Coach Fran Dunphy.
Born in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, Dunphy played basketball at La Salle University before embarking on a coaching career that spanned over five decades. He began his head coaching tenure at Penn in 1989, where he secured 10 Ivy League titles and led the team to nine NCAA Tournament appearances over 17 seasons.
In 2006, Dunphy transitioned to Temple University, becoming the first coach to lead two different Big 5 programs. At Temple, he amassed 270 wins, guided the Owls to eight NCAA Tournaments, and clinched four conference titles, including three Atlantic 10 championships and one American Athletic Conference title. Dunphy returned to La Salle in 2022, his alma mater, to serve as head coach, continuing his legacy in the Big 5. He announced his retirement at the end of the 2024–25 season, concluding a remarkable coaching career with a record of 611–361.
Coach Dunph was inducted into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame in 2019 and received the Gene Bartow Award for his contributions to the game. His coaching tree includes notable figures such as Steve Donahue, Aaron McKie, and Jerome Allen.
