Speaker 0 (00:00):
Welcome back to
another episode of the Putty
Report.
So I didn't really talk aboutthis yesterday yesterday's
episode because, honestly, whenI was recording I thought I was
going to get choked up.
I didn't want to totally loseit while I was talking about it.
But I made the announcement ofshutting down the Putty Report
(00:24):
for now and it kind of spurredthe idea of talking about hard
decisions and how to know when, however you want to look at it,
enough is enough.
It's time to make a change.
There's a lot of different waysthat you can look at this
approach, because people havecome to me and said how do you
(00:45):
know when it's time to make apivot in your podcast?
How do you know when it's timeto shut something down and start
something new, or how do youknow when it's time to walk away
?
I've had people that have hadco-hosting relationships and
their content and it's been areally hard decision to decide
(01:06):
to leave, especially if thecreative direction is going in a
place that you're just like.
I just don't want to keep goingon this path.
This isn't the thing that Isigned up for or it's not what I
want to do.
That can be really hard when itcomes from me.
This is, of course, all mypersonal opinion about it, but
(01:26):
when I think about making harddecisions in my business
specifically that's what we'retalking about my content and my
business I put it through thelens of is this growing my
audience, so exposing me to newpeople?
Is this generating revenue, making me money, or is it
(01:46):
growing my email list?
I have decided that those arethe three key areas that I focus
on.
That is the lens thateverything must go through.
When I sat down and I startedthinking about what are all the
things I'm doing in my business, the potty report specifically
is not exposing me to a newaudience because this isn't
(02:11):
something that I promote on aregular basis.
It's not making me any money.
I don't have sponsors for thisshow and I don't have typically
a lot of affiliate revenue comefrom this program or this
podcast.
Number three is it's not reallygrowing my email list.
Because of the first two things,it's not something that I'm
(02:31):
overly promotional on this showand I sure I'll share some
valuable resources and stufffrom time to time, but typically
this show has been reserved asmy creative sandbox and where I
want to play around and testideas and everything like that
when I came to the decision, first of all, the very first
(02:53):
thing that I did is I let theidea sit there.
I didn't just have the idea andthe next day, within 24 hours,
say you know what?
I'm going to stop, I'm going topull the plug and I'm not going
to do anymore.
This was a few weeks that Ithought about this.
I told the story earlier aboutbeing on the beach and sitting
(03:15):
there, and then the thoughtpopped into my head and I was
absolutely rejecting it.
I was sitting there having thisargument in my head about no,
absolutely not.
I was so defensive to myself.
I was like what are you eventhinking about?
Of course we're not going tostop that.
That is your thing, that's okay.
(03:38):
This is another thing too.
I am at 900 something episodes.
The next thought was we can'tstop, we have to get to 1,000.
All of a sudden, it wasn't.
You're not just going to stopthis, you're going to make it to
1,000 because you havesomething to prove.
Now that I slept on it and Ididn't make this decision
(03:59):
lightly I really thought aboutit.
I was like I don't haveanything to prove, I've done it.
Between this podcast and theProfit Podcast, I've created
over 1,300 podcast episodes.
That still boggles my mind thatI even did that in the first
place, but I don't have anythingto prove.
The decision was a lot easieronce I settled on that.
(04:22):
Don't have something to proveand don't make snap decisions,
snap judgments about the nextmove in your business or your
content.
Sleep on it.
If you have an idea, pop up.
If you have a thought, thinkabout it for a while.
It makes those hard decisions alittle bit easier because it
doesn't feel so compulsive andin the moment, that's all I have
(04:43):
for you today.
If you have any questions aboutthis, please reach out.
I'd love to chat, but that'sall I have.
As always, remember, keep itfresh, keep it fun and just keep
going.
