In the latest episode of The Recovery Circle, we are honored to have Ruben M. share his remarkable journey. Originally from Newark, NJ, Ruben's early life was marked by significant challenges. After losing his father to AIDS and his mother shortly after his birth, he was adopted by his aunt and uncle. Despite this, Ruben often felt disconnected from his family and was unaware of his adoption until his early twenties.
As a child, Ruben thrived in chaos and frequently found himself in trouble. Growing up in Newark, he faced daily racism and violence. To channel his aggression, he took up boxing, but lacked support from his father. His behavior led to him bouncing around various schools, and in a bid to find purpose, Ruben enlisted in the Navy. However, his struggles continued, and his addiction worsened.
Ruben's turning point came with the birth of his son, which gave him the strength to seek help. He found solace in a 12-step program and has been clean and sober for 9 years. Today, Ruben has a loving spouse and a closer connection to his higher power.
Join us as Ruben shares his story of resilience, transformation, and hope. His journey is a powerful reminder that recovery is possible, and that support and faith can lead to profound change. ๐๏ธ๐
