Krystal Proffitt (00:01):
recording
content in public is always real
funny.
But here we go, I'm out on mywalk and I'm really excited to
talk about publishing your firstpiece of content.
So, whether it's your firstpodcast episode, it's your first
YouTube video, whatever it is,youtube video, whatever it is.
(00:30):
Let's talk about hittingpublish, because I get emails
like this all the time.
So this is someone whopurchased our course.
We have a course all about howto get started, how to start
launching, market a podcast in30 days or less, so you should
check it out Profit Podcastingbut I get these emails, get
these messages.
I talk to people at conferences.
We have just so many differentinteractions with people who are
(00:54):
terrified to hit publish forone reason or another.
Like sometimes it's like, well,it just doesn't feel right,
it's not the right time for meor, you know, you could have so
many different reasons why it'snot right, and so I want to talk
through some of those today andget into the nitty gritty of
why this might be holding youback too.
(01:16):
Welcome to the Profit Podcast, where we teach you how to start,
launch and market your contentwith confidence.
I'm your host, crystal Profit, and I'm so excited that you're
here.
Thanks for hanging out with metoday, because if you've been
trying to figure out the worldof content creation, this is the
show that will help be yourtime-saving shortcut.
So let's get right to it, shallwe?
(01:41):
So I actually want to read thisspecific email from a current
student.
It says hey, crystal, you know, finished first two modules.
I love the course, you're agreat teacher, I'm learning so
much.
Thank you so much, like that'sso nice of you to say.
But then they go on to say I'mreally struggling right now.
I recorded my intro out of themusic and I'm happy with that.
(02:02):
But every time I go to recordmy first episode I completely
freeze up.
I don't know what to say.
I feel like I just keeprambling on and on watching the
clock tick away.
Does this mean that I'm notmeant to be a podcast or meant
to do a podcast?
I'm a certified coach andspeaker and I love sharing about
personal development.
(02:22):
Believing in her confidence, Ihit record.
It's like I don't rememberanything at all.
Any help would be greatlyappreciated.
I've tried self-talk, I'vetried journaling about it.
I've tried a cost-benefitanalysis of why I want to at
least try doing a podcast andstill can't get the episode one
done.
So a few things that werementioned here is one they
(02:46):
already recorded theintroduction.
They recorded with their music, like they got everything set up
for the main piece, but thenthey, they can't record the
actual episode.
So do you know what this tellsme?
This tells me that tech andequipment like those aren't the
(03:07):
issues that they're strugglingwith, which is typically what
happens with so many podcasters.
They get really hung up on theright microphone or the software
or the settings.
So clearly that's not the issuehere.
It's the confidence and maybe alittle bit of the content.
So another thing that I'll seeoften is when people are like
(03:29):
what am I supposed to say inthis very first episode?
Do I introduce myself?
Do I tell my life story?
Do I go into all the details ofwhy this message and this
podcast matters to me?
And you may not like thisanswer, but it depends.
Everybody's different.
Like I don't teach cookiecutter content strategies, I
(03:50):
don't think that every singlecontent creator should be doing
the exact same thing.
I think that we all have ourown unique skill sets, our own
abilities, but also ouraudiences are so different too,
plus your industry.
There's so many factors toconsider.
So I don't agree in acookie-cutter approach that
(04:12):
everyone should do everythingthe same way, but I will say
that tech is clearly not anobstacle here.
So let's dive into what is.
So this notion of freezing up,even though you've told yourself
you're an incredible speakerand you can even speak in front
of dozens or hundreds or eventhousands of people on stage.
(04:35):
But yet when you get behind amicrophone, and it's just you,
right, you're in your office, you're in your closet, wherever
you're recording, or maybeyou're sitting at your desk and
you're recording a YouTube video, and it's just you.
So many of us feel stupid, somany of us feel awkward, so many
of us start questioning am Iright for this?
(04:56):
Am I doing the right thing?
It's not you.
This happens to everyone.
So I hope someone's taking thatwith you know some depth right
there, because it does.
It happens to everyone.
You just have to decide how areyou going to push past that and
get to the other side ofuncomfortable, impressive
(05:26):
creators behind the scenes, frompeople that run huge businesses
to people that have beenspeaking on stage forever.
And it's a universal feeling tofeel really awkward when it's
just you right, because youdon't have the energy of an
audience or someone else beingphysically in the room with you.
That just gets so uncomfortable.
So here's what I always tellpeople Don't feel like you can't
(05:47):
record something, then deleteit, and then record something
else and then delete that andthen keep doing that process
until you feel reallycomfortable with that final
result.
And a lot of you won't likethis next thing, this next piece
of advice I'm going to share, but don't overthink it.
(06:11):
I know like it's so easy for usto be in our own way and good
is the enemy of great but at theend of the day, like, just
record something and delete itif you hate it.
And then if it finally gets toa point where you're like, okay,
like this is, this is fine, Ican, I can go forth with this
Then that's the version you goforth with.
(06:32):
And then I encourage you toremember you're in this for the
long game.
You're not in this to just putout like the best one podcast
episode ever or the best YouTubevideo ever.
Right, at least I hope you'renot.
I hope you are thinking aboutdoing this because you want to
(06:55):
improve and you want to show upand say, yeah, I can do this and
I can get better at it, whichis probably the bravest thing
that any content creator can dois just committing to the
process, committing to showingup and to keep showing up, and
that's the part of the journey.
That's what I love about thisright.
(07:17):
We created the ConsistentCreators Club all because we
wanted a space for you to sharethat longevity and know that.
It's about being in it for thelong game.
It's about creating aconsistent rhythm to what you're
(07:39):
going to do.
Again, it's not about creatingthat one perfect piece of
content.
It's about creating something, hitting publish and moving on to
the next piece of content sothat you can show up and serve
your audience in the best waypossible.
But that's enough for me.
I want to hear from you.
So if you've published a pieceof content like what was that
(08:00):
biggest struggle or that biggesthurdle you had overcome, I
would love to get some commentsgoing to encourage other people
that again, this happens foreverybody and you can push past
it.
You can hit publish on thatvery first episode and then hit
publish on that second one andthat third one, and that 20th
(08:21):
one, and then that 200th one,and you will find that everyone
has a struggle.
Everyone has a version of thatfirst episode that they're proud
of, but they're also like oh, Idid this, but also don't go
listen to it.
And this happens to so manypeople.
But if you're wondering how tostart a podcast, or if you're

accountable on this journey, come join us in the
