Speaker 1 (00:01):
Everybody knows about
tarot decks and there are
hundreds of books and classes tolearn how to use them.
But oracle decks, they'redifferent.
How do you get to know them andmake them yours?
Today, I'm going to show youhow to find your new path to
magic.
Hi, I'm Corbie Mitleid and thisis the Psychic Yellow Brick
Road.
The world is changing and lifedoesn't have the spark it used
(00:27):
to, so we look around and askwhere do I need to go to catch
the magic?
Again, you've found it.
Welcome to the Psychic YellowBrick Road, a weekly podcast
that delves into the intuitiveworld, metaphysics, life purpose
and how to connect with thecompassion of spirituality.
I'm Corbie Mitleid and I'vebeen on the Psychic Yellow Brick
Road for 50 years.
(00:49):
I'm a Certified Tarot Master, past life specialist, psychic
medium, channel and author and, most importantly, I'm an Elder
in the field, ready to pass oneverything I've discovered to
you.
So let's hit that PsychicYellow Brick Road where you can
find the real wizards and avoidthe flying monkeys, the magic of
(01:13):
oracle decks, how to choosethem and how to use them.
Next time you go to a psychicfair, take a look at the tools
the intuitives are using.
You'll see everything fromcrystals to scrying balls, to
spirit art to runes, but mostreaders have tarot cards.
It's a fair bet that peopleoutside the metaphysical world
(01:33):
have at least seen a deck Thinkof movies like Live and Let Die
or Practical Magic even if theyhaven't used one themselves.
Tarot decks have been aroundfor a long time and there are
literally thousands of volumes, courses and instructors for
discovering their ins and outs.
But these days, tarot has tomake room on the shelf for its
(01:55):
new-age cousins, oracle decks, and they are completely
different.
Whether you're a fan of fairies, dragons, en, Buddhists,
vampires, steampunk or prettymuch anything else, you'll find
a special deck designed aroundyour passion.
That has nothing to do withtarot rules and, because there's
no tradition for Oracle decks, there's no standard way to read
(02:17):
them.
So the question is withoutsomeone telling you, this is
exactly how you do it how do youdance with your new deck and
how do you choose from thedozens of decks out there?
Pull up a chair and grab yourteacup, my dears, I'm going to
give you four steps to use sothat you can flip your new cards
with confidence.
(02:38):
Number one listen for who'sasking you to dance.
Decks are as individual as thepeople who use them, and one
person's favorite deck isanother person's flea market
leavings.
So it's important to recognizewhat will zing your intuition
and encourage you to keeppracticing on a daily basis.
Before you go shopping for yournew divination partner, I want
(03:02):
you to close your eyes andimagine the perfect deck.
How does it feel in your hand?
Is the deck small and compactor large enough for lush
illustrations?
Are the colors saturated orpastel?
Is the deck in color at all ordo you see black and white?
Is the deck designed aroundtraditional artwork or
(03:25):
photographs or collages?
Who's in the deck?
Humans, animals, mythicalcreatures or something else?
Does it have major and minorgroupings or are all the cards
standalone?
Is the feel of the deck lightor dark?
Each of these questions willhelp you find a deck where you
(03:48):
can dive deep and come up withall kinds of interesting stories
for the future.
Fast forward you've goneshopping, you've looked and felt
and thought and weighed youroptions and you've chosen your
deck.
You've brought it home, brokenthrough the shrink wrap and
lifted the box cover.
You'll find your cards, a fewintroduction and about cards
(04:10):
telling you about the designer, the thoughts behind the deck and
a book.
Are you ready for a shock?
Put the book down and don'topen it.
So number two is don't read thebook first.
Make your introductions Now.
(04:30):
Mind you, I have nothingagainst instructional books I
don't.
But if you're trying to improveyour own ability to dig out
meanings and gifts in your deck, reading the book first might
stifle your imagination.
With tarot decks, it'sreasonable to learn the
traditional meanings of eachcard.
Years, decades, even centuriesof thought have gone into
(04:51):
interpretations.
But when it's a newly inventeddeck without a history, all
paths are open and your path canbe as individual as you are.
I want you to try talking tothe cards without the benefit of
other people's ideas.
Crack open your deck and fan itout.
Study the design on the backs, then turn them over so they all
(05:17):
face you eager to play.
Which cards draw you?
What groups do you see?
Do you want to read the cardsin order as the deck was
designed, or are there otherpatterns calling you?
Think about your deck and itsmakeup the way toddlers figure
out a new toy.
They turn it over, look inside, they shake it to see what sound
(05:40):
it makes, maybe even taste it.
Be as adventurous and curiousas they are.
Your particular insights arewhat will make this deck truly
yours.
And remember that expertreaders know that cards are a
world of their own.
Each deck is its own domain.
So now that you've entered yournew neighborhood, let's meet
(06:03):
the neighbors.
Number three, who lives there.
Traditional tarot decks arekind of like 1950s suburbia, but
instead of everyone having afront lawn and a picket fence
and a station wagon, everyonehas major arcana and minor
arcana and court cards and foursuits.
But that's not always the casewith oracle decks.
(06:23):
So check yours out.
Does it have another set ofdivisions, families or colors or
affiliations?
Look at the faces in theillustration, human or other,
and examine how creatures areplaced or how they present
themselves.
What personalities do you sensein each one?
(06:44):
Don't fall into the easy trap ofassuming characters are the
same as in a tarot deck.
Don't fall into the easy trapof assuming characters are the
same as in a tarot deck.
Instead, dive in.
Find out what's unique aboutyour deck's residents.
Divination decks are different.
That's what makes themdelicious.
So here you are in theneighborhood.
You've hung out for a littlewhile and said hello.
If you're like most people, there will be that certain
(07:08):
someone who will turn out to beyour best buddy.
Let's go pick out your deck'sBFF.
Number four is find a specificteacher card.
Again, break the rules.
In traditional tarot, you'reusually assigned a significator
court card by your gender, ageand or hair and eye color, but
(07:30):
to me, that ignores yourpreferences, your individuality
or those of the beings in yournew deck.
Face it, what good is beingassigned a card by hair and eye
color when your deck ispopulated with crystals or
aliens, or a bunch of bald guyswith sunglasses?
No, I haven't seen that lastone yet, but it's probably in
the pipeline, look.
(07:51):
Instead, I want you to let yourenergy sink into each card.
You'll feel a pull to one card, one image that feels like it
really wants to open up yourmind and vision.
That is your BFF for the deck.
Remember, the more energy wegive an idea, we bring it into
being as a thought form.
If there's one image, one being, that reaches out to you, sit
(08:15):
down with it and see what it hasto say.
You've now made your new Oracledeck distinctly yours.
Enjoy getting to know everybodywho lives there.
Spend some time exploring yournew surroundings and you'll find
it's a metaphysicalneighborhood where you feel
right at home.
(08:35):
