Here are my top 10 take aways from our chat –
- Sault Ste. Marie has a large Italian population – and a reputation for excellent Italian food!
- Peggy was one of the lucky people who knew from a young age what she wanted in her life – she wanted to work internationally.
- She got a job in the federal government and eventually took a job driving a tour bus in Western Canada.
- She was able to parlay her degree in sociology-anthropology into a job in the funeral home industry – clearly she has always been an out of the box thinker. 😊
- Her whole career trajectory was changed the moment the tsunami hit Sri Lanka in 2004.
- The Gambia has always been known as the Gambia.
- She was able to regroup, continuing her passion for lifelong learning and got her Master’s degree while teaching in the Philippines
- Peggy is someone who truly lives by her values – when her mother was not doing well health-wise, she took time away from her career to spend time with her mom – the best mom in the world.
- When she returned to work, even as a Canadian citizen, she found it challenging to look for work in Ottawa.
- Her words of wisdom from Maya Angelou - “Forgive yourself for not knowing what you didn't know before you learned it.”
