Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hey there.
So in this week's episode I amanswering a question that I've
been receiving a lot.
Several of you have been askingme should I add this new
product, this new digital filethat I'm creating, to my
existing Etsy shop that iscurrently selling this other

(00:23):
digital product type?
So I'm going to answer this.
We're going to go over all ofthis what you should or
shouldn't do right after theintro.
Stay tuned.
As natural creatives, we loveour projects, we love our craft
time, and we'll never say no toa quick trip to Michael's.
Although running a handmadebusiness is rewarding, it can

(00:44):
also be overwhelming.
Hey, creative mamas, kasey here, and as a mother of two feisty
toddlers and a business ownermyself, I get the nap time
hustle and live it daily.
Managing the house, jugglingthe kids and getting those
orders out on time can train thelife right out of us.
But what if there was a way toconvert that business of yours

(01:04):
into an online passive incomegenerating machine?
Well, I'm here to tell you it'snot only possible, but
completely yours for the taking.
I'm on a mission to give all ofthe nap time hustling crafty
moms out there the right tools, systems and strategies needed to
convert your own businessesinto consistent yet flexible

(01:25):
income online, all while doingwhat you do best creating.
So put those kiddos down fortheir nap, pop in some earbuds
and kick back.
This is where you stop tradingtime for dollars.
This is where you claim yourlife back.
This is the Naptime HustlePodcast.
This is the Naptime HustlePodcast.

(01:45):
Okay, so this is something thatwe go over quite often in our
private community of students, and that is Casey.
Should I create a new Etsy shopNow?
It depends on what your productis.
It depends on what existingEtsy shop you have and what
you're selling over there.

(02:06):
Almost always, though, if youare selling like digital
products now and you're wantingto try out, like print on demand
, and start selling physicalproducts, like handmade products
, or like you want to partnerwith a fulfillment partner and
start selling these t-shirts anddrop shipping the t-shirts to
your customers, I would saystart up a new shop entirely.

(02:30):
Then, almost always, they askafter that, do I link them back
to each other?
And I would say go ahead andlink your digital product shop
to your physical handmade shop, because there's going to be the
people that don't want to createtheir t-shirt all on their own.

(02:51):
I mean, usually SVGs or digitalproducts are used to create
something else.
Right, they are a tool tocreate an end product, and so if
you have this other shop overhere that's offering them this
same design on a handmadeproduct, go ahead and link to it

(03:12):
.
Sure, like for Rizzle, anyways.
Digital products we are usuallyonly making and this is another
reason we're usually onlymaking like a few dollars for it
, whereas selling a t-shirt, wecan make like $10 profit off of
that.
So doing that as an upsell, absolutely have at it, go

(03:34):
hardcore, do your thing.
Now back to the question, thoughlike, if there is a new digital
product, like a new digitalproduct type that you're wanting
to offer, it always comes backto who is your audience for this
new digital product?
Ask yourself who's going to bebuying this.

(03:56):
Is there a similarity betweenthe people who are buying this
new product versus the peoplewho are buying this, my existing
product, or my products on myexisting Etsy shop?
Is there any overlap here?
That's the big question.
If there is an overlap, then Iwould say you know, depending on

(04:20):
how big that overlap is, Iwould say it's fine to test the
waters out on your existing shop, and you could test the waters
out, even with a physical orhandmade product, on-demand
product, right, you could justadd a few listings, see how it
goes, see how you like theprocess.
If, after a few of thoselistings, you decide, hey, this

(04:43):
is something I want to stickwith, I've gotten some sales,
let's do this Then go on over toyour new Etsy shop, niche that
Etsy shop down and go sell yourthing.
Now you could.
If there's a lot ofsimilarities between these two

(05:03):
product types, if you have avery similar audience, customer
base using each of thesedifferent product types, and if
you're able to create the samedesign and just export it to
this other file type, why not?
Yes, keep that on your Etsyshop and just add it to it Now.

(05:24):
If you have.
However, if you have a strongemail list, it may be a strong
following, and if you know thatthis other product area is a
direction that you want to take,I still feel the best way to
start an Etsy shop and this iswhat I've always preached is to
niche down and niche down hardper Etsy shop.

(05:47):
So your goal is to have an Etsyshop that answers a specific
need, that gives them a specificproduct.
Now, after a time, once you'rebigger.
You can start branching out andmaybe adding a few here and

(06:08):
there, but with how Etsy is andhow their algorithm is and how
people find you on Etsy, it isalmost always best to choose a
niche, choose a product line, one that is also high in demand,
one that is also you knowpeople are buying, you have

(06:30):
proof that people are buyingthis thing and you know this to
be true.
There is no better way to startan Etsy shop, to start a
profitable business, by honingin on that one product type, on
that one audience, on that onestyle and just over-serving
those people with that thing.
Okay Now does this mean youonly offer one file type?

(06:58):
No, like I was saying, you canoffer different file types.
Where it's a digital product,we have lots of different
digital file types that you canexport to.
But with this one product type, maybe it's a cut file, or maybe
it's a printable weddinginvitation, or maybe it's a

(07:19):
sublimation design Then youniche further and this usually
comes natural.
You niche down to your style.
So when I say riches are in theniches, you even get down into
the type of style that you offeron your shop.
So, yes, I'm selling SVGs.

(07:40):
Yes, I'm gearing those SVGs forCricut users.
Yes, I have this farmhouse style, but even in the farmhouse
style, it's still a veryspecific, minimalist, very
monotone, usually just one colorof a design and it's usually
more like my designs are moregraphic based than word based.

(08:02):
You won't find very many wordsto them.
That's how far I've niched downand that has been pretty
constant for seven years now,and though I haven't put very
much effort into my shoprecently, it's still generating
this income behind.
You know, just this littlemachine working in the
background doing its thing, generating income for me even

(08:25):
after all this time.
And it's because I'veestablished this, I've niched
down, I got my people and theycome back to me time and time
again and it's been around for awhile and people know that I'm
there and that I'm consistent.
I'm never going to leave.
Okay, and so once you know whoyou are serving and if there's

(08:47):
any overlaps in your audienceswith this new product that
you're adding on, use what I'vetold you here to decide if you
should create a new shop.
Maybe you test the waters a bit.
Add those products to your shop.
Maybe you change your SEOActually, not maybe, but make
sure that you change your SEOfor those products that you're

(09:09):
testing out so that they includethe marketing, the keyword
phrases that people aresearching on Etsy, so that
people can find them and justsee how it goes.
And then you can decide if youwant to go ahead, go full force
over here on a new Etsy shop orstay and just add these products

(09:32):
to your existing Etsy shop.
Now let's say that they do takehold, but at the same time, you
have an audience that overlaps.
That's very similar to yourcustomers who have been buying
your existing files.
So, for instance, if you havebeen selling SVG files, cut

(09:57):
files, and now you're testingthe waters with these
sublimation files, you're takingmy sublimation design in
Photoshop course, you've learnedthe things and now you want to
start.
Just, you're in, you're all inwith sublimation design.
You know that it's your thingand you're seeing success.
Now you want to transition tothis new area.

(10:19):
It's not a bad idea If you'reseeing a lot of proof in sales
that would suggest that this isthe way to go.
It may not be an absolute liketake down all of your inventory
and then mess with it, re-exportit and then put it back up.

(10:43):
You might only need to addmaybe it's just one file type,
maybe it's a PNG.
I know for many of you SVGsellers, you've already been
including PNG files to your SVGlistings, okay, and so maybe all
that you need to do to startgearing more and targeting more
of the sublimation towards thesublimation buyers instead of

(11:08):
the cut file buyers, is changingthe keyword phrases in your
listings.
Okay, the keywords.
We go all over this.
How to do this?
In Etsy, digital success myother course you can go to
caseyclincom forward slash Etsy.
I have an entire process that Iuse there.
You can grab the guide andwe're going to be opening up

(11:29):
that course very soon this year.
But in that course I go overthis listing strategy and how to
use keywords, how to researchkeywords, how to use proven
keywords to insert into yourshop and into your listing so
that you can be found.
So that's the process that Iwould recommend that you use as

(11:53):
you go back through.
And so, yeah, all that youwould have to do to retarget and
realign your branding and whoyou're serving is just by going
in and changing some of thesekeywords and adding new keywords
in.
Okay, targeting the formats, targeting their use instead of

(12:14):
SVG files or cut files.
You're just changing up thekeywords.
You're using that process thatI teach in Etsy Digital Success
to transition over to this newarea.
We talk about the tools and wetalk about the softwares you can
use to do that all inside EDS,and how to manage and edit
hundreds or thousands oflistings, as I'm sure many of
you are to that point now.
You've been around for a while.
You have hundreds of listings, you have thousands of listings,

(12:35):
as I'm sure many of you are tothat point now.
You've been around for a while.
You have hundreds of listings, you have thousands of listings
maybe, and now you want to mayberealign.
You're like, oh my gosh, editing each and every single
one of those listings.
What a headache.
No, don't fret, there's aprocess, there's tools out there
that you can use to edit inbulk, and it makes it a very

(13:00):
seamless and quicker and easierprocess.
So there's items for you outthere.
Again, if you want to learn moreabout how to sell digital
products on Etsy, you can go tocaseyclincom, forward slash Etsy
.
Or if you want to startlearning, like sublimation
design, you want to see if thisis your thing, or if you just
want to add and go that nextlevel with the designs, whatever

(13:23):
you're selling, no matter thedigital download product.
You can go to kcclincom, forward slash sublimation, or
click the link in this episodeto learn more about that
sublimation course that I havecoming out Like as I am
releasing this episode.
It's going to be so, so muchfun.
It's going to take your designsto the next level and I can't

(13:44):
wait to have you guys all inthis new program.
All right, until next time.
See you then.
