You guys are well aware, at the beginning of each year, I choose a word that I focus on for the year. For this year, it's going to be automated. I want to create even more of a passive type of business than I already have.
Transitioning to this single mom status, I am finding that my time has been cut in half even further. I have less time than I ever have had before. And so this is going to be my year to automate as much as I can, put as much as I can on autopilot. And I felt like this is a great time also to be sharing how I do all of this. So one thing that I want to go over today in this week's episode is how to automate our Etsy shops even more.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, hello, all right.
So this year, as you guys arewell aware, at the beginning of
each year, I choose a word thatI focus on for the year.
For this year, it's going to beautomate.
I want to create even more of apassive type of business than I

(00:21):
already have than I alreadyhave.
Transitioning to the single momstatus, I am finding that my
time has been cut in half evenfurther.
I have less time than I everhave had before, and so this is
going to be my year to justautomate as much as I can, put
as much as I can on autopilot, and I felt like this is a great

(00:44):
time to also be sharing how I doall of this.
So one thing that I want to goover today, in this week's
episode, is how to automate ourEtsy shops even more, even our
Etsy shops selling the digitalproducts.
How can we really stretch thatpassive income to the farthest

(01:05):
possible?
Okay, so stay tuned after theintro and we're going to dive
right into this.
As natural creatives, we loveour projects, we love our craft
time, and we'll never say no toa quick trip to Michael's.
Although running a handmadebusiness is rewarding, it can
also be overwhelming.
Hey, creative mamas Casey here, and as a mother of two feisty

(01:27):
toddlers and a business ownermyself, I get the nap time
hustle and live it daily.
Managing the house, jugglingthe kids and getting those
orders out on time can train thelife right out of us.
But what if there was a way toconvert that business of yours
into an online passive incomegenerating machine?
Well, I'm here to tell you it'snot only possible, but

(01:49):
completely yours for the taking.
I'm on a mission to give all ofthe nap time hustling crafty
moms out there the right tools, systems and strategies needed to
convert your own businessesinto consistent yet flexible
income online, all while doingwhat you do best creating.
So put those kiddos down fortheir nap, pop in some earbuds

(02:11):
and kick back.
This is where you stop tradingtime for dollars.
This is where you claim yourlife back.
This is the Naptime Hustlepodcast.
So we recently closed the doorsto Etsy Digital Success.
I have a whole new, brand newbatch of students who are
entering the program and openingan Etsy shop, launching an Etsy

(02:34):
shop selling digital products, and I thought that this would be
a good just like follow-upepisode for those of you who
already have Etsy shop, forthose of you who have recently
opened one or have had one openfor a while now, this should
help you.
We're going to go over some ofthe things and ways that you can
really just put everything onautopilot, really save more of

(02:59):
your time beyond what you'realready saving through the sale
of digital products.
So, number one utilize theautomated messages on Etsy.
So Etsy has their built-infeatures.
They have automated DMs.
You can use these.
I have a Lindsay, as I'vealready shared in that episode

(03:24):
with Whitney.
I have a VA that manages myEtsy shop and that is going to
be a bullet point later on asone way to automate it.
But more on that later.
For now, let's just focus onthe new Etsy shops and how you
can do this.
So, automated messagesleveraging those and making sure
that you put in those, justlike addressing whatever problem

(03:47):
they're encountering thatyou're finding most people are
having.
Like, what is the number onething that they are coming to
you asking about?
Okay, your customers, what dothey send you messages about?
Address it in your automatedmessage.
Okay, just the one.
Don't dive deep.
We have our FAQ section.
Just having that automatedmessage that answers their

(04:11):
question will save you timerather than messaging them back
and forth with that thing, andso when you do message them,
it'll already be taken care of.
Okay, next up, like I said, addFAQs to your shop.
So those other questionsthey're a little bit more in
depth that you are seeing apattern with people coming to

(04:32):
your shop asking these questions.
Go ahead and put them in yourFAQ section of your shop.
Many people just automaticallygo there.
If you can put these things inthese messages and in your shop
and answer their question, it'sgoing to save you more time in
the end.
Okay, this is a side note.
You know a lot of you alreadyhave done this, but setting your

(04:54):
products and transitioningproducts that are the digital
downloads, that are the digitalproducts just adding digital
products to your shop, if youhaven't already, is going to
save you time.
It's going to take at least aportion of your income and turn
it into passive income.
The work has already been done.
They put the order through toEtsy and for these products,

(05:19):
even if it's like a third ormaybe it's a quarter of your
inventory, if you haven'tprogressed over to digital shop
yet, just adding some digitalproducts to your shop it will
give you time back.
Okay, and I see many people dothis.
So adding those digitalproducts to your shop is a great
way to produce this passiveincome.
Also, building up your emaillist, and I would even piggyback

(05:45):
off of this and say buildingyour funnel.
We go over this in EDS In thelast phase of Etsy Digital
Success.
We talk about building yourbrand off of Etsy and how to do
this and how to utilize youremail list to produce traffic,
to produce buyers, to produceincome for your Etsy shop, and a

(06:09):
big part of this is setting upyour funnel.
What is a funnel?
When people land on your Etsyshop, maybe they're scrolling
through your listing images, ormaybe it's in the description a
link back to your websitepromoting a free product or a
free item or whatever.
It is getting them back to yourwebsite signing up for that

(06:31):
email list.
If you don't have an email list, you can set up a temporary
page.
You get with MailChimp orConvertKit or whoever it is, and
they have.
They will host this landingpage for you, so you don't even
have to have your own website.
And so they go to the signuppage.
They get on your email list andthen what happens?

(06:53):
This is where your funnel comesin, then you're going to be
sending them a welcome sequence, you're going to be nurturing
them, and all of this is goingto eventually funnel them into
whatever that step B is.
Are you going to then teachthem?
Are you going to then promoteyour other products on Etsy?

(07:15):
This looks different foreverybody.
Maybe it's promoting your blog, maybe it is sending them sales
on your Etsy shop.
Whatever it is, this is yourfunnel and it's called a funnel
because it's in several places.
It's in several places on yourEtsy shop.
Maybe it's on your social media.
You're promoting this one thingand then we're eventually

(07:37):
getting them on your email listand trickling them down into a
funnel.
You think a funnel it is wide toa funnel.
You think a funnel it is wideand then it gets very small.
And you have a single intentionat the end of it that you want
them to take action on.
Like I said, maybe it'spurchasing from your Etsy shop.
Maybe for me, it is enrollingin my educational courses and my

(08:03):
courses, and so that is the endgoal.
You have to be clear on that.
What do you?
What is this journey thatyou're taking them on and with
your email list?
That's a big piece of it, thatis it, and so you have a series.
You have this sequence thatthey go through.
You have this entire journeythat they go through and
eventually, at the end, you askthem to take action.

(08:23):
And the whole point in thisfunnel and in this email
sequence is building trust, building a relationship.
I think that trust is thenumber one sales converter.
When people trust you, they'remore likely to buy from you, to
extend and move thisrelationship forward.

(08:44):
Okay, when they trust you, theyare going to put money into
your pocket.
They're going to take money outof their pocket, they're going
to put it into yours, and sothat is also a big goal for your
funnel and for your email list.
Okay, next up is one thing thatyou can also do that will save
time and this is big in yourEtsy shop.

(09:07):
It'll save you time from divinginto your Etsy shop for hours
on end is creating instructionaleither videos or PDFs or some
type of instructional materialfor your customers.
I'm not talking about coursesand this extra long-term goal or
side hustle that you have goingon over here.

(09:28):
I'm talking just like on yourEtsy shop, if you have people
who have questions how to useyour SVGs or how to use your
digital product, createstep-by-step instructions for
them, put it in a PDF and putthat PDF inside of your sales,
of your folder.

(09:49):
That you give them your digitaldownload, that you get them
your files put in a structuralPDF in there, and then that also
allows you to link back to thevideo instructions that are in
there and that people have.
I think that video is a smartand great way to help your

(10:09):
customers and to build thattrust too, and so this is going
to help you set yourself apartfrom other shops, because other
shops aren't taking the time todo this.
They aren't taking the time togo over to YouTube to create a
single video tutorial just fortheir Etsy customers.
Okay, and people are going toappreciate this.

(10:31):
When they open up that PDF, ormaybe they contact you and are
like I don't know how to do this, you can respond back and be
like you know, there's thisvideo that I made you that's
already inside the PDF that youreceived when you downloaded
your product, so you can go overthere and click that and let me
know if you have any questions.

(10:51):
Or you could just have thisvideo on hand, have the link on
hand and send it to themimmediately when they reach out
with these issues, because eventhough you do put it inside the
download and inside that folderthat they receive, they still
won't look at it.
You think about it.
How many times do you actuallygo in and dive into the

(11:15):
instructions immediately upondownloading?
So I would say like 50-50.
Like 50 of the people will lookat it, 50 of them won't, and so
you want to have an option oryou want to have that link ready
for them when they do reach out.
But for the people that do lookat it, it's going to save you
time.
They're going to be trying toopen your file and know that if

(11:39):
they reach out to you, there'sgoing to be a lag.
They'd rather just handle itthemselves.
So having it right there andready for them to look and view
just them having that moreimmediate help is going to save
you time.
Also, utilizing the DMs or theautomatic messages during your

(12:00):
vacation time is going to helpas well, so you don't have to
put your shop on vacation.
When you go on vacation, whenyou go to the beach, the Bahamas
, wherever, you don't have toput your shop on vacation.
But I would put up a message,an announcement saying that, hey

(12:20):
, I'm going to be on vacation, Iwill be checking my shop on
this day while I am on vacation,or I will be back on this day
or have an emergency email orcontact readily available for
them if they get into a bind.
And maybe you partner withanother shop owner, maybe you
have your sister-in-law checkthe shop once or twice while

(12:43):
you're gone just to answer thesethings.
I'm not saying it has to beyour sister-in-law, but find a
buddy, find a person who canhelp you out during this time.
But that is another option thatyou can consider that will also
help automate.
Put your shop on autopilot whilestill producing sales while on
vacation.
That's the beauty of it.

(13:03):
Back then, in a physical, handmade shop, you aren't able
to do this.
You aren't able to produceincome while you're on vacation.
But for the people that do needhelp, you want to give them an
option still, and so utilizethose automatic messages, those
messages that they receive whenthey download your product.

(13:26):
It's the message for digitaldownload buyers.
It's right there.
That's where you put thisinformation so that they know,
hey, she's not on vacation.
You put the dates of whenyou'll be gone.
If you're able to check yourshop, put that date when you'll
be checking back in.
Or if you have somebody who isgoing to be monitoring things,

(13:47):
you can have their contactinformation.
Or this is my last point youcan just have a VA monitoring
your shop while you're gone.
You can have a partnermonitoring your shop while
you're gone.
You can have a partnermonitoring your shop while
you're gone.
Or you can have this long termand that's what I have now is a
Lindsay who manages the shop, who is answering back to

(14:09):
everybody that reaches out to us, all of our customers who need
help.
She's there checking once a dayto make sure that they have
what they need.
And I have been hands-off fromthat part of my business, from
the customer service side of mybusiness, for quite some time
now, and so really, the timethat I put into my Etsy shop now

(14:32):
while I'm doing this podcast, while I'm doing all these other
things, is very, very minimal.
I think that when you are ableto hire somebody on it, that is
true passive income, when you'rejust doing the parts of the
business that you like increating and making the content
and designing, and you don'thave to dig into the messages or

(14:52):
the DMs or the parts of thebusiness that really are, this
time, sucker drain, which I'mnot saying that talking to my
customers is that for me, butit's something that I can pass
off and give to somebody elsewho is probably better at it
than I am, who has that training, who wants to be in there and

(15:15):
diving in and helping people andbeing there for them.
Okay, so this business it's aform of art.
We are creating a passiveincome, flexible lifestyle, and
a big piece of that isdelegating, is outsourcing, is
automating and adding thesesystems and these little things
that, though you know everythingI've talked about in this

(15:38):
episode.
It might be small, it might be,you know, adding a link here or
answering this question in theFAQs that, over time, compounds
and it builds up and it can saveso, so much time.
So I hope that this episode hashelped those of you who are
really wanting to stretch thatpassive side of your Etsy shop

(15:59):
to the fullest possible andlooking to save a bit more time.
All right, until next time.
Bye.
