In this engaging episode of the Radio Coffee House, Clint Armitage broadcasts from Colton, California, diving into the intriguing topic of arrogance versus confidence. With a focus on the charismatic figure of Deion Sanders, also known as Coach Prime, Clint explores whether Sanders' bold demeanor stems from confidence or arrogance. Through a recent clip from the Tamron Hall Show, listeners will hear Sanders discuss his expectations for success and the importance of unwavering self-belief.

Clint notes how Sander's confidence can sometimes be perceived as arrogance. Sanders adds that this often happens particularly when it challenges the insecurities of others. However, Clint argues that what shines through in Sanders' words is a profound sense of "Godfidence," a confidence rooted in faith and a strong connection to God.

Transitioning from the sports world to biblical wisdom, Clint introduces the story of King Jehoshaphat from 2 Chronicles 20, who faced a vast army threatening his people. Jehoshaphat's response to fear—turning to God in prayer—serves as a powerful reminder of where true confidence lies. Clint emphasizes that while we may experience fear and anxiety, it's essential to seek God's guidance and trust in His plans.

As the episode unfolds, Clint encourages listeners to embrace their own Godfidence, reminding us that God calls us to show up for the battles in our lives, even when the odds seem stacked against us. Tune in to discover how to cultivate a mindset of confidence rooted in faith, allowing you to navigate life's challenges with grace and strength.

>> Clint Armitage (00:01):
Welcome m to another edition of the radio coffeeh house
show where Jesus meets coffee meets talk
radio. And the next one starts right
now.
How's it going, everybody? Clint armitage with the radio copy house. Thanks
for coming back and thanks for listening in. We're doing another
road show. This time I'm in colton,

(00:23):
California, and we'renna be talking about
arrogance versus confidence. And we're gonna
listen to someone who has some
both of those things and we'got to figure out which one it is and
then we'll talk about it more. And his name is coach
prime. It's deion sanders. He
seems arrogant, but is he just
confident or is it true arrogance? That's what

(00:46):
we're gonna try to figure out. So let's get into it and talk about
this.
All right, thanks for coming back, everybody. So like I said
in the intro, we're gonna be listening to Dion
sanders and what he has to say about confidence versus
arrogance. Now, this is a recent clip from
a show called the tamaron hall show. He was on the

(01:07):
show. She brought up some background on him,
and then he started talking about confidence and arrogance.
And let's find out because he's talking about himself
and how he does things.
And, uh, let's hear what he has to say because
is it confidence or is it arrogance?
All right, let's play it.

>> Speaker B (01:25):
Everywhere you've gone, you've left an impact. But did you
expect this impact?

>> Deion Sanders (01:30):
Yes.

>> Speaker B (01:31):
You did.

>> Deion Sanders (01:32):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I want.

>> Speaker B (01:34):
I mean, I'm asking. Aanda said he wanted so much money, had to put you on
layaway. So I don't know why I'm surprised.

>> Deion Sanders (01:39):
I don'tn to sound brash of the risk,
uh, of, uh, tipping this with arrogance.
But I expect the best, right?
I don't expect leftovers. I expect the
best. I don't expect to come
second. I expect to come in
first. I don't expect the halfway do nothing. I do it all the
way. Everything that I'm involved in

(02:01):
and even products I endorse, I give it 100%. And I don't
put my name on it unless I stand by it. So
everything in life I expect when I walked out
here to turn to change the drn temperature, I expect that.
Like, like, like I do. This is
no chance. I don't do nothing. By chance,
by happenstance, like, everywhere I go,

(02:22):
I'm ordained. Like, I supposed to be
there.

>> Speaker B (02:26):
Like, I. I'm
curious
because you said something about
brash tipping into arrogance.

>> Deion Sanders (02:35):
Yeah.

>> Speaker B (02:36):
Why is that even on your mom?

>> Deion Sanders (02:38):
Cause My confidence offends your insecurity.
Because when you re insecure and you see a
young brother. And I'm still young. When you see a
young brother doing his thing unapologetically
and he's not using profanity, he's not drinking, he's not
smoking, he's not doing nothing outside of the

(03:00):
boundaries, he's just being a great father
in blessing young men and just giving them the
navigational systems to life that's
threatening some type of way.
And he don't need you for nothing.

>> Speaker B (03:13):
Like, because you've been so under that definition since the
day you were drafted.

>> Deion Sanders (03:18):
Mm hmm.

>> Speaker B (03:18):
You were intimidating to some.

>> Deion Sanders (03:20):
True.

>> Speaker B (03:21):
And all of these years later,
still you. Still.

>> Clint Armitage (03:26):
Still.

>> Deion Sanders (03:27):
But do you know why?

>> Speaker B (03:28):
But do you care?

>> Clint Armitage (03:29):
No.

>> Deion Sanders (03:32):
And I've said this, your opinion to me, ain't got nothing to do with the opinion
of myself.
Inna take you to a quote.

>> Speaker B (03:40):
So at your first press conference when
you took over the job, uh, in Colorado, you
said, my calling is not built on a location,
it is built on a destination. The Bible
says God uses the foolish things to
confound the wise. And he always taking me
to unlikely place.

>> Deion Sanders (03:58):
It. Yeah. Yeah.

>> Speaker B (04:01):
Why was that? Why was that an
unlikely place for you?

>> Deion Sanders (04:05):
Because it don't seem right. When I went to Jackson,
Mississippi, no one saw that coming. I didn't
even see that coming. I didn't even know what Jackson was.
And I got there and I said, wow. So, Lord, this
it?

>> Speaker B (04:18):
No.

>> Deion Sanders (04:18):
So this is what you got. Okay, let's go. But
I did the same thing with a youth program in
Texas where we had a child in. The first child we had
was 1200 kids. I remember it was nothing. Turned it
into something. We did charter schools. Nothing to turn it into something. So
everything that God has taken me has been nothing and turned into
something because God hands his own. Okay.
So.

>> Speaker B (04:41):
As I said, John Jackson, Michael Vick,
all now head coaches at HBCUs, you have
conquered that now. You've conquered, um, the
territory in Colorado. Has God told you
it's time to go to the NFL?

>> Deion Sanders (04:54):
No, not yet. Not yet. Um, not yet.
Not whatsoever. I love.

>> Speaker B (04:58):
So you have no interest in coaching NFL right now?

>> Deion Sanders (05:01):
I'm gonna get there. Let me get there.

>> Clint Armitage (05:02):
Let me get there.

>> Deion Sanders (05:04):
Let me get there. You gotta understand, I'm a father.

>> Speaker B (05:07):
Yeah.

>> Deion Sanders (05:07):
And I love my babies. Um, Shador is on vacation
right now. Shallow as well. Junior is here with
me. But we haven't had that
conversation.

>> Speaker B (05:16):
Really. Uh, because they're both leaving.

>> Deion Sanders (05:18):
You're right. Right.

>> Speaker B (05:18):
They're both about to go into their next journey.

>> Deion Sanders (05:21):
Elevating.

>> Speaker B (05:21):
They're elev.

>> Clint Armitage (05:22):
You.

>> Speaker B (05:22):
You see, you'emotional about there because you won't be coaching
them.

>> Deion Sanders (05:25):
Yeah. And that's tough. That's tough.

>> Speaker B (05:28):
But you could be coaching them in the NFL if you follow.

>> Deion Sanders (05:31):
If I want to. But I don't
feel like I'm called at this point to that. I
have not heard from God on that, and I don't
believe you.
The reason. The
reason I'm somewhat successful in the things I
do, because I hear his voice, and

(05:52):
I follow his voice, and I don't care what nobody
says. When I hear his voice, I
go. And I'm not timid.
I'm not reluctant. I go with everything
I got, and unapologetically, I'm gonna
be me. God did not tell me to stop being me.
He's told me to stop doing the things that
disconnected me from him.

>> Clint Armitage (06:13):
Okay, so you heard what he said. He laid it all out there.
And now what's your take on that? I can tell you what my
take is. My take is he is
super confident, not only in himself,
but also in the Lord. Now,
maybe in the younger years, there was some arrogance
attached to that. However, as I hear him speak

(06:33):
nowadays as Coach Prime,
I hear a lot of God
confidence. Or, uh, I heard someone say.
Someone call it Godfidence. I've
heard a lot of Godfidence coming from
Dion, and not so much
arrogance, because listen to what he says and
how he says it. He always brings in the

(06:55):
Lord. He's confident about it, but he's
confident because he said the Lord had told him
to go, and he goes. And
the Lord has given him the battle,
giving him the win. And so he has this
mindset of, hey, the Lord's with me.
No one can be against me. And that

(07:16):
is awesome. Like, that's not
how everybody thinks. Right? There's a lot of doubt, and there's a lot of
fear in people. And then
it takes a change of mindset to get to
a place like that, of just strong
God confidence. He has confidence in himself, and he
has confidence in God. And now it seems like he's really

(07:36):
connected to God, and he is laying it out there, doing the best
he can with God's help, knowing or
expecting a, uh, win, because God is with
him now. He's had some troubles in his life.
However, he has come out on top in a lot
of different areas. Every time he's on
some type of sports team, he's a winner,
Right? And so it shows

(07:58):
his Confidence and that God is with him.
And, uh, I'm not saying that God's onlynna be
with people that are winners. What I'm saying is
that he has the confidence in his God to
provide the win wherever he thinks God is
calling him. And that's the same for us.
Like, if God is calling you to
something, it's a win no matter

(08:20):
what. And following through, that's the part where we
have to m move past all the fear and the doubt
and all the negative mindset. We have to m move
past the negative thinking that can hinder us to do what
God's will is for our lives.
And so what I want to talk about today is someone in the
Bible who actually has fear and
has this anxiety going on because

(08:43):
it's a battle that's coming against him. Three, uh,
armies or this vast army made up of three different
peoples coming against him and his people,
the people of Judah. And he has
to make a decision. Do I roll over or
do I fight? And what he does, because he's so scared, he
actually prays to the Lord for the battle. And

(09:03):
then the Lord tells him exactly what to do. And his name
is King Jehoshaphat. So let's talk about him for a second
here. Second Chronicles, chapter 20. And this is
where the battle is going to ensue. So
Jehoshaphat and Judah are going to be
attacked by the Moabites, the Ammonites, and
some Menuites. They're coming up to attack

(09:23):
them, and they're. They're coming now. And
so Jehoshaphat hears about it and he
is afraid. So what does he do?
He does what we should be doing every single
time. Because unless we have this God
confidence all the time, like it appears
Deion Sanders has this God confidence all the time. But
we know as humans, we don't always have the

(09:46):
confidence. He comes across that way every time, because every time he's
in front of the camera not saying he is afraid of
things. But what I am saying is we're humans.
So there is things that are going to test our
fear and our anxiety. And then we have to put it back on
God to say, God help me, Lord.
God help me, strengthen me,
encourage me. Give me the power, give me the

(10:08):
strength. Give me the authority. We need
to do that. And so Jehoshaphat is in that
position. He's fearful. He's like, we are going
toa get taken down. He also admits that he can't do it.
He admits that he cannot take this army on. So
he gives it up to God. And this is what happens.
Chapter 20, verse 1. After this,

(10:29):
the Moabites, Ammonites, with some of the
Meunites, came to make war on
Jehoshaphat. Some men came
and told Jehoshaphat, a vast army is coming against
you from Edom, from the other side of the sea. It
is already in In Geti. Alarmed,
Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the Lord.
And he proclaimed a fast for all Judah.

(10:50):
The people of Judah came together to seek help from the Lord.
Indeed, they came from every town in Judah to seek
him. Then Jehoshaphat stood up in the
assembly of Judah and Jerusalem at the temple of the
Lord in front of the new courtyard and said, o
Lord, God of our fathers, are you not the God who is in
heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the
nations. Power and might are in your hand, and,

(11:13):
uh, no one can withstand you. O our God.
Did you not drive out the inhabitants of the land before your
people Israel, to give it forever to the
descendants of Abraham, your friend? They have lived in it
and have built in it a sanctuary for your name,
saying, if calamity comes upon us, whether the
sword of judgment or plague or famine, we will stand

(11:33):
in your presence before the temple that bears your
name and will cry out to you in our
distress. And you will hear us and save
us, man. Powerful prayer, right? Pretty darn strong
prayer. So Jehoshaphat is fearful. All the people
are fearful. So they come together. But they know what to do.
They go to God because they know that's where the power
comes from and that's where the confidence comes from. So,

(11:56):
of course they go to God. And then they pray to them, and they say, lord,
you are God. You brought us here. We built up our
stuff here because you gave us this
place. So they're giving it back to God, saying, help us
protect it. And then a prophet comes and tells Jehoshaphat this. He
says, um, in verse 15, chapter 20, verse
15, he says this. Listen, King Jehoshaphat and

(12:17):
all who live in Judah and Jerusalem. This is what the Lord
says to you. Do not be afraid or discouraged
because of this vast army, for the battle is
not yours, but gods
tomorrow march down against them. They will be
climbing up by the pass of Ziz. And you will find
them at the end of the gorge in the desert of

(12:37):
Jerl. You will not have to fight this battle.
Take up your positions, stand firm and see the
deliverance the Lord will give you. O Judah and
Jerusalem. Do not be afraid. Do not be
Discouraged, Go out and face them tomorrow and the
Lord will be with you. Wow.
So that's an awesome prophecy from the Lord

(12:58):
that the prophet gave to them. And so they
did that. See, so there's, there's something to talk
about right there. If we don't have this confidence that we need to
get into this battle that we're going to be
entering, right? Or this job we're go goingna be
intervening for, or our, uh,
financial situations in dire straits,

(13:18):
whatever the issue is, whatever the battle is
that you have to enter, we have to
look for our confidence in the Lord.
If we can look for our confidence in the Lord because He
says he will never leave us or forsake us. He says he will
provide for us. He is the provider, right? Jehovah
Jah. So we have to know that God

(13:39):
is going toa come through. We have to put away our fear and
anxiety and our mistrust
and actually trust that the Lord is going to come through.
And so Jehoshaphat does that here by praying. He
has all this fear and anxiety, but he prays.
And then the Lord answers his prayer with a prophecy that says,
hey, I want you to be there. I want you to set up for

(14:00):
battle, but you're notnna fight. The
Lord is going before them and fighting, which is what
happens. So how do we translate to us for
today? Well, it's just like this.
Even though the Lord is going to provide, and even though
the Lord is going to fight for us and get ahead of us
in battle, we still have to show up for that

(14:20):
battle. That's why he still allows things
to happen, because we still have to show up. We can't
cower down. Even though we're fearful, even though we're
scared, we still have to step up to the
plate in order to hit that ball out of the park.
God will provide, uh, what is needed, but we have
to show up as well.
We have to meet him there where he tells us to meet him. And so

(14:41):
that's what Jehosaphat did. And this is the end result of that.
Okay, one last thing before Jehosaph Fat
actually gets there, he's moving his
people towards the battle. Okay. They're heading to where
the Lord tells him to go. So there's one thing that he does,
though, that's interesting. So I want to mention that it starts in verse
20. It says early in the morning they left for the

(15:02):
desert of Tkoa and they set out.
Jehoshaphat stood and said, listen to me,
Judah, and the people of Jerusalem. Have faith in the
Lord your God, and you will be upheld.
Have faith in the prophets, and you'll be successful. After
consulting with the people, Jehoshaphat appointed them to
sing to the Lord and to praise him for the
splendor of his holiness as they went out

(15:24):
at the head of the army, saying, give
thanks to the Lord, for his love endures forever.
Now, verse 22 says this. As they begin
to sing and praise the Lord, set ambushes
against the men of Ammon and
Moab and Mount Seir
who were invading Judah. And they
were defeated. The men of

(15:47):
Amon and Moab rose up against the men
from Mount Seer to destroy and annihilate
them. And after they finished slaughtering the
men from Mount Sr, they helped to destroy
one another. When the men of Judah came
to the place that overlooks the desert and looked toward the vast
army, they saw only dead bodies lying around on the

(16:07):
ground, and no one had escaped.
So Jehoshaphat and his men went to
carry off their plunder, and they found among them a
great amount of equipment, clothing, and
also articles of value, more than that they could
even take away. There was so much plunder that it took three
days to collect it. And on the fourth day, they assembled in the
Valley of Bericah, where they praised the

(16:29):
Lord. This is why it is called the Valley
of Beica to this day. Am Beica means praise.
Okay? So he, even though he's fearful, even though he has
anxiety, he prays to the Lord, has everybody fast
and pray, and then the Lord sends them the profit,
gives them the info. Hey, you got to show up for this battle, but you
don't have to do anything. I'll take care of it. So they go,

(16:50):
and then they get there and they find out all the
other armies attacked each other, killed every single one of
them. So then when his army showed up,
all they were there to see was all the dead bodies and all
the plunder. And so they were able to collect all
the plunder, and it took him three days to collect it all.
And then on the fourth day, you see, what he did is

(17:10):
he praised the Lord. He gave thanksgiving to the
Lord on the fourth day after it was all
over. So that the thing that we can learn here with Deion Sanders
is I think
there's more God confidence in him than
arrogance. Now, that was probably different when he was younger,
but now I really think he's, uh, confident in the

(17:31):
Lord, and he's a lot closer with the Lord.
And he waits for the Lord. And then when he has
a chance to speak about it.
He always brings up the Lord and
he acknowledges that it's the Lord that's doing it and
he's following the Lord and that's where he gains his
confidence. So I don't think it's arrogance. I think it's
confidence. And now with Jehoshaphat,

(17:54):
because he didn't have confidence,
he put it on the Lord as well. And
then the Lord provided. So when we're talking about
arrogance versus confidence, I think you can be
super, super confident in the Lord knowing
that if he has called you to it, then do it. Go for it.
Don't be afraid. Just go for it. Um, no matter

(18:15):
what he's calling you to, it may seem like a bad
idea, but if you've prayed about it and the Lord has
brought you to it and you've got some counsel about
it, but you really feel that God is leading
you this way into that battle, no matter
how the odds look, then it's time to
go. It's time to go. You gotta have your God
confidence and do it. Don't

(18:38):
allow fear, doubt,
or the devil to get in your way and talk you out of
your blessing that the Lord is going to give
you for your obedience.
Remember, he wants obedience more than
sacrifice. That's what the Bible tells us.
So we need to obey the Lord and get his blessing,
not doing it for the blessing. We are blessed when

(19:00):
we obey. All right, so that's my
take on arrogance versus
confidence and how to gain that confidence, that
God confidence. Until next time, my name is Clint Armitage. This
