In the latest episode of The Recovery Circle, we welcome Matt Z. to share his remarkable journey. Matt, the oldest of three brothers, was born in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn in the mid-80s. His early life was marked by his mother’s struggle with addiction, which led to her leaving the family when Matt was just 7 years old. Raised by his father, Matt always yearned for his mother’s love.
Despite his popularity and being a talented three-sport athlete, Matt often felt alone among his friends. He turned to drinking to feel a sense of belonging, but alcohol brought out a darker side of him, leading to anger and frequent fights. As a boxer, he would often blow off steam through physical altercations, which usually ended in trouble and regret.
After leaving college, Matt entered the sales industry and began using cocaine to boost his performance. Although he achieved success in his career, his life became increasingly unmanageable due to his alcoholism and drug addiction. Even after getting married and having two children, Matt struggled to get sober.
A turning point came when Matt faced a serious medical issue caused by his excessive drinking. This crisis prompted him to seek sobriety. Despite experiencing relapses, Matt found his path through a 12-step fellowship, where he is now actively working a recovery program. With the love and grace of his higher power, Matt is mending his relationships and rebuilding his life.
Join us to hear Matt’s inspiring story of resilience, recovery, and hope. 🎙️🌟
