(00:00):
You've done the brain dumpexercise before you've written
everything down on paper.
You dumped all those swirlingthoughts out of your head, but
somehow you still feeloverwhelmed and scattered.
If your brain dump isn't workingand you're wondering why
everyone else seems to getrelief from this technique while
you're still drowning in mentalchaos, you are not alone.
Hi, I'm Cindy Gordon, aself-made entrepreneur, busy mom
(00:23):
and reality check method coachfor entrepreneurs.
I built and sold multipledigital businesses, and I've
discovered what most people skipare the crucial steps that make
the brain dumps actuallyeffective.
The dumping part is just thebeginning, and in the next five
minutes, I'm breaking down theexact system I use to turn
overwhelming brain dumps intoclear action plans.

This challenge surfacesrepeatedly with the
entrepreneurs in my program.
They tell me they've tried braindumps multiple times.
(01:07):
They write pages of tasks, ideas, worries, and projects.
But when they're done, they feeljust as overwhelmed as when they
started.
Sometimes they even feel moreoverwhelmed because now they can
just see how much is actually ontheir plate.
But here's what's happening.
You are doing the dumping part, but you're missing the
(01:28):
organizing and prioritizingparts that actually create the
clarity.
A brain dump without a systemfor what comes next is like
emptying your messy closet ontoyour bed.
You can see everything, but it'sstill a chaotic mess.
For entrepreneurs, this isespecially frustrating because
our brains never stop generatingnew ideas and new problems to
(01:50):
solve and new tasks to handle ifyou tend to think in multiple
directions at once, atraditional brain dump can
actually increase overwhelminstead of reducing it.
Understanding the why changeseverything about how you
approach brain dumps.
Your brain treats everything inits big list as equally
important and equally urgentuntil you tell it otherwise.
(02:13):
So even though you've writteneverything down, your mind is
still trying to hold onto andprocess all of it
simultaneously.
Plus, many entrepreneurs havewhat I call the never ending
brain syndrome.
You know the moment that youfinish your brain dump.
Three new tasks or ideas popinto your head.
It's literally never ending.
(02:33):
And without a system forcapturing and categorizing these
ongoing thoughts, you'reconstantly starting over.
You dump everything out, youfeel momentarily relieved, and
then immediately start worryingabout whether you've captured
everything correctly, whetheryou'll remember to do it all.
And how will you ever tacklesuch an enormous list?
(02:55):
Your brain dump becomes anothersource of stress instead of a
solution.
So here's how you can transformyour brain dump from an
overwhelming list into a clearaction plan.
The first thing you're going todo is the brain dump.
You're gonna set a timer for 10minutes.
Dump everything out.
Work tasks, personal errands, random ideas, things you're
(03:18):
worried about, projects youwanna start, but don't edit or
organize it while you'redumping.
Just get it all out.
So here's where most peoplefail.
They are not doing these steps.
Next, you're gonna realitycheck.
Each item by asking, is thisactually mine to do, or does it
need to happen in the next twoweeks?
Cross off anything that's notyour responsibility or not time
(03:42):
sensitive.
You'll be amazed at how much youcan eliminate just with this
simple filter.
Then you're gonna categorizewhat's left into three buckets.
The first bucket is a do now.
Urgent and important.
The next bucket is a schedulelater, so these are important,
but not quite urgent tasks.
And then the third bucket is asomeday maybe bucket.
(04:05):
So these are ideas and thingsthat would be nice to have in
our business.
This is where the magic happens.
Your brain can actually relaxbecause everything is designated
to a specific place and has apriority level.
So here's how to put this intopractice today.
When the resistance shows upwhen you're doing this, it's
(04:27):
usually in the form ofeverything feels urgent.
You keep telling yourself, but, but, but everything feels so
urgent.
You need to remind yourself thatwhen everything feels urgent,
nothing really is trust thecategorization process.
When your anxiety wants to puteverything in the do now pile,
(04:48):
build this into your routine bydoing a mini brain dump at the
end of each day.
Spend five minutes capturinganything new that came up, and
then quickly sort those itemsinto your three categories or
your three buckets.
This prevents the buildup thatmakes brain dumps feel so
overwhelming.
The biggest obstacle is usuallyperfectionism around capturing
(05:09):
everything perfectly.
But here's your reality.
Check, your brain dump doesn'tneed to be perfect or complete.
It just needs to be betterorganized than the chaos in your
head.
To maintain momentum, keep abrain dump parking lot.
This is a simple note on yourphone or a small notebook where
you can quickly capture newthoughts throughout the day.
(05:30):
This prevents the never endingcycle of starting over with
completely new brain dumps.
Here's what I want you toremember from today.
A brain dump that just dumpswithout organizing is like
taking everything out of yourpacked suitcase and spreading it
across your hotel room floor.
You can see everything, but youhaven't actually solved the
(05:52):
problem.
This systematic approach tobrain dumps is actually the
foundation of my overwhelm caresystem, and it's exactly what I
help entrepreneurs developthrough my Growth Collective
Mastermind.

Your action step for today is totry a 10 minute brain dump, then
spend five minutes categorizingeverything into do now or
schedule later.
(06:34):
Or someday maybe.
Notice how much lighter yourbrain feels when everything has
a clear category and priority.
Now go give your brain theorganization.
It's been craving.
And remember you've got this.
