Hello, hello, casey here.
Happy New Year everyone.
This is our first episode afterthe new year.

(01:21):
I hope you all had a greatChristmas if you celebrate and
holiday season.
It's been a whirlwind, as usual.
But we have a lot of new thingshappening over at Pin and Posh.
We are rebranding, so the brandis becoming Casey Clin.

(01:41):
Pin and Posh will still bethere.
That's the name of my Etsy shop, that's what it's always been
and that's what it is going tostay.
So that's not going anywhere.
But I do have this, you know,service-based, more coaching
side of the business where Ieducate, where I have this
podcast and that is going to beCasey Klin now.

(02:02):
So when you are listening tothis episode, we might have the
new website up.
If not, it's going to be upvery, very soon.
So check back and I'd love tohear what your thoughts are on
the new design and the changesthat we've made.
So, with it being a new year, asyou guys know, each year I

(02:25):
always have a word.
I have a word that I justthat's my word for that year.
This past year has been, youknow, just a year of reflecting.
It's been an unfortunate yearwhere I've had a lot of fear,
and so this year I've decidedthis is going to be more of a

(02:47):
cleansing year for me, a goodrefresh after everything that
has happened.
We woke up with over sixfigures that had been drained
from our account and I didn'thave very much money from our

(03:11):
account, and I didn't have verymuch money and we also didn't
have our things for six monthsand we didn't have a home that
we could call our own, and so Iwas in survival mode.
As you can imagine, I was goingthrough the process of just
putting one foot in front of theother, because that's all that
I could handle.
I was speaking to a friend andwe were talking about how, after

(03:37):
going through traumaticincidents like these such as
this, it changes your entireperspective on life, on
relationships, on what reallymatters and things that used to
matter to me.
They just don't anymore.
And you know I hear other momssay things about each other like

(03:59):
, wow, she really let herself go, or you know, such and such has
put on weight.
It must be because X, y and Z,or did you hear about so-and-so?
You know it's like the gossipof the town, right?
We're all familiar with thelady gossip of the town and,
sadly, I used to be one of thesepeople, if I'm being honest,

(04:22):
like there was a time that, evenbeyond this, there was a time
that I was consumed just withthe thought of money, in a way
that all I could think about wasmoney and how to make more
money and getting out of thismassive debt that we were in.
We weren't even able to pay onthe interest of this massive

(04:44):
debt, and it was a huge weighton my shoulders and on our
families, so the only way that Iknew to handle it was to attack
it with everything that I had,and so I would even say that I
became a bit obsessed withpaying off this big lump, would

(05:07):
even say that I became a bitobsessed with paying off this
big lump, and so my main focusduring that time was making as
much money as possible in asshort of amount of time as I
could, and so that's what I did,and I had almost achieved that.
We were closing on a dream home, the dream home that I had
always wanted the White House upon a hill with my little farm

(05:29):
horses, chickens and I don'tknow goats.
And then some things happenedand I went through a state of
shock, denial, fear, anxiety, you name it.
I went through just the mostextreme of emotions that I've

(05:55):
ever been through, and it was avery difficult time in my life.
And you know, one morningwaking up and not having that
savings, that money in savings, and we only had enough money to
live off of for the next monthor so and that would also cover

(06:17):
my business expenses, and so wedidn't have our things for a
while.
I was afraid, like I didn'tknow our things for a while.
I was afraid, like I didn'tknow what was going to happen
and even the business itself wasat risk of being taken away
from me.
And so this year was the closeto all of that and at that close

(06:42):
I began a healing process.
And you know, even though thiswas a year of fear and a year
that a lot of different, not sogreat things happen, despite it
all, I surprisingly and I didn'tthink that this would be the
case but I have found that Ihave grown so much during that

(07:06):
time and I've changed in waysthat I didn't even know that I
needed to change, in Weaknessesthat I had that I became aware
of, and one of those areas isletting go of things that don't
matter, and I can promise youthat.
You know, when I see a mom nowthat doesn't have her crap

(07:28):
together, that has, you know, let herself go that in you know
others' words, isn't going towin the mom of the year award
because she, you know, can'tkeep her crap together instead
of gossiping about others andthat being, and that being, a
main focus, I can look at themand have compassion.

(07:49):
Now, and I now think we don'tknow what's going on behind
closed doors, we don't know herfull story or what battles she
is fighting internally.
And though my self, I wasconsumed with money and getting

(08:13):
out of debt and achieving thatfinancial freedom, and though
financial freedom is still agoal of mine, it's not all
consuming.
Like it was, I lost focus ofwhat's most important.
And so to me I was like, oh, ifI could just reach that, if I
could just get us out of debt, then all of the problems that

(08:36):
I'm experiencing and goingthrough they're going to go away
.
That's not a healthy place tobe in either.
And so in that moment, like Iwent from making over 200,000 a
year and moving into my dreamhome to having next to nothing

(08:57):
almost overnight, literallyovernight, and I then had, at
that low, low place in my life,I then had a community of
complete strangers and peoplewho came together to donate toys
and furniture and bedding andfood and kitchen appliances like

(09:21):
everything that we needed tolive off of.
I haven't talked openly aboutthis because, to be honest, I
didn't think that I could holdit together to talk about it.
But to go through this, to gofrom you know I have it all.
You know the business is doingamazing, like we're going to be

(09:43):
moving into this house andliving the dream and we're going
to buy a boat and all of thesethings, to having nothing
literally the next day and tothen depend on other people to

(10:03):
provide you food and clothes, and I didn't know if I even had
enough in the bank account forit to cover the business.
I was hopeful that the businesswould make enough and that we
would have enough in the bank tokeep everything going, but
that's how tight the money was,and so, to be honest, it was

(10:26):
very hard for me to transitionand be in this low place.
I'm a person who is prettyindependent.
If I can do it myself withoutthe help, I will, and I won't go
and ask for it and so to be inthis situation where I needed to
be given to instead of beingthe one to give.
It was hard.

(10:46):
It was really hard for me, butit was also very humbling.
I learned to ask for help whenI needed it and to not be
ashamed of that, because this isjust a low season in my life
and that's okay.
I learned that, though there'sso much bad in the world,
there's once again very, verygood, amazing, selfless people

(11:10):
who you know it might be an oldcouch that they donated to me,
but to me it was so importantand meant so much to us.
And, to be clear, it wasn'tlike you know, we didn't have
anything Like.
I still had this business andthankfully, this business I had

(11:33):
set up to run on autopilot, youknow, which is what I teach all
of you.
So just months prior you'veheard me talk about this I had
hired on Andrea as our onlinebusiness manager and I offloaded
as much as I could.
I had planned to take a stepaway from the business once we

(11:54):
had paid off our debt and I wasgoing to focus just on raising
my girls until they enteredschool.
Hey, there, just wanted to popin here and let you guys know
about a free, live masterclasscoming up four secret ways to
dominate Etsy when sellingdigital downloads and how this
compares to selling handmadeproducts.

(12:15):
I never thought it possible tocompletely replace my corporate
income with just a computer thathad internet access, and that's
literally all that you need.
As you guys have heard my story, I was able to rise to the top
1% of shops selling on Etsy andreplace my income within the
first six months after launch, and I put together a rare, all

(12:36):
new training in the form of alive masterclass.
So, first time ever done, I'mso excited for this.
If you attend this masterclass, you will learn how to find a
proven digital product.
You'll learn how to setyourself apart from the
competition, you'll learn how toavoid the most common pitfalls
new shop owners make and you'lllearn how to stay ahead so that

(12:58):
you can continue to beprofitable for years to come.
Go to pinandposhcom forwardslash free masterclass.
We have two sessions coming upJanuary 11th and January 12th
and I'll also be giving away afree training to those who
attend live and choose tocontinue on this journey with me
by enrolling in Etsy digitalsuccess.
But even if you don't enroll inthat premium course, there will

(13:21):
still be lots and lots to learn.
So go over to pinandposhcomforward slash free masterclass.
Be sure to bring a paper andpencil and I'll see you there.
And so I didn't know what wasgoing to happen and what was
about to happen.
And so for all of this tohappen and my business still be

(13:46):
generating income in thebackground and support us while
I was focusing on all this otherstuff was such a huge blessing.
That is why I will always backdigital products.
I will always teach for thebusy, overwhelmed mom in

(14:11):
creative, because literallythese past couple years, I would
not be here.
I would have had to have goneback to work and worked for
somebody else on a demandingschedule with strict hours and
strict times, which would havebeen fine, I could have done it,

(14:32):
but instead I've been able tofocus on my girls.
I have worked less thanpart-time hours, have worked
less than part-time hours lessthan part-time hours most weeks,
I should say on this business, and I'm very fortunate and

(14:55):
blessed for my background andfor my experience in this area.
But none of that would matterwithout all of you who show up
each day, week and month tolisten to me ramble.
So, yes, I put systems andprocesses into place, but
without you, none of that wouldmatter, and so I hope I can
return the favor and give youexactly what you need in this
moment of your life so you canaccomplish and reach the same.

(15:19):
But this year, I feel, is a newstart In 2023, I feel like this
is a refresh, it's a reset, andI know there will be obstacles
and there's going to be issues.
There's going to be the not sopretty things, but I also know
that I'm a new person who canface and do hard things and I

(15:42):
hope that you know that aboutyourself, too.
Hard things, and I hope thatyou know that about yourself too
.
Like I want you, I want each ofyou, to think of a difficult
situation that you've been inthat you have passed Like you
came out of it, whether you knowugly, not looking too good,
like however you handled it,it's okay, but you were able to

(16:06):
still get through that time.
Whether it was like you weresick, maybe your child was sick,
maybe it was a divorce, maybeyou had a loved one pass away
Like you got through it.
It may not have been pretty, but you got through it.
You may not even know how youdid it, but you did it.

(16:27):
So you've already proven toyourself that you can do hard
things and I want you toremember that.
Okay, you know, right on yourmirror, I can do hard things.
Look at this every single dayin your bathroom mirror.
I can do hard things.
You've proven it to yourself.
I can do hard things.
You've proven it to yourselfthat you can do hard things.

(16:49):
It's interesting like when we gothrough something hard like
that, we don't have a choice, sowe just have to get through it,
you know.
And so the past?
It may look similar to mine.
It may not.
It may be full of fear andgloom and confusion and worry
and stress and depression.
Whatever the past looks like toyou, it doesn't define your

(17:13):
future.
It doesn't have to be yourfuture.
That doesn't have to be 2023.
So let us each do a cleansethis year, honoring the past.
We can acknowledge it, nod ourheads to it, because it made us
who we are today, but at thesame time, we can vow to
ourselves that we are going tobe different, moving forward,

(17:35):
that we are moving on from ourpast.
There was a image that I saw onsocial media and it like a girl
holding a seed and then theyear 2021 under it, and then the
next year, 2022, it was thislittle blossoming like tree and
then in 2023, it was just a hugeflourishing, like you know

(18:00):
celebration and this can be ustoo.
I love that Celebration andthis can be us too.
I love that.
I feel like there's a lot ofpeople who can relate to that,
especially with COVID and thepandemic and a lot of just
difficult situations each of ushave been in that I feel like
many people are on the sametimeline.

(18:20):
But, as you all know, digitalproducts, digital downloads,
specifically designs is how Igot started in this business and
this, for me, was the start toall of this.
Like it was definitely not myfirst attempt.
It was success.

(18:40):
This business was successfulafter many unsuccessful attempts
.
You know, I was a newstay-at-home mom.
We had decided that I wouldquit my job at Cabela's as their
marketing manager to stay homewith our new baby girl, and when
I became a stay-at-home mom, Ifound that I missed having like
my checklist of things that Iwas used to doing in my day job

(19:05):
and seeing those things throughand checking them off and then
watching the reward unfold frommy efforts, and that reward was
like in the form of sales orattendance numbers or a good job
from, like, my GM or regionalmarketing manager.
So for me, as a new mom, likeit was difficult not having that

(19:26):
daily, like hey, you're doing agreat job, keep it up.
Starting a business.
This is why this is exactly whyI started a business in the
first place.
It was for me I would be able tohave that and keep my mind busy
and stay active and stay busy, and I think for many moms they

(19:49):
can relate to needing this intheir mental health, and it's
something that I don't think youget until you are a
stay-at-home mom or astay-at-home parent yourself,
doing something to keep ourminds healthy, to keep ourselves
healthy, because we can't bethe best mom, the best
individual ourselves healthy, because we can't be the best mom
, the best individual we can beif we aren't right up here.

(20:09):
Okay, so I was fortunate to beable to find something that
aligned with my strengths, mypassion made me happy, my
expertise and land in this areaof designing and selling digital
designs online.
It was the right match and forme, that was a big part of it

(20:30):
finding something that just fitme, finding like that topic,
that item that really made mewant to get up in the morning,
and so that was a huge part.
But the other huge part that Ihaven't talked about as much
recently is just the flexibilitythat it has allowed me.

(20:52):
I am a mom first and I'm abusiness owner second, and I
know that that's not the popularthing, because people want to
see the business owner likealways, you know be on top of
stuff.
But I'm sorry, like that's justnot who I am, and so and I'm

(21:13):
not shaming any other mom, business owners I don't want
this to come across in the wrongway, but I I want to be here
for my girls first.
They're only little ones and Idon't want to hire a daycare to
watch them every single day.
When they're sick, I want to bethe one to go to the school and

(21:35):
pick them up and take care ofthem, not a stranger, not
somebody who doesn't know themas well as me.
And I know this is needed forothers and I'm not judging those
who put their kids in daycare, promise, but for me, I chose to
be a stay-at-home mom first, andthen the business came later,

(21:59):
and the reason that I have gonewith this more digital,
product-based type of businessis because I want to be a mom
first, Okay, and so for abusiness owner, having the sales
come in and not have to get anyorders assembled and out on
time, you have to get productsshipped out, you have to be tied

(22:22):
down to a schedule Just nothaving any of that it frees up
our time so we can take care ofthe little people in our lives,
and that's what this wholeepisode is about.
That took me like 20 minutes toget into this, but that's what
this is about.
If we can post a product onEtsy during the time we set
aside to do it, you know, andsomething comes up like our

(22:45):
little one heaven forbid.
You know they get RSV orthey're sick or they need us,
whatever happens, no big deal,we'll just move it to tomorrow
or later in the week, like thatproduct doesn't have to go up on
Etsy, right?
That second, okay.
This was my answer that Ineeded and why I've been able to
continue moving forward andexpanding my business to this

(23:09):
day.
I believe in this so hard, youguys.
To this day, I still get adeposit from Etsy, from the
digital sales that we've made,and I haven't had to lift a
finger.
Meanwhile, I've been focusingon other areas of the business,
other areas of my life, aka mykids.

(23:30):
It's not that we are doing lesswork.
The work just needs done upfront instead of later on, and
it is flexible work that can beworked into our schedule instead
of the other way around.
We run our businesses anddecide when to work, instead of

(23:50):
the business running us andtelling us when to work.
Okay, we control our businesses, not the other way around.
So, one selling digitalproducts gives us the
flexibility to be a mom.
Two there's no assembling orshipping products or orders.
When the sales do come in, thatorder is delivered

(24:11):
automatically to the customer, especially if you're selling
over on Etsy.
Number three all work is doneupfront instead of throughout
the process.
Number four it allows us tofocus on other areas in our life
or in our business.
Reason number five we decidewhen we work.
We're not tied down to a strictwork schedule.

(24:32):
This allows us to again focuson our kids and work around
their schedules, their nap times, when they go to bed, so that
we have that flexibility.
Number six we still get andhave a creative outlet.
So if you're used to craftingor creating in some way,
designing digital products, itsatisfies that same need deep in

(24:56):
us, releasing those endorphinsand making us happy mamas, which
again is important.
Which again is important.
Number seven reason number sevenno need to house the inventory.
No need to house shirts andpackaging materials.
No need to have even like a bigheat press, no need for

(25:18):
equipment or supplies.
All you need is a laptop withinternet access.
That's all I had when I started.
You don't need anything else.
It's awesome.
Number eight you can work fromanywhere.
You can work at home, making itreally convenient for you and
your family.
You're able to work while alsokeeping a listening ear on those

(25:38):
kiddos, right?
And then this leads us intonumber nine.
You can work from anywhere.
You don't need to have anoffice that you rent or an
office space outside of yourhome that you have to pay for.
A little while back, I had acouple people people who were
friends actually suggest or saysomething to the effect of why
don't you just go out and get areal office instead of working

(26:01):
from home?
Like I kid you, not Almost likeit was like a shameful thing
that I was working from home,like I didn't have a real
business.
So, and then I had anotherperson around the same time,
tell me that why don't you justgo back and work for Cabela's?
Go get a real job, sweetie.

(26:23):
And you guys, okay, I want tosay, I want to tell each of you,
as you are on your businessgrowth journey, you will always
have people who don't believe inyou journey.
You will always have people whodon't believe in you, people
who don't take you seriously, who don't take your job
seriously, and that's what thisis is a job.

(26:44):
They don't take your jobseriously, they don't appreciate
you or they don't put anyimportance in what you are doing
in your business.
They will be there.
If you haven't encounteredthese people, they will come.
They'll come out of thewoodwork and there might be a

(27:05):
lot of them.
Likely there will be a lot ofthem, but ignore them, okay,
because again, you've heard mesay this, you know better.
When these people say thesethings, I simply confidently,
but also politely, respond whywould I rent an office when I'd

(27:27):
have to pay like $500 a month?
That doesn't make sense, youknow, and then laugh it off,
shrug it off.
It is just water running off aduck's back, right, or you know?
To the Cabela's comment, Iresponded I couldn't make enough
there to replace what I'mcurrently making.
You know, dividing out thehours especially, I can't make

(27:48):
that much anywhere else, so whywould I go back to a job like
that?
Now you know, you may bethinking okay, maybe they don't
know how much you make, or maybethey don't know your situation,
and actually, surprisingly,these people did.
And so this leads me into mynext thing I want to share with

(28:10):
you is I have found that ourbiggest critics are often those
people around us and thoseclosest to us people around us
and those closest to us, and sothat, to me, makes it even more
important to understand wherecomments like these come from,
where they really come from, andthat, in effect, helps me to

(28:33):
respond in a much more positive, more healthy way than firing
back at them with something meanand getting really defensive.
I think that we can still defendourselves.
I think that we can communicateour feelings, but it doesn't
have to take up space in ourminds.

(28:55):
It can be more of a whisperthan like a shout that just like
consumes us, right?
But my point is and what I wasgoing to say it comes from a
place of insecurity in those whosay these things.
Okay, they are just reflectingthe hurt and pain that they are

(29:16):
feeling themselves and to them.
Maybe they really don't believethat you can make it, but in
these two situations, thesepeople knew that I had made it,
but they were still kind ofputting me down in their own way
.
You will always have thesepeople.

(29:37):
You will always have thesepeople, and usually these people
who say these things arehurting in their own way, shape
or form, and it comes from aplace of insecurity within them
and, quite frankly, they justdon't like.
What you're doing sometimes iswhat it comes down to.
So here's the thing Number oneif you can distance yourself

(30:00):
from these people who bring youdown like this or tell you that
you cannot make that much or youcan't achieve that goal or get
away from them, if you can, okay, you don't have to completely.
You know, cut the ties withthem, right, but maybe it's just
never discussing your businesswith them ever again.
And so you put a boundaryaround that and you say I'm

(30:25):
going to only discuss mybusiness with this person over
here because they make me feelgood about what I'm doing.
Maybe it's me, maybe it's yourcoach, maybe it's in you know, a
private community, maybe it'sin you know, if you're in my
premium program, like, voiceyour frustration there and you
will receive so much positivity,so much great influence over

(30:45):
the haters, over the naysayers.
But I want you to be around, ifpossible, positive influences
and people who are on your team, like, surround yourself with
those, okay, you know.
But if you can't, you know, maybe it is your spouse, maybe
it's like a close family member,it's okay.

(31:06):
And, by the way, like this wasme, I had people close to me
telling me that I couldn't do it.
Like they even rolled theireyes when I said I'm going to
make six figures, because I knew, like, if I worked hard enough,
if I could see the growth thatI was already seeing, I knew
that if I kept going, then Icould make it to the six-figure

(31:27):
mark.
And that is when I made thegoal to pay off all this debt
that we were in.
But they would, you know, rolltheir eyes and say, okay, casey,
whatever, you know.
And then later on they eventold me I didn't think you had
it in you, which is kind of likea double slap, you know, but
whatever.
And now I can say to myself youknow, in my own mind, when I

(31:49):
receive comments like this.
You know it's.
It's that they never believedin me or don't believe me, and
that's okay.
Ever believed in me or don'tbelieve me, and that's okay.
Because I believed in me orcurrently present tense.
I believe in me and I have myown back on this journey.
I don't need anybody else tounderstand what I'm doing in

(32:10):
here, even if it looks silly tothem, even if they don't see the
point, even if they tell me I'mnever going to achieve what I'm
going or want to achieve.
I'm never going to achieve whatI'm going or want to achieve.
You don't need them to believein yourself, because you have
you.
You also have me, and you knowthat you won't stop until you
figure this out, because everysetback that those people see as

(32:31):
a failure, you know that that'sjust a part of the process.
You know that with 10, 20, 30setbacks or ideas that don't
work out, eventually all thatyou've learned from those
setbacks leads to the goldennugget.

(32:51):
And if you don't believe thisor know this, believe me.
See, they don't understand that.
It's a numbers game.
They don't see or understandthe determination in you, but
you do.
You know it's in you.
Girl, stop putting so muchweight on what they're saying
and put more weight on what youbelieve and what you want and

(33:14):
what is your why?
If you ask any self-mademillionaire which just about all
of them are entrepreneurs justsaying, ask them if they believe
in you, you know, next timethat you see one walking down
the street, ask them.
But if you were to ask them, you would hear them respond
absolutely Like I believe it'spossible for you to do whatever

(33:39):
you set out to do, becausethey've seen it, they know it
can happen, they believeanything can happen when you are
willing to not stop, becausethat is the mentality that leads
you to thousands, millions, whatever figure of success that

(34:01):
you're aiming for.
That mentality is what isdifferent than the naysayers,
than the haters out there, thosepeople who aren't supporting
you, who are putting you down, who are saying these things.
Are they sacrificing?
Instead of watching Netflix orfootball at night?

(34:21):
Are they going out and startingtheir business and doing the
same thing you are, which is,instead of watching TV, you're
working on your business, right?
We don't got time to watchmovies.
There was like an entire yearor two that I did not know what
new movies had come out andpeople look at me like I was
crazy because I never seen one.
They still do.
Okay, I've got other stuffgoing on because they don't

(34:45):
sacrifice.
And I'm not saying that youknow we should put down
everybody because they don'tsacrifice.
I'm not saying that watchingNetflix is a bad thing, like we
each need our release, but thesepeople, they have this attitude
because they aren't willing todo what it takes to let go of

(35:08):
what other people think to bevulnerable, to put themselves
out there to start up a businessbecause they're insecure,
because they aren't willing tosacrifice that you, you're
swallowing that up.
You are, you know, even thoughit scares you, you're going to

(35:28):
take that step and you're goingto move forward.
And, yeah, you're going to looklike you don't know what you're
doing at first, but with timeyou will.
With time, you learn With each.
You know failure, quote unquotefailure.
I hate to call them failures, but with each of these things

(35:48):
you learn and you build and youbecome the person and the
business owner that you areaiming to be.
Okay, the criticizers, thegossipers they attract
negativity, which is also whatwill stand in the way from
living a life of fulfillment andabundance.
You guys watch the Secret onNetflix, or maybe it's on Prime.

(36:13):
It might be on Prime, but it'swith that cute guy from Sweet
Home, alabama, with a reallycute accent.
I've never been good at namingfamous people, but I do remember
amazing hair, sexy accents inthe movie name.
But that movie talks about this, about being positive, how
they've done studies on thisvery thing, where the more

(36:37):
positive you are, the more youwill attract good things in your
life to happen and the moregood will come to you.
So I really believe this Thingswill always work out for you,
even when the failures aren'treally failures and you can look
at them as such.
So kind of went off on asoapbox per the usual.

(37:01):
If you've hung around this long, then you're used to it and you
also know that this is when Ishare my best stuff of, when I
kind of go off like this.
But to conclude, there's lots ofreasons why selling digital
downloads is perfect for us, usnaptime hustlers, and for those
of you who are starting out thataren't very confident in

(37:23):
yourselves, that also don't havevery much support.
Just know that I've got you.
I believe in you.
