Grieving is a stressful psychological and physical event. Feeling grief causes inflammation in the body, which can increase blood pressure and put us at risks for blood clots. When we experience grief, we are more vulnerable to viral and bacterial infection. From an osteopathic perspective, it is no surprise that we are currently experiencing a pandemic that is centered around, and weakens, our lungs and blood vessels. This is exactly where grief lies in our bodies.
Learn about the two energetic disturbances that an experience like grief can cause and how our energy is affected by it. Energy is our life force that is unseen, unheard and untouched. It is the vitality and spark within us that allows us to function on a physical level and process on an intuitive level. Our energy is affected by what we think, feel, hear, eat and do. It is also affected by others.

THE TAKE AWAY:
The term, “they died of a broken heart," isn’t just a saying. Grief can have major physiological effects on the human body, and can actually leave us more susceptible to cardiovascular disease.
There is an unprecedented amount of grief in the world right now and the COVID-19 pandemic has truly demonstrated our absolute urgency in needing to gather tools to help us process and move through grief. In this episode, I suggest a list of ways to manage grief. These things can be helpful alongside trauma therapy and loss counseling.

Cardiac Cowboys
The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
