Rebecca Twomey (00:33):
The Hello and
welcome back to Coffee Talk on
the Radiant Mission Podcast.
I'm your host, rebecca Twomey, and today we are diving into a
big question that comes up veryoften when did everything come
from?
For many, the answer is the BigBang or evolution.
(00:54):
These theories are taught asfact in school and they are also
pushed through media and theyare accepted by much of society.
But as believers, we reallyneed to pause and ask do these
ideas actually line up withGod's word and do they even make
(01:20):
sense scientifically?
I want to be very clear rightfrom the start I believe in
biblical creation, not evolution, and not the big bang plus God,
not theistic evolution.
So just want to clear that up.
(01:40):
That's the perspective that weare going to be diving into
today.
I believe God's word in Genesisthat it is true when it says
that he created the heavens andthe earth.
So let's unpack what that lookslike.
Let's explore the big bang andevolution and why I personally
(02:01):
don't think that they hold up,and why God as creator is
honestly the only answer thattruly makes sense.
So, starting from the beginning, first let's define even what
we're talking about the Big Bangor the Big Bang Theory.
It says that all matter andenergy in the universe came from
(02:24):
a single point, and they saythat it's around 13 to 14
billion years ago.
Now, let's be clear this haschanged and fluctuated according
to what they say, but currently, right now, this is what
they're saying that 13 to 14billion years ago, this point
exploded, rapidly, expandinginto the universe that we see
(02:45):
today.
And then evolution takes itfurther and it claims that life
came from non-life, thatsingle-celled organism somehow
developed through randommutations and natural selection
into the complex forms of lifethat we see now, including human
beings.
These theories, by the way, remove God from the picture.
(03:11):
They say that creation happenedby chance, not by design.
And here's the thing theseideas weren't always taught the
way that they are today, weren'talways taught the way that they
are today.
For much of America's history, schools actually taught a
biblical worldview.
(03:31):
You guys, prayer and Biblereading were a part of the
classroom, but in the early1960s court cases like Engle v
Vitale, which happened in 1962,and then Abington v Shemp or
Shememp however, you pronouncethat that was in 1963, they
removed prayer and scripturefrom public education.
(03:54):
Not long after that, evolutionstarted creeping in, and my
parents actually personallyremember this shift.
In the 1970s, schools beganpeppering this Darwin theory of
evolution into the curriculumand it wasn't yet the dominant
narrative, but it was beingintroduced and for my family
(04:16):
that was a big turning point andactually, if you listen to our
homeschool series or if youhaven't yet go back in the
homeschool series series, or ifyou haven't yet go back in the
homeschool series, my mom comeson to share a little bit more
about why she chose tohomeschool and I know that
curriculum and what washappening with curriculum was a
big decision back then.
Now think about curriculumtoday and how much has changed
(04:39):
and is changing.
And who's dictating curriculum?
Who's making these decisionschanging and who's dictating
curriculum?
Who's making these decisions?
It's not all cut and dry.
So, anyhow, my parents made thedecision to pull my oldest
brother out of public school andthey knew that what was going
on with the curriculum was aslippery slope at that time.
If you replace God's word withman's theories in the classroom,
(05:03):
you replace God's word withman's theories in the classroom.
What foundation are childrenleft with?
So let's fast forward to today.
Evolution is not just mainstream.
It is taught as fact and if youquestion it you are a freak and
there's something wrong withyou, which is probably what most
(05:23):
people listening to thisepisode are also going to think.
Students rarely hear that thereare scientists who reject it.
The Bible has been pushed outand in its place, these secular
theories like the Big Bang andevolution are being presented as
unquestionable truth.
I want to talk about why thesetheories don't make sense, but
(05:45):
then also to let you know thatthere are thousands upon
thousands of scientists who donot believe in evolution and who
are questioning these things,so we'll talk about that too.
Let's first look at the flaws inboth the Big Bang and evolution
for a second.
So first there's a logicalproblem Something from nothing.
(06:06):
Science shows matter and energycannot create themselves.
So where did the singularity ofthe Big Bang come from?
The next is order from chaos.
Explosions destroy and scatter.
They do not create finely tunedgalaxies, solar systems and
(06:31):
life.
And then next we have life fromnon-life Abiogenesis, which is
the idea that life just pops outof non-living matter.
That has never actually beenobserved.
And then the last area that Iwant to talk about that's a
logical problem is randommutations.
(06:52):
So mutations generally breakthings down, they don't build
them up.
We see disease and disorder now, not complex systems.
And that brings us now to somescientific problems.
There are a lot of scientificproblems, and I'll name a few of
them.
The fossil record gaps are abig one.
(07:17):
There are no true transitionalfossils.
We see distinct species, nothalf evolved creatures.
So that is not supported.
This idea of mutation.
And then entropy, the secondlaw of thermodynamics, shows
that systems move from order todisorder, which is the opposite
(07:37):
of what evolution requires.
The fine tuning of the universeand the constants of physics,
like gravity and the speed oflight.
They are so precise that even aslight variation would make
life impossible.
And that points to design, notchance.
(07:59):
And then, lastly, in this groupof scientific problems, is DNA
complexity.
Dna is like software code, beyond anything that humans can
design.
There is no scientificexplanation for it arising
randomly.
And that brings me toscientists who are rejecting
(08:20):
evolution and the Big Bang, because that is happening.
I think it's an exciting thingthat more and more scientists
are rejecting Darwin's theoryand they're questioning the Big
Bang.
And there is even a.
There are actually multipleresources and websites, but the
Institute for Creation Researchlays out the scientific case
against evolution and they pointout that Darwin's theory fails
(08:41):
to explain complexity, moralityand consciousness.
Modern science has revealedjust how flawed evolutionary
ideas really are.
And then there is the descentfrom Darwin.
It is a statement that issigned by over 1200 scientists
worldwide.
It includes biologists,chemists, mathematicians,
(09:03):
physicists, and they have allgone on record to say that they
are skeptical that randommutation and natural selection
can explain the complexity oflife.
Dr Douglas Axe, director ofBiologic Institute, and Maxwell,
visiting Professor of MolecularBiology at Biola University.
He has this quote Because noscientist can show how Darwin's
(09:35):
mechanism can produce thecomplexity of life.
Every scientist should beskeptical.
The fact that most won't admitto this exposes the unhealthy
effect of peer pressure onscientific discourse.
So think about that.
These aren't Christians thatare saying this.
These are scientists acrossdisciplines saying evolution
doesn't work, and yet schoolsand universities will present it
as settled fact.
(09:56):
So this is just a call todiscernment, and it is okay to
feel outraged, it is okay tofeel like, oh man, someone's
been lying to me, that happens.
But it is okay to also say letme question this a little bit,
let me look into this, let mesee if this makes sense before I
(10:19):
choose to believe a narrativethat is against God.
That said, let's talk about whatthe Bible teaches it is.
In contrast, the Bible isconsistent and clear.
In Genesis 1, we are told inthe beginning God created the
(10:39):
heavens and the earth.
Not a bang, not billions ofyears.
God is speaking creation intoexistence.
He doesn't say bang and theneverything appears all at the
same time either.
So you know, I know thatthere's the Christian evolution,
(11:00):
or whatever it's called outthere, but be careful.
Or whatever it's called outthere, but be careful.
In Hebrews 11, 3, it says byfaith, we understand that the
universe was formed at God'scommand, so that what is seen
was not made out of what wasvisible.
And Psalm 19, 1 reminds us theheavens declare the glory of God
(11:25):
.
The skies proclaim the work ofhis hands.
God is the uncaused cause, aswe've talked about in the
previous episode, the eternalcreator who exists outside of
time, unlike the Big Bang.
His existence explains whythere is something rather than
(11:48):
nothing.
Let's talk about why thismatters for our faith.
I always ask why, why, why, why?
Because if we compromise oncreation, we weaken the
foundation of our faith.
If Genesis isn't true, then whytrust the rest of the Bible?
We don't need to bend God withthe big bang or evolution to fit
(12:14):
with culture.
Man came up with this stuff.
God doesn't need help fromman's theories.
His word is sufficient andscience, when honestly examined
it, points right back to him.
So for our children and ourfuture generations, this is
vital.
They are growing up in a worldwhere deception is strong and we
(12:37):
must teach them that the Bibleis true and that science affirms
what God has already revealed.
All right, so the big one, heavy one, but succinct, right,
quick.
Let's talk about a fewreflection questions that I have
today for you to think about asyou're going through your day
(12:58):
and your week.
Do you believe science andfaith are opposed, or do you see
that they work together underGod's design?
How does knowing God createdeverything give you confidence
in his power, and what part ofcreation most shows you his
glory?
Listen, friends, do not beswayed by theories that leave
God out the big bang andevolution.
(13:19):
They honestly do not hold up.
But God's word stands foreverand ever and he created
everything with order andpurpose and design, and he
created you with a plan too.
Thank you so much for listeningto today's episode.

I'm going to close withColossians 1, verse 16.
For in him all things werecreated, things in heaven and on
earth, visible and invisible.
All things have been createdthrough him and for him.
