Now, april is National MinorityHealth Month, so before we jump
into today's topic, I want toshare a quick wellness tip that
aligns with the episode, andthat is laugh more and play
(00:43):
often.
Play and joy are essential forwell-being, and laughter and fun
impact mental and physicalhealth for the better.
Laughter, in particular, releases endorphins that improve
mental health.
So make time for fun.
Now let's get into today'stopic Romanticizing your life
(01:03):
how to cultivate more joy andmagic daily.
There is so much power in smallmoments.
For me.
I love the feeling of holding ahot cup of tea between my hands
, the first sip that's just atthe right temperature, not
enough to burn the roof of mymouth or my tongue, but warm
(01:27):
enough to warm me up.
The taste of my favoriteflavors the spearmint and a
little dash of honey, is sosatisfying to me the joy in
starting my day and saying to mydog, stormy Girl, okay, it's
time to start our day, and weboth hop to it her anticipation
(01:50):
when it's time to go on a walkand her excitement and eagerness
to go outside and sniff around.
The incredible mood boosterthat the sun is and how its
warmth can literally change howI feel and unravel me in ways
that feel so necessary thesoftness of my favorite robe
(02:14):
against my skin, or how pretty Ifeel at the end of the night
once I've done my nighttimeroutine and have a chance to
glance in the mirror.
There's so much power in smallmoments that feel good and that
help us to romanticize our livesand cultivate more joy and
(02:36):
magic in our day-to-day.
So what does it mean toromanticize your life?
When folks say that, they don'tmean to turn it into a rom-com,
no, it's simpler than that.
It means finding small joys andbeing intentionally present in
the moment, having appreciationand deep gratitude, moment by
(02:59):
moment, and recognizing when youare and recognizing when you
are and recognizing when you'reliving in an answered prayer.
Leading up to taking the leapwith my consulting work, one of
the things that I said all thetime was that I wanted to be
able to spend more time with mygrandmother and with my dog.
I didn't want to have tosacrifice so much time commuting
(03:23):
far distances or sacrificingall of my time constantly
working, and being able tocreate more leisure and more
spaciousness in my days has beenreally transformative for how
I've been able to spend timewith the folks who matter most
to me.
Romanticizing my life thesedays is being grateful for
(03:45):
answered prayers, being gratefulfor bringing to life what I
spoke over myself, anddaydreaming about what's to come
.
Romanticizing my life has alsomeant being really present.
I mentioned previously on thepodcast that I'm in the process
of writing a book, and I'm superexcited for that project to be
(04:08):
coming out very soon.
If you missed that episode,it's episode 69, why Singleness
is a Gift, even if society saysit's not.
And something else I talk aboutin the book that I didn't
mention in that episode is how Iromanticized one Valentine's
Day in particular.
It was during a Valentine's Daythat I really wanted to pour
(04:31):
some extra TLC into myself, so Iliterally did everything in my
power that would make me feelspecial and loved.
On that day, I took a virtualsiren flow class by Nat Naya,
who owns Naya's Valley and wholeads Siren Flow classes in
person and virtually A movementpractice meant to reconnect you
(04:57):
with your body through touch andthrough movement.
It was so special to take it onValentine's Day.
I made sure the lighting andthe mood was right in my space
and after doing that I set upsome refreshments.
And after doing that I set upsome refreshments for myself and
some wine.
(05:17):
I set up some refreshments formyself and some wine, grabbed a
book, ran myself a bubble bathand just soaked for a while and
enjoyed some snacks and read andsteamed and enjoyed it.
It felt so great to show up formyself in that way, and that is
(05:43):
an example of using that smallmoment to feel really connected
to myself.
It added beauty to my day on aday when I really needed it, and
now I get to write about howimpactful that was, in every
single detail about it, andshare it in a larger creative
project.
Adding beauty to your life andromanticizing your life can be
very simple.
It could be taking a new pathin a way that you typically walk
to and from work and noticingthe architecture around you, the
(06:09):
scene, the nature, the soundsof children playing or the sound
of dogs barking, it could benoticing a loving couple walking
by in a quick embrace.
Adding beauty to your day couldmean being intentional about
how you plate your food, addingmore color, more texture to your
(06:30):
plate, maybe with an edibleflower or a new topping you
haven't tried before.
Adding beauty to your day couldmean taking a mental health
walk and getting some fresh airoutside of your home, outside of
the building that you work inor the space that you work in,
and reconnecting with theneighborhood or the city around
you.
(06:50):
Adding beauty to your lifecould mean gardening in whatever
way might be possible for youright now.
Maybe that's growing somethingindoors or on a fire escape, or
on a balcony or a porch or abackyard or in a community
garden.
It could look like connectionwith friends when you haven't
had that in a while.
(07:11):
There are so many ways to addbeauty to your life and to
romanticize it and to make thesmall, mundane moments more
powerful and more impactful.

today and to be sure to try outthis week's wellness tip and let
