There’s an old saying that there are two ways go through life - being a victim or a volunteer. Today, we’re going to discuss why being a victim is a guarantee you’ll never get where you want to go, and it’s a spiritual dead end.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
There's an old saying there are two ways to go
through life being a victim or avolunteer.
Today, we're going to discusswhy being a victim is a
guarantee you'll never get whereyou want to go and it's a
spiritual dead end.
Hi, I'm Corbie Mitleid and thisis the Psychic Yellow Brick
Road.
The world is changing and lifedoesn't have the spark it used

(00:27):
to, so we look around and askwhere do I need to go to catch
the magic?
Again?
You've found it.
Welcome to the Psychic YellowBrick Road, a weekly podcast
that delves into the intuitiveworld, metaphysics, life purpose
and how to connect with thecompassion of spirituality.
I'm Corbie Mitleid and I'vebeen on the Psychic Yellow Brick
Road for 50 years.

(00:48):
I'm a Certified Tarot Master, past life specialist, psychic
medium, channel, and author and, most importantly, I'm an Elder
in the field, ready to pass oneverything I've discovered to
you.
So let's hit that PsychicYellow Brick Road where you can
find the real wizards and avoidthe flying monkeys.
Are you a professional victimor a spiritual explorer?

(01:15):
Okay, today we're going to talkabout the people you simply
can't help.
My clients come in alldifferent shapes and sizes and
circumstances.
Some of them are seasonedspiritual warriors, always ready
and eager for the nextchallenge.
Some are rookies.
They need extra time andexplanation regarding how life

(01:36):
works.
Some of them have walked thespiritual road for a while, but
they've lost their direction andcome to me as a way station and
a recalibration.
I welcome all of them and loveworking with each one to get
them on the road they seek.
But there's a key similarity inevery case they know they have

(01:56):
to walk the road themselves andif they meet a challenge, they
want to figure out a way to goover it, under it, around it or
transmute it.
But you know, there's one kindof client that I'll work with
only once, and that's theprofessional victim.
We all have them in our lives.
They can be anyone, any gender, gender fluid, friend or

(02:19):
relative, co-worker or stranger.
The professional victim is neverhappy happy because then they
have to take responsibility fortheir own life.
They're the ones who complainabout all the hard knocks they
get, how they're hurt and usedand life is so very, very unfair
.
They grumble aboutcircumstances, they bemoan their

(02:41):
situation and they bellyacheabout their relationships with
numbing regularity.
They say over and over againhow they want things to change,
but it never happens.
Maybe it's bad karma, maybethey're just not lucky, but they
know that it will never, everwork out in their favor.
For some people, life isnothing but rainstorms and

(03:03):
misery, because that's all theyunderstand.
Now a lot of us, in sympathy, make suggestion after suggestion
because we really do wantthings to get better for them.
But each suggestion is met witha reason why nothing will work.
What if you talk to your spouseabout your feeling left out of
decisions?
Oh, she never listens.

(03:23):
I can't be bothered.
What if you talk to your bossabout that raise?
Oh, bosses are so damn greedythey just want us to shut up and
work for pennies.
Too many times the professionalvictim deals with a child.
What if you stop enabling your29-year-old son and told him to
move out?
Oh, I couldn't do that.

(03:43):
I'd be a bad parent, but he'sso lazy and I can't afford to
pay for both of us.
I wish he'd do something.
In every case, the person findsrelief in complaining to anyone
who'll listen.
No-transcript.
Look, I have no fear of hittingyou upside the head with a clue

(04:07):
brick when you need it.
After all, it's my job.
And boy howdy, when thatprofessional victim comes to my
desk.
I am not gentle with them.
I point out pretty clearly thatthey're spending good money
with me, but no matter what thecards or their guide suggest,
they refuse to believe anythingcan be different.
They are dumbstruck at mybluntness and they either

(04:30):
acknowledge that fact and openup or I don't read them again,
and I make no apologies for that, because the single most
important piece of guidance Ican give you is this it starts
with you.
You are in charge of your ownexistence.
Nobody else Own the fact thatyou're in charge of your own

(04:51):
life, not the fates, not yourfinancial circumstances, not
your family or your birth oryour gender.
You, you get to respond, notreact to life situations where
you push your own buttons.
What's that mean?
People who react are knee-jerktypes.
They don't think, they don'treason, they just do what they

(05:12):
know.
You hit me, I hit back.
That's reaction.
Respond that's when somethinghappens and you think about what
is going on and decide whatyour next action is going to be.
That's also why I remind peoplethat the word responsibility
means the ability to respondrather than react.
Knowing that you're the captainof your own ship means you

(05:35):
decide how to steer it throughthe waters of your existence.
And here's how you can start byusing what I call the three most
important questions you can ask.
The first question when youlook at a situation and your
feelings around it is how am Ifeeling about this?
And the answer could beanything angry, afraid,
depressed, worried, exhausted.

(05:56):
Whatever the feeling is, it'svalid to acknowledge.
The second question is why am Ifeeling X about this, x being
the emotion you pinpointed?
Am I feeling X about this, xbeing the emotion you pinpointed
?
The more you understand whereyour feelings come from, looking
at things objectively, with nojudgment, the more you can
understand with compassion whatyou truly believe about a

(06:18):
situation.
You may need to ask why aroundthis question a couple of times
like this?
Why am I feeling angry aboutthe situation of times like this
?
Why am I feeling angry aboutthe situation?
Because my husband didn'tlisten?
Why do I believe he didn'tlisten?
Because I didn't get a response?
And the third question that'smagic.

(06:43):
What do I think would happen ifI stopped being X about that?
We never consider simplychanging our minds, deciding
that we don't need to foster acertain emotion.
In this case, if you stoppedbeing angry about your husband
supposedly not listening, youcould ask him did he hear you?
Perhaps he literally didn'thear the question at all, which
is very different from notlistening.
And finding that out, you canlet go of the anger.

(07:04):
You are no longer a victim.
You are in control of how youreact.
You are a spiritual explorer.
It makes all the difference inthe world.
I don't say that things willalways go your way.
Sometimes the waters will makefor smooth sailing, yes, but
sometimes they will be so roughyou will be pea green in the

(07:26):
face and hanging over the edgeof the railing.
Still, you will be the captain.
You get to claim your owntriumphs and recognize your own
miscalculations.
Either way, you are in chargeand that means all possibilities
are yours as well.
Time to write your own storywith the ending you choose, and

(07:48):
that's the most fun explorationof all.
I've been guiding friends andclients since 1973.
