Greetings Family,
I hope this message finds you well. In this edition of the Poethnic Justice Podcast, we cover a topic that I've heard many white people ask me over the years (but not so much in the past 4 years).
The question is, "Why do I need to do anything about racism when I don't have a racist bone in my body?" or something along those lines.
That inquiry is normally followed with the phrases I've heard a million times like, "I have black friends that are like brothers and sisters to me," or "I was married to a black person for such-and-such number of years."
Most white people, even the so-called "liberal" ones, believe they're anti-racism/white supremacy just because they don't outright adopt and practice it.
That's a very safe position to adopt, and doing so bears little social consequences. But, when it comes to a white person--or any non-white person for that matter--who is truly committed to abolishing the system of race and who desires genuine retribution on behalf of the black people that system has harmed, John Brown is one of the only examples in history I can point to.
In this edition of Poethnic Justice, we're discussing what a real white ally looks like and honoring the legacy of the anti-white supremacists, Jim Brown.
