
do you guys love most about the
podcast?
Speaker 2 (01:12):
Kev, what do you like
I?
Speaker 6 (01:14):
would say the going
back and re-watching a lot of
stuff.
Eddie's somebody who all threeof us grew up loving.
I've gotten away from watchingEddie Murphy movies the past
decade or so of stuff becauseeddie, somebody who obviously
all three of us grew up loving,I've kind of gotten away from
watching eddie murphy movies thepast decade or so, yeah, and
you don't really talk about thatmuch.
And then having eddie come back, you know, in the forefront of
my life's, like yeah, he put outsome great stuff and we always,
(01:38):
like I said, we look at thenegatives, we forget just how
big he was, because it'simpossible to explain to
somebody today what Eddie Murphywas in the 80s, right, but
there's revisiting the oldstuff's, like wow, I, I would
give anything to relive that,right.
I guess we kind of can withstreaming services and stuff
it's a trip down memory lane.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
It's.
It's like okay, this, there'ssome movies I've missed.
There's some movies I thoughtwere horrible when I first
watched it.
Now that I watched it, I'm like, okay, I've watched a.
There's some movies I thoughtwere horrible when I first
watched it.
Now that I watch it, I'm like, okay, I've watched a lot of bad
movies over the years and thisain't as bad as I remember it
being.
Some of them are bad.
When I watched Daddy Daycare, Iwas like I don't like this at
all.
Haunted Mansion I didn't carefor.
(02:22):
I still don't like Dr yeah, Idon't like.
As I rewatch, those are theonly movies that like I've had a
hard time watching.
Holy man, holy man I've had ahard time watching um, but it
there hasn't been that many thatI've had a hard time, while
even the ones that like arereally like people think are
really bad aren't as bad as youthink they are if you look at it
(02:43):
with a different lens.
I go for performance.
I don't go for the whole movie.
The movie could suck but theperformance could be good or
decent, and that's what it is.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
More of a softer
outlook on that, whereas I was
going into watching all thisstuff, just looking to rip apart
and looking for the negative.
And if you, if you do go backand you look at at least the
stuff that eddie's doing it'she's, he's at least trying gotta
(03:16):
give it to him we've beenwaiting for a long time yes,
we've been waiting for a long,long time.
Speaker 5 (03:26):
Good morning my
neighbor jesus christ this is
becoming very irritating.
Speaker 4 (03:46):

This week we are celebratingthe fourth anniversary of the
Murphy Monday podcast.
Yes, four years.
(04:06):
It's been since September 6thof 2020.
It's been a long road since Istarted the podcast.
I got married, I got on TV acouple of times, but then
sometime last year, a lot ofstuff slowed down, mostly
because I was in a bad caraccident and I was, uh,
(04:30):
wheelchair bound for a couplefor a couple months.
So I'm sorry I couldn't giveyou guys the episodes that you
wanted or that you needed.
But I'm back, I'm here.
We only have a couple movies togo.
To be honest with you, it's along road, but there's only a
handful of movies to go and I'mtrying to take my time.
I'm trying to let you guyslisten, catch up and watch the
(04:52):
movies with me and, you know, just have something for everyone
.
Since it's the anniversary, Iwant to talk about the top five
most downloaded episodes on thispodcast.
Number five on the list it'sthe very first episode that we
did.
The Dolomite is my name episode.
(05:12):
Yes, I did this with my goodfriend Neil Charles.
He was actually in the movie.
Dolomite is my name.
We actually have really funwith this one.
This is the first one I askedhim to do this.
I thank him for doing this.
He's part of this swatches andboom podcast which I've been on
a couple of times.
Why don't we sit here and takea listen?
Eddie Murphy's like five, eightand like Ken Abbey Wayne's is
(05:35):
like six, two.
Speaker 7 (05:37):
Right, Eddie Murphy's
a very small man.
He is very small man.
That that caught me by surprise, man, Because I've always felt
like he was a larger than lifedude and when I saw him I was
like yo, he was the opposite ofwhat I expected.
Wow, he's a very quiet, veryreclusive dude Like you.
Barely saw him until it wastime for him to act.
Speaker 4 (05:59):
When you saw him, did
you think you could take him um
, you know what that time, thattype of disrespect never,
entered my mind, nigel, thattype of disrespect, never
entered my mind.
Number four on the list is oneof my favorite movies the nutty
(06:23):
professor episode.
Yes, I love the movie NuttyProfessor.
It's one of the movies thatmade me.
It made me start doing stand-up.
It made me more of an EddieMurphy fan.
It was Eddie Murphy's comebackstory.
It was the thing that, like, kept him relevant in the 90s.
I love this movie.
(06:44):
The number fourth downloadedepisode the Nutty Professor.
Speaker 5 (06:50):
I put a tube in
somebody's ass, but I can't
break wind.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
I didn't say nothing
about putting the hose up
nobody's ass.
Speaker 6 (06:57):
I said what do you?
Speaker 7 (06:58):
think of calling
again.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
You think you run the
asshole by the car wash.
He's choking the baby.
Speaker 5 (07:12):
I do what I want to
do at this table.
Case in point who did that callmy name?
Yeah, I called you.
If your name is.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
Keep in front of me.
I'll toss this between thecrack of your ass.
Yeah, you know, I can go allnight.
Keep it going.
I hope you fart to your asshole.
Speaker 5 (07:36):
Fosie.
Oh, baby too.
See what you made me do.
God damn it.
I messed up my thing.
Damn Dave.
You got to clean him yourself, you rotten.
Speaker 4 (07:46):
Yeah, but like,
what's funny is like, like, and
I didn't want to give you thismovie, like I feel like it's
pandering no, it's because I'vebeen there, though I we've all
been there yeah, and as I wasre-watching this movie, you know
(08:07):
some parts do still have, likeyou know, ptsd.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
Right, you know, like
for any kind of furniture and
fitting into things.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
And so I still do the
whole furniture test, like I
still check to make sure I don'tbreak chair.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
Yeah, the test I do
is I'll, like you know, put my
hand on the chair and give itlike a push down, a little
wiggle, yeah, and I feel thelegs going.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
I'm not sitting,
that's yeah, we're not doing
that yeah that's how I do it.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
But yeah, it was.
I thought I know you didn'tmean it, but I was laughing like
they were like oh, of course, this is the movie I'm gonna have
number three.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
this is one of my
favorite episodes.
It's with my good friend JohnFudge Rickenbacker, one of my
favorite movies.
Ladies and gentlemen, let meintroduce you to Life, speaking
of which, since we're talkingabout the songs, from this movie
.
I have to play something foryou.
(09:01):
I played it before we started, but I have to play something for
you.
This is KC and JoJo singingLife on Tom's Yoner.
Speaker 5 (09:07):
Oh my gosh, we ain't
no dead up and not get home.
We gotta go home, boy, home forthe world.
It's gone now Send it to all ofyou, Baby it ain't good.
Baby, it ain't good oh dearSomebody get me life that just
sounded like oh my gosh, if Duduhad a face, if Dudu was a
(09:32):
person, if Dudu was a noobNumber two.
Speaker 4 (09:45):
Number two.
This is actually a shock to me,because this is an episode that
I did not know that I wanted todo.
This is one of the episodeswhere it's just me, which I'm
not sure if you guys like, dislike, whatever, but it's one
of the episodes that I didn'texpect a lot of people to listen
(10:06):
to, and a lot of peoplelistened to this one, which was
funny, because the episode wasso short.
Ladies and gentlemen, thenumber two most downloaded
episode is the you People reviewepisode.
Ironic, right, let's take alisten.
Music, what the fuck.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
What are you doing,
you, okay?
Ironic, right, let's take alisten Music what the fuck, what
the fuck.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
What are you doing?
Stop you okay, but you're notgetting five stars Uber driver.
Speaker 5 (10:36):
I mean honestly, you
guys are twins oh my God, wait,
she really does look like me.
Speaker 7 (10:43):
I'm sorry, this was
insane.
Let me make it up to you.
You're dating a black girl.
Speaker 4 (10:49):
I've never felt so
understood by somebody in my
entire life.
Speaker 5 (10:53):
Whether you like it
or not, we kind of go together.
Now You're my boo, come on, I'mgoing to ask her to marry me.
Speaker 6 (10:59):
Do you plan to talk
to her family?
Yeah, I just haven't had thechance to meet them.
What's going on, tell me aboutlife.
Speaker 5 (11:08):
How, how are you this
?
Does your white granddaddy comeback to haunt me?
Speaker 3 (11:11):
what now?
Speaker 4 (11:12):
this is my fault so
you want to marry my daughter?
Yes, yes, I do.
Well, ezra, you could try.
However, this is not an eddiemurphy movie.
By no means is this an EddieMurphy movie.
This is a Jonah Hill joint.
(11:32):
It's like Spike Lee has joints, jonah Hill has joints.
This is a Jonah Hill movie.
This has all of the humor of 21Jump Street, of Superbad, of
the Sitter.
Now, before I get to number one,I got some some episodes that
have honorable mentions.
Over the years I've done manyepisodes with many different
(11:55):
people, one of them being one ofthe barbers from coming to
america.
Yes, one of the mighty sharpbarbers from coming to America.
You might know him as that boy.
Good, I had Eddie Murphy's bestfriend, clint Smith, on the
podcast.
I was talking about you theother day when I spoke to, uh,
(12:19):
james D Turner, who was in the.
He was one of the big Barrywhite motherfuckers.
Um, in the trading places seenwith you, that one kid that that
did most of the talking.
That was one of eddie's buddies.
Yeah, clint, that's.
That's who I was referring to.
Clint smith, that's his buddy, yeah right, yes, yeah, no, I
remember.
Speaker 5 (12:38):
I didn't realize.
Speaker 4 (12:39):
I didn't realize who
he was at the time and uh, he
was just telling me how greatyou were in that jail scene.
He was like it's Durag LennyClint man Clint was on.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
Yeah, we were just
cracking jokes and improv, so
you know a lot of it ain'tmaking it in there, yeah, but we
kind of killed it?
Speaker 4 (13:02):
What didn't make it
in there?
I'm just curious.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
Just in that jail
cell, you know, because me and
Eddie were just bullshitting andimprov and doing a lot of shit
and Landis was like no, no, no,Stick to the script.
That's Landis.
Landis is like.
He wants you to read the words.
Speaker 4 (13:23):
Oh, wow.
Another episode that should bementioned is the Eddie Murphy
knows my name episode with aspecial guest, Rodney Perry.
Uh, he was actually in themovie coming to America, Um, but
he's a great friend of ours.
(13:44):
Uh, we've known him for over 20years.
Uh, we had, we have a greathistory with him.
He's he's known, he's known mesince I first got on TV.
So that was big.
That was a big episode.
Speaker 5 (13:58):
He said my name on TV
the other day, yo yeah.
That's crazy.
He was on Regis.
He was on Kimmel Kimmel andit's like yo, we had so many
comics, you know so-and-so,so-and-so.
Roddy Bear I was like RoddyBear Comics in the movie and
it's like yo, we had so manycomics, you know so-and-so
so-and-so Rodney Perry.
Speaker 4 (14:11):
I'm like Rodney Perry
Comics in the movie.
Yeah, we could really go into.
You got myself, you got Arsenio, you got Jermaine Fowler,
trevor Noah, michael Blackson, lunell, leslie Jones.
Speaker 5 (14:23):
Rodney Perry, it
ain't moving, no money.
Yeah, like I want to be closeenough where I can be myself
around, like I still ain'tmyself around.
Yeah, yeah, you know what?
I'm saying Like you know, likeI think the next time I'm around
I'm going to be cool, but the, the, the.
We shot this movie.
Yeah, that's a clip right there, nigel.
Speaker 4 (14:54):
That's a clip right
there one of my personal
favorite episodes is titled howthe dukes lost money.
It was a trading places episode.
I did about three tradingplaces episodes, Um.
One of them was about how theDukes lost money.
Now I had an issue with the endof trading places.
(15:21):
I did not understand exactlywhat it meant for the Dukes to
lose money in the stock marketexchange or whatever it was like
.
I wasn't sure what was going on, so I asked the financial
advisor to walk me through whatis going on with the Dukes and
why they lost money.
Speaker 8 (15:43):
You know, in English
class I had to write the lyrics
to a song and I wrote the lyricsto Party All the Time.
Why?
Speaker 4 (16:09):
Did you write down.
That's what I did for myhomework.
That is hilarious.
You wrote down the lyrics toParty all the time.
Speaker 8 (16:17):
Yes, I did yeah right
In the.
I don't know what grade it was.
I don't want to give away myage, so I don't know what grade
it was.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
Well, why?
Speaker 8 (16:27):
You know, the song
just came out and I liked it.
It's a good song.
It's a good song, it's a funsong and he's in it.
I don't know it seems supercorny, but back when it came out
it was somewhat of a hit.
Speaker 5 (16:41):
I'm going to put this
down.
He likes to party all the time.
Speaker 8 (16:47):
That is a haiku and I
also thought it was probably a
simple song to write too.
Speaker 4 (16:54):
See, you guys don't
understand it.
The thing is that he wants tobe home with her, but she wants
to go out and party all the time.
Speaker 8 (17:01):
That's why I don't
think we had to analyze it, but
maybe we did.
What grade did you get on thispaper?
Oh, I'm sure I got a C plus orB or something like that.
I don't think I analyzed itwell enough, but you would have
been better off saying huh, whatwas Eddie really trying to say
(17:22):
when he wanted to party all thetime?
There was more to it, Nigel.
It was deeper.
Speaker 4 (17:27):
You don't understand
you were better off writing
about.
We all live in a yellowsubmarine Right right, yeah that
would have been the one yeah.
That would have been the one,or Cat Stevens, the cats in the
cradle.
Speaker 8 (17:39):
Oh, those are A's.
Those are A's.
There's a lot to get rightabout that, yes absolutely Rick
James produced.
Speaker 5 (17:46):
Hit is not going to
get you an A, and it didn't.
Speaker 4 (17:52):
Yeah, produce hit is
not going to get you an A and it
didn't.
No, I bring you back to mythesis on Super Freak.
Alright, let's get back to thetop five now.
The top five the top mostdownloaded episode is not a
surprise.
It is an episode that I had nofaith in, that I did not know
(18:12):
was going to be so well listenedto, so well loved.
You guys really surprised mewith this one because I wasn't
sure if you guys would even likeit, but it's my Norbit episode.
I titled it Rasputia vsEverybody and I called it a Lost
Nor versus everybody and it Icalled it a lost Norbert episode
(18:33):
, because that's what it was.
It was an episode that I held onto for for years, didn't want
to put it out.
I have a lot of episodes likethat, like I have a lot of
episodes that I think are notgreat until I put it out.
And then, when I put it out,I'm like, oh, it wasn't as bad
as I thought.
It's funny because I have.
(18:55):
I have dozens of those and like, instead of getting that, like,
instead of giving you alackluster or mediocre episode,
I try to scale back and say youknow what?
I can't do this.
I can't let this happen.
So this was an interesting one.
Let's check that one out aswell.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
It got nominated for
an Oscar.
Speaker 4 (19:19):
For makeup.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
Still got nominated
for an Oscar.
Speaker 5 (19:24):
Mr Church did it.
Speaker 4 (19:25):
Hey, listen, I just
did a Mr Church episode.
That's really good.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
That's hilarious.
Speaker 4 (19:32):
And there's a lot of
nuances that they don't say in
the movie.
They never make reference tothe fact that he's gay.
How do you know?
You get that in little spurts.
So it makes you say I want toknow more about Mr Church.
Right, you know.
And he has a line in thebeginning of the movie Never
heard of grits?
(19:52):
A lot of secrets in my grits.
Oh so Mr Church is like thegrits, he has secrets.
But just because you don't knowwhat the secrets are doesn't
mean it's not good.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
Huh, what do grits
have to do with secrets?
Speaker 4 (20:08):
He has secrets in his
grits.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
Is the secret dick.
I don't understand thecorrelation.
Speaker 4 (20:21):
This has been an
amazing four years.
I couldn't ask for anythingbetter or more or worse or
whatever.
I've gotten to talk to peoplethat have written for Saturday
Night Live when Eddie Murphy wason.
I've gotten to talk todirectors that work with Will
Smith and know Eddie Murphypersonally.
(20:43):
I've actually gotten to talk toEddie Murphy's bodyguard, which
is on one of the podcasts thatI probably would never release,
but I've had a very interestingconversation with Eddie Murphy's
ex-bodyguard, let me tell you, yeah, I'd probably get sued for
that one, but it is what it is.
It is what it is.
(21:04):
I've had so much fun.
I got to do an episode with mymama.
My mother was on the podcast.
I'm your host, nigel AFullerton.
Here with me today on a specialMother's Day edition of the
Murphy Monday Podcast is mymother.
Hey, pastor Regina Ravenel Carris here to talk about her top
(21:29):
five Eddie Murphy movies Wow.
Car is here to talk about hertop five Eddie Murphy movies Wow
.
So just going through and havingfun, and I like to thank all
the guests that I've had on here, but mostly Jewel Singletary
and John Fudge, rick and back, and for holding me down when I
didn't have guests to be on.
A lot of times they help fillin for people who cancel, for
(21:53):
people who couldn't be on theepisode, for people who you know
backed out, you know, or just Ifeel like I need them to talk
about this because they are soenergetic and so lovely and I
thank them for being on thispodcast with me.
Um, it's hard.
It's hard doing the podcast,it's hard being excited to keep
(22:14):
going and keep doing and I dothis for you guys.
I don't get, I don't get paidfor this, I don't get any money
from this.
I just love being able to talk, share and just go through these
Eddie Murphy movies.
We only have a couple left.
Like I still haven't done Shrek, I still haven't done Harlem
(22:34):
Nights, I still haven't doneEddie Murphy Raw, like there's
still more to unpack and talkabout.
And if you guys would, I wouldlove it.
If you guys would email me.
