The raw passion of pursuing music against all odds takes center stage as Bo Brummel joins Tiffany Foy in her "she shed" for a candid, laughter-filled conversation that traces his unlikely path to Texas stages.

Bo pulls back the curtain on his musical journey that began at age five singing in church, influenced by a grandfather who played piano and briefly performed in bands. With disarming honesty, he recounts the crossroads where he abandoned thoughts of baseball and law school to follow his musical calling, despite coming from East Texas towns where "it's not a place that encourages dreamers." The financial struggles of his early career – sometimes down to "ten dollars to my name and one pack of ramen noodles" – reveal the sacrifice behind the spotlight.

The conversation shifts to the formation of Timber Wilde with Garrett Mann, a musical partnership that blossomed from casual jam sessions to recording original music. Bo shares the surprising story behind their current single "Bones," inspired by watching his 13-year-old French Bulldog Daphne sleeping with her toys. This moment of everyday observation transformed into songwriting magic as he composed most of the track in just an hour – though he admits needing Garrett's help to figure out how to play what he'd written.

Listeners are treated to a glimpse of the vibrant New Braunfels music scene, where artists regularly join each other onstage spontaneously, creating unexpected musical moments. The episode culminates with Bo performing an acoustic version of "Bones," showcasing his distinctive raspy vocals that Tiffany playfully warns female listeners about experiencing while their significant others are present.

Whether you're a musician, an animal lover, or someone chasing dreams against practical advice, Bo's story reminds us that authentic passion resonates far beyond conventional success. Follow Timber Wilde on streaming platforms and watch for their upcoming releases throughout the year.

Yes, how y'all.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Last night was the um .
It's the proper name radio.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Texas regional radio report.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
It's so many R's, that's why it is.
That's what I was about to say.
That's why they put the threein front of there, Cause I would
have, I would stumble all overthat and you went and you
performed.
I did your musician foreverybody that does not know.
Yes, I'd try to be, try to beto be, try to be.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
that is such a crock of shit um, oh good, we can cuss
on this podcast oh yeah, I gotthe big fat e on there.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Yeah, I, we're like supposed to wait until the first
, what 10 minutes or something.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
But yeah, I don't you don't give a fuck.
I haven't made it yet.
I haven't made it I don't, Idon't.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
no, I try every single time.
No, I don't, really't, really,that's a lie.
No, and we try not to lie on mypodcast, because brazenly
ignore that, it's just asuggestion.
It, yeah it, it just happens,it just comes natural to me.
It is my favorite word.
All of them are that you're notsupposed to say the four
letters, the three letters, theall, the all the things.
But, um, we've been friends fora very long time and I was

(01:24):
thinking on the way over here,so I try not to pregame or talk
to you guys before we doanything like this stuff before
we started.
Yeah, yes, because it and Ilearned this from a friend of
mine that's done podcasts LikeTiffany, you need to stop stop
thinking too hard.
You need to just free, flow itand it's really.

(01:45):
It's so much more fun.
But I was thinking on the wayover here I don't remember where
the first place that I saw youplay.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
I don't either.
I know it was around like Imoved to Austin in 2012.
And I started playing aroundnew Bromble's around that time.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Lily was tiny.
Yeah, brumples around that time.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
Lily was tiny.
Yeah, she was uh six at thattime.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
Yeah, she's 19 years old it's insane, like when we
were at fry height which youguys know we're new brumples,
texas um fry heights countrystore that my adopted
grandparents used to own wayback then.
And uh, it is now.
It's still a staple.
It was a staple back then, butyou guys were playing on a

(02:29):
random Sunday afternoon and Ihave not seen her and I mean
maybe a year, and she waswalking around.
I was like oh, we need to putsome clothes on you, you were so
little, just not that long agoago, and I was like no holy
pickles from like 14 to 19 is apretty drastic change in a young

(02:49):
lady.
This woman is stunning, yeah, phenomenally beautiful stood
after mom, thank goodness youhave just done such an amazing
job with that child.
She is just the sweetest thing.
But I was thinking about thaton the way up here.
I was thinking she was solittle.
And now, yes, no.
And just, it is terrifying, it'syeah.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
As you should be.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
I mean, I'm terrified , and she's not mine and she is,
yeah, she's phenomenal, but youhave been um playing for a very
long time.
Yes, I have, I have been what Ilike to tell or introduce
everybody, that that introduceeverybody that does not know who
you are, where you came from, where did the music side of Bo
come from?

(03:31):
Where is that.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
Church.
I started singing in churchwhen I was really young five or
six years old singing and I justalways loved it.
My granddad plays piano andguitar and stuff and we'd sit
around and mess with songs so itwas in the family.
Yeah my parents not so much, but my granddad yeah, my was
even in a band.
Briefly really way back, whenthere's a video floating around

(03:55):
somewhere of him opening forneil mccoy.
Shut before he was still neilmcgoy then, Because he's from
Longview, close to where I grewup, and so, yeah, he never did
it professionally, but semi-pro,I guess, yeah, and then I took
it way farther than anyoneapproves of.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Did you know that that's what you wanted to do?

Speaker 3 (04:18):
Yeah, pretty much.
I mean I wanted to do I talkedabout.
You know I wanted to playbaseball for a while but my
commitment to conditioning wasnot great and I was more
interested in we're going totalk about his conditioning
skills here in a little bitBecause we were touching base on
it before we.
I was more interested in likegirls and beer and stuff.

(04:38):
You know, music things, wellthen, sports things, right.
And I briefly, you know, toyedwith the idea of going to law
school, but then I was just likeman.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
It's a lot of debating.
It's so long, like all thespending the money and the time
to do it.
The wardrobe is so tight Icould just be playing guitar
this whole time.
You know yeah, and so here youare.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
Yes, I started playing full time or like put my
first band together when I waslike 25 or 26, up in Hallsville
Texas, longview, texas, yeah, and they all started getting
married and having kids andthings and I was just like I'm
not done yet.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
So I moved to Austin and here we are, and here you
are.
Yeah, how long did you stay inAustin?

Speaker 3 (05:26):
I was there for eight years, I believe, and I've been
here for six, so that's it,mm-hmm.
No shit, I almost lived herewhen I lived in Austin.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
Well, I was going to say, wait, what yeah?

Speaker 3 (05:38):
I would spend days at a time down here.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
Yes, Yep, did you know?
When you were in the longviewarea the back, did you know that
new bronfels was such a a musictown?

Speaker 3 (05:52):
did you know, I knew austin was, I didn't really know
you didn't realize, I visitednew bronfels but yeah, I'd
always, you know, at that time, especially that was before it's
become what it's become, austin, you know it's like live music
capital of the world.
That's where everybody goes andand so I did.
And I had friends there, amyand April Rankin, the Rankin
twins, their guitar player waslooking for a roommate and Amy

(06:14):
called me and was like hey, Iknow you've been talking about
coming down here, like thiswould be a.
He's got a nice place, he's anice dude, you know, rent is
affordable, all that like you'reprobably going to get a better
opportunity than right now.
And I had a four-year-old childhow did you know the?
rankin twins.
So how did you?
I've known them since we werelike kid kids really are they

(06:37):
from the same area?
Like around longview.
Okay, um, they, I think, wereoriginally from like the like
coast area, gotcha.
I'm like um port a-ish,portland, and, uh, they played
sports against my younger sister, and so I knew them like in
junior high wow and then we kindof lost each other for a few

(06:58):
years and then ran into themrandomly at the frio river um,
just at the dance up there.
I was like man that looks likethose girls, those pine tree
girls.
Yeah, I'm like, oh yeah, that'sthem.
And so then we like reconnected, and they went to A&M and I
would go drive down to CollegeStation, we'd go watch Cross

(07:21):
County Ragweed play and all theguys that were coming up on the
scene at that time, right.
And so, yeah, it was kind ofstrange that whole.
I hadn't even thought aboutthat whole evolution of it
really in a while.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
It's kind of random, it's really kind of wild when
you go and it's the things thatI have found and learned about
people like yourself that I'veknown for a long minute in the
music scene and go back to hasbeen so interesting because I
mean, I feel like these are thethings, that it's kind of a wild
ride for everyone.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
I think it is you know and what I've.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
I don't call it coincidence or whatever, but I
think probably in the last monthto two there has been more
musicians like yourself, thatbaseball was where they were
going and then, poof, yeah, outfrom the sky fell a guitar or a

(08:13):
pair of panties or somethingfrom a stage or a concert and
you're like well you know what?

Speaker 3 (08:16):
It's funny how those two things coincide sometimes.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
Maybe that ball, maybe I should be hitting
something else.
Baseball just doesn't look nearas fun as that nice 34 double D
that just landed across my.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
Yeah, on the odds of making it actually making a
college team are really, reallyslim, very.
And then, if you you know, going beyond that to semi-pro is
very, very slim.
And then from there to likeactually making a living playing
baseball I mean you've won in afew million, right, and you
know the odds are about thatgood of playing music.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
Their odds are that good about anything?
And right, if you reallyhonestly lay it all out and you
think about it you gotta just gowith the thing that you love
doing.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
You do where it's like.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
I don't mind being broke doing this right I mean
well kind of like my podcastRight Right, I'm having a damn
good time, but you know, it isso much fun I love it.
I absolutely love it, right, but yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:14):
I'll just make it work.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
As long as I'm not starving to death, and even then
when I first like literallyhungry sometimes.

Speaker 2 (09:27):
yeah, you know I had ten dollars to my name, and you
know one pack of ramen noodlesin the cupboard.

Speaker 3 (09:29):
You know it goes a long way.
Well, when you're, when youyeah here we go here we go yeah,
yeah gotta hope that's gonnalast till friday yes, yeah, one
noodle every hour.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
Yeah, we're gonna microwave one little noodle at a
time.
Blackberries on the side of theroad, yeah hey look, if you
need some fruit, we got some.
I got some good mushrooms uphere.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
Fortunately, I'm making like dozens of dollars
now.
Yes, you're doing good.
I eat fairly regularly now.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
Thank God, yeah, because we're going to go back
to the drawing board.
If not, in fact, we're going togo out and play some baseball.
We have things that have.
Things haven't changed On mybum knee, I do, you know.
I've got all kinds ofreplacements here.
We'll figure it out, we'llfigure it out, so music happened
, it did.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
And I loved it.
I really got full-blownaddicted fairly young, but I
just came from a place that justwasn't what you did.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
Right.

Speaker 3 (10:21):
You know anyone from Longview, texas or Hallsville,
texas it's still home.
You know anyone from longview, texas, or hallsville, texas,
grave, it's still home.
You know I still love everyonebut it's not a place that
encourages dreamers.
Right, it's, you know.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
Get married, have babies, get your real job settle
down right, you know, do thething which nothing at all wrong
with that no, if that's yourgig, exactly it's not, no, no,
it made me crazy.

Speaker 3 (10:45):
It makes me crazy right now.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
Thinking about it makes me like itchy yes, yeah, I
don't sit still, I cannot dothat.
I work 20 where you know, 24, 7, 365.
I am, I I don't sleep.
I'm up hours on end and, yeah,I cannot.
My brain would never be able todo the at eight o'clock.
We have to be here at 12o'clock.

(11:07):
We break for lunch and then atone o'clock we got to get back
in, and then at five o'clock weget in our car and there is no
groundhog day for this girl, absolutely not, it was not for
me, no, and I had a couple ofjobs like that.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
I worked in oil and gas, I was a landman for a while
and kind of had that kind ofjob, yeah, and the money was
really good, but I just I hatedit every day, you know, and I
wasn't I didn't do aparticularly good job, because I
just didn't really give a shit.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
Right, right, it wasn't your gig.

Speaker 3 (11:39):
I had to bust my ass to.
You know, make this rich guyricher and like doing things
that you, things that I don'twant to really run anybody's
name through the mud or anything, but all companies are not
particularly worried about itbeing fair or honest.
Just give me more.
It's a hunger game.

(11:59):
That wasn't really for meeither.
I get it.
I'm just like man.
I'm not, and so this isn't.
I didn't stick.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
No, so you, the guitar is cruising and you do
vocals, Did you cause I'm goingto tell I'm always singing.
I'm going to tell the worldabout your vocals.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
It is, it is um, it is different.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
It is's one word it is different, it is raspy, it is
um.
Girls, let me tell yousomething, all right, first of
all.
Yeah, if you have not heardthis man's vocals, fuck off
second of all you need to.

(12:45):
Third, all you do not want todo it in front of your man or
your significant other, or thisneeds to be um, yeah, so anyways
while I'm sitting here wigglingin my seat.
Anyways, um, you played, we didum a big bash at the resort.
We're going to go back to this, but I want to talk about your

(13:07):
vocals for a second, because wehad there was five of us that
all turned 50.
This was a couple years not usthis one yeah this one and four
others shut up.
Why are you talking about yourknee?
That's got a cramp in it, fuckoff.
Yeah, but yes, and we had awhole group of why are you
talking about your knee?
That's got a cramp in it?
Fuck off.
But yes, and we had a wholegroup of musicians and guys, and

(13:32):
you guys all jumped up andplayed.

Speaker 3 (13:35):
I left my guitar sitting down there that night.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
There's a lot of things that have been left out
there that belong to musicians, and thank goodness.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
Might have had a little too much fun that day.
A lot of us.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
Yep, there was, yeah, there was yeah.

Speaker 3 (13:48):
Yeah, rio Trippiano came pulling up to the house and
it was just got out and he waslike hey man, uh, where's your
guitar?
Like oh man, like I mean justleft it sitting in the parking
lot.

Speaker 1 (14:03):
It's not like sometimes need it, Sometimes
late at night.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
They say or sometimes at Gypsy River.

Speaker 3 (14:08):
And fortunately he had picked it up for me One of
the few times that he's actuallygone out of his way to do
something nice for me, you know,I love that.
You just never know.

Speaker 2 (14:18):
Big old bear, but there was a ton of people there.
It was Gina's birthday too andshe had a ton of people come in
from in and out of town, whichour whole crew.
I was like, hey, this is whatwe're doing, I'm putting the
thing together, I'm cooking.
You guys come and play Boom, boom, boom.
But for them they had neverheard you guys play, so it was

(14:45):
new.
Some of them had heard, somedidn't.
And then when you got up and itwas right about the time that I
was finally going to get to sitdown and relax and chill, and
around the concrete area we havewhat's called Cypress gardens.
You've played there many atimes and, um, it was for
whatever reason, all the chairswere kind of going around this

(15:06):
curved area and it was all womenand I sat down and you got up
there and played, and the lookon their faces and everyone that
was going and all I could turnaround and look at all these
women and I said I fucking toldy'all, I told y'all and I told
y'all, and I have recordings ofthese videos.
And then there is me in thebackground going my Lord, have

(15:30):
mercy.
That is not the blood that isflowing through here right now.
Jesus, take the will.
And so, yes, I'm going to playthis snippet of me in the
background talking about him andhis vocals, so I don't want to
embarrass you, but I'm going to.
I just want you to know that ify'all have not heard this man
sing you need to Thanks.

Speaker 3 (15:49):
I didn't know.

Speaker 2 (15:50):
Anyways, now that we've, already gone to church
and back and.
I should probably.
I need some Jesus um.
Had a band in Austin that youstarted and then you?

Speaker 3 (16:02):
yeah, well, in east texas first, and then moved to
austin and I never really had alike a set band in austin, uh,
but I did play, for it was justboat rumble, you know, I didn't
have.
And then I met garrett man, uh,around the time.
Well, I don't know, it's been along time, but uh, we talked

(16:23):
about playing together for along time and then, finally,
where did y'all?
Cross paths, uh, around sanmarcos.
He was still living in sanmarcos at the time.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
Uh, a few he was, that's like a few girls ago uh
you know, so yeah, I won'tmention her name but he was
living with a woman there andthen, yep, uh, it's kind of like
this undisclosed location thatwe're hanging out at right now
and we've met.

Speaker 3 (16:47):
I think kylie and I were hanging out like at their
apartment in san marcos and wewere, you know, talking about
music and things and what wewere into and all kinds of stuff
.
Man, we ought to get togetherand jam sometime.
And maybe like a year afterthat he called me and was like
hey, I've got this gig, this gigat Billy's, I need a singer.
He booked himself a gig.

Speaker 2 (17:08):
I mean, you know what I'm just going to run and stick
my foot in the door.

Speaker 3 (17:10):
I don't know what the hell I'm going to do when I get
in there, but we're going tofucking figure it out.
And so, yeah, whenever weplayed together once and it was
like man, we've got to keep herewe are.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
Timberwild, timberwild, has it been that
name, didn't y'all start?

Speaker 3 (17:31):
We never really had any other names official.
We were just Bo and Garrett fora long time.
Then, when we recorded an album, it was like we got to come up
with a name.

Speaker 2 (17:39):
We need to figure some shit out, we need to put
something on paper.
I think what is really cool andI've talked about this before
is with you guys in NewBraunfels and it's not
necessarily not all from NewBraunfels the way that y'all can
jump up on stage and, just likeyou said, garrett booked
himself a gig.

Speaker 3 (17:58):
Has no idea I'll figure it out what the hell
who's going to plug in themicrophone?

Speaker 2 (18:02):
Who's going to whatever?
I'm figure it out what the hellis.
Who's gonna plug in themicrophone?
Who's gonna whatever?
I'm just gonna get up there andwe're gonna wean it.
But y'all will jump up.
It will start out with you andgarrett.
The next thing you know, courtwill walk in the door and boom's
on stage.
Then you got all those mrc boysyeah, bd3, that'll just pop up
and you have rio that'llrandomly walk in the door.
But what is so cool, andespecially bringing up the the

(18:25):
uh, 50th orgasmic birthday partythat we all had, thank you very
much, um is all of y'allgetting up there and not not
even knowing a song, or not?
Right or whatever, yeah justgetting in how does that happen?

Speaker 3 (18:41):
uh, uh, just a lot of years of doing it.
It's not like y'all just sitback and study each other, or
you just when those guys youknow like it's mind, I'm not
that kind of a guitar playerwhere I can just jump in, jump
in and I've kind of got to knowthe song, at least know.
Uh, I'm more of like a rhythmplayer, so I kind of, I mean, I
can kind of figure out the basicidea of what we're doing, right

(19:04):
, and just kind of be in thebackground.
Yeah, but those guys you know, like Eric and Garrett, and you
can just kind of tell them whatkey you're playing in, it's
ridiculous.
And they'll just start playingand yeah, I can't do that and it
is, it's amazing.
The amount of talent, lots ofguys around here, yeah, the
amount of talent lots of guysaround here, yeah that, and, and

(19:24):
women too, that I mean.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
Just there's a lot of talent there is a lot of talent
and to watch, hop intoharmonies and hop in and play,
lead or hop in, you know can andjust jump up and all of a
sudden it becomes a orchestrayeah, in the backyard and you're
like wait, what the hell wasthat just I'm pretty sure we
should print this or somethingyou know I mean, yeah, it's,

(19:47):
it's phenomenal, and if you'venot witnessed it or you guys
have never been to new brumplesto watch and see how this
happens, you'll it's neverplanned.

Speaker 3 (19:55):
Yeah, it can be very random we're very it is big on
not making plans no, I mean godforbid.

Speaker 2 (20:01):
If there was a plan, it would we've rearranged this
plan three times.

Speaker 3 (20:05):
okay, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (20:06):
But wait for it, it's happening, we're here, we're
here and it's happening.
But yeah, it's really um, it'sphenomenal and I've witnessed it
a million times is how you guyscan.
One will pick up, one willstart singing, one will take the
lead, one will be watching thedrummer.
We'll pick up up one, turnaround and look at the other
guitar player and go, okay, yougot this, I'm gonna grab it just

(20:27):
knows how to do it and knowstheir role and, like, knows what
, what they can add to it yes,you know everybody kind of knows
what.

Speaker 3 (20:34):
okay, well, that guy's doing that.
So and me, you know, I mean Ican play rhythm and I can sing,
and so lots of times, if it's, Ican kind of do a little harmony
here and there.
But you know, I've kind of gotto be the guys jump in with me
instead of the guy who jumps in.
Yeah Right, I need a flotationdevice or my drone.

(20:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (20:57):
I got a nice wiggle.

Speaker 3 (20:58):
Right.

Speaker 2 (20:59):
Speaking of your, okay, and this is something, too
, that, and I'm one of those Ipay attention to a lot, I pay
attention to to a lot in inmusicians and, um, noticing the
bass and the bass with the, withthe drummer, and the blah, blah
blah, um, you have a, a footwiggle.

Speaker 3 (21:18):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:19):
Yeah, I do?

Speaker 3 (21:20):
I see it in videos all the time.

Speaker 2 (21:22):
And I will yeah it is .
Yeah, it's like a the toe,doesn't?
I will yeah, it is.

Speaker 3 (21:25):
Yeah, it's like the toe doesn't move as much, it's
the heel that moves.

Speaker 2 (21:28):
You hook your boot on the back and if y'all mark my
words, I will sit and tell thisto so many different people and
they're like no, I don't.
Yeah, bullshit.
Go back and go watch some ofthe gigs where everybody's
recording you.
But you will hook the back ofthe little bottom of the bar
stool and you will and youwiggle.

Speaker 3 (21:51):
And kind of like walk you do, Almost walk you do but
you don't move, you're justsitting.

Speaker 2 (21:55):
You're still on the bar stool, but yeah.

Speaker 3 (21:58):
I don't think I don't realize I'm doing it until I
see.
You know, I've seen severalpeople like send me, like look
at your feet right Like you looklike a little kid and you know,
know, like barber stool yes andI'm a fidgeter and I never sit
still and I'm always tweedlingwith something, I'm always
jacking with shit, and so yeah,I'm just like keeping time you
are, you are, but I'm payingattention when I'm watching you.

Speaker 2 (22:21):
I'm paying attention to the time you're keeping,
trying to figure out what's whattime's going on down here
versus what's going on up here.
I'm like look at this guyyou're, you're just, he's got
all kinds of things going onover there.
Yeah, bo, party of one, but Iget it because I am not.

Speaker 3 (22:38):
Yeah, that process was not a planned process,
that's right.

Speaker 2 (22:42):
But there's, yeah, there's so many different
there's, we all have our ticksright, I guess.
But that's, that's pretty coolhow you, how you do that and
just keep on, you, just keep ontrucking.
But you're right there on thatstage and nothing is moving.
It's really cool.
It is cool it is.

Speaker 3 (23:01):
Thanks, it is there's .
Both of our phones have beengoing crazy this whole time.
Mine has buzzed it's like 15times, I know it's like they
know, it's just rude no onewants to talk to me all day long
until I'm busy All day long, ifI'm taking a nap or I start
doing something like this, myphone immediately goes crazy.

Speaker 2 (23:17):
Same Same.
It's ridiculous.
I don't like that many people.
First of all, I don't know whois calling me right now.

Speaker 3 (23:22):
I know that many people don't like it's one
person texting 20 times 20 timesit's an emergency.

Speaker 2 (23:32):
Let's talk about Daphne.
Okay, so you, daphne is, she'sa staple yeah, she's been around
a long time everybody knowsthat.
I mean everybody, that's myFrenchie she is I.
I am going to go back and digout old pictures.

Speaker 3 (23:50):
She's old, yeah, she's 13.
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (23:53):
She's been all over with you.
She's been on a bajillionstages.

Speaker 3 (23:57):
Yeah, lots of buses and lots of vans and lots of
stages.
She's been lots of states.
She's probably been to morestates than most people.

Speaker 2 (24:06):
I had a pig that traveled all over with me.
Pickles, and she has probablybeen on more stages and crossed
more state lines and area codes.
She had her own Facebook pageand they called her the pig with
a passport, which she did.
She traveled all over with meand she turned 15 and I lost her
and it was hard it was tough itwas

Speaker 3 (24:28):
really, really tough Deaf's, like blind and deaf now,
and I know that I don't have awhole lot of time, yeah, and it
like you can hear my voice shakejust mentioning it, let me tell
you I you know, delilah, I meandelilah, it was my golden
doodle that has jumped on stageswith you and and mighty soul,
which is amber and um gar, andshe yeah, that was when she's

(24:51):
had two eyes.

Speaker 2 (24:52):
And then you guys were playing at the Villa and
she heard Marisol's voice and, with her one eye come to, she
didn't give a damn.
She was like wait, that's myTia, and so she jumped up on
stage and hung out with you, butI lost her a couple months ago
and it was it's tough, holy shit, it's-.
Pigs man, her a couple monthsago and it was tough.
Holy shit, it's um pigs man, golly.

(25:12):
It just never it it.
It doesn't get any easy.

Speaker 3 (25:15):
It doesn't get any easier, but um I never made a
her own instagram page because Iwas worried that no one would
follow my page if I made one andyou're right, just for her.
That was very smart at thattime especially.
Yes, it's like people just goton my page just to see her.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
Yes, and the amount of pictures Get them addicted
and then dial it back.
Yeah right, it's like danglinga carrot Right here you go.

Speaker 1 (25:39):
I'm not as dumb as I look.

Speaker 2 (25:41):
No, it's my dog, it's like going to pick up chicks at
the H-E-B.
Cute dogs, pretty girls, nicecars grocery girls, nice cars,
those those things, those things, people are looking at them
right.
Guitars, yeah, guitars.
You know, women we're sometimes, sometimes real stupid.
We just be throwing things toany man with a guitar in his
hand, more so than probably abaseball bat.

Speaker 3 (26:03):
So that was good call just I mean, yeah, you know
sure whatever I feel like you, like those guys that are major
leaguers with millions ofdollars and things.

Speaker 2 (26:13):
They're that 1% to make it yeah.

Speaker 3 (26:16):
Which I'm kind of old .
That's not as important to menow as it once was.

Speaker 2 (26:20):
We just had this discussion.
Don't tell me about your ageanymore.
Stop.

Speaker 3 (26:25):
That's a young man's game, oh.

Speaker 2 (26:27):
Lord, you wrote a song that is About Daphne.
You did.

Speaker 3 (26:33):
Yes, it's our current single.

Speaker 2 (26:35):
It is, and I remember when you played it for the
first time and of course it waslike you said, or I said it was
nobody knew what that song?

Speaker 3 (26:47):
Yeah, it doesn't sound like I wrote it about a
dog, no Right.

Speaker 2 (26:50):
And it is epic and it is once you listen to it and
you get it, and then you realizethat this is actually about
Daphne.
It's cool as shit, yeah, and Ilove that song Me too, in fact,
that's one that I did record inthe 50th orgasmic party that we
yep, in fact, yes, but she um,where did you write that song?

Speaker 3 (27:15):
Um, I wrote it on my back porch Well, my former back
porch now.
You know where I was livingover there off of river road,
and, um, she was just layingthere like on her little soft
blanket with like all her bonespiled up around her and just,
you know, snoring, and I just Isaid, it just happened, Look at

(27:35):
her over there just sleeping onthe bones of her enemies.
And just as soon as I said it,I was like, oh, I'll just make a
little note of that.
And then, like it really didn'ttake long to write, it was one
of those.

Speaker 2 (27:46):
Was it a one nighter that you yeah?

Speaker 3 (27:48):
I?
It was one of those.
Was it a one-nighter that you?
Yeah, I mean I added to itlater.
I added a bridge to it later, but the verses and the chorus
were like maybe an hour and Icouldn't even play it.
I didn't know how to play it onthe guitar, I just had a melody
in my head and then the nextday he called Garrett Come over
here and let me sing this to youso you can tell me what.

Speaker 2 (28:09):
I'm doing Help.
Yeah, there you go.
Yeah, somebody call 911.

Speaker 3 (28:14):
And showed me how to play the song that I just wrote,
and so, yeah, it happened fast.
Those are always the best songs, I mean a lot of writers will
say that yes.
Usually you have to kind of sitthere and work at it, and, you

(28:37):
know, think and think and thenthere's those where your pen
can't keep up with how fast thelines are coming to you.

Speaker 2 (28:40):
You know it was one of those.
Yeah, it was just easy.
So when, how?

Speaker 3 (28:42):
okay, so how long ago was that?
Uh, that was probably like ayear and a half ago, something
like that.
Maybe it was longer than that, maybe two years ago, I'm not
sure at least I don't rememberexactly, uh, what time of year
it was.
Whatever, I feel like it waswarm outside it's.

Speaker 2 (28:59):
We're almost two years past the 50th birthday
party okay so and I played ityou played it at that, but yeah,
yeah, I had heard it because Iknew the whole damn song at the
birthday party, so I know it was, we recorded it it's been, it's
been like recorded for a yearprobably yeah and we just now

(29:22):
kind of got had to get all ourthings lined up for it.
You know, before we put it out, because we didn't want to just
never plan.

Speaker 3 (29:28):
Yeah, well yeah, but when you have something good,
it's so okay, we can't justrelease this, we need to, you
know, kind of set up some thingsand um, and so we've been doing
that, like made a video for ityeah we've done some reels and
some promotion and, uh, you know, extra, we've done extra things

(29:49):
just because it was like thatone's that one.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
We don't want that to just be on spotify and have 50
spins the, the jive, themovement, the lyrics, right once
you really realize exactly whatit is about.
But then you can turn it intoit sounds like a mean woman.

Speaker 3 (30:06):
yes, which daphne would be the meanest human woman
?

Speaker 2 (30:13):
Look, she's cute as hell, she's adorable she's a
little sassafras.

Speaker 3 (30:16):
If she was a human I would not put up with her For a
second.
Like you need to go awesome.
Take your own grateful ass.

Speaker 2 (30:26):
Yeah.
Expensive and jealous, and beatit, it expensive and jealous
that's her little horror.
She's cute as hell yeah, she'slike nick, she's cute as hell
she is adorable she is so cutelove her to life.
Yep, she's good, but, yeah, bones of your enemy.

(30:46):
It's good and so it's going tobe.
It's out now.
It's out, yeah.
The video, the, everything, thevideo.

Speaker 3 (30:53):
We're supposed to get the final today.
Yeah, like just the bestpositive.
Oh my gosh you know, justreinforcing, like that's great,
Completely.

Speaker 2 (31:02):
That's great.
Do more of that?
Yes, I should try doing thisand let me fix your hair Right
and just having greatsuggestions and being open to
our suggestions and having likehe had a game plan, but also was
.

Speaker 3 (31:13):
It was very interactive and and just could
not have been a more positiveexperience.

Speaker 2 (31:20):
I was so grateful to see that he did that for you
guys, because that was I wassuper excited because, yeah, he
is one hell of a talentedtalented, talented kid.

Speaker 3 (31:27):
He's pro.
He was busting his ass.
He knows busting his ass.
He knows a hot day.
Yeah, he's like he don't give ashit out there, you know
carrying these.
Can you see his arms like?

Speaker 2 (31:35):
seriously, yeah, he'll squat down there, he'll
get up, he'll climb a tree,he'll.
Yeah, he's awesome yeah, yeah,he's epic.
So, um, where are we going fromhere?
We got this video coming out.

Speaker 3 (31:46):
We've got where it's yeah timber wild yeah, and so
we're going to.
We have another song alreadyrecorded that Garrett wrote.
I think we need to add like alittle bit of Amber's harmonies
on it, but it's pretty much doneand that's going to be probably
like May.
We'll put that out once thisone kind of runs its course,
right, and we see what it doesand how long it can hold

(32:09):
people's attention.
Yeah, it's not long these daysYou're talking to me but exactly
, and everyone and so.
But we're going to see whatthat does and when it starts
kind of tapering off, then we'regoing to put that next one out
and then have a couple moresongs written that are and a
cover or two that we want torecord also nice we've got.
We're going to just every three, four months, put out a new

(32:31):
single.
Let them do what they do whenthey start falling, just put
another one out.

Speaker 2 (32:35):
Put another one out.

Speaker 3 (32:36):
Yeah, that's good, and then maybe after a year or
two, put a little compilation.

Speaker 2 (32:41):
A nice collab together.
I like that.
I like that.
How did you guys come up withTimberwild?

Speaker 3 (33:00):
That was Garrett's, I guess his sister.
There's an elementary school inSan Antonio called Timberwild
that his sister went to.
Elementary, my dear, and wewere looking for.

Speaker 2 (33:05):
We've been We've got to rewind this.
Wait, what We've been tryingNow all you've got to say is
it's a?
Catholic school or something.

Speaker 3 (33:12):
I have no idea.
I've never been to the school.

Speaker 2 (33:14):
No, I mean, you know.

Speaker 3 (33:15):
I grew up in Northeast Texas so I don't know.
But we were trying to come upwith a name and like throwing
names at each other and we keptkind of, you know, just vetoing
each other.

Speaker 2 (33:25):
Right.

Speaker 3 (33:26):
And he said he was talking to his sister.
And she said something aboutlike oh, I just passed by a
timber wild the other day.
He was like, oh, that's kind ofcool.

Speaker 2 (33:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (33:35):
And asked me about it , and it was one of those where
I mean yeah, that sounds cool, like let me you know yeah.
And it just yeah, it was thebest we had.

Speaker 2 (33:42):
Well, I mean from you coming from Piney Woods.

Speaker 3 (33:45):
Right and right.

Speaker 2 (33:46):
Timber yeah, it basically translates to like a
wise man of the woods.
Okay, now we're going to goback to this, because you and I
talked about it and I said stoptalking because this is funny as
shit.
So music video oh yeah, so.

Speaker 3 (34:04):
I don't want to give too much away, but there's a
scene in this video whereGarrett and I have to chase
after this car and we arestartled, you know, and have to
run, chase this car and mind you, garrett is wall of six foot
he's like six four, six three.

Speaker 2 (34:26):
I was gonna say because I've got a six foot
seven, I have a six foot one andI have a six he's tall, his
character right in his.

Speaker 3 (34:32):
He is a fucking gazelle right yeah and so right,
and I'm thinking we're wearingcowboy boots you know, and jeans
, first of all it's hot out, yeah, and I'm sweating.
I was you know, like I'm incharacter, kind of I'm not an
actor.
You know, I'm just like we'regonna kind of jog at my car.

Speaker 2 (34:51):
And when he says action, you know like I'm just
kind of like turning around likeoh no you're doing a ballet jog
, he's like and just yeah, ohshit, okay, we're running, we're
running for real and he's 10years younger than me.

Speaker 1 (35:05):
Yeah, yeah, and so that's so then I'm like all
right, okay, we're running.

Speaker 2 (35:11):
Yeah, good deal.

Speaker 1 (35:12):
Take two, wait for me .
I'll meet you there, I'll runLike I can hang with him.

Speaker 3 (35:16):
He's faster than I am , but I can hang with him.
And so then we do two takeswhere we're running hard in
cowboy boots on a rocky you know, a San Marcos.

Speaker 2 (35:27):
It's fastball yeah.

Speaker 3 (35:28):
I mean, it's her, it's out here, and so and we're
hauling ass and like, do it andmy left knee 10 days later is
still saying no.

Speaker 2 (35:44):
What made you think that you could?

Speaker 1 (35:46):
run, you could still sprint Keep up with Garrett Just
sprint.

Speaker 2 (35:47):
I ain't sprinting, no .

Speaker 3 (35:48):
I'll bet, the last time I sprinted was when I tried
to race Garrett Mann.
When we first started playingtogether.

Speaker 1 (35:54):
I'm fast boy, don't like.
Yeah, don't let the skin.

Speaker 3 (35:58):
And um, he, he, I've never beat him in a race, but
I'm pretty fast.
All things considered, he'sfaster.
And, um, when we first startedplaying together, that's, we
raced in the poorhouse parkinglot because I was talking shit.

Speaker 1 (36:18):
oh, imagine dude, I'm fast boy.

Speaker 3 (36:19):
You can't like, don't and he got me in cowboy boots
in the parking lot at poorhouse, you know which is not that
parking lot is not very big no,no, by the time you got your
groove going 30 yard, 40 yard, you know yeah, and yeah he got
me.

Speaker 2 (36:38):
I'm not ashamed to admit that he got me, I mean
he's 10 years younger and a foottaller yeah, at least I mean he
is one of his steps, like threeof mine thank you, it's exactly
what I'm thinking.

Speaker 3 (36:50):
All I can see in my mind is Scooby-Doo and Shaggy
and a little sprinting, yes, andthen a little Frenchie, chase
Right and your little your boobson the deals that are going
like this and you're not goinganywhere like you do on stage,
right, that's probably what washappening Exactly that's what's
happening on the ground.

Speaker 2 (37:13):
And he's long gone and and been like you need some
water.

Speaker 1 (37:16):
You catch her.
Yeah, you go get her.
You go get her.
I'm going to sit right here.

Speaker 2 (37:20):
Right, I'm going to sit right here and tell the
po-po that she stole our car.
Yeah and yeah.

Speaker 3 (37:25):
So yeah.
Me and Daphne are going to forthe first time in my life, took
all these years.
First time for everything.
I've learned, yeah, andsometimes there's a fifth time
for everything.

Speaker 2 (37:39):
Well, yeah, that's me .
I never learned the first timeGenerally, no, yeah, no, we're
not going to go there, it's kindof like the bones of the enemy.
We're just going to bury themand sit down or whatever scatter
around, just let her have them.

Speaker 3 (37:51):
Yeah, we're just going to bury them and sit down,
or whatever scatter around, just let her.
Have them, yeah, I cannot, Icannot.

Speaker 2 (37:56):
I just wish I could have seen the whole.

Speaker 3 (37:58):
It was funny.
We had a great time.
We were worn out but we wentfrom like 1030 in the morning to
you said you're still worn out.

Speaker 2 (38:04):
It's been 10 days.

Speaker 3 (38:06):
But I've had 12 shows in those 10 days and a lot of
miles and stuff like this.
I've done some podcasts andradio interviews.

Speaker 2 (38:16):
Lots of promo.
You stood up on stage lastnight I did.

Speaker 3 (38:19):
I sang with Brie Bagwell.
We talked about this Bestfriend, Brie.

Speaker 2 (38:22):
She is an absolute doll face.
I freaking love these shit.

Speaker 3 (38:25):
We have a single out right now too.
It's so good, and we performedit in front of all our heroes.

Speaker 2 (38:30):
So that was kind of cool because we talked about
this before.

Speaker 3 (38:33):
So you need to tell yeah, I was really nervous
because I'm not really a harmonysinger, but that song I sing
harmonies in that song.
I was a bit nervous, but I wasstill like you know I've got it.
Yeah, you know I've been doingthis a long time.

Speaker 1 (38:51):
I got to sing.

Speaker 3 (38:51):
I got this and then I walk out on that stage and
there's, you know, cross-canadaRagweed and Randy Rogers and
Wade Bowen and Paul Eason, andthat's right there in front row
staring at me, just kind of likeoh.

Speaker 2 (39:06):
Shit got very real.

Speaker 1 (39:10):
Don't look at them again you know, just keep
smiling and look at right.

Speaker 2 (39:16):
Smile and wave boys.

Speaker 3 (39:21):
Hopefully I didn't embarrass Brie too much.
She did great and I feel like Idid All right, so we'll see.
I haven't seen video of it yet,but I'll I'll.
Regardless.
I'll critique myself.

Speaker 2 (39:36):
Have you ever been on a stage like that and gotten
nervous like that before?

Speaker 3 (39:40):
I mean I get, I get more anxious.
I feel like then nervous.
No, it's not like a afraid,it's more afraid of the unknown
of it.
That like once, once I'm in itand going like I'm good, but
it's the two hours before whereit's like oh shit.
Okay, I gotta do this, you knowgotta nail this and then and

(40:02):
then, once it's going, it's, youknow, just muscle memory and
you know you're doing it.
That's not that big a deal youare not um.

Speaker 2 (40:14):
A lot of musicians I have found are very shy outside
in the real world versus thestage.
You're not one of those no, I'mnot shy.

Speaker 3 (40:22):
I mean, I'm not not in my opinion.

Speaker 2 (40:24):
I mean you're?

Speaker 3 (40:26):
yeah, I don't like go out of my way really to talk to
people, but I but I'm, I'm goodat it, you're yeah, I.
I'm not shy.

Speaker 2 (40:33):
It's ironic how many musicians to put in or have to
sit on a podcast and to talk anddo things are like absolutely
not.

Speaker 3 (40:45):
Listen, I grew up in East Texas with two sisters and
a mom and a dad that all went toa Baptist church and like,
listen, we, you know the hey, baby, how you doing.

Speaker 1 (40:57):
Come and sit down, let me get you something to eat.
I chewed the Wrigley's gum.
We can yes.

Speaker 3 (41:03):
I can talk for 10 minutes without saying anything.

Speaker 2 (41:06):
Damn.
Thank me too.

Speaker 1 (41:07):
Just why tell me how's your mom and dad what they
doing?
They still over there.

Speaker 3 (41:13):
Like you know, I've got 10, 15 minutes of that shit
Right Before we ever really getto it Get to where we're going.
Yeah, like, what are you doingfor work?

Speaker 2 (41:22):
Yeah, yeah, what'd you do last night?
Anyways, never mind, let's goon to the.
Yeah, the pecan pies.

Speaker 3 (41:30):
Right.

Speaker 2 (41:30):
Yeah, that's good.
That's good.
I'm from the deep piney woods.

Speaker 3 (41:35):
You know, we got no problem finding words.

Speaker 2 (41:38):
Well, you see, I was born and raised local from New
Brunfels and that's how it usedto be here, but nobody really
spoke English.
It was all German.
Yeah, my whole family that'swild, how fast it's changed.
Holy pickles, holy pickles.
It is insane.
I was in green yesterday inthat truck and trailer parked in

(41:58):
the middle of the road, flashers on dropping off some
wine barrels to the greenhouse.
You guys have not been to thegreenhouse right next to
gristmill, right next to greenhall, across from mosey's go
she's adorable, great.
And this gentleman was walkingthrough, cause there's kind of
like the little trails where youcan go through to get to the

(42:19):
different restaurants and whathave you and this guy had a
shirt on that said I miss theold new rompels.
I wanted to hug him.

Speaker 1 (42:27):
He said me too.
You want to sit down?

Speaker 3 (42:29):
and maybe I have a glass of wine and talk about it
or something it was like yeah, and I'm fairly new to the place,
so I don't even know.

Speaker 2 (42:37):
Way back when.

Speaker 3 (42:42):
I saw an old population sign, I think from
2000,.
The population was like 15,000people and now it's 115,000
people.

Speaker 2 (42:52):
So when I was a tiny baby, when I said my adopted
grandparents owned fry height,um, there's the bowling alley
which was right next to to therestaurant and I used to run
around in that bowling alley andnothing but a dapper, yeah, and
my adopted grandpa which Istill do that.

(43:12):
Nothing's really changed,nothing's really changed,
besides my height?
And what are we reading here?
The potatoes that.

Speaker 1 (43:20):
I just settled in the wrong area.
