31. Prioritizing Mental Wellness in Medicine with Dr. Jenny Shao

Today, we're privileged to have Dr. Jenny Shao joining us. Dr. Shao's professional journey is a testament to going against the grain for a higher good, after making the difficult decision to walk away from traditional medicine. Dr. Shao began her career at Columbia where she obtained her undergraduate degree which ultimately led her to obtaining her medical education at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. A unique 5-year program that offered a full ride scholarship. After graduating, she began work as a surgical resident at Mount Sinai where she completed her intern year. It was during this time as a surgical intern that she began to question the conventional path of medicine, realizing that her passion for making a difference wasn't aligning with the daily grind she experienced. Driven by a desire to effect change on a broader scale, Dr. Shao made the decision to step away from clinical practice and residency training as a whole. She looked towards a higher goal of building a tool to address the rising mental health crisis in America. This tool is now termed “Robin Health” which is an AI-assisted mental health counselor designed to address point of care mental health challenges while minimizing service cost. By introducing this revolutionary technology, Robin Health aims to make mental health resources more accessible to the population and offer a more personalized counseling experience.
