The Plus One Theory podcast launches a new series called "Delay the Binge," exploring how learning to pause before emotional eating can transform our relationship with food and create lasting change. My personal journey from struggling with emotional eating at nearly 300 pounds to developing a simple but powerful pause technique demonstrates how small, intentional actions can lead to meaningful transformation.

• Origin story of Delay the Binge emerging from a marketing conversation about the Plus One Theory
• Personal struggle with emotional eating that led to weighing almost 300 pounds
• The breakthrough discovery of pausing and saying "I can have this tomorrow if I still want it"
• How one pause represents a Plus One that accumulates to create sustainable change
• Understanding that Delay the Binge applies beyond food to overthinking, overworking, and other behaviors
• Announcement of the free Delay the Binge Collective launch event on October 2nd from 7-8pm Central Time
• Future monthly membership opportunity for ongoing community support
• "Your past doesn't define you, it prepares you" philosophy applied to emotional eating

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Plus One Theory podcast, where we
believe small, intentionalactions add up to meaningful
change.
I'm your host, pam Dwyer, andtoday's episode is a little
different because we're kickingoff a brand new series called
Delay the Binge.
Now, if you've been listeningfor a while, you've probably
heard me mention Delay the Bingehere and there, probably heard

(00:26):
me mention Delay the Binge hereand there, but today I want to
tell you the full story of whereit came from, why I created it
and what we're building togethernow.
So a few months ago, I wasmeeting with a marketing agency
and I was explaining the plusone theory, how it's all about
taking small, intentional stepswhat I call plus ones that stack
up over time to help you finishstronger.

(00:48):
And they said to me Pam, thisis wonderful, but once you
explain it, the plus one theoryis awesome, but we need
something more specific to grabpeople's attention right away.
So we started talking andbrainstorming and we talked
about all the ways I've beenhelping people apply the plus

(01:08):
one theory in their own livesthrough speaking, through
coaching, through everydaychoices, and we just kept
circling back to health andwellness.
Because here's the truth I usedto struggle deeply with
emotional eating.
My weight climbed to almost 300pounds.
I was sick, I was tired and Iwas depressed and I felt out of

(01:32):
control.
And then they asked me onesimple question Well, how did
you finally get control of it?
And without even thinking orskipping a beat, I said I
learned how to pause when I feltthe urge to binge.
I taught myself to stop in thatmoment and say I can have this

(01:53):
tomorrow if I still want it.
That pause gave me space.
It took away the urgency, theshame and the all or nothing,
the shame and the all or nothing.
And that pause became theturning point.
And right then, in thatconversation, delay the Binge
was born.
Since that day I've beenworking like crazy to bring this

(02:17):
to life.
What started as something Iused personally has grown into a
method and now a community.
Because here's the thing delaythe binge isn't separate from
the plus one theory.
It's a perfect example of it.
One pause is a plus one.
One intentional choice in themoment can change everything and

(02:41):
over time those pauses add upto a new identity.
And if you followed me for awhile, you know my motto your
past doesn't define you, itprepares you.
My past struggle with food andemotional eating prepared me to
teach this, to walk alongsideother people who are tired of

(03:02):
the cycle, who already know whatto do but can't figure out why
they're not doing it.
So what does this mean for youand for this podcast?
Well, it means we're dedicatingan entire series right here on
the Plus One Theory podcast tothe new and upcoming Delay the
Binge.
In these episodes, we'll talkabout emotional eating,

(03:26):
overthinking, overworking andall the ways we binge when life
feels too heavy.
I'll share practical tools youcan use in the moment, stories
from women just like you andconversations with health and
wellness professionals who canhelp us go deeper, because this
isn't just about food.

(03:46):
This is about building aroutine and structure that
actually works for your uniquelife.
I mean, you're a one of a kindright, and here's the exciting
part we're not just talkingabout it, we're practicing it
together.
I'm so excited.
On October 2nd, from 7 to 8 pmCentral Time, I'll be hosting

(04:08):
the very first Delay the BingeCollective launch event.
It's free, it's online and it'syour chance to learn how to
pause in real time, try out thetools and see if this is
something you want to continuewith us each month.
You can sign up atDelayTheBingecom and if you
can't make it live, no worries,I'll send you the replay.

(04:31):
All you got to do is give meyour email and your name and
you'll be in the know.
This very first event is freeand after that the collective
will continue as a monthlymembership, because change
doesn't happen in one day.
It happens in a community, onepause at a time.
So here's what I want you to doHit, follow, hit, subscribe and

(04:56):
share this episode with someoneyou care about, someone that
could use the support.
Because the truth is so manypeople are struggling.
They've got the tools, they'vegot the education, they've made
the progress, but they stillfind themselves stuck in a binge
cycle, going up and down like ayo-yo.

(05:17):
Delay the Binge is aboutfiguring out why.
It's about building new toolsand practicing them until they
become second nature.
Remember, every pause is a plusone, and a plus one at a time
helps you finish stronger thanyou started.
So stay tuned for our seriesDelay the Binge in the next few

(05:41):
episodes.
I hope you enjoy it.
Thanks for listening and seeyou next week.

Are You A Charlotte?

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
