Mark (00:01):
Hey, what's going on?
Welcome to the PodcastAccelerator back from hiatus.
I am your host, Mr.
Mark Asquith, co-founder of Captivate.fm.
And in this short episode, I just wantto give you a bit of a bonus look at
what is coming up here on the podcastaccelerator as we ramp up to the first.
(00:24):
Proper episode droppingvery, very shortly.
So if you've tuned into the, the,the episode that I previously put out
about why I took the hiatus and, and,and I think what Motivate motivated
me for, for coming back, you'llknow that I wanted to do two things.
I wanted to stay focusedon your podcast growth.
You know, what, what can we docollectively as Captivate, but
(00:46):
also collectively as an industryto help you to grow your podcast
because that's why we are here.
And in particular, it's why I.
I've brought this content back.
The podcast accelerator is one ofthe OG shows now, believe it or not,
it's one of the OG shows helpingyou with your podcast growth.
We've seen a lot of gurus pop up over thelast year or two, um, who have got, you
know, um, varying experience in podcastingand, uh, looking to capitalize on, on
(01:12):
the booming industry that is podcastingby bringing out shows, uh, that, that
purport to help you to grow your podcast.
And I'm not saying they're good.
I'm not saying they're bad.
They're all subjective.
Of course, that is entirely up to you.
However, my focus is on action.
It's on about basicallygetting you to do things.
It's all about making sure thatyou know what you can do within
(01:32):
the boundaries of your timeframes.
And not feeling bad aboutnot doing certain things.
I think that's a bit of aproblem in the industry.
You know, if you don't adopt certainthings, if you don't jump on certain
trends, if you don't do certain things,a lot of people will frankly make
you feel bad and, you know, make youfeel like you're not a quote unquote.
Proper podcaster, which isof course absolute rubbish.
(01:55):
So I never wanna make you feel like that.
You know me, if you've listened to thisshow for the, for the hundreds of episodes
and all the thousands of episodes thatI've done in the past, across the very
shows that I've done, you know, that Iam very much about being honest with you.
I'm very much aboutbeing straight, talking.
I'm very, very, very much aboutcutting down on the hyperbole and
(02:15):
making sure that you know that.
It's all right not to do everything.
It's quite all right not to do everything.
So what does this mean for this podcast?
How does that manifest into content?
Well, as I mentioned on the previouscoming out of hiatus episode, I'm,
I'm mixing things up a little bit.
(02:35):
I'm still gonna keep that redthread running through, which
is, of course actionable Straighttalking podcast growth education.
And a lot of that will come from me.
You know, I'm still gonna do solo shows,I'm still gonna do solo episodes cuz
everything's changing and there's a lotof education to give and I'm still being
a marketer, I'm still being a podcaster.
So I've still got things to say.
(02:56):
I've still got things to, to, todiscuss with you and to educate
you on and to help you with.
And obviously people ask mequestions all the time, so of course
I wanna address those as well.
However, I am gonna bring on somefantastic guests to talk about some.
Particular topics that they might bea little bit closer to or they've got
more of a dedicated interest in, or,you know, they're just, they focus
(03:18):
on a lot more specifically than I do.
So I'm looking forward to, tobringing those guests to the,
they're all people that I know.
They're all people that areexperts at what they do.
They're all people that if you're inthe podcasting industry or if you are
even around the podcasting industry, then you're probably gonna know 'em.
So, Here's what's coming up.
All right, we're gonna talk tostart about, we're gonna do actually
(03:41):
three episodes on monetization.
I'm really interested in helpingyou to monetize your podcast,
so we're gonna talk about.
Um, really how to use things likesubscriptions and tipping and all
sorts of things like that, you know, the, the kinda listener support model.
Cause we get a lot ofquestions about that.
I'm gonna talk first andforemost from my perspective.
I'm gonna do an episode on, on, on, on,on my views on that and how to design
(04:04):
that kind of listener support experience.
Then I'm gonna talk to anexpert, someone that's done this.
Well, alright, I'm gonna talk toan expert, someone that has done
this well about how to reallyharness that on a separate episode.
And then I'm gonna dig deep into reallykind of scaling that and, and, and
going a bit deeper on, on the kind ofhow that model works and how you might
(04:25):
be able to help yourself to monetizefairly early on in your podcasting
journey using things like tipping andsubscriptions and so on and so forth.
So I'm really looking forward.
To that bunch of episodes.
We've also got an episodecoming up, uh, about YouTube.
We're actually gonna talk aboutYouTube's free to podcasting.
What that means for youthat that landscape.
(04:46):
Um, when it comes to, you know, whatdoes this mean for podcasting, the
medium, but what does it also meanfor you, the day-to-day podcaster?
And joining me on that episode isgonna be a good friend of mine and
someone that is, uh, is basicallyclose to every part of podcasting.
Right now is of course, Mr.
James Cridland, the founderand the editor of POD News.
So I'm looking forward to exploringYouTube's new podcasting toolkit with Mr.
(05:10):
Cridland, which is gonna be fascinating.
We are also gonna talk about.
About community and in particular,The state of community in podcasting.
And what I mean by that is like youcreating a community for your podcast.
Cuz it used to be that you, you know, you'd have a podcast and you'd fire up a
(05:30):
Facebook group and that was it, you know?
But there are a lot of technical tools outthere that will help with community and.
The attention spans that peoplehave a very, very low in comparison
to what you might expect.
So how do you actuallyget people to engage?
What does community around yourpodcast look like, look like today?
What does it look like in 2023?
Because it is different to lastyear, the year before, and it's
(05:52):
probably gonna be different againover the next couple of years.
So that's a really important topicbecause I think without an audience
that is engaged, as you know, if you'velistened to this show, You know you're
gonna struggle to do anything else.
Alright.
So that's really quite fascinatingand I've also got what is quite
interesting for me that I'mlooking forward to getting out.
Then an interview with me on my own show, reflecting on 10 years of podcasting.
(06:19):
An interview by my good friend, thefounder of Pod Chat and Captivates.
Fantastic support and experience lead.
Mr.
Danny Brown, someone that lovespodcasting just as much as I do,
and has got his finger firmly on thepulse of the podcasting industry,
very much from a creator perspective.
So he's actually interviewed me andhe's, you know, we've talked about
(06:40):
the last 10 years in podcasting.
What I think about a few things, what Ithink of a few things that might happen
in the future, and just generally theindustry, it's quite a nice opportunity.
Um, to be interviewed on my own podcast.
It's been a while since I've donethis on my show, so I'm really looking
forward to getting that out to you.
It was a fantastic chat withDanny and I thank you my friend
Danny, for doing that as well.
(07:01):
So we've got a packed schedule.
I'm looking forward to getting justback into the swing of things with you
and I'm excited to get this contentout to you, but I wanted to give you
a heads up on what was coming becauseI didn't want you just thinking
well, I'll wait till it comes out.
Marko.
You know, you've waited, you've beenpatient with me with the hiatus, and
I'm very, very grateful for that.
So I wanted to do my part just tolet you know what you can expect
(07:22):
of the coming weeks and months.
So thank you so much for joining me.
I appreciate you.
I want you to look after yourself.
Keep on podcasting, keep sharing your voice.
Keep doing what you do.
Much love as ever.
Take it easy and justkeep doing what you do.
All right?
Get your voice out there and keepon building that audience because it
matters to the people who follow you.
(07:45):
Until next time, bye-bye for now.
