Now Miss Patterson is pleadingnot guilty to killing.
Her former in-laws, don andGail Patterson, questioned Ms
Patterson on her previoustestimony about her plans to
(01:28):
undergo gastric bypass surgery.
During her previous evidence,ms Patterson had told the court
she felt ashamed and embarrassedabout lacking control over her
body and her eating habits andthat she was pursuing weight
loss surgery.
She told the court she'd madepreparations for the procedure,
(01:48):
including a pre-surgeryappointment at Melbourne's
Enriched Clinic in earlySeptember 2023.
The jury was told that duringyesterday's lunch break, ms
Patterson reviewed number one, apolice statement dated June 10,
2025.
Number two records from theEnriched Clinics manager.
(02:11):
In court, dr Rogers then askedthe accused do you accept that
the Enriched Clinic does notoffer gastric bypass surgery and
has never offered it?
Ms Patterson, yes.
Do you accept that the EnrichedClinic does not offer and has
never offered it?
Ms Patterson yes.
Do you accept that the EnrichedClinic does not offer and has
never offered pre-surgeryassessments related to gastric
bypass?
(02:32):
Ms Patterson, I do.
Do you accept that the cliniconly conducts examinations and
procedures relating to the skinand its appendages?
Ms Patterson, I do.
The mother of two acknowledgedthat no mention of gastric
bypass consultations, referralsor treatment appeared in her
(02:53):
medical records from January2020 to August 2023.
As well, dr Rogers pointed outthat Ms Patterson had visited
the Coram Borough Medical Centrethree days before the fatal
lunch.
She renewed prescriptionsduring that visit, but there was
no reference to gastric bypassor weight loss treatment.
(03:15):
Ms Patterson agreed with allthe points raised.
The exchange concludedWednesday's proceedings and
Erin's expected to continuegiving evidence today, but in
other news.
Evidence today, but in othernews.
(03:35):
Ms Patterson rejected claimsthat she misled health
authorities or sent them on aquote wild goose chase, telling
the court she foraged death catmushrooms just two hours before
purchasing a food dehydrator.
So this came earlier in the day.
Yesterday, undercross-examination by Prosecutor
Nanette Rogers SC, ms Pattersonwas pressed on her alleged
(03:55):
movements around the time ofreported death cap mushroom
sightings.
The court heard of previousevidence given by
telecommunications expert DrMatthew Sorrell, who gave
evidence that Ms Patterson'smobile phone record suggested a
possible visit to Nielsen Streetin Outram on 22 May 2023.
(04:19):
The court has already heardthat mycologist Dr Thomas May
posted a siphon of death capmushrooms on the app iNaturalist
that same day.
Ms Patterson denied travelingto Outram on the 22nd of May.
She said, quote I don't believeI traveled to Outram as a
(04:41):
destination on the 22nd of May.
She acknowledged it's apossibility that she passed
through the town on that date orthe area.
When asked if she had anylegitimate reason to travel the
area, she responded with no.
I don't agree with that.
Then we were taken to questionsabout Locke, another town where
(05:03):
a death cap sighting was postedonline, this one on the 18th of
April 2023 by pharmacistChristine McKenzie.
Dr Sorrell's previous analysisof Ms Patterson's phone
indicated a possible visit toLocke on the 28th of April 2023.
(05:24):
Ms Patterson denied seeing theiNaturalist post before visiting
Locke and disagreed with theprosecutor when it was suggested
she may have travelled to Lockein pursuit of mushrooms.
Disagree, she said.
Ms Patterson acknowledgedpurchasing a dehydrator in
Leongatha on that same day, butdenied the purpose on that
(05:47):
particular day was to dehydratedeath cat mushrooms.
