Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's wonderful when we find things to inspire us,
but eventually we can grow pastwhat we loved.
So how do you pack it in yourmemory box, keeping only how it
helped you grow and let go ofthe rest?
Hi, I'm Corbie Mitleid, andthis is the Psychic Yellow Brick
Road.
The world is changing and lifedoesn't have the spark it used

(00:26):
to, so we look around and askwhere do I need to go to catch
the magic again?
You've found it.
Welcome to the Psychic YellowBrick Road, a weekly podcast
that delves into the intuitiveworld, metaphysics, life purpose
and how to connect with thecompassion of spirituality.
I'm Corbie Mitleid and I'vebeen on the Psychic Yellow Brick
Road for 50 years.

(00:47):
I'm a Certified Tarot Master, past life specialist, psychic
medium channel and author and, most importantly, I'm an elder
in the field, ready to pass oneverything I've discovered to
you.
So let's hit that PsychicYellow Brick Road where you can
find the real wizards and avoidthe flying monkeys.
Thank your inspirations, thenleave them behind.

(01:16):
All my life, when I have lovedsomething, I have really loved
it, whether it was Star Trek andthe Beatles, my first decade;
English History and the Wars ofthe Roses.
my second, medieval andRenaissance reenactment.
my third, lf Quest and thePhiladelphia rock band, the
Hooters, my fourth; or certainnew age and new thought thinkers

(01:38):
and philosopher.
my fifth and beyond.
Inspiration by others shaped mywhole world, whether it was the
people I worked for or thenovel series I wrote for.
I held them in the highestesteem and immersed myself in
everything about them.
I made sure friends andacquaintances knew about my
current love object, saw them inthe same fabulous light as I

(01:59):
did and would take them to heartas much as I had.
Even if there were parts of methat didn't agree with parts of
the CLO, I'd looked the otherway, telling myself that I was
wrong or missing something, thatthey had to be as wonderful as
I thought they were, weren'tthey?
Invariably I would be forced bycircumstances or the universe

(02:23):
but isn't that the same thing?
To realize that these, my idols, had feet or more of clay.
I'd come crashing down, feelingbereft of my guiding compass.
After a while I'd pick myselfup, shake myself off and go
about my life until the next bigthing caught my attention and
my heart.

(02:43):
In my fifties, the clue-brickfinally hit.
I needed to be my own muse.
I began pulling threadstogether, discovering what ideas
were present in all my formerobjects of devotion and
fashioning my own inspirations.
Once I did that, several thingshappened at once.
I got a real sense of my ownvalues.

(03:05):
I was rarely disappointed inhow my own worldview affected my
life After all, this was metalking to me.
I felt far more empowered tomake changes I'd put off because
they hadn't fit, whateverfan-road I was following at the
moment.
And, best of all, I found thatI could put my values to work in

(03:26):
the world, creating positivechange in a lot of different
directions On the way.
Without even realizing it, Ibecame an inspiration for other
people, and wasn't that a kickin the pants?
Who would have thought?
Maybe not me until I startedvaluing my own experience?
These days, though, there aresome very challenging aspects to

(03:49):
the world, there are alsopeople, ideas and movements that
can inspire us.
They come from everywhere.
A beloved New Age thinker, acharismatic religious figure, a
Hollywood couple devoting timeand effort to helping
disadvantaged children in everycountry.
A television talk show host whochampions change and growth.

(04:10):
Books at the forefront ofempowering world movements,
groups reaching out to theworld's poor, hungry and sick
People who create positivechange where they live, no
matter how difficult thecircumstances they face.
The list could go on for pages, and in ages past there were
artists and writers,philosophers and scientists,

(04:32):
preachers and poets who coulddistill ideas and thoughts into
splendid words and rivetingpictures.
They captured the imaginationand propelled people along new
roads of thought.
In a way, we have anoverabundance of inspiration
these days.
It seems as if everyone outthere has something to tell us,

(04:52):
an ideal towards which they feelwe should move.
And therein lies the danger.
If you filter everythingthrough the inspiration of
others, you never consider ideasor filters other than what you
or they know.
There's no room to grow.
Shannon Hayes, a friend andneighbor, is a farmer and

(05:13):
advocate for sustainable foodand living.
She's written nationallypraised cookbooks and lectures
on raising grass-fed livestockwith humane husbandry, ensuring
that the cattle, pigs andpoultry raised for food have
good, healthy, happy livesbefore they become nourishment
for us and our families.
She is inspired by what can becreated in a conscious and

(05:33):
nature-honoring environment.
Her cookbooks and her way oflife have encouraged thousands
to view food and farming in acompletely different light.
But she says that is only afirst step, or should be Quote
If you're inspired by my work,if you make changes in your life
.
That's terrific.
It's how I meant for things towork.

(05:54):
But to come back and think I amthe be-all and end-all, to
constantly look for me to giveyou answers and direction,
that's not useful for either ofus.
Take what you've learned, butthen go inspire yourself.
Get others enthusiastic aboutyour ideas.
Don't get stuck here.
End quote.
How many times have you heardsomeone say well, so-and-so

(06:16):
believes, or this group knowsthat, or I always live my life
by this, that and the othersystem and wondered if the
speaker had any thoughts oftheir own?
When we constantly refer toothers, we forget to ask how we
feel about things.
We let others do our thinkingfor us.
If you were washed up on adesert island with no other

(06:37):
reference points, you would haveto view the world strictly
through what you knew, based onyour experience.
People who inspire us firstchecked in with themselves,
reviewed their lives and askedwhat's my core?
What thread anchors me?
And while they may haveappreciated their inspirations,
they didn't stop there.
They found a way to move theirlife forward in a way that

(07:00):
reflects their personalworldview, rather than act as
someone else's permanent acolyte.
Here's an exercise that willgive you some perspective.
Go out and listen to how peoplevoice their beliefs.
If it's not clear where thebeliefs come from, don't be
afraid to ask why do you thinkso or where did you get that
perspective?

(07:20):
Remember to ask with a sinceredesire to learn, not with a
challenge in your question.
Then listen carefully.
You may hear how people acceptwithout question the beliefs of
their parents, their religion, their political party, their
school teacher or their boss.
You'll also hear whether theirinspirations are from love,

(07:41):
positive things or fears.
Remember that this is anobservation day.
Even if you don't hold the samebelief system, just listen in
nod and write it down.
When you come home, clear yourmind and list every influence
you can think of for yourselfAll the people and belief
systems and fads and groups andbooks and television shows and

(08:02):
popular movements and seminalevents.
Everything that really touchedyou and gave you part of your
understanding of life and theuniverse should go on that list.
Also ask yourself are therethings you really don't believe
anymore?
Are there things that wereanti-inspirations that you
bought into, like fear, bigotry, the inevitability of disease,

(08:24):
powerlessness or scarcity?
Those also affect beliefsystems in a big way.
Once you've gotten downeverything you can think of good
and bad, useful and not sogreat.
In a second column, I want youto write down one or two core
beliefs from each of thoseinfluences.
Now, is there a thread, is therea connecting word or phrase or

(08:49):
feeling that comes up time andagain With the anti-inspirations
?
Can you see a gift that theybrought you just the same?
For instance, if you believedin the inevitability of disease,
did it inspire you to learnmore about health and preventive
care?
If you believed in scarcity, did it inspire you to do
something positive in terms ofsaving, frugality, developing a

(09:13):
DIY streak or indulging in lessconspicuous consumption?
Before you leave theseanti-inspirations behind, turn
them inside out and thank themfor the good things that they
brought you.
Once you've harvested thesethreads or connecting phrases
from your life of inspirations, you're ready to fashion your own

(09:33):
personal revelation, one thatcrystallizes what you think,
based on everything that youknow, that you've experienced
and that you've come to realize.
Remember, the key word is you.
Do you love it, then keep it,use it, delight in it, play with
it.
If you don't love it, then playwith it, reshape it, reframe it

(09:55):
into something positive anduseful for you, until you hold
it up and say yep, this is me,this is how I want to inspire
myself from now on.
When I did this exercise, Ifound my threads to be humor and
independence and fearlessnessin the face of change, and
resilience and freedom andcompassion and truth in the face

(10:16):
of lies, and personalauthenticity and loyalty to
those I love, and courage tospeak out.
And the good gorgeousness ofwords, well written.
Yeah, that's a lot of words, but when I distilled them all
down they ended up in two simplephrases Live the examined life,
fling what I've learned intothe world like fairy dust, with

(10:40):
utter joy in the giving and noattachment whatsoever.
That's how I live.
That's what I encourage othersto live and look at that.
It's why I developed thispodcast, so I could share it all
with you.
I've been guiding friends andclients since 1973.
I love showing youopportunities in how to grab

(11:02):
