Show Notes:

Thank you so much for spending your time with us today on the podcast, and thank you Urmi, for sharing your story with us today. I really appreciate your openness and honesty.

And here are my top 10 take aways – in no particular order:

  1. Sometimes we don’t need to know the exact option – just knowing she takes a humanistic approach to life helped Urmi narrow down her choice, but she knew she wanted to study a branch of medicine, she just didn’t know which one.
  2. Leadership is innate, and it shows up in the most interesting places – like when she became the leader of the Blue House.
  3. When it comes to career development, a healthy dose of realism is important. Like knowing one path is not going to work for you, being open to learning about other paths who will help you achieve your goals and live by your values in life.
  4. It’s important to know your strengths, but also know how much and where you can leverage them.
  5. Throughout her life, Urmi has always made it her goal to bring people along with her. Just like her mother did when she was the only girl at her college.
  6. Always go back to your values and what’s important to you – like work/life balance.
  7. There are differences between physio and occupational therapists, and I have a feeling that Urmi’s description of occupational therapy may motivate some listeners to learn more about it as a possible career choice.
  8. Urmi makes the important point that pivoting can also mean pivoting from societal or cultural norms.
  9. It’s not about pride for Urmi, it is the unparalleled satisfaction of being a human being
  10. Her words to live by – touch a life, in whatever way, in whatever capacity and know that who you are today is your contribution to the world.
