>> Clint Armitage (00:01):
Welcome M to another edition of the Radio Coffeeh House
show where Jesus meets coffee meets talk
radio. And the next one starts right
now.
Hey, how's it going everybody? Clint Armitage with the Radio Coffee House.
Thanks for coming back and thanks for listening
in again. Doing another roadshow. And I'm
(00:23):
on a hillside called Jensen's
Peak and so you may be able to hear
some crickets and stuff going off right now. But it's a
beautiful night out here. I mean the view is awesome.
I'm literally looking over a valley
and looking on all the lights in the valley
from the top of this hill. It has a great view.
(00:43):
I uh, saw the sunset. The sunset was awesome. So this
is an awesome roadshow and we got a
good topic. Actually it's a great topic. We're
going gangster on this topic. We're going toa be listening to a guy
by the name of Johnny Chang. He is actually a former
gangster and he talks about our thoughts
and I've mentioned thoughts before and how we can't trust
(01:03):
our thoughts. Well, he brings it up as well and he's going to
talk about our thoughts and not trusting our thoughts, but
trusting God. So it's a great audio clip. The other thing
he talks about in this audio clip is our
identity. Where does our identity lie? And he
mixes it in with the story
of Jesus turning water into wine. And I
(01:24):
thought, man, that's pretty cool. So that's why I wanted to
play it here so that you can hear what he said. And then we're going
to break it down even more about our
identity and the thoughts that we have and what
God really thinks about us. So are you ready to do this?
Let's get it done.
>> Johnny Chang (01:43):
The issue is people trust their thoughts above the word of
God, right? John 16, verse 9 tells us very
clearly that unbelief is sin, right
of sin. Because they don't believe in me. Well, believing in Jesus,
not just knowing about him is believing exactly what sister
was saying. What he did for us, us, right, uh, he perfected
us, made us righteous, made us holy. And that's
something that people struggle with because they're trusting their thoughts and
(02:06):
what they see, not walking by faith. So a lot of
the times people live this happy, sad lifestyle, this up and down
lifestyle, serving ministry for tens, twenties, thirties, you
know, years. And it's because they're focusing on what they
see. And our eyes are obviously deceitful, our heart
is deceitful. So any feeling that they have,
right, Anything that they look with their own eyes,
(02:26):
observing it causes them to live this roller coaster
lifestyle. And that's why they're saying, I can't be. I'm not
worthy. Well, our job is not to look at ourselves, but
to only be in the scripture, only look at
what God is saying about us. And he shows
us beautifully. In the first miracle with the wedding at
Kena, right, when they look at it, it's water, right? Six
(02:47):
water pots. Touch it, it water, taste it, it water, smell at
is water. But Jesus says it's wine. What he's
teaching them is actively metanoia, which
is repentance, distrusting your thoughts, going
above your mind, transcending your mind back to the
word of God. So Jesus says, it's wine. We look at
it, it's water. Likewise, Jesus says, I made you righteous. I
(03:07):
died for everything. No, but I'm still a sinner. When
we focus on ourselves in this way, that's when
we're able to kind of really fall short and
not experience the true love and the blessing from God.
And this is what I noticed with a lot of people
who come and say, I gotta stop my sins. Well, God already
crucified everything. 2 Corinthians 5:17
(03:27):
says, you're a new creature. It doesn't say, you're being made a new
creature, you are. So either you're a new creature
or you're gonna trust your thoughts. And if you trust your thoughts in
what you see, you will fail. But if you trust the word of
God, that never changes. And you can continuously
move forward with that identity. Oh, I'm perfected through Jesus. I
don't have to trust my thoughts. The world tells me to trust
(03:47):
my thoughts. Follow my heart. God says, lean not on your own
understanding. Your heart is deceitful above all things. So
which one am I going to trust? Either trust the word of God
or trust my feelings. And that's kind of what I've noticed,
at least in my experience, of why people continuously fall
short, feel that condemnation which they think is
conviction. Two different things. Matthew
12:37 tells us, you know, by the fruit of your lips, you shall
(04:10):
be justified. By the fruit of your lips, you shall be condemned.
The reason why Adam, God
had Adam named the animals was not because
God was tired, he could have named the animals himself. What he
was teaching Adam was that there's power in your tongue,
right? So if you're sitting there and you're saying, you know it's
a rhinoceros, know it's a hippo,
whatever, so shall it be is what
(04:33):
you know. God was Teaching Adam. But
it's in the same stroke if I say that I'm a sinner and
nothing's gonna work out. I'm depressed, I'm lonely, uh, I have
anxiety. What I'm doing is I'm giving that
power, right? And it's leading me and dragging me
according to what I say. But if I sit there and I say, although
I sinned, God has washed my sin, I can
continuously move forward boldly and meet him at the
(04:55):
throne of grace, at the throne of mercy, then
it gives us this type of confidence
to move forward with. It's not a prideful
ego thing. It's God. I'm assuming my identity because
you gave me your identity. You gave me your
crown, you gave me literally everything that I
need, even your cross. You gave it to me because I was crucified on
(05:15):
that cross with you. Right? So
it's very important to understand that what
we say, our heart is gonna follow that as
well. Amen. Right? There is power in that tongue. Um, when I
thought I was a gang member, that's how I moved. Oh, I
got shot. I've been stabbed. I'm just gonna be a
prisoner, you know, for the rest of my life.
I'm a two strike felon. And when
(05:38):
I followed that mindset and I trusted that, yeah, I'm a gang
member, I'm no good. Like, I'm gonna just do whatever I want.
I lived in that depression. But when I heard the
gospel through Hebrews 10, 14, 4 by one
offering, he had perfected forever them that are
sanctified. Perfected is in past tense. Forever is
eternally meaning. Jesus did everything. He didn't
fail. So I was able to assume that, wow, I
(06:00):
need to stop trusting Johnny Chang in his thoughts. I need to start
trusting the word of God. And the more I did that, I
started to read the Bible, I started to really know God. And it was
much different than me trusting in myself.
>> Clint Armitage (06:12):
Okay, so that was an awesome clip, right?
Totally awesome thoughts that he was able to express to
us here so we can listen in and find out how God
thinks about us, like our identity and then also how
our thoughts can betray us. And so he totally
had a good point there. And he supported it with scripture and he
was just throwing out, uh, the scripture, which is really cool.
So I want to break that stuff down even more because
(06:34):
it's a topic that continuously brings us
down. It drags us day in and day
out. The thoughts that we have about ourselves
are always trying to bring us down. And what's
funny is God has already told us what
he thinks about us, and he's already told us how he
loves us and cares about us. And we just have to
(06:54):
trust that God knows what he's doing over our
own thoughts. So one of the things that we have to
understand is that whatever we say to
ourselves matters. So however you
talk to yourself every single day, it means
something. Now, you can be negative about it, or you can be
positive about it. Like Johnny was talking about.
He said, I thought I was a gangster. I
(07:17):
believed I was a gangster. So I moved like
one. So that'that's it right there. I mean, that's the
bottom line of it all. Who we think we are is
what we are or what we will become. Now, if
we think about it in God's way, then we're a child of
God. We're a child of promise. We're a child of
destiny. We can do all things through Christ who
(07:37):
strengthens us. But if we start to think, I can't do
this. Oh, I'm not good enough, oh, I'm gonna listen to what
people say about me. Then we drag ourselves,
and then we keep ourselves down, and everything we
want to be and everything we want to be in Christ
gets held back, gets hindered, gets
blocked by our own thoughts. And
(07:57):
so we have to stop thinking, uh, about
ourselves as less than or
not enough. We have to start thinking about
ourselves with an identity that's attached
to Christ. And remember, Christ is king.
He's the Lord of lords, the King of kings. So
if that's the case, then we give so much more
going for us that we could ever want.
(08:19):
There's more to us than we could ever
imagine. As long as we
start putting our faith and our
identity in Christ, nothing can stop us.
Whatever God wants for us, that's what it's going to be.
But we have to believe that. We have to have faith in that. We
have to trust God in it. Okay? So
whatever you're going to say to yourself every day should
(08:42):
be the way God would say things to you. So
that's how you should talk to yourself. You should talk to yourself
like God talks to you. Whatever he says about you is
how you should be talking about yourself. Because
whatever you believe, whether it's someone else or your own
words or your own thoughts about yourself, is
going to make you, uh, struggle. It's going to hold you
(09:02):
back from your true potential in God. But
if you root yourself in what God believes
and what God knows and his identity,
then you're going to be able to shape your life in the
positive. You're going to be able to live a
life free of all these
anchors, all these rocks, all these boulders that
you feel like you're pulling every day,
(09:24):
like you're strapped to this ball and
chain. If you want to get rid of that, you
have to get rid of your thinking and rely on what Jesus
said and what Jesus did. So you got to be able to
see yourself as he sees you, right? Because it's
going to change everything you do. So what can we do about
that? Well, we have to identify. We have to figure out,
okay, what's the lies that I tell myself,
(09:47):
okay? Because our words and our actions are going to affect
how we do things, how we move. Like Johnny said.
He said, I thought it was a gangster. I believed I was gangster, and
that's how I moved. Well, what do you say to yourself?
Do you say you're less than? Do you say you're not good
enough? Then that's how you're going to move. But forget that.
Let's start moving the way God wants us to move,
(10:08):
the way God believes in us. We need to move
like nothing can stop us. Like we're unstoppable
because he has a plan for us. And if he has given us a
plan and he has given us the opportunity and the
abilities and the experience and everything we
need to be able to do what he wants us to do,
then nothing can stop us. That literally makes us
(10:28):
unstoppable. You realize that if you're
supposed to live until a certain date, like if he wants you
to live to a certain time, you're going to live until that certain
time. Why? Because there's something he
has called you to. There's a purpose in
it. There's a reason why you're on this
earth. And that purpose is something you need to
find out. God will let you know what it is. You'll get
(10:51):
hints. You'll get understanding from your abilities,
from your passions. But remember, God has to
give you the plan. So you need to speak to him to find
out what that plan is. Be still. Know that He's
God. Pray to him. Listen to him, and
just sit. Let him lead you. Let
him open the door. He's going to light up your
path. He's the lamp onto your feet, like Psalm
(11:14):
119 says. So make sure your
words and your actions actually
follow what Jesus says about you, what the
Bible says about you, the way God feels about
you. Your words and actions should follow that.
If you think about it, you could think right now, all the lies you
told yourself today, or somebody has told you some
lies today about yourself, and it's not true.
(11:36):
So replace that with the truth, all right?
Another thing. Declare this stuff. Really, it
has to be about speaking it. Remember, like Johnny Chang
said, He said that in Cana, everybody's looking at the
six containers, right? And those containers were filled with
water. But that's all they could see. They could not
see past that. Meaning no one in the
world. No one. I don't care who you put in that room with
(11:59):
Jesus that day. When they look down into the
containers, all they saw was water. That's all
they believed it was going to be in the
future. See why? Because that's all they see.
They're trusting their own thoughts. They're not trusting
what God can do. They have no idea what God can do. We
have no idea what God can do. Now, this is the thing. He'll tell
you things about yourself. Like Gideon when he told
(12:21):
Gon he was a warrior. How did he
know Gideon was going to be a warrior? Because God knows
the future. And then what did Gideon do?
Gideon, later on, he stepped
into his identity as a warrior, a warrior of
God. And so, like in this case here with the water and the wine,
all the people, the servants, you know, the people
that were filling up the containers with water, all they
(12:44):
could ever see was water. They would never
think anything else other than that's going to be water.
It's always going to be water. It's never going to change. It's going to
stay water. But what did Jesus have in
mind? He had in mind something else. He
knew the outcome. He knew with
him involved, it's going to turn into wine. And
(13:04):
what that wine is going to do is that wine is going
to be a blessing to the bride and groom. It's going to be a
blessing to the bride and groom's family. It's going to be a blessing to
the people in the party, and it's going to be a blessing
to the whole party itself. And it's going to be a blessing
to us as we read one of God's miracles.
So how could Jesus. What was Jesus doing? Well, one
(13:25):
thing, like Chang was saying is he knew
what it was going to be. It was going to be wine. Because he sees
wine. He sees the potential. He
sees what we truly are to be, which is
our future self, what we become in God.
All we see is the water. But Jesus, he saw the
wine. He saw the miracle that was going to happen.
That's what we have to start declaring. We
(13:47):
declare that God's truth is the truth. We
declare that God only knows our
future. Are you enough? Are you a child
of God? Look up John 1, 12
and 13. You'll find out. Are you his
beloved? Does God love you? Well,
find out. Look at 1 John 3:1.
(14:08):
Can anything separate you from the love of
God? Can anyone take you out of the hand of
God? Nope. You can't ever separate God's love. How
do I know? Look it up. Romans 8,
38 and 39. As you continue to read
your Bible, read the Word of God,
you'll continue to find out how much God really does
(14:28):
love you, how many plans God really does
have for you and all the good things
that are waiting for you
when you're ready to step into the
identity and the path and
the destiny that God has planned for you.
Right now, those of you that are listening have
(14:48):
a dream. Right now, those of you that are listening
have doubts about your dream. You don't know how
you're ever going to get there. You can't even fathom how it can
be. Now think about that. Whose thoughts are telling
you that you cannot reach your dream? Is it your
thoughts or is it God's thoughts? Because if God put
that dream in your heart, if he put that passion,
that desire, that skill set, if he did
(15:11):
that, then it's possible. And the only one that's going to hold it
back from coming to fruition is you. You
and your thoughts. So you need to get rid of those thoughts and
replace them with God's thoughts. Then you're going to step
into your destiny. You're going to step into this path for your
purpose. You're going to start listening and
engaging in your calling. God has something
(15:32):
unique that is only for you. He has a
specific calling. It may be multiple missions, but he
has a specific thing that he wants you to do
specifically. And he has dropped that seed in your heart.
And it's tugging on your heart. But you've
always had trouble moving forward in it
because you doubted it, because you feared it, because
you're anxious about it, because you don't know how it's going to happen. But
(15:55):
you have to stop thinking about how you
are going to do it. You have to lift it up, give it to
God, and then just allow God to
lead you to it. You have to give it up to Him. And then you're going
to start noticing. When you are following
God's lead in it, things will start to open
up. You'll start to see a way you'll start to
(16:15):
see steps and a path in that
direction. Again, you may not be able to see everything
from here to there, from the start to the finish.
But God will open up little paths.
Like think of a cobblestone street. You'll start seeing one
cobblestone, two cobblestones, three cobblestones.
You'll start to be able to see these little stones,
(16:35):
those stepping stones that you're supposed to go
on in order to get down the path. Now, again,
you may not see it all the way, but he's going to
start lighting up your path one step at a
time. We need to have it that way because it
strengthens our faith, it creates our
identity that we're supposed to become. And that's
the step by step process. But it will only happen
(16:58):
if we are led by God. If we understand
what God is telling us by being quiet and
listening to him, reading His Word, understanding
what he thinks about us, how he believes in
us. And then we have to start getting rid of all that negative
talk, the talk that we give ourselves, the
talk that other people give us. Get rid of that. Focus on
(17:18):
God's word, God's word about us, God's word about our
life, God's word about our destiny. And then start
stepping into it. Remember, God is working all around
us. He's working all around you right now, where you
live, where you work, where you play. All you have to
do is stay quiet for a minute and just say,
lord, how can I play? How can I be
(17:38):
a part of what you're doing around me? Show me, Lord, and I
will do it. You start doing that, you're going to start seeing
miracles around you. You're going to start seeing
doors open around you and a path opening up.
And then you have to start stepping into it. And
then don't start writing it off as coincidence.
No. Because what you ask specifically for, God will give
(17:58):
you as long as it's in his will for you.
The Bible makes that clear. Ask, seek,
knock. So I hope this really
spoke to someone today. Because those of you who are holding
yourself back from what God has for you now, you know
a practical way to get it done. Replace those lies
with the truth. Believe and trust the way God feels
(18:18):
about you and what he wants to do with you. Start
stepping into your purpose in your calling. Another great show.
Thanks for coming back. Thanks for listening in. My name
is Clint Armitage. This was the Radio Coffee House.
And until next time, stay safe and God bless.
(18:40):
Thanks for joining, uh, us for another episode of the Radio Coffee
House show where we're all about Jesus, coffee and
radio. We'll see you next time.
