or maybe even last night, regard the the n C
double A green lighting rules change to allow university and
college to directly pay their athletes. So I just want

to I want to start with that, Like, what what
do you? I know it's a waiting federal approval, but
right now it's like it's a it's conditionally approved until
they get that final approval and then you know, money
can start going straight from the university right to the
athlete's hand.

So what's your thoughts on that. I think it's gonna
be I think it's gonna be good. I think you're
gonna cut out the nil thing and I think they're
gonna make it up some guidelines.

As far as it's gonna benefit like we were talking about,
UH and our last show is gonna benefit the players
as well as the university, I'm all for it. As
long as it protects the players as as well as
the coaches and stuff like that, and hold everybody accountable.
I think it's gonna come up with a thing where
where they're gonna say, hey, the transfer a portal. You
can only get in there and transfer portal maybe one

or two times. I think the second time you're gonna
have to probably have a penalty. You're gonna have to
sit out a year or something like that, or you know,
miss the season. But I'm all forward, so that way,
you you know, you cut out a lot of the
the you know, all the behind the scenes and the
stuff that we don't really know about this going on,

I think it's going to be a good situation where
they're gonna at least have some guidelines. I love the NIL,
I love the kids getting their money. I just think
it's should be some guidelines and you know, work with
the youngs and as far as holding them accountable. Hey,
if you sign a little contract, because they all want
to play pro and that's the ultimate goal. And as
you know, and as I know the pros, you sign

a contract, you are legally bonded to that contract.

So right, man, clear that's up for me. Because I'm
a little confused. So if this, if this deal goes through,
if this, if this rule change goes through, so this
would get rid of NIL completely.

I still think it might be some n I L
deals that you might be able to do because like
the university might pay you, but uh, what about Gatorade? Right,
what if I have an N I deal with Gatorade,

my bread. I'd rather just go through the NIL process
and get that way, Like like the kids are doing now,
so can they do that?

can't wait for the full article to come out and
we find out all the rules and everything that's going on,
you know what I'm saying.

think it's uh, I think against the schools the opportunity
to attract some players to the university just then and
also give them a chance to retain some folks because
I know we've seen some teams this year where they
lost their entire roster.

with what was it, Baylor University playing from Baylor Left, Like,
come on, bro, yeah, that's not that's not setting the
kids up to be you know, come on, we you know, listen.

I get it, y'all trying to get as much money
as y'all can because y'all not going to the pros anyway.

being said, it has to be one two years. We
can't you know, we can't sit up here and be
talking about, Hey, the n C Double A's is a
product that is it's not as good well it can't

be as good. You can't get you know, you got
a team that's coming up coming together people the n
C Double A's and college basketball starting to be like
a you program.

going over there.

You barely practice with you I mean you practiced with
him for that particular, you know, for that season.

You can register and be enrolled in August, in July
and gone by December January.

From Bay the freshman that was at Marni ver Day, right,
that was with Cooper. He went to Bowler point guard.
He enrolled in in the summer. He gone, he ain't
even do both semesters. He gone, yeah, so now he
gona he gonna be yu. Now, hey listen, somebody gonna

give you four million dollars. Hey, you got to take
that or three million whatever it was, definitely you have
to take that.

The whole team, coach, come on, bro, I mean, you

So I'm still I'm still kind of confused or the
whole thing. I do like, like I said, I do
like the school having control of a bag where they
can you know, distribute money to their athletes and and
try to control you know, them jumping into the transfer
portal or or or or taking other nil deals you know,

somewhere else. I do like that aspect of it, but
I don't know if it will have a strong effect
on on I call them the blue blood schools, you know,
like the big time universities, because those those kids, you know,
they get thrown n I l big time nil bucks

every season, you know, just like you see somebody leaving
Georgia and going to Miami, or know the Dame and
going to Ohio State or whatever the case may be. Like,
because those kids are getting thrown a lot of nil
money at them. And I know, like the men majors
and below, I know they're getting you know, nil deals too.
But I think if anybody is going to affect in

a positive way, it will be them, those med majors
and below, where the school will have a bucket of
money to kind of like, look, you don't have to
go nowhere. Look we'll we'll pay you. We make sure
you know you got money in your pockets. And look,
if we stay here, we can compete with anybody and
we've seen it because what the big colleges are doing,

it's taking the men majors and the lower division IE
players and they bring them to their team and helping
them gain success. But if you stay at the ME
and major below and you staying there three years, four years,
whatever the case may be, you know you're mature. You're
a mature student athlete going against Steed's won one and

down freshman's and that's going to bring success to your school,
just like back. Let's say take take Dayton for example,
back in twenty twenty, that was COVID, right, Yeah, so
that that year, you know, even dating is considered as
a med major. You know, that year they was going
into the tournament as a number one seed. They had

the national Player of the year because they was able
to keep that that group together. And this is before
n I. L If it was nil, they probably would
have lost Obi Topping and a lot of other folks
and they been in that position, right, And I guess
the last point I want to make on this, I
really don't know the difference between the rule change and

what some universities have already been doing. So I think
I mentioned that maybe a few shows back but I
looked it up again just to make sure that was
right about this. But VCU, Virginia Commonwealth University, that basketball team,
the university is already paying their players three hundred and

eighty four thousand dollars per year. So the university is
allocated four to five million dollars to pay basketball players,
which would be distributed among the men's and women's team.
And that's part of a larger trending college athletics where
schools are paying athletes directly for their name, image and likeness.

So so I don't understand what's the difference between like
what vs. You have already been doing.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
I don't think don't I don't mean to cut you off.
I don't think it's nothing. It's a difference. I think
they sort of laid the blueprint to show the NCAA, Hey,
look we could do it like this, Like let's how
we can go to NIL.

Let's look, we're gonna show you like this.

Yeah, we're gonna we're gonna pay our players this amount,
you know. Like I said, I'm pretty sure if they
have a superstar to go out and do a little
little NIL deal with the local piece of shop whatever,
I'm pretty sure, you know, some guidelines and stuff like that.
I just think that they want to try to police it,

you know what I mean, and not let it be
the wild wild West.

That's just my personal opinion.

But you know, I'm cool with it being the wild
wild West too, so you know matter, you know what
I'm saying. Like, it was times where I would have left,
you know, my my my sophomore year because you know,
I was a prop forty eight, so I only played
three years, and in my first year, they wasn't trying
to play me at all. Being the decoordinator, I mean,

defensive back coaches getting ready to go. I'm getting ready
to go to we not know. I'm getting ready almost
went to blow, you know, to the point where I started.
That's how I started playing both ways. It's because the
defensive back coach they say, okay, well a head coach,
and Steve Wilson said, you ain't gonna use cool give
him to me right right. So, but they would have

been to a point where I would have been like, man,
I'm out. I'm not sitting behind Are you trying to
play this dude? Because you recruited I'm not one of
your recruit head coach having a step in and this,
and then the decoordinator that I rock with, you know,
he left, so I would have I trust me, I
would have been in the portal and this is somebody
who is killing I'm leading the country and.

if it's a guideline, I think it'll help everybody out

need to sort of like not necessarily police it, but
just get some rules and guidelines in there so that
way everybody knows what the rules and guidelines are and

see some regulations put put on it, you know, the

we put some regulations on what these kids kids can do,

has some type of regulations. You know, he he he
pressing the team to go from two million to four million,
you know, and then a team know they staying at
ten toes down saying no, we can't do it, and
then he threatening them to not you know, to not play.
And then they say, well, you know guess what, No, no,

it ain't no threatenings. And then and then you go
to yeah, and then you go to U C. L
A and make less money than what he was getting.

Well, well, Kobe, I'm gonna be honest with you, that
probably ain't coming from the kid. That's coming from the
people around the kid. That's coming from a circle, that's
coming from whoever whoever is representing him. You know what
I'm saying. See, people, that's the problem where the people
keep talking about the n I L and this and
this and that.

need to honor a contract. So if you got a contract,

to blows with with your coach for not playing you
and you wanted to you know, you wanted the top
kickoff returners and DB's uh in all of D one,
double A and one day you know what I mean.
So you know and somebody like me when I was
in a situation, you know what stopped me from transferring

was to regulations, and so I think if there was okay,
you have these rules in place. But if you can
submit something and showing that you have a good reason
for one to leave one school to go to another,
and it goes through a review panel or whatever the
case may be, and you get approved, then you can

move on to another school instead. Yeah, And that's what
I'm saying. And it won't be no penalty. Yeah, and
it won't.

the first time you jumping to transfer a portal, it's

was had an average age that was older than the

because they just came out with that rule.

Of those kids are four year kids in five year
in COVID year kids. You gotta remember, we still we
still this is that last crop, this is last senior
this senior year here, that is the last bit of
those COVID people where they got that extra COVID year

of clients that kids that I trained or whatever, this

is there, this is this, this up and coming year
will be their senior years and they were the COVID
babies that came out that COVID year and things like
that or whatever. So we still got kids that's still
getting extra years because of the COVID.

looked like to me is he needed to get that
one game under his belt and see, okay, this is
