Could redemption be nestled within the crumpled folds of a broken life?

We have been stepping out of the studio these past couple of weeks for a  very special project which will be released as a few part series. Therefore, we haven't been scheduling our regular studio interviews. Those will be back  VERY soon.

However, please stay tuned after the initial message from Matt for a little snippet from this special-release series. This reading comes straight from our featured guest, which he wrote and read to Matt over the phone in one of several interviews that have been done both in person and remote.

This series will be a conversation that promises to linger with you, long after the final words have been spoken.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Thank you for tuning in.
We are going to be skipping ourregular episode this week
because we have been working ona special project.
We had a guest that came intous and we were going to do just
like a regular studio interview, but the more we, the more I
spoke with him, the more Irealized how many layers there

(00:25):
really was to this onion, so tospeak, and a single studio
interview would not have done itjustice.
This guest we'll call him E ishas probably one of the most
fascinating and diverse storiesthat I've ever heard and just in

(00:49):
general, he's kind of afascinating dichotomy of a
person and I know my listenersare going to really enjoy
hearing his story, hearing himspeak.
I've enjoyed it so far andwe've been working on that.
So we haven't been doing ourtraditional studio interviews as

(01:09):
much.
So you know, bear with us, hangin there.
We're going to play a littletrailer or snippet of one of the
conversations or one of thereadings he did for me recently,
right after this.
Also, we just got some newaudio equipment that gives us

(01:30):
the ability to do really highquality interviews over the
phone, so we're able to donationwide, worldwide interviews
and hopefully that way cast alittle bit of a larger net as
far as a guest list and be ableto really get some fascinating

(01:50):
people with some great insightsand some great stories.
If you or anyone you know has agreat story or maybe some
particular industry insight, such as a doctor or a lawyer or
something like that, have thememail, or you can email
teamattheredactedpodcastcom andget in touch with us.

(02:13):
Let us know what you got goingon.
But other than that, enjoy thistrailer and we are really
excited to bring this show toyou once it kind of finishes.
So thanks for tuning in.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
I am not a good guy.
I am broken, I am sinful.
I am full of vices andtemptations and traumas and
tragedies.
The darkness calls me in oneform or another almost every

(03:19):
single damn day.
I wish it wasn't so, but I amwho I am, however.
Yes, I still feed and helpstraight animals and vegan for
all of them.
Yes, I still donate time andlabor to animal rescues or, in
some cases, other people wouldneed.
Yes, I am still a shoulder tocry on and safe place to share

(03:43):
your own dark pain.
My shoulders are broad.
Yes, I am still the very manyou want, walking down the same
side of the street If yourgrandmother or young daughter is
walking home alone at night.
I have kept more than onestranger safe.
I am still the guy who tries totreat people with decency and

(04:04):
compassion.
But I am not the good guy.
I am the broken guy full ofvice, trauma and darkness, who
still tries to do good things.
Jesus, grace and mercy.
Just because I'm broken doesn'tmean I have to be bad.

(04:25):
One day I was sitting in thesubway getting high, sitting on
the bottom step of an entrancethat is somewhat secluded.
I look up and I see a manattack a terrified 20-something
girl trying to mug her.
I see her crying and screaming, trying to fight him off.
I dropped my drugs, ran to theother side of the entrance,

(04:46):
where they were, and I foldedhis ass.
She ran screaming up steps.
A few short moments later, anarmy of cops came running down
as the dust began to settle andhe was let off in handcuffs.
She began repeating loudly, pointing at me he saved me.
He saved me.

(05:06):
Can he get some kind of areward?
Can I nominate him please?
All the cops grew silent, lookedat each other, looked at her,
then looked at me, every singlepair of their eyes seeming to
say the same thing you are notthe hero she deserves, you are

(05:33):
just the one she got.
We cannot celebrate you.
Their thank you was to not lookfor the drugs that they would
have surely found and known weremine.
Once all was done, everyonegone, I stood alone for a moment

(05:53):
, staring at the stairway whereit all just happened, thinking
to myself.
It would seem the wrong guy didthe right thing.
Maybe more broken people canfind some saving grace and hear
lessen their own darkness bydoing the same.
Sometimes they are actually thestrongest and bravest because

(06:20):
they have to be God's grace andmercy.
Say a prayer for me.
I always need them.
