The NHB Playgroup from Nick Hern Books is BACK - now with one fantastic play to read and discuss each month, followed by a Q&A with the writer.
In this episode of The NHB Playgroup Q&A Podcast, we spoke to Jez Butterworth about his fascinating and enigmatic play The River. We also explore Jez's massively successful career as a playwright and screenwriter - including why his debut play winning an Olivier Award was actually 'disastrous', how it feels to write a James Bond film, what makes an idea worth pursuing, and more.
The River premiered at the Royal Court Theatre, London, in 2012, directed by Ian Rickson. It was later produced at the Circle in the Square Theatre, New York.

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist
It’s 1996 in rural North Carolina, and an oddball crew makes history when they pull off America’s third largest cash heist. But it’s all downhill from there. Join host Johnny Knoxville as he unspools a wild and woolly tale about a group of regular ‘ol folks who risked it all for a chance at a better life. CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist answers the question: what would you do with 17.3 million dollars? The answer includes diamond rings, mansions, velvet Elvis paintings, plus a run for the border, murder-for-hire-plots, and FBI busts.
