Ever wondered about the real numbers behind a podcast's success? This episode dares to openly reveal our podcast's statistics, ranging from download numbers to listener engagement rates. With over 53,000 downloads since our 2020 launch, we dive into the week-by-week fluctuations and share the fascinating insights we've uncovered.

The latter half of the episode takes a more introspective turn as we explore the 'why' behind our podcast. Unlike the mainstream race for maximum downloads and SEO optimization, my aim was less about quantitative success and more about qualitative growth.

Inspired by Pat Flynn's 'Ask Pat,' our podcast is about honing public speaking skills, creating an intimate listener experience, and delivering resonating solo content to our niche audience. As you tune in, we encourage you to reflect on your own content journey and the bigger purpose it serves. Remember, it's not always about the numbers but the impact you make.

Welcome back to another episode of the potty
report.
So I know that you wanna knowabout stats, right, we talk
about stats aren't everything, they don't define your entire
content journey.
But you wanna know I know youdo, because you ask me, people

(00:22):
ask me, they reach out and itgets awkward.
It's almost like askingsomebody how much money they
make, right?
They're like.
Well, unlike YouTube, whereeverything is available, you can
see how many subscriberssomebody has, you can see how
many views that their videos aregetting.
Podcasting isn't like that andit makes things real awkward

(00:43):
real fast.
So I'm just gonna share with yousome of the stats for the
podcast just to kinda give youan idea of how the show is
performing, as of me recordingthis in September 2023.
So in the last 90 days, thispodcast has gotten 1,904
downloads, so just shy of 2,000downloads in a monthly basis.

(01:08):
And as I'm looking at the stats, in the last seven days, it's
gotten 892.
So that's what the last sevendays of the podcast have been,
and then over time so all timesince March of 2020, it has
gotten 53,871 downloads, so alittle under 55,000 downloads

(01:35):
for the podcast since itlaunched in 2020.
Now I can tell you that on aregular basis, like how many
downloads that this show gets ona regular week to week.
I can actually go, since I'mpoking around I'm in here in
Buzzsprout poking around.
There's probably between, Iwould say, 20 to 30 people that

(01:59):
listen to this podcast regularly, like whenever I would go in
and look at, like from this weekto next week, you know, like,
how many people have listened, how many people have downloaded
this.
I usually don't look at it allthe time, but I do see it on.
You know, the week that I'muploading new content, I would

(02:20):
look at the numbers for theprevious week and it's usually
between 20 and 30.
Now there was a time where Iremember it was like four and
there was like 12.
So there weren't a lot ofpeople listening when I first
started in.
In comparison to my other typesof content, this is still
probably the smallest nicheaudience that I have and I

(02:45):
wanted you to just share some ofthe stats so you can see this
isn't something that I promote.
I don't typically promote thispodcast ever, unless I talk
about it in other places.
I'm like oh yeah, by the way, Ihave the potty report.
This is my daily show.
Sometimes I'll link to it in myemail newsletter or in, you
know, different episodes of theprofit podcast, but this is

(03:07):
something that I'm not activelytalking about on social.
I'm not putting clips of thisshow out there, and that's just
because bandwidth and I wasnever able to do that because of
capacity, and I just wanted tocreate the thing and not really
spend a ton of time marketing it, because that's not what the
purpose of it was.

(03:27):
It wasn't a big SEO optimizationplay of like, oh, I need to
dedicate this.
No, it was simply for the factthat I wanted to get better at
public speaking.
I wanted to have more podcastepisodes under my belt and I
wanted to have an intimateexperience with those people
that wanted it.
That's really what it was.

(03:48):
I think back to Pat Flynn, likeI remember he launched his show
Ask Pat and I thought, oh, howcool is this.
You know like he's answeringpeople's specific questions and
it's just another way for him toengage with people.
But I wanted it to be somethingthat you could listen to
whenever and I didn't want toadd, oh, I have to interview
people or I have to getquestions, and what do people

(04:09):
don't submit questions.
This has been 900 plus episodesof me, solo content, solo
creation, and it has made mesuch a better speaker in that
capacity and I'm so grateful forit.
So the stats, when it comesdown to it did this podcast give
me millions and millions ofdownloads?
No, it didn't, but that's notwhat the purpose of it was.

(04:31):
So when you look at your ownstats, your own numbers, I want
you to reflect on what are youdoing this thing for, and is it
serving a bigger purpose, ahigher purpose than just numbers
and downloads?
But that's all I have for youtoday.
So, as always, remember, keepit fresh, keep it fun and just
keep going.
