In this episode, Eric L. Frazier, President and CEO of The Power Is Now Media speaks with Rose Mayes, Executive Director of the Fair Housing Council of Riverside, CA, and Vice President of the Brand New Civil Right Institute of the Inland Southern California Museum talks about the Newly Constructed Mission Heritage Plaza at 3933 Mission Inn Avenue in downtown Riverside. Attendees of the Museum can immerse themselves in the inaugural exhibition, “Still I Rise: The Black IE Fight for Justice,” a show exploring the historic struggles and triumphs of Black community builders in the Inland Empire from the 1800s to today. They will also see 72 units of affordable workforce housing, the Centerpiece of the Mission Heritage Plaza. And Brand Rose and Eric discuss the Newly constructed offices for the Fair Housing Council of Riverside County has been on the front line fighting for fair housing, homeownership, and discrimination of all kinds in Riverside for over 30 years. The Fair Housing Council of Riverside sold land, raised money, and began this journey to not only have better facilities to do the great work they do but provide affordable housing and celebrate the defeats and victories of civil rights in the inland that has been ongoing since the establishment of Riverside 1870. In addition, the Civil Right Institute & Museum will offer cultural and social history exhibitions, an oral history recording media centre, and a digital archive to preserve the history of diverse Inland communities and space for educational programs and performances. A Walk of Fame in front of the building will honor some of the region’s many civil rights advocates who have made a regional, statewide, national, and international impact on civil rights issues. Rose Mayes has led this effort from the very start to the end.
