Joseph Pellegrino (00:06):
So let's talk about how, during this pandemic,
a lot of businesses stoppedtheir marketing, they halted all
of their initiatives frommarketing. Because yes, a lot of
people are having a hard time.
And it's very, it's almost likepaycheck to paycheck at this
point for these businesses. Sohow can they even put any money
into marketing, we create anAlexa skill called content

(00:30):
ideas. So basically, if youcan't hire an agency, right now,
you should still be able to comeup with ideas, using our brains
for how to create content foryour industry. So if you're a
restaurant, or you're a lawfirm, or anyone really, or a lot
of a lot of people have gone toonline shopping. So if you just

(00:54):
created a brand new Shopify, andyou have your shop is live, you
could just literally say, Alexa, open content ideas, and she's
going to ask you what yourindustry is. And she's going to
give you ideas on what contentwill help you on social media.
And that's it, that's really,it's a very simple skill. And

(01:17):
it's designed so that businessowners, like yourselves, can
market yourself during thispandemic, you're going to have
some downtime. So this is theperfect time to get used to, to
this. And you know, don't worry,if you go, you know, obviously,
if business starts picking backup, and you don't have time to

(01:38):
keep up with all this stuff.
That's obviously that's adifferent discussion. That means
you can mark it again. And youwould most likely go out and
hire somebody or, you know, yourniece or your nephew. And you'll
have ideas now you'll have ideasso that you could post every
day. Do you think this Alexaskill is going to be able to
help businesses? Do you thinkthere are other means that they

(02:01):
should go about also, with orwithout an agency now,

Rick McDonald (02:05):
I think it can definitely help. It's something
every business owner should lookinto. The other thing business
owners need to think about, though, is if you're doing no
marketing today, you're alreadyon the path of becoming
irrelevant. And, andunfortunately, going out of
business, if you are doingmarketing, stopping that

(02:27):
marketing is then going to putyou on that path. So as bad as
times are as bad as times can bebusiness needs, businesses need
to consistently market or theyunfortunately, go down the path
of becoming irrelevant. Somarketing is super important to
a business. I mean, I believethis is a stat. We just had a

(02:49):
colleague mentioned to us aboutCoca Cola, right? Where if Coca
Cola stopped all theirmarketing, they lose about 40%
of their business. Just Justthink about

Joseph Pellegrino (02:58):
that. Yeah, I mean, a lot of people don't
realize that, you know, having, let's just take an example.
Actually, you're paying, you'repaying your cable bill, you're
not going to stop paying yourcable bill, you might take away
HBO, and stars, and Cinemaxbecause you don't need these
premiums right now. But you'renot going to stop paying your

(03:18):
cable bill because you alwaysneed that, to you know, people
need entertainment. So that'slike your electric bill, you're
like, you're gonna pay yourelectric bill, you need that
correct. People have to startthinking about marketing.
Marketing is not just oh, let melet me throw some money.

Rick McDonald (03:34):
And let me run an ad on Facebook is other things
you can email list marketing.

Joseph Pellegrino (03:39):
I mean, marketing is huge marketing is
your website. A lot of businessowners think that oh, you know,
let's just pause the website,you can't pause a website. It's,
it's impossible. I mean, that's,it's your, your, your, your
breathing.

Rick McDonald (03:55):
Everybody's in a similar boat. But, you know,
especially restaurants, liveevents, people in that type of
field are really hurting rightnow. So, unfortunately, you
know, they're, they're losing alot of business, but in order to
stay relevant, and when oncethis is all over, in order for

(04:15):
them to bounce back quickly, they need to do something in
terms of marketing. So you gotto think outside the box, you
got to be creative, you can'tjust stop and do nothing. So if
your budget might not be as bigas it would have been, you know,
when everything was normal, butyou still need to have some type
of budget to continue doing sometype of marketing. Absolutely.

(04:37):
Yeah,

Joseph Pellegrino (04:38):
I agree. 100% You know, even if, let's take
for example, I mean, you'reyou're a director, so filming,
if people want to film if theywant to film a storytelling
piece. Do they really have to goout and film a, you know, this
beautiful quality piece in orderto tell their story, right now

(05:01):
you don't have to, you couldfilm something on tick tock, we
just put out a video. And it wassupposed to be something, it was
just off the cuff. It was ahealthcare Heroes video. And I
mean, this thing blew up withina week, we got 150,000 views on
it. And we didn't I sweat it, wehad no clue this was going to
blow up, we just wanted to putsomething out, it was a 32nd

(05:24):
piece. And that was it. I mean,of course, the music has
something to do with that. Butthese platforms are allowing you
to put music in your videos. Imean, this is what tick tock is
all about tick tock reels. Ifyou want to put out a 15 second
piece on something, it's justsomething to tell your story.
Because if you're not tellingyour story, your customers who

(05:45):
can't spend that much time withyou anymore, are not going to
know your story. You need to beable to communicate with your
customers online. And if youweren't already doing that,
customers aren't going tomagically find you by continuing
not to do that. So it's, it's alot out there. And even if

(06:07):
you're not comfortable oncamera, start a blog, and tweet,
you have to do something to getthese customers to know what's
going on in your business.
Because if you're not going tostay relevant, why should a
customer give a shit about yourbrand? What's going to make them
want what's going to entice themto come visit you and pick up an
order or curbside. Anything thatyou're trying to promote? You

(06:30):
guys need to really think aboutall aspects of marketing, and
not just think of marketing asglitz and glamour and oh, yes,
social media likes, it's notabout that it's you got to take
away those vanity metrics. Andyou have to think about your
brand. If your brand is notgoing to be relevant, then
you're going to disappear. Andunfortunately, you know, that's

(06:51):
another that's another thingthat one of our colleagues was
telling us is, you know, 50% ofthe city is going to lose
restaurants. And this is this isnot a joke. This is This is life
or death. So marketing does havea cost. But just like anything
else, you need to think aboutwhat aspects of wireline

Rick McDonald (07:15):
a lot of people view the cost of marketing the
wrong way. Because I alsobelieve a lot of them might have
a bad taste in their mouth froma previous, you know, experience
they had or something where theyfelt like it didn't provide them
any value. But they need tounderstand if they market the
right way, you can think of itas a cost and expense. It's an

(07:37):
investment apps. So if youinvest in the right marketing
strategies, you have the rightpartner, that can help grow your
brand increase sales, that's aninvestment, you're gonna get a
return on that spend, it paysfor itself. So that's, that's,
that's a problem a lot ofbusiness owners have, they're
afraid to make that jump investin marketing, just they just

(07:58):
look at it as an expense ratherthan investment. Absolutely.

Joseph Pellegrino (08:03):
No, it's just like anything else. I mean, if
you didn't go out and buybitcoin back when it was, you're
missing out, because it's almost30,000 right now. So you have to
think of marketing like that. Ifyou're not going to put your
foot place your foot intosomething that sturdy, like a
Facebook, or an Instagram. Imean, these guys aren't going

(08:24):
away. It's you got to stopthinking that these guys are
going to Well, yeah, I'll put onFacebook right now. But you
know, tick tock is really bigtick tock is huge right now. And
it's only going to get bigger, but the organic reach is going
to decrease, then it's going tocost more. So start putting
stuff on tick tock, it's not aplatform. Bringing that video we

(08:46):
made back has helped us discoverthat tick tock is not a
children's platform. We got over500 comments from in this case,
our audience was nurses. Andthese women are not young. There
were men on there too. Andthey're not young. They're
they're 30, you know, their 30year old to 40 year old to there

(09:10):
was 50 and 60 year old peoplecommenting. So this is not a
1516 year old audience platformanymore. This is becoming real
life. And it's becoming a 15 to30 or 15 to 40 year old
platform. And it's only going tostart going that way. Because
once these kids are on there, the parents are going to be on

(09:32):
there and the older sisters andthe siblings. So you have to
think about that. So I think Ithink that about wraps this up.
This was supposed to be a quickjust a quick note to all
business owners out there. 2020one's going to be a fresh start.
Might not be until quarter twoquarter three things are picking
up again with this vaccinethat's out. You know, there's a

(09:54):
lot of people who don't want totake it. I'm one of them. I
mean, I'm I'm not gonna lie.
It's It's something you got tothink about, you don't know
what's going to happen. So, youknow, once, society starts
getting back to normal, and yourbusiness goes back to normal,
and you want to pick upmarketing further, that's
something you would think about.

(10:15):
But for now, think about whatyou can do as a business owner,
think about what what would makeyou think about life or death
for your business and socialmedia is the key to that. It's
communication with yourcustomers. So all right, see you
guys next time. And if you haveany questions, we're gonna leave

we'll help you. We'll help youcome up with decisions and see
what we can do.
