Thelma Sigurhansdóttir: Bridging the Gap Between the Human and the Cosmos

This episode explores the work of Iceland-native artist Thelma Sigurhansdóttir, also known as Thelma Gella, and her debut solo exhibition, Habitat, currently on display at the Art Lab Gallery in Staten Island. Drawing inspiration from the landscapes of her homeland, her pieces often feature vast mountains and everyday objects colliding with surrealist elements, particularly the striking motif of spectral or enlarged human hands interacting with the canvas. These cosmic interventions, whether violently tearing through scenes or providing dreamy stability, serve to challenge the viewer's perception of reality and the relationship between the ordinary and the extraordinary. The Habitat exhibition, which features works like Within Grasps, Cascading Veil, and Escape, opened on May 10th and remains open through May 31st.
