What have you done?
A little bit of this, a littlebit of that, but not a whole lot
of anything.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
Yes, your performance
review will reflect that, I
know it will.
I got to work on that.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
Corrected, I'll be
put on the.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
PIP, that'll be your
first warning it won't be,
really won't be, no.
Speaker 4 (02:02):
That's funny.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
Oh, she doesn't know
you at all, she doesn't, she
doesn't.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
No, I had a great
summer break, went and did a lot
of stuff, went to Europe I wasgoing to say Italy, but that's
not right at all, is it?
It's not.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Not unless I slept
through the whole thing.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
Went to Europe.
Brought some friends had somefun.
Europe Brought some friends hadsome fun and I remember some of
it Got to celebrate BastilleDay.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
In Paris.
That was pretty cool.
How did you know?
Speaker 1 (02:32):
I heard about it, saw
pictures.
Speaker 4 (02:34):
Yes, it was almost
like you were there.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
It was almost like I
was there.
I've never seen pictures thatlook so real before.
Speaker 5 (02:41):
Well.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
Like you could reach
out and touch a French person.
Oui, reach out on a table andgrab a baguette with butter, and
I actually could taste it.
Speaker 6 (02:49):
Yes, I've never had
that experience before.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
Well, I actually was
able to taste it.
You should have seen theproduce.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
The produce was
pretty darn amazing.
Speaker 4 (02:57):
From the photos.
From the photos, yes.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
I mean, the cherries
were huge, huge, they were not
cheap.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
They were huge.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
But they were like
apples, they were, they really
were big they were pretty In thepictures In the pictures.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
So I know half of us
went to Europe for a brisk two
week.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
A holiday.
Speaker 4 (03:16):
A holiday.
We did not see Madonna we didnot.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
She was there, though
.
Speaker 4 (03:22):
She was.
I know she was in Europe.
She was on the streets.
She was.
I know she was in Europe.
She was on the streets InEurope, and Europe is such a
small place that you thoughtwe'd run into her.
Yeah, you thought we'd run intoher somewhere, it's funny that
she didn't say where in Europeshe would be, it's like where in
the world is Carmen Sandiego?
Where in the world is Madonna?
But no proof this time of ever.
But no.
(03:42):
So we flew out there, did twodays, three days, two days,
three days, two nights, I thinkis what it was in Dublin Ireland
.
It was like 36 hours.
It was like 36 hours.
So what is that?
A day and a half.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
There were two nights
.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
A day and a half.
There were two nights and threedays.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
It was 36 hours that
we were actually on the ground.
Speaker 4 (04:05):
Yes, it was pretty
fast-paced.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
It was a lot of fun.
It was.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
As you all know,
obviously I'm a little bit Irish
, and so it's always great to goback and be with my people.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
You live with Irish,
live with rock and roll.
Speaker 4 (04:23):
Yes, yes, I don't
know, maybe I use Irish Spring,
does that?
Speaker 2 (04:28):
help.
Does that make you more Irish?
Speaker 4 (04:32):
I think so Okay.
So we left there, flew to Parisas you may have gathered by the
Bastille Day thing.
Did not know we were there forBastille Day until we were
physically there.
Actually it was the flight over.
I was reading through thein-flight magazine and they were
(04:53):
like European celebration'shappening or whatever, and it
was like Bastille Day and I waslike huh, and I looked at the
data and I'm like that's in twodays.
And so I thumbed through andI'm like that's in two days, and
so I thumbed through and I'mlike, oh my gosh, we're actually
going to be here for that istheir liberation from.
(05:14):
Louis XIV?
Yeah, I think so, and it'squite the spectacle.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
It was a lot of pomp
and circumstance.
A lot of pomp and circumstance.
Speaker 4 (05:23):
It was pretty cool
Fireworks flying off the Eiffel
Tower.
They had fireworks flying offthe land, which, by the way,
just a tip If you're going to dofireworks, don't do them next
to the Eiffel Tower, becausefireworks don't go that high, so
the fireworks looked a littleunimpressive next to the
(05:44):
monumental 1,000-foot ironstructure.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
Vince and I were up
and at breakfast for their air
flyover before their parade.
Speaker 4 (05:55):
Oh, yes, that was
really cool.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
They had some really
big ones and then they had
smaller jets that were releasingblue and red.
You know their flag colors andthat was really neat.
Louis XVI.
Speaker 4 (06:09):
Louis XVI.
I was up early enough to watchthe recap on Facebook.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
That's like when you
get up on New Year's Day and you
catch the replay of the RoseParade.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
Or, you know,
Thanksgiving.
I used to always get up as akid and we'd watch the Macy's
Thanksgiving Day Parade right InNew York City.
And now it's like all right, show me the five best floats.
And if there's a performancethat's like incredible, I'll see
that.
Outside of that, I'm notgetting up on Thanksgiving.
On my day off to 6 am a parade, and it was worse because the
(06:47):
further west you go, like youknow, for us we're an hour
behind New York City time, butfor you Vince like growing up in
California, Six in the morning, never saw it.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
Never saw it, never
saw it.
Speaker 4 (06:57):
Did you ever check
Facebook the next morning?
Speaker 1 (06:59):
No, I didn't.
I was then and still am not abig fan of Facebook, so I didn't
.
I was then and still am not abig fan of Facebook, so I didn't
bother.
Speaker 4 (07:07):
I could see that.
I could certainly see that Nowwe did that.
I hung out in Paris for severaldays and it was really
absolutely just gorgeous.
I love Paris.
It's one of the few places thatwe've been that I did not think
I would like, and then nowwe've been there a couple times,
it's like it's everything youthink it would be.
(07:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (07:30):
Yeah, it's.
I always thought tourist trapit's going to be, they're going
to be stuck up.
As an American, it's going tobe difficult because that's what
we're taught Like.
Oh, french hate Americans.
And you get there and thepeople in general are nice and
(07:50):
the city's clean and the food isstellar.
Yes, the food was great.
I mean just absolutely great.
Yes, and I don't even mean likenecessarily the high end
restaurants, I mean like thecity cafe that's on the corner,
yeah, great better excellent oh,the butter butter makes
everything better, oh yeah, youget butter and it's got the salt
crystals on top.
It's already salted butter butthen they salt the salted butter
Extra salt.
Yeah, yeah.
(08:11):
So we did that, then went toLondon, which is actually the
whole reason we went there, andwe went to a show.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
We did go to a show.
Speaker 4 (08:20):
There is a rum show
that happens in London and we
talked about going to it forseveral years now, and when the
tickets popped up for sale andthey were still available it's
one of those things where theshow pops up and it sells out
immediately and we were able toscore tickets we were like,
let's make it happen.
So we made a whole thing of itand that was very cool.
(08:44):
I don't know or didn't at thetime know a lot about rum.
I'm definitely a bourbon person, if y'all haven't figured that
out and it was a fascinatingshow just learning about how
different islands in theCaribbean or in mainland England
or Great Britain should say orFrance, or South Africa, or like
(09:08):
there's so many places.
Australia that make rum and thenthey all do it so differently,
so differently, Just kind ofexperiencing that.
It was really really cool justgetting to see all these
different people and thesepeople they're obsessed oh yeah,
yeah, passion, it's a very niceword.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (09:30):
And so it was a good
time.
Good hang Did a couple days ofthat, and I love that.
They gave you all the bottledwater you wanted.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (09:38):
And they had
recycling and everything they
did the cardboard box water too.
So if you're you know a lot ofpeople don't like plastic
bottles because it's not nearlyas recyclable as we're kind of
told it is.
But the cardboard bottles arecompletely recyclable and it was
really cool to see them beresponsible like that.
Speaker 3 (09:59):
I guess you could say
yeah, crackers.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
Crackers.
Obviously, if you're samplingrums, you need a little carbs, a
little palate cleanser.
Yep and carbs and carbs andcarbs.
So it was nice that they wereand they were responsible.
No one really got crazy BecauseI was nervous.
Anytime I go to a show, we wentto Bourbon Fest.
We talked about that before onthe podcast.
You always are concerned aboutall right, you're sampling a
(10:21):
bunch of different liquors thatcan certainly get out of control
, but this place was very.
Everybody there was proper andno one got drunk, no one got
whatever.
It was very fun and everybodywas on their best behavior.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
I don't know how to
put that.
I think the people that wentwere passionate about rum as
well.
Not just the people putting iton and bringing their product,
but the attendees, yes, such asourselves.
Speaker 4 (10:49):
We show up and we're
all like in T-shirts and shorts,
kind of like what I'm wearingright now.
And so, if you're listening tothis, I'm wearing a T-shirt and
shorts, but there's people therelike with their flowery
tropical shirts on theirHawaiian shirts and everything.
I'm like I didn't think aboutthat, duh, why didn't?
We bring our flowery shirts orwhatever.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
No, it was a great
time it was a good time
Educational Got to try somestuff that we can't get here.
I really enjoyed myself.
Speaker 4 (11:22):
I really did.
If you don't know, cuba is ahuge producer of rum.
They produce some of the bestin the world and obviously,
being American, we can't get ithere.
So they had a few Cuban rumproducers that were there, yeah,
and being able to try theirproducts, it's like it was
pretty amazing.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
Pretty awesome.
Speaker 4 (11:41):
So, but yeah, outside
of that just been a few more
days in london went back to ouruh favorite pie place yes, uh
it's a.
It's a pub outside of umharrods.
You know harrods, the big giantdepartment store.
Um it's a.
There's a place there thatsells these pies that are just
(12:02):
kind of like a shepherd's pie.
Yes, but the gravy.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
It's good.
Speaker 4 (12:07):
Really good.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
It's so good, it is
very good.
I think the crust on them isgood too, In the gravy of course
.
Speaker 4 (12:16):
Yeah, and the meat's
extremely flavorful.
They don't give you enough meat.
I think that's their onlynegative.
If you're like I, want six oreight ounces of meat in my pie,
you'll be disappointed.
Because, it's like three ouncesof meat, so it's not much, but
it's just so tasty and it's acool spot.
(12:37):
It's a cool hang.
It's so different than anAmerican establishment.
You know, you've got these.
It's a British pub, properBritish pub.
So there's no parking anywhereat all near it, it's only
walk-up access.
And then when they get busywhich they weren't this time
they were really slow because wewere there at a weird time.
But when they are really busy, you see people just outside of
(13:00):
the pub just standing next tolike the pubs all have like
small tables outside along thewall.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
Like a bar shelf.
Like a bar shelf.
Speaker 4 (13:10):
Or a ledge or
something.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
Or a ledge yeah,
exactly Not in this table, a
ledge or a bar shelf, and peoplehang out outside and have a
pint.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
Or just stand on the
sidewalk next to the building.
Yes, yeah.
Speaker 4 (13:22):
And their laws on
smoking are a lot looser than
ours.
So, next to the building, yes,and their laws on smoking are a
lot looser than ours.
So, although they're notsmoking in the pub, they can
just step right outside the door.
And I mean like right outsidethe door, like you know how in
America we have the 30, 50, 80feet away from the door, for you
to smoke.
They don't have that.
No, they're like be mostly outof the threshold of the door.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
As long as you're
poofing outside, you're fine
Sure.
Speaker 4 (13:45):
Exactly, it's cold
outside.
You can actually just open thedoor, just blow your smoke out
and then close the door andyou're fine.
It's very different rules, butthe food's fantastic.
So, yeah, that was fun.
I can't think of anything elsecrazy that happened on that trip
.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
We went back to the
Cuban restaurant twice.
Speaker 4 (14:04):
Oh my gosh, we
discovered a Cuban restaurant,
cuba's the theme Cubanrestaurant over there.
I would say, like Miami Cubanyes.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
Would you agree?
Yeah, I agree, yeah.
Speaker 4 (14:19):
I don't think it was
like.
So those of y'all know, ericand I we actually went to Havana
, 2016, 17, somewhere aroundthere, and got to really hang
out, explore and eat their foodand enjoy their culture.
Back, when it was still legal,we weren't there.
We didn't do the like jump toMexico and then illegally jump
in the country.
We were there legally for acouple days, but we did get to
(14:40):
try their food and their cuisine.
It's very different than theCuban restaurants Like they
don't have a Cuban sandwich atall.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
It just doesn't exist
.
Speaker 4 (14:48):
But this place had a
Cuban sandwich that was
unbelievably delicious.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
Their bread was good.
Speaker 4 (14:54):
Yes, so soft.
Speaker 3 (14:55):
But I think that's
because the bakery next door was
probably making it for them.
It was really good Whatever yougot to do, yeah.
Speaker 4 (15:03):
It was good.
Yeah, gotta do.
Yeah, it was good.
Uh, yeah, I got the the um, Igot a slow roasted pork, uh dish
, and it came with rice andbeans and I ended up mixing all
of it together and making thislike black bean and rice, not
stew, because it wasn't wet, butit, oh, it was fire it was so
(15:23):
good, it was really good.
And then they had the plantains.
Speaker 3 (15:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (15:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (15:30):
So if you are going
to London anytime soon and
you're like I need to hit theseplaces up, drop us an email.
We'll be happy to share ourfavorite restaurant picks in the
city.
You want the best beefWellington you ever had.
We know where that's at too, wedo.
We are certainly out there tohook you up and help you out,
but no, it was a really greattrip.
It was very fast.
I mean, I know we said twoweeks, but all that in two weeks
(15:51):
it was go, go, go, go go it wasnot super relaxing.
There were moments where it waskind of relaxing, but there was
one moment where we literallyspeed, walked two miles.
Speaker 3 (16:04):
Yeah, it was a long
way.
We didn't plan for Bastille Dayto have roads closed down.
Speaker 5 (16:09):
Yeah, our entire
bridges.
Speaker 3 (16:12):
So yeah, the bridge
was closed down and had we
walked across the bridge itwould have been ten minutes, but
you had to walk down one sideof the river to the bridge that
was opened, across the bridgeand then back up the other side
of the river to get where wewere going.
Speaker 4 (16:27):
And on Cobble Street
Road, which is lumpy and it was
to a theater show, and so we'reall dressed up.
Yeah, we're in the fancy shoesthat have zero insoles.
Speaker 1 (16:41):
They weren't walking
shoes, that's for sure.
Speaker 4 (16:43):
Oh yeah, and there
was a moment there where it was
like how badly do we want to seethis show that was fun and you
said that normally when the showstarts they close the doors.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
You don't you?
Speaker 6 (16:57):
don't get in.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
I think they
understood because we were a
little bit late and there wereothers that came after us, yes,
that were still allowed to comein.
I think they understood that, with that bridge being closed,
and all the roads being closedand people were choosing their
spot to watch fireworks early inthe afternoon.
Fireworks weren't until 11 pm.
They were choosing theirfirework spots early in the
(17:20):
afternoon.
So not only were we just outthere power walking to get there
, we were power walking throughcrowds of people making our way
to the theaters.
Speaker 4 (17:28):
And I do love the
French for this reason of like
they are claiming their spots.
So in America you claim yourspot and you just kind of like
sit there mad until the timecomes.
Not the French, no no, they hada picnic basket.
They had six.
No no, they had a picnic basket.
They had six bottles of wine, they had charcuterie.
(17:49):
They were having a blast.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
They had a great day.
Speaker 4 (17:53):
And the scene.
I mean you're on the SeineRiver, which is gorgeous.
It's a beautiful river.
It runs right through the heartof Paris, so you're kind of
constantly going back and forthacross it, no matter what you do
.
Yes, constantly going back andforth across it, no matter what
you do.
Yes, and so they're just on theriverbanks, just like.
This is where we're parkingourselves.
Can I have a little morebaguette or a little more
prosciutto?
Perhaps they're just living itup?
It was very cool to see howthey do it versus us, Like when
(18:18):
we do the 4th of July deal.
It's all right, let's go fightthe crowd and try to get on top
of the parking garage to watchthe fireworks.
You know, it's just such adifferent experience.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
Yeah, it was
different.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
But I tell you, our
saving grace really truly was
Eric, and thank you so much, eric, for Hauling tush To yeah,
for getting us over there.
He actually ran ahead andliterally ran ahead and went to
the theater and was like theyhadn't quite closed the door.
(18:49):
He got there right before theyclosed and he was like I got
three more people coming.
Can you please hang?
Speaker 2 (18:55):
tight for us and so
they're like, yeah.
Speaker 4 (18:57):
So we got there and
we told them we were actually
with.
They knew exactly who we werewith and went right to their
table.
It was so dark in that theaterthough, oh very dark.
I smacked.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
Very dark.
Speaker 4 (19:07):
I ran into someone so
hard I didn't see them at all
and just my right side of mybody, just body checked someone
and I felt so bad I'm like Ijust slammed into their skull.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
It's koozies.
Speaker 5 (19:19):
It's koozies I'm
sorry, so it was a one-mile
hustle.
Speaker 4 (19:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (19:23):
Yeah, 1.04.
Speaker 4 (19:25):
So we're sitting
there Now.
Thank God, the theater's cold, which most theaters are.
Speaker 5 (19:32):
Thank God, because
I'm just sitting there just
sweats just pouring off me.
It still took me 15 minutes tocool off, I know.
Speaker 4 (19:35):
And it ended up being
a fantastic show.
It was so fun and well done.
Speaker 5 (19:41):
Unexpected for me,
for me too, and well done.
Speaker 1 (19:43):
Unexpected for me.
For me too, yeah, I was reallysurprised with the show.
Speaker 5 (19:47):
You didn't know,
didn't know.
People are allowed to watchthat.
Speaker 4 (19:52):
I had ideas what we
were going to see, and it was
beyond.
It's like when you go to aCirque du Soleil show for the
first time.
Speaker 5 (19:57):
If you've never been
to.
Speaker 4 (19:57):
Cirque du Soleil.
Maybe you've seen them on TV oryou've seen the news and you
see a little bit of it andyou're like, oh, that's
interesting, but I mean you knowwhatever.
And then when you're actuallyin a Cirque du Soleil show
performing no, when you're in aCirque du Soleil show and you're
watching it, it's like how arethey actually doing that in
front of me?
Like it's unbelievable.
(20:20):
That's kind of what this thingwas like.
So no, it was a great time itwas.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
It was good Melissa.
Speaker 4 (20:27):
what was your
favorite part of the trip?
Speaker 3 (20:29):
I definitely think
this show was great.
That was a highlight.
Speaker 4 (20:35):
Oh, you got a coffee
mug from there too, didn't you?
I did?
Speaker 3 (20:37):
Yeah, I'll do all
three.
So Dublin, it would have been.
The view from the top of theGuinness tour that we took.
The view up there was gorgeous.
And then Paris was the food, and then Bastille Day, and to be
(20:58):
there celebrating with thepeople of France, the vibe was
pretty cool to be a part of, andthe show, of course.
And then, uh, london, london, Ithink it was.
Uh, mr foggs oh, I forgot allabout mr foggs.
We ended up going to, and therum festival too.
(21:18):
I mean, that's, that's you know, but uh, mr fogg is kind of a
chain tavern bar thing, but eachtavern is unique and it's very
eclectic Lots of knickknacks andthey have a theme and it's kind
of like a speakeasy.
They were a lot of fun and theyhad what like 10 of them.
Speaker 4 (21:38):
One of them was legit
a speakeasy.
It was.
You walk into a post office andthey're like are you here for a
?
That wasn't a, mr Foggs, though, was it?
Oh, it was not.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
You're right.
The first one we went to,though, where you had to follow
the ball.
Speaker 4 (21:56):
Explain that, because
that was really cool.
Speaker 3 (21:58):
So that was the
telephone.
So we rolled in and they hadstairs immediately that went
downstairs.
And a hostess was standing anda hostess was standing and she's
like do you have reservations?
We're like no, and she's likewell, let me call and see if
they have availability.
So she calls and she's likejust one second and she hung up
(22:19):
and all of a sudden there's atelephone, old-style telephone,
on the wall, behind all of usand it's ringing.
Speaker 4 (22:26):
Like think Mary
Poppins old school, yes you know
, with the one you have to holdyour ear and you speak in the
other one.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
So, anyways, it
starts ringing, lighting up, and
I turned and looked at the guysand I'm like I think you're
supposed to answer that, and shekind of gave us the nod like
yeah, you are.
So then Patrick.
A nod like yeah, you are.
So then.
Um, patrick answered it andthen, not just in his ear, to
where he could hear, but over, like the intercom, the voice
(22:51):
came and said what instructionsto do follow this ball.
It was like a croquet ball on atrack and it went down the
stairs.
Uh, anyways, the whole theme toit.
We go downstairs.
The ball was at the bottomthere.
There were people there togreet us.
There's a whole theme with allof them, and they were all
different.
Speaker 4 (23:08):
It was pretty cool.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
We didn't get to all
of them.
I think that would be a funchecklist to possibly check off
one day.
Speaker 5 (23:18):
My favorite was the
mail room.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
The mail room was
very cool.
Speaker 5 (23:22):
It was like a Mr
Fogg's, but different you order
certain drinks on the menu andthey put them inside of a little
mail tube, kind of like at thebank.
Speaker 4 (23:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (23:31):
You stick your cash
or whatever in it, get sucked up
the tube while you order thedrink, and then they have tubes
going all over the room and then, whenever yours is ready, you
get to see it push through thetubes to a dropping point where
you had to go pick it up.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
Yeah, that was very
cool.
Speaker 5 (23:49):
And then they should
tell you like you had to guess
what number it was.
Speaker 4 (23:52):
You had to guess what
station to go to.
That was a lot of fun.
It was pretty cool.
The one that I really liked themost was the one that actually
Eric and I did ourselves.
So we went to one that was aold underground tube station, so
it used to be a subway stationand it actually was a bomb
(24:17):
shelter or bomb raid station orwhatever, so you could go down
there and be safe Protectionarea.
Yeah, so when the Germans wereflying over and you had to go
somewhere, this was one of thestations they all went to the
tube.
This was one of the stationsyou would go to.
Now it's too small, so theywent ahead and made it shut it
(24:38):
down several years ago as theywere modernizing the tube.
Speaker 3 (24:41):
When.
Speaker 4 (24:41):
I say several, I mean
in the 50s.
So the company bought it andthey converted it into a um, a
tavern and pub.
And you walk down there.
It's got the old subway tile,it's got all the london
underground stuff, the big signs, the it's all period related to
.
So it's like um for the wareffort.
(25:04):
Don't waste time on lipstick inhigh hills.
You can't run in high hills ifyou need to seek shelter.
I mean things like that.
Speaker 3 (25:13):
That's the way they
used to advertise it is.
Speaker 4 (25:15):
It's the old-timey,
like you need to be safe.
So here's how we do it to besafe.
So it was really cool to seeall that.
And they had a lady in therethat was playing piano and
singing and what she would do isshe was taking all modern songs
or in old songs and thenchanging them into like ragtime
or whatever that old 1940s, 30s,40s and playing it, and it was
(25:37):
just she had the hair, themakeup.
She played the part, completelyAbsolutely.
Speaker 5 (25:42):
She was Almost wanted
to get a picture with her, but
that would have been weird, Iknow right.
Speaker 4 (25:45):
She'd have done it
for some cash, but it was a
really great experience.
And if you saw, on Facebook, Ithink I posted a picture of me
drinking something out of QueenElizabeth's head.
That's where that was taken at.
But to bring the cup over here,I ordered the Elizabeth.
It's Queen Elizabeth's bust,but it's a cup and you drink
(26:11):
your drink out of it.
It was so weird, but it wasdelicious.
So the menu was an oldnewspaper from the 1940s.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
Oh fun.
Speaker 4 (26:22):
I love they just
really themed it up perfect.
Speaker 3 (26:25):
It's in good detail
from the 1940s.
Speaker 4 (26:26):
You know, it's just I
love they just really themed it
up.
Perfect.
There's a whole section thatwas actually a subway car and
you could go in the subway carand have your food in there or
your drinks in there and stuff.
So I mean it's oh my gosh.
And let's not forget thepeppers.
Speaker 3 (26:40):
Oh, those were good.
Speaker 4 (26:41):
Yeah, those were good
oh they were like Melissa
you're not going to tell me onthis.
They were like marinated.
I don't know what kind of redpepper that's called.
Speaker 3 (26:47):
They're like a cherry
bomb pepper.
I know there's a special namefor them, but they're like the
red peppercini round peppers.
Speaker 4 (26:56):
About an inch and a
half diameter.
Speaker 3 (26:57):
Yeah, they're not
super spicy.
They come in red, and I've seengreen before.
You could probably get them ina jar at the grocery store.
They're marinated and thenthese were stuffed with like a
whipped feta.
Speaker 4 (27:08):
Oh.
Speaker 3 (27:10):
So they were kind of
a tangy oily marinade with that
feta in the middle and all theFogs served them.
Mr Fogs, they all had them ontheir menu.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
I'm sure it was olive
oil with whatever spices or
whatever they wanted to use.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
So it was pickled,
the pepper was pickled, and then
they stuff it with the feta, and then they all go in big jars
covered in an oil of some sort.
Speaker 4 (27:34):
And they never served
it the same way.
Speaker 3 (27:36):
No.
Speaker 4 (27:37):
Each place we went
served it in a different shape,
different type of glass,different presentation.
You may get a plate of them, you may get a bowl of them, you
may get a hollowed out Coca-Colacan.
They were always different, nomatter how you ordered them, and
the quantity varied too.
So sometimes you would get four, which worked out great because
(27:57):
that's one a person.
Sometimes you'd get 12.
And it's like all right, butthey were all the exact same
price, so it was very confusing.
Speaker 3 (28:04):
It was but they were
good.
Speaker 4 (28:07):
I look forward to
when we do go back at some point
in a few years.
They had a gin bar, which Ihate.
Gin I'm not a gin fan at all,but I have had a few gin
cocktails that are really, really good and I have a feeling
they are the kind of peoplethat would do one well.
(28:27):
Yeah, so they have a gin bar.
They had a botanical garden barthat we discovered it and then
it was closed like the next twodays.
So we weren't able to go to it,unfortunately.
So I'd love to go there.
I think Eric would probablyreally enjoy that one as well.
Those are the two that standout in my head of like I can't
(28:49):
wait to go to.
Yeah, but.
Speaker 3 (28:53):
It was a great summer
.
It was a great summer.
Speaker 4 (28:56):
And it was nice to
get away from the heat for a
little bit.
For sure, I did think it wasfunny in Paris when they were
talking about how hot it was.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
I thought it was hot
For them.
It was hot, it was hot but itwasn't what we just had in
Columbus.
Speaker 4 (29:10):
Columbus had a heat
wave this summer.
That was brutal.
Speaker 1 (29:14):
Yeah, Paris was going
to be like 85 degrees one day.
Speaker 4 (29:17):
Yeah, and we're like
well, the heat index in Columbus
was 160 the other day.
Speaker 1 (29:23):
Sweet Thanks for the
cool weather, Paris.
Speaker 4 (29:26):
No, it was a great
time.
I enjoyed it a lot.
I look forward to theopportunity to go back at some
point.
Speaker 3 (29:32):
What did you two do
Not together?
But zucchini bread, Did you?
Speaker 1 (29:36):
do something, maybe
we did do something together.
Speaker 2 (29:38):
Well, let's hear it.
Speaker 1 (29:38):
Yeah, all right Story
time.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
Jerry's like was.
Speaker 3 (29:44):
I present Jerry's
like was I present Jerry's.
Speaker 4 (29:46):
Like I thought we
agreed not to talk about that.
Speaker 2 (29:50):
Annie and I just hung
out.
You know, enjoyed work andthat's about it.
Speaker 5 (29:59):
House parties.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
No no.
Speaker 5 (30:02):
No.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
Annie may have had a
few people over.
You'd have to talk to her aboutthat.
Speaker 4 (30:10):
Well, we noticed the
ring.
The ring camera system wasturned off.
So if you would like to explain, I know you're finishing summer
.
Speaker 3 (30:20):
With a camping trip.
Yes, I'm going to be goingcamping next weekend.
Speaker 2 (30:24):
Labor.
Speaker 5 (30:24):
Day weekend.
Oh, where are you going?
Jackson Lake With a campingtrip yes, You're pretty excited
about that.
Speaker 3 (30:26):
I'm going camping
next weekend.
What?
Speaker 2 (30:27):
Weekend after no,
next weekend.
Labor Day weekend Labor Dayweekend.
Speaker 3 (30:29):
Oh, where are you
going Yep Jackson Lake?
It's in Wyoming South.
Speaker 4 (30:32):
I was just about to
say is that Wyoming yeah?
Speaker 3 (30:35):
I don't know where
it's at.
Speaker 4 (30:37):
Where is it?
Speaker 2 (30:37):
No it's south of.
Speaker 4 (30:39):
South of here about
an hour and a half.
Yeah, okay, and your friendsare just by yourself.
Speaker 2 (30:45):
Yep, I'm going with
some friends.
Speaker 4 (30:48):
Cool Tent camping.
Speaker 2 (30:50):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (30:52):
Are you bringing a?
Speaker 2 (30:53):
cot no, Okay, she has
.
Like the mattresses, like airmattress yeah.
Yeah, and sleeping bags.
Speaker 4 (31:03):
We used Dad and I as
a kid.
We went camping a lot.
It was an affordable way to seethe country you know, and a
tent especially like it's dirtcheap.
So we would do primitive camping.
We would occasionally bougie itup with a spot that had, you
know, like electricity and water, but usually we wouldn't.
We'd get the $14 a night, $9 anight, basic, basic, and those
(31:28):
were always my favorite.
I loved the primitive stuff.
Now, that being said, I do needto disclose.
We had a cabin tent and we hada two-room cabin tent and we had
figured out a way to put a tarpover the tent in such a way
that we actually built a porchfor it and it was kind of chalet
(31:51):
style with a steep-pitched roofand that was our place to sit.
If it rained, we would alwaysbuild a huge campfire, which
y'all know me, me and fire.
That checks out specialrelationship, yes, but uh, we,
we brought cots with, uh, bigthick mattresses and stuff on it
(32:12):
, like we just there was, likewe had a primitive camping spot
in the sense that we didn't haverunning water or electricity
right, that's where everythingelse was a glamp everything else
was a glamp.
We didn't have air conditioning,uh, but we always, like, stayed
in a place where it was climatecontrolled, so at night it was
cool, during the day it'd be hot, but you, you don't.
When you're out there doingstuff, you don't really care.
(32:32):
Right, like if you're hikingit's gonna be hot.
So, um, no, that was always.
I love primitive camping.
I loved tent camping.
With that.
Now I had friends of mine thatwere like, oh no, we bring a
sleeping bag and that's it.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
And I'm like, hmm,
yeah, I don't know why anyone
would go that primitive, but wewill have a fire pit, not a
grill, so I'm kind of excitedabout that.
Speaker 4 (32:55):
Going to bring some
hot dogs on a stick.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
Hot dogs?
Speaker 4 (32:58):
S'mores Probably, I
really want to do the bananas
and chocolate marshmallows.
Speaker 2 (33:06):
I'm sorry, what
Bananas.
Speaker 4 (33:07):
Well, yes, I know
what that is.
Do you grill them over the fire?
Stop it, jerry.
Have you heard of such?
No, sounds good.
It sounds really good, doesn'tit?
You kind of caramelize theoutside of the banana a little
bit.
Speaker 3 (33:20):
Do you sprinkle your
banana with sugar before you put
?
Speaker 2 (33:22):
it over.
Speaker 4 (33:23):
Like a banana brulee.
Speaker 2 (33:26):
I mean it's probably
quick at that fancy.
Do you come out there?
Speaker 4 (33:28):
with a torch, so
you're just like a creme brulee
torch.
Speaker 2 (33:32):
Right, yeah, the fire
didn't do a good enough job.
Just in the aluminum foil youdo your banana and chocolates
marshmallows.
Close it up, Set it on the fire.
Speaker 4 (33:43):
Let marshmallows
Close it up, set it on the fire
and let it melt a little bit.
Speaker 2 (33:45):
So it almost makes a
pudding, probably.
It's been a while, since I'vedone it, I haven't been camping
for a little bit.
I'm going to have to Google itto make sure, because I'm sure
there's something else in there.
Speaker 3 (33:55):
I just remember they
were really good.
You could probably crumble up acookie to get a little crunch
in it.
Can you imagine like an OreoGraham Crumble up cookie to get
a little crunch in it?
Can you imagine like an OreoGraham cracker.
Speaker 5 (34:03):
I was thinking Oreo.
Speaker 4 (34:04):
Because Oreos and
bananas works.
Speaker 5 (34:06):
It does.
Speaker 2 (34:08):
It does work, oh that
sounds really good.
I haven't gone shopping yet.
Damn it, darn it.
What is with the profanity?
Speaker 4 (34:19):
Or get some red
velvet cake, let it dry out a
little bit and then crumble itover the oh hey, now Can you
tell we haven't had dinner.
Speaker 2 (34:30):
I'll have to make
some of that before we go then.
Speaker 4 (34:33):
So that was part of
our bougie-ness.
We traveled with a propanegrill and a propane stove, and
so if we were making anything,I'd never cook over a fire like
that.
I wish we would have.
We never did.
Speaker 2 (34:51):
We'll see how it goes
.
Like I said, it's been a whilesince I've been camping.
Speaker 3 (34:56):
I'm excited for you.
Speaker 2 (34:57):
I feel like you'll do
good, jerry, what did you and?
Speaker 3 (34:58):
Don do I went on
vacation to?
Yeah, I feel like you'll dogood, jerry, what did you and
Don do I want pictures?
Speaker 6 (35:05):
I went on vacation to
see my mom, as well as spend
time with my best friend, fun,and for his birthday, and Don
went on his own little minivacation to his family.
So separate vacations, that'sthe way to go.
Speaker 3 (35:22):
Which directions did
you all go?
Speaker 6 (35:24):
I went south and he
went north.
Speaker 3 (35:28):
Did you have fun?
Oh, it was great Good it wasawesome.
Speaker 6 (35:32):
Talking about heat
wave.
We were in Savannah, georgiaand the actual temperature was
like 107, 106.
Was this July or August July?
Speaker 4 (35:42):
Mid-July, but you did
the ghost tour in Savannah,
right, yeah, we did.
Speaker 6 (35:46):
It was fun, got to
see a lot of landmarks.
Speaker 4 (35:50):
Where did y'all stay?
At a hotel or Airbnb?
It was an Airbnb.
Speaker 6 (35:54):
So one of our friends
that went with us her brother
owns the place, so he gave us areally, really good deal for
four days.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
Nice.
Speaker 6 (36:01):
Yeah, so we stayed
there.
It was like a two-bedroom,two-bath Airbnb Nice.
I didn't know that it was rightabove a bar.
Speaker 4 (36:11):
Oh man.
Speaker 5 (36:11):
Oh.
Speaker 6 (36:12):
Yeah, so I get there
and everything's quiet.
But about I guess it was like 6, 7 o'clock, music starts and
you hear thump, thump, thump, thump, yep, seven o'clock music
starts and you hear don't, don't, don't, don't.
It goes to like 3 am and but wewere all partying anyway.
Speaker 4 (36:26):
so this is fine, I I
obviously I love a good bar and
I certainly have had some funexperiences there.
I do believe you know we havetalked about alcohol quite a bit
on the show.
I do believe you should drinkin moderation if you're going to
drink at all, and certainlyknow your limits and don't drive
after you drink.
But the idea of having anAirbnb or a hotel room over a
(36:46):
bar kill me.
Speaker 2 (36:48):
Right when you're
done, you want to be done, right
oh?
Speaker 4 (36:51):
yeah, because I want,
like, on my time.
I believe 10 pm is quiet time,like I don't want anything after
that.
You know what I mean.
Even when we did our Airbnb outin Oregon you know that was
kind of our rule too was 10 pm.
We were still hanging outoutside the pool because it was
so hot.
Speaker 3 (37:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (37:12):
So we were outside
the pool but like at 10 pm on
the dot when the cuckoo went off, we were just like that's it.
So we can still splash, but wehave to use our inside voices,
yeah, you know.
So I can't imagine being on topof a bar until that late at
night.
Speaker 6 (37:34):
It wasn't that bad
because, like I said, we were
all partying and we were outlate and everything ourselves.
So I mean, even whenever we gothome, I mean you know, it would
be like midnight or somethingcoming back.
Speaker 4 (37:46):
And you'd hear the
music.
Speaker 6 (37:47):
But I'd be so
exhausted that I was out.
Yeah, and it bothered me.
It's been a while since youhung out with, uh, your friends
down there.
How long has it been?
Well, his birthday's in Julyand usually we do the expo, expo
, oh, that's right, so I neverget to go.
I'm always like, sorry, I can'tgo, I've got a film or do
something, and so this was theone year that we didn't do it.
So I planned this back inFebruary Like, okay, I'm going
to go.
That's what we did.
We hung out down there, didshopping, walked around all
(38:10):
Savannah and great places to eat.
Speaker 2 (38:15):
Were there any of the
Midnight in the Garden of Good
and Evil stuff that you saw?
Speaker 6 (38:19):
Yep on the ghost tour
.
We did that.
We actually seen the house.
Oh, that's exciting.
What?
Speaker 4 (38:24):
are you talking about
?
Hold on, okay, I've been toSavannah and I did a ghost tour.
What are you talking about?
The Midnight of Garden of Good?
Speaker 2 (38:30):
and Evil.
What Midnight in the Garden ofGood and Evil.
It's a book.
Speaker 6 (38:35):
And they did a movie
Is this by?
Speaker 4 (38:36):
Agatha.
Speaker 6 (38:37):
Oh no.
This was just based on a truestory in the 90s, Late 80s early
90s 1990s.
Yes.
Speaker 4 (38:48):
I know nothing about
this, do you?
Speaker 2 (38:50):
You guys have not.
That's when people say you know, spill the tea.
That's the first time I'veheard it.
Speaker 4 (38:57):
I just know the
Golden Girls, the Girl Scouts,
they got started there rightScouts, they got started there.
Right, the Girl Scouts gotstarted there.
I'm not sure.
Speaker 2 (39:07):
I should know that,
because I was a Girl Scout.
I don't know, you have to trustme.
Speaker 4 (39:11):
Scouts honor.
Speaker 2 (39:14):
On my honor.
I will try.
Speaker 4 (39:16):
Well, it sounds like
you all had a great time.
I saw your pictures Again.
I really do.
I've only been to Savannah onceand I had such a good time.
I really do want to go back andspend some more time there when
I'm not, you know, having toattend meetings and all that
stuff.
So when I was down there, I wasdown there for the Panther
Fleet Airmen meeting.
I think we talked about this onthe show last time or last year
, but no, I I saw all yourpictures and I was just seething
(39:41):
with jealousy.
Speaker 6 (39:43):
It's a lot of history
in Savannah.
Yeah, it's very rich.
Speaker 4 (39:48):
Yes, it really is,
and it's beautiful with the
parks.
Oh yeah, all the squares.
Speaker 1 (39:54):
All the squares.
I had no idea all that wasthere.
Speaker 4 (39:57):
And I spent a lot of
time in New Orleans so I'm used
to old architecture and all thatstuff, but man.
Speaker 6 (40:05):
The main square where
they filmed Forrest Gump.
Speaker 4 (40:09):
They yes.
Speaker 6 (40:09):
I got pictures of
sitting on the bench and
everything.
Speaker 4 (40:12):
They.
That whole area just takes thecake for pretty.
I mean, as much as I love NewOrleans and I'm a huge New
Orleans fan If I had to chooseNew Orleans or Savannah, I'm
going to New Orleans, but whenit comes to just pure pretty,
savannah wins.
Yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 3 (40:25):
Their botanicals are
on point.
Speaker 4 (40:27):
They really are.
They really are and the peopleare nice.
It's charming, it's the wholepackage.
They just don't have theseafood.
Speaker 3 (40:36):
Sure, they do, they
don't have the Cajun seafood.
Speaker 4 (40:37):
They have Atlantic
seafood.
Speaker 3 (40:40):
Okay, they don't do
the Caj.
Okay, you're not that far fromlow country.
Speaker 1 (40:44):
in South Carolina you
know the Geechee country.
They do a lot of seafood upthere.
Speaker 4 (40:49):
They do a lot of
boils and stuff, but they do
like.
I was just talking to Kellyabout this.
As a matter of fact, kelly, ifyou don't know, she's our fleet
coordinator for FedEx.
She's fleet manager for FedExside.
She does all the like.
They do the low country bowlsand all that stuff right.
And she talks about all the OldBay and all this stuff and I'm
(41:10):
like, no, yeah, zatarain's crabboil, mm-hmm, you know Tony
Sachery's like Louisiana hotsauce, crystal hot sauce, like
that's what I'm used to.
That's what I love.
Old Bay doesn't impress me.
Speaker 1 (41:26):
No, it just doesn't
impress me.
Speaker 4 (41:27):
But it's all the rage
in that side of this country.
Old Bay took over the wholeEast Coast.
I don't know how it happened, but Jacksonville, florida to
Maine, it's all Old Bay.
I don't understand it.
Even here in Columbus there's afew places.
I love a shrimp cocktail.
Y'all know this.
Speaker 1 (41:46):
How many times have I
gotten a shrimp cocktail with
y'all.
Speaker 4 (41:50):
I love that when you
get a shrimp cocktail in Mexico
it's in tomato sauce with even alittle bit of minced cilantro.
I don't mind it in a shrimpcocktail.
I love that when you get it inSouth Louisiana it's this big
Royal Reds.
I love you know, I'm just a bigfan of these.
And there's a couple placeshere in town where they do them
and they sprinkle Old Bay allover them and I'm like why did
(42:13):
you ruin the shrimp?
So, yeah, not a huge Old Bay fanmyself, but that's why I prefer
New Orleans.
The food in New Orleans is justit's second to none.
It is really good food.
Speaker 3 (42:29):
I agree there's
nothing healthy about it.
Speaker 5 (42:32):
No, there isn't.
Speaker 4 (42:33):
There's not a lot of
skinny Louisiana folk.
Eric's one of like ten, so cool.
Well, speaking of being inSavannah for the owner's meeting
, so cool.
Speaking of being in Savannahfor the owners meeting, it
wasn't a fleet owners meeting, but we did get invited down to
Georgia again for Elite Fleet.
So Elite Fleet is FedEx'scustom criticals way of
(42:56):
celebrating the top fleets andthere's a whole list of criteria
that you have to meet to do it.
So we got invited down and wegot to spend a few days there.
Um, we were able to.
Last year we were able to do it, and this year we're able to do
it as well.
We brought kelly and jimmy downwith us.
So, um, it's a chance to wherethey just it's like an award
ceremony thing for three daysand, um, a chance to relax and
(43:21):
and all the you know, thepresident of operations, the,
the VPs, all the managingdirectors, they're all there.
So get a chance to talk somebusiness on the side and they
have a little time throughoutthe schedule signed up for that.
But outside of that, it'sreally just about relaxation and
congratulating you on a jobwell done.
So we always appreciate thatit's a good feeling.
(43:43):
Jerry, you went a couple ofyears ago.
In our place, they roll the redcarpet out, do they not?
Speaker 6 (43:50):
They do.
Speaker 4 (43:51):
A lot of activities.
Yep, and it's just even whenthere's not a lot of activities,
or if there's an activity youjust don't want to do, there's
always sitting by the pool andthe pool is awesome.
It's an infinity pool and itoverlooks the lake, so you can
kind of like and it's.
I don't know if it's heated ornot, no, but it's never cold.
Speaker 6 (44:11):
It's always hot, it's
always hot.
Speaker 4 (44:13):
And it could be
because it's, you know, august,
yeah, you know, in Georgia, right, but it was a really good
experience, a really good timehanging out there.
I've been to it for a fewdifferent years.
We've done, and again, when wehaven't been able to, we always
send someone to our place.
But I certainly do appreciateFedEx for sending Eric and I and
a lot of us bring Kelly andJimmy out there as well, and
(44:35):
then we just did so.
This is the first time in sevenyears that we've lived in
Columbus Ohio.
It's the first time we sevenyears that we've lived in
columbus ohio.
It's the first time we've beenable to make the irish festival
and again when you look at me, Ishould, you should be thinking
I'm always going to the irishfestival, um, and I do love
(44:55):
celtic music, I love, uh, allthat stuff, and it's the first
year we made it actually.
Okay, first year I made it, youmade it.
Last year, right, eric?
Yes, and you, who'd you go?
Speaker 5 (45:04):
with uh.
Speaker 4 (45:05):
My mom and sister and
nephew were visiting us that
week okay and I decided to treatthem out to something local I
did something like I had to gopick a truck up or something,
right?
yes, because I was with y'all Iwas with y'all for the first
half of the week and then thesecond half of the week I had to
fly somewhere.
I think I went to Texas andpicked a truck up or something I
think you did.
(45:25):
That was when we were doing allthose trucks through Doley.
Yes, but I got to go this yearand I found out after the fact.
So apparently we had a fewteams in town that were at the
fair and I was unaware.
Teams in town that were at thefair and I was unaware and I
they had this really cute itjust sounds like I'm an
(45:48):
alcoholic.
Speaker 1 (45:49):
They had this really
cute pub.
Speaker 4 (45:51):
That was on a trailer
.
Yeah, that was pretty cool.
It was this adorable thing.
They said they could seat like20 people inside, I think 15.
I think 15 was safe 20 would becrowded, but it's a portable pub
.
Now they don't have a liquorlicense, so they don't provide
any liquor.
They don't provide any beer, but they do have nitrogen and
CO2 for you to do a beer tap,two different beer taps.
(46:14):
So if you want to do a Guinnesswhich takes nitro as opposed to
carbonation, you can.
I don't know, I don't drinkGuinness, so you rent it out and
they just bring it and set itup on your property.
They have these old barrelsthat used to have whiskey in
them but they don't anymore.
They set those up outside andthey have chairs.
(46:36):
They give you a bunch of pintglasses and all this stuff, so
you can do a party and have alittle cute pub there.
And it's set up British, it'seven green.
Speaker 3 (46:45):
It is.
It had air conditioning in it.
It had a faux fireplace on theone wall.
Speaker 4 (46:50):
Yes, and he said that
the fireplace and the air
conditioning both put out heat,so in wintertime you can still
have your party with that Wow.
They even provide a generatorso that you don't have to use
your electricity.
So if you're going somewherelike a park or something where
you have this, you don't have toworry about electricity.
It's pretty slick, it waspretty cool.
It's not super cheap, but italso wasn't crazy expensive
(47:13):
either.
Speaker 3 (47:13):
No, it was neat.
Speaker 4 (47:14):
And they were super
kind.
I don't know if you had achance to talk to them or not.
Speaker 1 (47:17):
They were super nice.
No, I didn't, but I heard theirconversation with others
because they were busy.
They seemed super kind.
They seemed like they liked tohave a party themselves.
They're willing to help putyour party on the beer garden
area outside.
It was pretty impressive.
Speaker 4 (47:34):
They support locals.
If you do, because they don'thave a liquor license, they
can't bring anything to you.
But if you do want to get somebeer or something to put in
there for your party, they canhook you up with the local
suppliers and also they havelocal bartenders on call.
So if you want to actually havea pay for a bartender to be
there, they can do that as well.
So I thought it was pretty coolthey have you know they put the
(47:56):
whole service together yes, andthen they're trying to support
their local uh friends all thatstuff.
So I think it's really cool.
So I took pictures of that andsent it to y'all because I was
like this is so cool.
And like three hours latery'all responded and you're like
yeah, we thought that was reallyneat and we walked by too and
I'm like I literally think Iwrote back.
Did you go inside?
Speaker 1 (48:17):
I think I wrote back
and said you're here, yeah, no,
I think you knew we were thereat that point, I knew that
Zucchini Bread was going to showup at some point, but I didn't
know y'all were coming at all,and then you ended up bailing.
Speaker 3 (48:31):
She did bail, so I
was.
I had a tryst.
We tag teamed in.
Speaker 4 (48:35):
Okay.
So I was completely like I didnot realize everything was going
on.
And then you said, yeah, we'rehere with these teams and I'm
like, oh well, we need to hookup.
And you're like they actuallyjust left, they had.
And I'm like, okay, I guessthey had loads to go run or
whatever and they wereresponsible.
None of them drank or anythinglike that.
No, they had some amazing foodthough.
Speaker 5 (48:55):
Oh my gosh, they had
some great food.
Speaker 3 (48:56):
Walking the food.
Yeah, oh my gosh, you couldtell it was good.
Speaker 4 (49:07):
And you could tell
what wasn't good.
Yeah, you could you could?
There was one place we werelooking at that was like a
burrito of macaroni and cheeseor something, I don't know Some
absurdness.
That just sounded wonderful,yeah.
And then we saw the line.
I'm like I don't want to getthis next Thursday, I want it
now, so we'll just skip overthis one.
And we ended up sharing some.
(49:30):
Oh, I ended up getting.
Oh, I'm so sorry, I ended upgetting a like a shepherd's pie,
but it was macaroni cheese onthe inside and it was like nine
different cheeses.
It was unbelievably delicious.
Wow, it was like nine differentcheeses.
It was unbelievably delicious.
It was so good, you know what Ireally enjoyed.
Speaker 1 (49:51):
We went to this one
place.
All the food was authenticIrish food.
Speaker 6 (49:56):
All of it.
Speaker 1 (49:57):
We went to the one
place that was the Irish
taqueria.
They had carne asada, they hadyes, corned beef.
They had corned beef, yes.
They had corned beef.
They also had al pastor, so Ididn't realize that those things
all started there in Ireland.
The best thing I had, though, was the Irish funnel cake.
Speaker 4 (50:21):
Well, it's all about
the Guinness marinade Right, the
Guinness batter for the funnelcake.
Well, it's all about theGuinness marinade Right, the
Guinness batter for the funnelcake You've heard of
beer-battered chicken, so it'sbeer-battered funnel cake, which
is just beer batter, right, just beer batter.
Speaker 1 (50:33):
Just beer batter.
It's really good.
I love a good funnel cake.
It was sprinkled with salt likea pretzel.
Speaker 4 (50:40):
Nice Came with some
cheese dipping sauce, beer,
cheese Beer cheese.
Speaker 1 (50:44):
I thought it Nice
Came with some cheese.
Speaker 2 (50:45):
dipping sauce, beer
cheese.
Speaker 4 (50:46):
Another Irish
specialty, I thought it was
weird, they made it with Corona.
I liked the.
Did you see the Irish falafel?
Speaker 1 (50:55):
I did not see the
Irish falafel they had.
Speaker 4 (50:57):
Irish falafel.
They had Irish chicken shawarmaand Irish hero.
Speaker 1 (51:02):
They also had Irish
bourbon chicken.
Okay, really they did.
I saw it Irish bourbon chicken.
Speaker 4 (51:12):
I love all the.
They had these huge, giganticbooths that were set up.
They were just all shopping.
Speaker 2 (51:21):
When I say huge, I
mean they were like massive.
Speaker 1 (51:24):
They were like four
20 by 20 tents set up together
as shopping, and then insidethey had the smaller.
If you imagine that they hadthe 10 by 10 tents inside this
massive tent?
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (51:41):
The whole thing was
probably 120 foot by 80.
Yeah probably it was massive.
Yeah, it was Any shoppingcubicle was like 6x6 or 8x8.
Speaker 1 (51:51):
No, they were like
10x10, the shopping cubicles.
Speaker 4 (51:54):
I found only Irish.
The shop was only Irish, and soat the only Irish place I took
a picture of the proudly made inScotland purses and kilts and
stuff, and I'm like okay, onlyIrish.
Speaker 1 (52:14):
The other thing they
had at the Irish herstle too,
was they had the games.
Speaker 5 (52:19):
That was fun, like
the Highland games.
Speaker 2 (52:23):
Yeah, but they
weren't Highland because it's
not.
Speaker 1 (52:24):
Scotland but that
kind of thing where you're doing
the strong man stuff and strongwoman stuff.
They had that them doing theirthing too different age groups.
It was really cool to watchthat.
That was fun it really.
Speaker 4 (52:36):
I know it's called
the Irish Festival.
It really felt more like aCeltic Festival.
If you've ever been so like.
Back when I was in SouthLouisiana I used to run sound
for the Celtic Festival everyyear.
So much fun.
I miss that one.
I got to work with some greatbands the Blaggards look them up
online and they but it wasCeltic Festival, so Scotch Irish
, wales, like we just All of itand it was.
(53:00):
It was so much fun.
This felt so much like that.
As a matter of fact, on Saturdaynight, the main band that
closed out the show at the rockand roll tent.
They were stinking good,weren't they?
Eric Very, they had anotherperson, Allie the Piper, who I
think is pretty famous.
She was.
(53:22):
I think it's Allie the Piper, Ithink it is.
She was at.
I think it's Allie the Piper.
I think it is, she was at asmaller stage it's still a big
stage but smaller and I know shedoes really great stuff and a
lot of people love her.
So my sister went over thereand saw her and I really was in
the mood.
I'm like I want to do an Irishrock band because I love Irish
(53:44):
rock music.
It's fun to me.
It's just something I'veenjoyed when I did the Celtic
Festival.
Speaker 1 (53:49):
I always did that.
Are you going to tell me thatU2 was there?
Close?
Speaker 4 (53:54):
U3?
Ub40.
Speaker 1 (53:57):
Oh, okay.
Speaker 4 (53:59):
So we go and we do
the Irish the rock band.
We actually call the last, maybe 20 minutes of the act
before them.
They were really good.
So we're all excited for thisIrish Rock Band that's going to
just close the night out, youknow, if it's closed or it's
going to be the good one and Iwill say they were great, like
(54:20):
really really good, and theywere also from Scotland.
Speaker 3 (54:24):
No, and it was also
from Scotland.
Speaker 4 (54:27):
No, and it was like
huh.
But those bands do all kinds ofweird fusions.
So imagine rock band borderingpunk rock.
I mean like real rock, and alsotwo bagpipes, oh wow.
Speaker 2 (54:41):
Nice.
Speaker 5 (54:42):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (54:43):
I love the sound of
bagpipes.
Oh wow, nice, wow, I love thesound of bagpipes.
Speaker 5 (54:47):
There was one part of
the night they had competing
bagpipes.
Yes, they were the only ones onstage and they were playing to
each other.
Speaker 4 (54:54):
They did.
Yeah, the whole band got quietor stepped off stage.
Speaker 5 (55:00):
The two bagpipers
came up and it was very.
Speaker 3 (55:01):
As a matter of fact,
I got a recording of that Vince
and I were leaving when you guysmoved over to there and the
crowd was going crazy.
Speaker 1 (55:07):
They were yeah, that
crowd was loud.
Speaker 4 (55:10):
So, eric, you said
that crowd, so I've only been
there once, you've been theretwice.
So they have this huge tent andinside the tent there's
probably room for 2,000 peopleand then the bleed over is a
field, multiple football fieldsized fields.
It was packed, I mean likepacked.
(55:33):
I mean like packed.
Speaker 3 (55:36):
There could have been
15,000 20,000 people there.
Speaker 5 (55:38):
It wouldn't surprise
me.
Speaker 4 (55:39):
If.
Speaker 5 (55:39):
I left the tent to go
get something to eat or drink
or use the restroom.
I had trouble getting acrossthe field because there were so
many people camping out, out.
Speaker 4 (55:46):
It was like a garth
brooks outdoor concert it was
insane.
Speaker 2 (55:49):
The weather was
beautiful too in the past the
weather hasn't been that greateither yeah so I mean this year
the weather was beautiful and Ithink everybody's just ready to
get out and enjoy in the pastthey've closed early or canceled
days because of thunderstorms.
Speaker 1 (56:03):
It's a huge city park
and it just gets bad when the
weather gets that bad.
We're in the middle of ourthunderstorm season here too, so
this year, to how the weatherwe had was just amazing.
Speaker 3 (56:15):
And it was a cooler
dip in the thermometer that
weekend.
Speaker 4 (56:18):
It wasn't the flaming
hot it wasn't Cheetos.
It was a lot of fun.
I had such a blast.
I mean, it was one of thosethings where I'm like why have I
not made a point to make thisLike?
This is something I want to doevery year.
Speaker 3 (56:34):
It was fun.
Speaker 1 (56:35):
I enjoyed it so much,
I think the last couple years
that we've been in town.
You guys haven't been in townthe weekend, except for last
year when Eric was here with hisfamily and you had to get to
that truck.
But in previous years you guyshaven't been in town during that
weekend.
Speaker 4 (56:48):
No, certainly going
forward.
I believe it'll be a point toMike.
Speaker 5 (56:52):
We're going at least
a day, I have it marked on my
calendar, all ready for nextyear and it's a three-day event
but we'll make sure we at leasthit one day.
Speaker 4 (57:02):
I did notice too on
the schedule a lot of the
players, because it's verymusic-centric A lot of the and
dancing.
And dancing.
A lot of the players aredancers and stuff.
They A lot of them did allthree days Friday, saturday and
Sunday.
Speaker 1 (57:16):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (57:16):
So you know, except
for, like, the very last night,
or the very last closer of thenight for each thing Right, or
the very last closer of, thenight for each thing.
Speaker 1 (57:24):
Right, that was a
one-time only, it was a
headliner kind of deal sure, buteverybody else, like Allie the
Piper, she did all three days.
Speaker 3 (57:29):
Right.
Speaker 4 (57:29):
So you get to see
most of that.
Speaker 1 (57:32):
Well, I think that
makes sense too, because a lot
of those folks are actuallycoming in from Ireland.
Yes, you know, they're notnecessarily touring the United
States.
They're coming in from Irelandfor this festival.
Yeah, so make the best of it.
Be there the whole three days.
Speaker 4 (57:47):
And they have all
kinds of stuff.
The first stage we stopped atwas probably 200 people, not
much, and there was some peopleplaying the whistle, the flute,
the mandolin thing.
Speaker 5 (58:00):
I don't know.
Yeah, the mandolin.
I thought this was harp.
Speaker 4 (58:04):
There was a person
playing harp and someone playing
kick drum.
It was great.
We sat there for a couple hours.
Not for a couple hours, we satthere for probably 30 minutes
just listening and enjoying it.
Then we switched over toanother stage that was a little
more rocking.
It had maybe 500 people, but Iwouldn't call it rock music.
It was folk Irish music, buthigh up tempo, yeah, sure, and
(58:29):
so they also had spoken word.
So if you wanted to go listento Irish stories, they had a
tent that was just doing that.
They had another tent that wasdoing and when I say tent, I
mean these are big canopies thatwas doing a sewing lesson.
We walked by and of course, youknow my sister.
Speaker 1 (58:44):
She was just like
they said Is that the one where
they were making yarn also?
Speaker 4 (58:48):
Yes.
That was a great booth and theywere like, well, you just take
your thread.
And my sister's head was likewhat?
Speaker 3 (58:56):
Like squirrel.
Speaker 4 (58:59):
So no, it was a lot
of fun.
Leather if you want to buyleather go to a freaking Irish
festival.
I had no idea they had moreleather vendors out there.
I guess maybe the only thingthat would be more
leather-centric would be like aRenaissance Fair, which is
coming up too.
It is, it is.
Speaker 2 (59:14):
We've not been there
either.
Speaker 4 (59:15):
I've never gone to a
Renaissance Festival.
Speaker 1 (59:17):
I went to one years
ago in LA.
Speaker 4 (59:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (59:22):
Well, we have always
called you the Renaissance Band,
yeah, but this one goes forlike what?
A month and a half here in Ohio.
Speaker 1 (59:25):
Well, that's how they
do the Renaissance Festival.
They end up on the weekends andthey go for a couple months.
Speaker 3 (59:29):
I like to do the one
here.
We should pick a good themedweekend and go.
Speaker 4 (59:33):
I agree.
Well, they do the Irish weekendat the Renaissance Festival, so
that'd be fun to go to, but allI know about the Renaissance
Festivals is like turkey legs.
Speaker 1 (59:46):
It's a big thing.
I need to pull out my kilt forthe Irish day.
Speaker 4 (59:50):
You do, I heard you
kilt it, I did kilt it.
It's been quite the summer.
It's not over yet it's not overyet.
We still have more to go.
We've got a camp trip ahead ofyou, eric and I, in late
September will be leaving.
We'll be out of the country fora week or so on a trip I'm
(01:00:13):
taking my dad on, so I'm excitedabout that.
Y'all have that thing, yep, inBardstown.
Speaker 6 (01:00:28):
Yeah, we do, yeah,
coming up, coming up.
And what do you have going on,jerry?
Speaker 4 (01:00:32):
I'm planning on a
couple things, but nothing
nailed down yet, nothing youwant to tell us about Nope, no
small tacks.
Speaker 3 (01:00:38):
You haven't nailed it
down.
Nope, no big ones either.
Maybe you need cement glue.
Speaker 4 (01:00:46):
He's like nothing big
.
We're building a house on alake, oh no.
Well, it is so good to be ableto hang out and be able to be
back in this group and chat withy'all for a little while.
I think we've been trying toget it started for the past
couple of weeks.
And things have been so crazythat it's like, yes, we're
(01:01:08):
definitely meeting tonight, andthen, a couple hours later, we
have to cancel because, fill inthe blank, yeah, even today.
Like y'all won't know this, because it's still going to drop
on the same day, but we're aday late.
We were supposed to record lastnight and that got scrapped, so
(01:01:28):
I'm glad we actually got backin here and got this recording
session done.
Speaker 3 (01:01:31):
Someone today on the
group posted yay therapy.
Speaker 4 (01:01:32):
Yes, I loved it.
I loved it.
I'm like, oh my gosh, it's sotrue.
It's so true.
I enjoy our time together somuch.
We actually last week it wassuper late in the week, like a
Thursday or Friday, and we allhung out together at the house
and out on the back porch andjust caught up because we've
(01:01:52):
been all running so far, likeall these different places and
the way we do our recordings ifwe don't get it recorded by
Wednesday, it cannot go up onSaturday.
So when we did this on Thursdayor Friday I don't remember what
it was it was too late, sothat's why we didn't do a
recording then.
Speaker 3 (01:02:08):
We just did a
get-together.
Speaker 4 (01:02:09):
But, we just did a
get-together, hangout and just
catch up, and I think everybodywas like, yeah, let's hang out
for about an hour, hour and ahalf it's.
You know, we're all tired andthree and a half it was a.
Speaker 1 (01:02:19):
Thursday night,
because we all had to be at work
Friday morning.
Speaker 3 (01:02:23):
It was nice to see
our fact checker.
I do miss him being in thepeanut gallery over there, mr
Don, and he's not bringingcookies to the green room
anymore, which is unacceptable.
No Granted we're all trying tobehave ourselves and watch our
(01:02:45):
weight, but still it'sunacceptable.
Speaker 6 (01:02:46):
He could bring
carrots.
It was just nice he could watchour weight, but still it's
unacceptable.
Speaker 2 (01:02:48):
He could bring
carrots.
It was just nice seeing himWatch our weight balloon.
It was nice.
Speaker 6 (01:02:51):
he never had a cake
Round is a shape, hey.
Speaker 2 (01:02:52):
I'm getting back
there again.
Speaker 6 (01:02:54):
I'm telling you I
just I woke up Sunday morning to
fresh cinnamon rolls.
So yeah, Nice.
Speaker 1 (01:03:01):
Well, we came home
last week.
We were gone for the weekend.
Speaker 4 (01:03:09):
Oh, yes, we came home
.
Speaker 5 (01:03:10):
Oh.
Speaker 1 (01:03:10):
I forgot about that.
We did forget about DCI.
Yeah, DCI.
We came home from DCI inIndianapolis to fresh-baked
zucchini bread and cherryturnovers.
Speaker 2 (01:03:20):
Yeah, that's what I
call them.
Speaker 1 (01:03:21):
Yeah, so it's like
it's not wake up Sunday morning
every day, but, yeah, when weleave, we come home and we've
got fresh break, something orother at the house and I have to
say, no, thank you, I was.
Speaker 3 (01:03:36):
I ate your fair share
of zucchini bread.
Thank you very much.
Speaker 4 (01:03:41):
That was one time I
was, because I love your
zucchini bread, so zucchinibread makes zucchini bread.
In case you didn't put thattogether.
And her zucchini bread isamazing.
It is so good.
And when I got the text we wereon our way home and I got the
text there's fresh zucchinibread here waiting on you.
I immediately thought, like Iam so glad y'all stopped at my
(01:04:02):
house and I don't have to go toyour house first.
Because I would have picked uptwo to four loaves, because he
did a little mini loaves and Iwould have eaten all of it and
then I would have cried the nextfew days from gaining.
Speaker 1 (01:04:16):
Because you ate it
all, because I ate it all.
Well, yeah, and just.
Speaker 4 (01:04:20):
But no, I was kind of
hoping one would show up at the
house, but it didn't.
So, anyways, it doesn't matter.
Speaker 2 (01:04:26):
Well, and next
weekend is also Zucchini Fest in
.
Speaker 4 (01:04:29):
Obetz.
Speaker 2 (01:04:31):
And I'm going camping
.
I didn't realize it was thesame weekend.
That's ironic, I know.
Speaker 1 (01:04:37):
I really wanted to go
to Zucchini Fest, any good
music down there or no?
Not from what I saw on the list.
Speaker 2 (01:04:41):
Usually they do
They've had some really big.
We've been to a couple goodacts.
Zucchini can be foundyear-round.
Is it like that, just not asgood.
I get that.
Speaker 4 (01:04:55):
Like when we go to
the Strawberry Festival in
Louisiana, which we don't govery often but we do Like
strawberries.
You really can't get thoseyear-round, can you?
Speaker 1 (01:05:03):
You can actually Can
you Hot house strawberries?
Yeah, you don't find them herelocally, Okay, but you'll find,
like California when I was outthere there was a farmer's
market I went to and they hadstrawberries year-round, but
they were actually they were ahot house out of just north of
San Diego, so does hot housemean like it was done in a
greenhouse.
In a greenhouse.
Speaker 5 (01:05:21):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 4 (01:05:22):
So we in Louisiana
known for the strawberries there
and they're the beststrawberries in the country.
I will stand behind that.
But it is a short season.
They're not making a ton ofthem and when they're gone,
they're gone Like that's it.
Then all of a sudden, for liketwo months you get all Louisiana
(01:05:44):
strawberries in all thesupermarkets and then the rest
of the time it's it.
Then all of a sudden, you know, for like two months you get all
Louisiana strawberries in allthe supermarkets and then the
rest of the time it's Florida orCalifornia.
Or Chile.
I think most of them came fromCalifornia.
I believe it, yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:05:57):
We need to go do the
Strawberry Festival because
there's a couple of rumdistillers in New Orleans.
And they're growing their owncane down there too.
Speaker 4 (01:06:08):
Yeah, so we grow
sugar down there they have a
decent lineup this weekend thisI don't know they're just names,
you don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:06:18):
Yeah, like north to
nashville's on Friday.
Speaker 1 (01:06:21):
Never heard of them.
No thanks.
Speaker 3 (01:06:22):
They're a local band.
So if they're local, it wouldbe south Cletus E, Judd Easton,
Corbin, Chris Cagle andShenandoah are on Saturday.
Speaker 4 (01:06:34):
Which, if you're a
country, person.
Speaker 3 (01:06:35):
You would know who
all those are.
Speaker 4 (01:06:36):
I don't like
Shenandoah, but Chris Cagle's
all right.
Speaker 3 (01:06:39):
I've seen him before
too.
Well, if you guys go pick me upsome zucchinis, and then Sunday
is Appalachian Outlaws, followed by Chris Young, who
I've seen him too, huh, country,it's country all the way around
.
Speaker 4 (01:06:52):
Yeah, it sounds very
country, but it was country,
last time it wasn't.
Speaker 1 (01:06:56):
Big and Rich.
Once here we went to Big andRich, and then the next year was
Boys to Men.
Speaker 3 (01:07:00):
Yeah, it was.
I told Zucchini Bread she wasgoing to miss out on trying
zucchini beer.
I know, I don't even know if wetried it that year.
Speaker 1 (01:07:08):
We didn't.
We went straight into the music.
Speaker 3 (01:07:10):
We did.
Speaker 1 (01:07:11):
That sounds terrible.
Speaker 2 (01:07:12):
It kind of.
Does I mean?
The only thing is if I can talkmy friend into like swinging by
a bat's on her way.
Speaker 4 (01:07:27):
But I think that I'm
not sure which direction it is.
