Two millennial sisters watch and rewatch Friday Night Lights, 20 years after its release.
Oops! we are back from accidental break going into the big rivalry game. Coach Taylor hems and haws (again) before caving to town pressure (again). Must Love Matt saves the day (also again), Lyla remains the worst but Tim's stock is rising, and lets please give Tyra something more to do?
What’s up with this episode title? A little bit of a filler between games again as we go through “rivalry week” aka school sanctioned vandalism and property damage. Coach Taylor also scores no points (ha!) with us keeping a 100 person party from Tammy, Matt continues to go through it, and Tim lurks in Lyla’s room.
Well the game did not go well, and the team is in shambles. Coach Taylor is being put through the wringer (again) by literally everyone in town. Jason finally loses it on annoying Lyla and her toxic hope, and we get the most uncomfortable kiss of all time. Oh and poor Matt is being replaced?? This can't end well.
We deal with the fallout of Jason's injury, Matt is struggling with his new status, and Coach Taylor silently freaks out while fielding unsolicited commentary from every random that crosses his path. V concerned about the outcome of game two, if only for Matt's mental health.
We're baaaack to teen high school dramas coming to you from Dillon, Texas. Wow this football stuff is pretty important down there huh? Do you think God loves football but also finds Coach Taylor's daughter as annoying as we do? When does Tim Riggins become unimpeachable? Let's go!
Recapping and reviewing all timer The Lion King. Special guest Timmy Vernon helps us break it all down in pretty minute detail (not sorry). Is this movie in everyone's Disney top five all time? (yes). Does this pod run longer than the run time of this movie? (also yes). Has anyone really recovered from the stampede scene 30 years later? (absolutely not). Stay until the end of our ramblings and also rewatch this asap because it...
Recapping and reviewing gen alpha (yikes) favorite Moanaaa. Returning champion Adam helps us break down the good, the bad, and the dangers of over-harvesting coconuts and the potential contributions to climate change. Is this movie mainly targeted to those born after 2010? (yes). Does it still find a way to elicit tears from some of us? (also, yes). What is the minimum number of animal sidekicks to be an official Disney princesses...
Recapping and reviewing the 2000 cult classic The Emperor's New Groove. No idea if everyone loves this movie as much as we do or as much as new guest start Maddie loves Kronk. Did we watch this late into our teens? (yes). Is Sting somehow involved? (also, yes). What does the empire have against old people? (hard to say). Join us as we try our hardest to capture the awesomeness that is this movie (its really funny we swear!)
Recapping and reviewing the 1989 classic The Little Mermaid. We are back baby with our season 3 (though not The OC's for obvious reasons), switching tacks to review some of the old greats! Not surprising since nostalgia is one of the greatest forces behind this pod after all. Is this still good after all these years? (yes). Is Ariel kind of a brat? (also, yes). What is Ursula's problem? (it's murky). Join us on our l...
Recapping episode 24 of season 2 of The O.C.. It's a family affair as cousin Natalie joins us for the JAM PACKED season 2 finale (and our farewell to this series as we all know it only goes downhill from here). Kelly Rowan and Peter Gallagher earn their Emmy noms as we watch Kirsten finally hit rock bottom in the aftermath of Caleb's demise. Ryan finally (???) puts the puzzle together about what happened with Trey and Mar...
Recapping episode 23 of season 2 of The O.C.. Surf industry veteran Adam joins us for the penultimate episode of the season! Kirsten and Sandy deal with the aftermath of her shockingly not fatal car accident while being completely unaware of what is going on with their children (Ryan running off to Chino on his Trey mission and Seth inexplicably meeting George Lucas??). Marissa's event planning capability is tested for the pro...
Recapping episode 22 of season 2 of The O.C.. Power guest Ellen returns for the second time this season (much to our surprise) to breakdown our next episode (and the merits of the series' storytelling capabilities). Kirsten is SPIRALING, Sandy is still winning all of our hearts, Jess is doing her best Peeves impression, Trey is hanging on by a thread, Marissa is falling apart, and poor Ryan just wants everyone to get along. Th...
Recapping episode 21 of season 2 of The O.C.. We tackle one of the more serious episodes (at least in part) with returning champion Nickel! Bienvenido a Miami as Sandy, Seth, and Ryan visit the Nana. Seth's superfluous storyline is overshadowed by an all time Sandy plot getting rid of "Bobby." Meanwhile, Kirsten is finally over the edge re: Carter, and the Marissa / Trey interaction takes a dark turn.
Recapping episode 20 of season 2 of The O.C.. Finally adhering to a legitimate schedule, we return with guest star Billy lending his expertise on 2000s mens fashion, high school parties for cool teens, and what exactly Zach is trying to do with Summer and Seth this ep. Ryan and Marissa also play undercover cop (???) to save Trey with Sandy's blessing (also ???), while Kirsten's stock trends even further down with us from ...
Recapping episode 19 of season 2 of The O.C.. Buckle up for the last gasp of season 2. Kirsten continues her petty parade (read: Carter crush), Lance actually seems not terrible and bonds with Julie, and Marissa inserts herself unnecessarily into Ryan's relationship with Trey and is shocked when it leads to some growing tension (um... duh?). We are also completely out on Seth and the boresville comic storyline.
Recapping episode 18 of season 2 of The O.C.. A fun episode as we are now firmly in the last act of the season! Trey's refusal to admit he needs help getting his new life started leads to some friction with Ryan and hijinks ensue around this and the event of the week / non-charity yard sale. The comic book also resurfaces from centuries ago (yawn), and Carter is still around.
Recapping episode 17 of season 2 of The O.C.. We are back with what feels like a set up episode for the remainder of the season. *New character/actor alert* as Ryan's loose cannon older brother Trey literally kicks and pushes himself into the plot. Kirsten also feels guilty as her crush on Carter sort of gets exposed (though not as exposed as Julie is this ep). Summer, Seth, and Marissa also participate in the episode.
Recapping episode 16 of season 2 of The O.C.. After an unplanned break for the holidays (sure!) we are back with another mostly lighthearted O.C. classic ep. Marissa becomes relevant again, Ryan gets a little more pep in his step, Sandy and Julie are still trying to deal with Lance, and the Kirsten crush on Carter is reaching uncomfortable levels. We also say a weirdly abrupt goodbye to Olivia Wilde.
Recapping episode 15 of season 2 of The O.C.. An instant classic as we FINALLY get the gang all back together for a full episode that is honestly also kind of random, but still great. The Sandy and Kirsten stuff takes another twist as Carter and his bad style enter the picture, and we start to root for Julie again.
Recapping episode 14 of season 2 of The O.C.. We FINALLY say good riddance to this season's B team by axing both Lindsay and Rebecca in one cleansing episode that gets us ready for the remainder of the season. Seth and Summer finally fully circle back, and we see Marissa becoming relevant on the horizon.
