Spiritual deception often comes wrapped in the most appealing packages. Today we pull back the curtain on one of the most pervasive spiritual counterfeits infiltrating our culture and even Christian spaces: the New Age movement.

This spiritual smokescreen markets itself as light, love, and healing but actually leads people into darkness and occult practices. From yoga studios to children's cartoons, from wellness influencers to bestselling books, the New Age isn't always labeled, but it's always lurking. What makes it particularly dangerous is how it borrows Christian terminology while promoting fundamentally unbiblical beliefs.

The New Age isn't one religion but a spiritual buffet mixing elements of Hinduism, Buddhism, paganism, and witchcraft. Popular concepts like manifestation, energy healing, crystal work, and communicating with spirit guides might seem harmless or even beneficial, but they're rooted in divination and idolatry – practices explicitly forbidden in Scripture. Perhaps most concerning is "Christ consciousness," which sounds spiritual but teaches that Jesus wasn't the Son of God or our Savior, just an enlightened man who discovered divine truth. This flips the gospel on its head, promoting self-deification instead of salvation through Christ alone.

We're witnessing the normalization of mediums on reality shows, witchcraft in entertainment, and occult tools marketed as self-care essentials. The spiritual consequences are real, opening doors to demonic influence and bondage. Yet there's hope – many former New Age practitioners have found freedom in Christ and now warn others about these dangers. As believers, we must prioritize spiritual discernment, recognizing that no crystal, psychic, or spiritual download can ever replace Jesus Christ – the way, the truth, and the life. Join me as we learn to distinguish genuine spiritual light from its counterfeit versions.

Rebecca Twomey (00:31):
The Hello and welcome back to the Radiant
Mission Podcast.
My name is Rebecca Toomey, andso far in this series we have
talked about demons.
We have talked about spiritualwarfare, the Nephilim, astrology
and a lot more, but there isanother deception that we need

(00:52):
to address today, one that isbecoming so common that even
Christians are getting swept upinto it.
We are talking about the NewAge movement.
It's a spiritual smokescreen ofsorts that markets itself as

(01:12):
light, love and healing, but itis actually leading people into
darkness, idolatry and into theoccult, unfortunately, and the
hardest part is that it'severywhere, literally everywhere
, from yoga studios tochildren's cartoons, from

(01:37):
wellness influencers tobest-selling books, angel card
readings to Christian energyhealers.
The new age isn't alwayslabeled, but it is always
lurking.
You could walk into any big boxstore today and you're going to

(01:59):
find new age products marketedto children specifically, which
is crazy.
So today we are going to definewhat the new age really is.
We're going to explore how itborrows Christian language but
promotes unbiblical beliefs.
We're going to look at whythings like manifestation,
energy healing and spirit guidesare actually spiritually

(02:22):
dangerous, and I'd like to equipyou to recognize these
deceptions when they show up inyour life.
So let's dive in y'all.
First, we're going to start offwith the definition here.
What is the new age?
It is not one religion.

(02:43):
It's more like a spiritualbuffet of sorts, if you want to
think about it that way.
It mixes bits of Hinduism, buddhism, paganism, witchcraft
and mystical philosophies.
They all have this goal ofachieving a higher consciousness
or enlightenment.
And popular concepts in the newage are things like the law of

(03:06):
attraction or manifesting yourreality, chakra, energy or
crystal healing, spirit guidesand angel communication,
reincarnation and karma, astrology and birth charts and
mediumship and psychic abilities.
And while these may seemharmless or trendy, they are

(03:27):
rooted in divination, which wetalked about last episode with
astrology and we've discussedbefore on this podcast as well
in previous episodes.
It's really rooted in thisidolatry and the spiritism which
are all forbidden by God.
In scripture.
We are told in Deuteronomy 18,verses 10 through 12, there

(03:49):
shall not be found among youanyone who practices divination
or tells fortunes or interpretsomens or a sorcerer, for whoever
does these things is anabomination to the Lord.
And the problem is that the newage it's often rebranding in

(04:11):
this way of using soft, appealing language like tapping
into the universe or listeningto your higher self, or
connecting with divine feminineenergy, or healing your trauma
through sound baths.
These ideas sound peaceful andeven empowering, or even

(04:33):
positive, but they don't lead tothe Holy Spirit.
They lead to spiritualdeception.
Why are Christians falling forit?
Because this is one of thebiggest tactics that the enemy
is using to disguise himself aslight.
In 2 Corinthians 11 14, we aretold even Satan disguises

(04:58):
himself as an angel of light, and that's why the new age
beliefs are so seductive.
They're claiming to promotepeace and personal power,
empowerment, healing.
These are all things that wewant, right, these are all
things that we long for.
But what's even worse is thatmany people are wrapping the new
age beliefs and these new ageideas into Christian language.

(05:21):
So God wants you to manifestthe life of your dream, or Jesus
was the original energy healer,or your angels are waiting to
speak with you Just ask.
But the source of thesemessages is not the God of the
Bible.
They are spiritual counterfeitsand they invite people to
pursue spiritual experiencesapart from Christ.

(05:44):
And, just like the forbiddenknowledge given by the Nephilim
in the book of Enoch, new agepractices claim to give you
hidden wisdom as well, but theyultimately are drawing you away
from the truth, and one of thosetruths that I really want to
mention here is Christconsciousness.

(06:05):
It is a deceptive twist onJesus, you guys.
It is one of the more subtleand dangerous new age beliefs,
because it's making its way intoChristian spaces, and I have
been seeing it pop up a lot onsocial media lately, and it even
sounds spiritual right, becauseit's using the word Christian.
But don't be fooled by the name.

(06:32):
Christ consciousness teachesthat Jesus wasn't the son of God
or our savior, but rather anenlightened man who reached a
higher spiritual state, one thatwe can all reach to.
And, according to this belief, jesus didn't die for our sins.
He simply discovered divinetruth, and now we're all
supposed to follow his exampleby awakening our own inner

(06:56):
divinity.
Yeah, I'm gonna let that sinkin for a minute.
And this really is flipping thegospel on its head, because,
instead of repentance and faithin Jesus, it's promoting
self-discovery andself-defecation.
And instead of Jesus being theonly way, you are told that you
already have the power withinyou.

(07:17):
And instead of surrendering toGod, you are encouraged to
become your own God.
It's the original lie from thegarden In Genesis 3, 5, you will
be like God and now people arebeing told you are God.
The thing that's crazy to meabout Christ consciousness is

(07:39):
that they're stealing Jesus'name but denying his identity.
They're denying his mission andbut denying his identity,
they're denying his mission andthe truth of the gospel and that
, honestly, is not harmless.
It is a counterfeit spirit andit's designed to pull people
away from salvation.
So if you hear phrases likeJesus was just a great spiritual

(08:01):
leader, or just a greatspiritual teacher, or the Christ
is a state of being, not aperson, or we all have divine
potential if we just awaken toit, that is not true faith in
Jesus Christ, that is notChristianity, that is not being

(08:22):
a believer, that is notfollowing the way.
That is new age in disguise.
Let's talk a little bit moreabout some modern deceptions
mediums, witches and all that.
You might be surprised or youmight not, because I am not at
this point at just how much thenew age has influenced today's

(08:42):
culture.
Mediums are now celebrated onreality shows I see it
constantly all the time Showslike 90 Day Fiance, long Island
Medium, all these shows that arecoming up on any platform.
Really, I was going to mentionDiscovery Plus or TLC, but it's
been going on there for a whileand others.

(09:02):
Witchcraft is mainstream.
I mean, look at any Disney showor movie.
It has magic in it andwitchcraft and there are
trending TikToks spell kits thatare sold on Etsy and Walmart.
Pop stars are openlyidentifying as witches.
Tarot cards, crystals, astrology apps they're all

(09:23):
marketed as tools for self-careand it's not just acceptable,
now it is trendy.
People are literally puttingthat they are witchy or a witch
as their Instagram bio.
But the spiritual consequenceshere are real and people who
open themselves up to thesepractices are opening doors to

(09:44):
demonic influence and bondage.
Some may not realize it untilit is too late, but god can set
you and any of us free, sopraise god.
There have been many who havebeen rescued from this.
Last week, I mentioned folkslike Jen Niza and Doreen Virtue,

(10:05):
who were former psychics andNew Age teachers, and they gave
their life to Christ and they'renow warning the church not to
fall into these same traps.
There are many, many more likethis.
If you are looking to beinspired from others who have
broken free, please reach out tome.
Another new age deception thatwe actually did discuss on this

(10:27):
podcast previously is with yogaand Mama Madeline.
On Instagram she shared hertestimony.
So go back into the archivesfor that one, or simply shoot me
a message, I'll send you thatepisode.
But yeah, as we wrap up today,a couple of final thoughts.
Archives for that one.
Or simply shoot me a messageI'll send you that episode.
But yeah, as we wrap up today,a couple of final thoughts.

(10:48):
I just want to encourage you notto be deceived, because the new
age is going to encourage orpromote light, but it is
counterfeit light, and it saysthat you can find the truth
within yourself and that you aredivine, that the universe will
respond to your intentions.
But here's what Jesus says inJohn 14, 6, I am the way, the
truth and the life.
No one comes to the Fatherexcept through me.

(11:08):
There is one God, there is oneHoly Spirit and there is one way
to eternal life, and that isthrough Jesus Christ alone.
Himself.
No crystal, no psychic, nospiritual download will ever
replace the son of God, jesusChrist.
So, as we wrap up today, I havea few reflection questions.

(11:31):
Have I unknowingly embraced newage ideas in the name of peace
or self-growth?
Where do I seek guidance?
From God's word or fromspiritual experiences?
Where do I seek guidance fromgod's word or from spiritual
experiences, am I willing to letgo of anything that doesn't
align with scripture, even ifit's popular?
Let's be the people who lovespiritual truth more than trends

(11:51):
, and let's follow jesus thereal jesus, not energy, not
stars, not our higher selves andlet's walk in his spirit, not
counterfeit spirits, and let'spray for discernment in the age
of deception.
If you found this episodehelpful or interesting, please

(12:14):
be sure to share it with afriend.
Thank you so much for tuning in.

you can do so on Instagram atthe Radiant Mission, on Facebook
at the Radiant Mission Podcast,or on YouTube.
You can find it by searchingfor my name, rebecca Toomey,
t-w-o-m-e-y.
And today I'm going to closewith a verse that leaves a

(12:38):
little bit of a final warningfrom scripture and a call to
stay alert, and that is 1Timothy 4, verse 1.
Now the spirit expressly saysthat in later times, some will
depart from the faith bydevoting themselves to deceitful
spirits and teachings of demons.
On that note, I am wishing youa radiant week and I'll see you

(13:02):
next time.
Bye.
