Speaker 1 (00:00):
Gen Z, Millennials,
Gen X and Boomers.
Those are the four generationssupposedly at war with each
other these days, but you can bepart of something entirely
different, even if you qualifyas a Boomer, like me, and I want
my Gen Zs to start sharing this.
Hi, I'm Corbie Mitleid, andthis is the Psychic Yellow Brick
(00:22):
Road.
The world is changing and lifedoesn't have the spark it used
to, so we look around and askwhere do I need to go to catch
the magic?
Again, you've found it.
Welcome to the Psychic YellowBrick Road, a weekly podcast
that delves into the intuitiveworld, metaphysics, life purpose
(00:43):
and how to connect with thecompassion of spirituality.
I'm Corbie Mitleid and I'vebeen on the Psychic Yellow Brick
Road for 50 years.
I'm a Certified Tarot Master, past life specialist, psychic
medium, channel, and author and, most importantly, I'm an Elder
in the field, ready to pass oneverything I've discovered to
you.
So let's hit that PsychicYellow Brick Road where you can
(01:06):
find the real wizards and avoidthe flying monkeys.
Spiritual Elders in the 21stCentury.
Now listen you, youngwhippersnapper.
This morning, I saw a meme thatwas a perfect example of why
this country is so broken.
(01:27):
It vehemently objected to theidea of raising the minimum wage
and forgiving student loans forpeople that they referred to as
lazy students and instead saidthat what should really happen
was that Social Security shouldbe raised for those of us who
have already worked our assesoff for 50 years.
Do you wonder why OK Boomer isnow an epithet and why I agree
(01:52):
with it?
Look, it's true, life wasbetter when I was growing up,
but these reasons illustratewhy: Fascism stayed where it had
been shoved in the past, in thedarkness.
Political compromise waspossible for the good of the
country.
Wage inequality wasn't nearlyas insurmountable as it is now.
(02:13):
We didn't believe that climatedisaster and mass extinctions
could make the worlduninhabitable.
in our lifetimes, We didn'tfear being murdered when we went
to school.
We didn't fear being shot inthe head because of our life
choices, who we loved, who wevoted for, how we viewed women's
(02:34):
rights, whether or not webelieved science, but we did
believe in the possibility ofhaving a better life than our
parents did.
As Boomers, it was always aboutus, from the moment we were
born.
We were like the bulge in theboa constrictor who swallows an
elephant, and the generationsfollowing are beginning to
(02:55):
wonder if we will ever not thinkof ourselves as more, better,
brighter or more deserving.
It's time for my generation tolearn to be 21st century
spiritual Elders, not Boomers.
So what's the differencebetween an Elder and a Boomer?
In times past, Elders agreedthat as one ages, one leaves the
(03:18):
world stage and makes room forthe next generation.
They left the spotlight andencouraged from the wings.
Elders understood that thegenerations needed to be
mutually supportive, that thefamily or community was a whole,
not persistent competitors whodeep down, resented each other.
Elders knew they were a sourceof wisdom, but it wasn't a
(03:42):
license to force-feed people howit used to be.
So how do you make the shift?
Here are my five rules forbeing a successful 21st-century
Spiritual Elder 1.
1 (03:57):
Think before you lecture.
Sometimes people are trying outdifferent ideas in their heads
or in a non-vital setting to seewhat works, what feels right.
2.
to immediately tell them theyare doing something wrong or
that you did it better, or toberate them for what you see as
foolish opinions or actionsmeans that you're cutting off
their growth at the root andfeeding them reasons to never
(04:20):
trust their own.
knowing.
People are not bonsai trees, don't force them to grow the way
you think they should.
2.
Respond rather than react Twowords with a huge difference.
Respond remember means to thinkcarefully about what's being
said or done and review all yourpossible reactions to decide
(04:43):
which one moves the dialogue orsituation forward in a positive,
constructive manner.
Reacting is falling back on aknee-jerk, unthinking response.
If that's always your go-toaction when someone says or does
something that doesn't fit yournarrative, it's out of line.
It also guarantees that youngerpeople will stop interacting
(05:05):
with you and that feeds into thesenior citizen's common
feelings of abandonment,irrelevance and loneliness.
3.
Listen without judgment.
So often people long to beheard and one gets heard when
someone listens to them withoutimmediately formulating an
(05:26):
answer.
When the speaker's only halfwaythrough what they're saying, I
often tell people listen withboth ears and your whole heart.
That means to be in a clear andcompassionate space where it
isn't all about you but theperson speaking, who has a right
to explore their worldviews, just as you did at the same age.
(05:47):
4.
Offer your thoughts and advicewhen asked or in an appropriate
setting.
Being in a conversation withsomeone younger doesn't give you
the right to start criticizingor correcting in the name of "in
my day.
If you are asked for input, take into account what they have
to factor in Costs, dangers, difficulties that perhaps you
(06:10):
didn't have to deal with.
Then share what you know.
5.
Be willing to let those youngergenerations take the lead in
projects.
Learn to be a third trencher.
What does that mean?
You have to go back to WorldWar I, for an example.
In trench warfare, the firsttrench held the soldiers who
(06:31):
were going over the top to fight.
The second trench, the nextwave of soldiers, but that
all-important third trench thathelped.
The supplies, the food, themedical treatment, all the
support needed by those on thefront lines came from the third
trenches while the fighting wasin the front.
That means that as an Elder, a21st century spiritual Elder,
(06:57):
you do the dishes and pack thelunches.
You don't necessarily get torun the event that feeds the
homeless.
You support the idea that it'sthe younger generation who will
plan the event, talk to themedia and step up to show the
world what's important to them.
All of this comes down to onevital message: Find a way to
(07:19):
make it work for everyoneinvolved.
Work together across thegenerations.
If you think it's all about youand not them, whoever you deem
them to be, you'll lose morethan you realize the only way
for any of us to prosper is forall of us to prosper, and that's
the most important lesson a21st century spiritual Elder can
(07:43):
pass along.
I've been guiding friends andclients since 1973.
I love showing youopportunities and how to grab
them, where the tough stuff isand how to get through it, and
handing you your toolbox throughtarot and oracle cards,
past-life exploration, spiritguides and angelic conferences
(08:03):
and mediumship.
