You want to start
with LA.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
I guess, or what are
we going to start with?
We can start with LA Other thanthat.
So what have you been doingthis week?
Speaker 1 (02:15):
Working this week.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
I have too.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
So it wasn't my first
Well, first full week of doing
a lot of presenting this week,so I spent my week being in
front of lots of adults.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
What is it that you
do again?
Please share.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
I am a wellness
specialist.
I do a lot of training.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
Medical wellness.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
No more so of social,
emotional well-being.
Um is what I do, and I do a lotof training for who for for for
the school, like a major thing.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
Yeah, I didn't say
the name, okay, just saying you
do, what do you mean?
Yeah, then what are you askingme?
I'm I'm not saying the name, but but you, you, who do you?
Who do you train?
Speaker 1 (03:03):
Okay, I train
teachers.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
Right.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
I train um principals
, um yeah and uh, even oh well,
also well, and students and alsouh families, parents.
So good job.
Yeah, I trained all thosepeople, people that are
important parts of the community.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
Good job Proud of you
.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Yes, so that's what
I've been doing all week is
training and preparing peoplefor the first day of school or
to begin the school year withsome great strategies to
positively support the socialand emotional well-being of
students.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
Because God knows we
need it.
You would be surprised that theteachers whose behaviors are
similar to kids like for real.
There are some teachers who youwonder why they're in the
profession.
You know what I mean.
And it's crazy because all theyare is just older kids.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
I will say, teaching
is not an easy job.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
It is not.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
Especially not today.
Yeah, your hands are tied.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
Yeah, Things you
can't say, things you can't say,
things you can't do.
Yeah, um, you're almost beingum, you're, you're, you're more
so a um, conduit.
You know what I mean, meaningthat you're only like you know
how water is only going to gowhere if you pour it through a
(04:44):
pipe.
It's only going to go where youdirect the pipe.
So that's how it is.
It's like it.
There's there's less of usbeing creative and individual
teachers, and you know, withinthe profession and within the
content, we're now being toldwhat to do, how to do it, when
to do it, to do how to do it,when to do it, and you're only
(05:07):
being told from one perspective,as opposed to offering your
creativity and things like thatin the mix.
It is different, it's verydifferent, but you try to find
those ways to do it you know tostill make it your own, and I
think that's different.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
Yeah.
So I think that's kind of like.
What you're saying is that it'sdifferent now in education and
if you've chosen to be ineducation, then it's super
important that you shift andchange with what the need is now
.
So I think that's just the mostimportant part.
So I think that's just the mostimportant part and I feel like
(06:08):
that's a part of my.
What I do is to hopefully moveand change in any career,
because things change and grow, but especially like now with the
needs of students, that youhave to shift and change and
grow with them.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
To me to reach your
ultimate success as an educator
and for the success of yourstudents, yeah, I think it's so,
it's, it's so data driven thatas a teacher, it's um, you're,
you're, you're, uh, losing outon teaching the emotion because
(06:38):
you're trying to teach the data.
And you know what I'm saying?
Speaker 1 (06:41):
Because yeah, and
what are the different?
Like my brain, I'm just havingjust having a brain fog or a
brain fart right now.
We think about data we have.
What are our two different datathat are collect collection
wise?
Speaker 2 (06:55):
Formative and
summative.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
No, the data that is
numerical and then the one
that's more for observation.
Gosh, that's going to kill um.
Gosh, that's gonna kill me.
That I can't data we.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
We should know it
from statistics I'm just telling
you, I'm saying all thesedifferent data, but it's just
not the one you want no, it'snot like when you're doing a
study and you're collecting data.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
You can collect it
where uh qualitative and
quantitative yes, thank you.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
Okay, I mean we're
going through all of our data
points.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Yes, yes, yes, I
don't know why I had that part,
but we do a lot of quantitativeRight and then a lot of it when
I see in some of the work that Ido, that qualitative being able
to see some things that if?
Speaker 2 (07:41):
that's what you're
correcting.
Yeah, you're correcting thequalitative aspect of the
educator and you know the adminis really handling the
quantitative part of it, butthere is some great data with
that qualitative yeah.
Yeah, and you know that's,that's how they're based on
school performance and all thatstuff.
(08:01):
But it gets lost in the shuffle, yeah, especially coming out of
COVID.
And you know, even still peoplesay, well, covid was so long
ago, but you got to understandin that time that COVID hit.
It hit integral parts ofstudents development.
So those moments of developmentis lost and now it's like a, a
(08:22):
puzzle that you put.
You know, people make, put apuzzle together and they put on
the wall when it's complete.
What COVID did is allow peopleto put the puzzle together but
there's two or three piecesmissing.
Yeah, and it's still on thewall.
You know what I mean.
And so for that, that that's atough part, I know.
I see it when it comes to thehigh school level because let's
(08:44):
say, for example, recently, Iknow last year, was the first
group of kids coming from whowere homeschooled, like they
didn't start middle schoolbecause came out of COVID and
the parents like, oh, no, I'mnot sending them to middle
school because you know theysocially, yeah, they're very shy
and all that stuff.
So they kept them at home six, seventh and eighth, and then all
(09:06):
of a sudden these jokers cometo high school, and they lost a
lot of development.
They lost the interaction, and,you know, the slightest thing
gets them like riled up or getsthem shut down, and so I had to
deal with a lot of that.
You know so, and I can imaginehow it was with kids
(09:29):
transitioning to middle school, which is a rough part.
If they did transition tomiddle school, you know they
didn't parents homeschool themfor part of elementary and then
sent them to middle school whenthey was, you know, getting out
of the fifth grade, and so thatwas drastically a shocker for
them.
You know what I'm saying.
So we're back at it, though.
Hey, we do what we do.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
So tomorrow's the day
.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
Summers are off still
, so we love it.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
Yeah, we'll be with
kiddos tomorrow.
I'll be supporting some of theschools I support by being there
helping on the first day.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
And you'll be with
all your kiddos.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
Yeah, and it's a
little nervous for me because
I'm starting a.
It's not a brand new position, because I'd had the position
when I first moved into thecounty, but for eight years I
was doing PE again you knowwhich is what I got my degree in
.
You know health and physicaleducation, so I was teaching
health and then I was teachingclasses in PE and now I'm back
(10:28):
into the classroom as a supportteacher with special education.
So, which is cool, you know?
One, I got a job.
Two, I'm going to always do mybest at everything I put my foot
in and the time allows me tostep away from coaching and work
on my practicum and internshiphours.
For my was this be my fourthdegree?
(10:51):
Yeah, my fourth degree for mysecond master for clinical
mental health counseling.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Lifelong learner.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
Yep, yep, it is.
So I don't know if we're boringy'all with this educational
talk, yeah, but let's get downto LA.
So the reason that we went toLA is because this year we're in
the 30th year anniversary forthe first episode of Road Rules.
(11:23):
For the first episode of RoadRules and for those of you that
need a little reminder of whatRoad Rules is or was it is a
reality show that started in1995.
And it is the sister show, soto speak, of real world.
Real world, they stayed in ahouse, you know film six
(11:43):
strangers, you know, goingthrough whatever.
But Road Rules was sixstrangers in an RV traveling
around the world maybe the US orwherever and doing crazy
missions and things like that inorder to replenish their
money's supply.
And so this was the 30th yearanniversary for it.
(12:03):
And so Challenge Mania, whichis another podcast.
They invited several people whowere integral parts and road
rules to Los Angeles to be on apanel and, you know, just
introduce and be a meet andgreet, stuff like that.
And it was great to do itbecause I got a chance to see
some of my cast members.
Well, well, one of my castmembers, susie, who was with me
(12:25):
on season six in Australia.
Speaker 1 (12:27):
And then we saw Tina,
we saw and Tina was with you
when you were on the challenge.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
Yeah, my partner in
Challenge, All Stars and Mark
and I did the very first RoadRules Challenge Road Rules
versus Real World Challenge andwe won.
So technically I am like one ofthe first champions of the show
of the challenge.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
Um they won $2.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
It was more than $2,
but it was like it wasn't what
it is now and I can tell youthat.
Um, and we, we just saw a lot ofdifferent people, and so when
they called me and said theywere doing it, and I was like yo
.
And so when they called me andsaid they were doing it, and I
was like yo, I'm going, you know, I'm going to be there.
I told Kria.
I said, hey, I'm going to LA,I'm going to make a final way to
go to LA.
(13:11):
And she was like, oh, I'm going.
And I was like, but you'll beat work, I'm going, you know.
So she was like and we're goingto, and the boys are going, and
I was like yo, this is dope, let's go because this would no.
No, I did not say, the boys aregoing at first no, but I'm
saying, okay, yeah, I'm puttingit all together, okay, go.
And so you know we was likethis would be cool, because this
(13:32):
is the first time that we'vebeen to LA since we left LA in
2006.
Yes, because we used to livethere.
We lived there for three years.
We got married in 2003, movedto LA.
Boom, like a week later and wewere in LA and, you know, twins
(13:54):
were born and it was like yo,it's expensive and tough, we
need some more help.
So we moved, packed up thefamily and moved to Georgia and
we went to LA and it was great.
It was so cool to to have theboys there and show them things
that we talked about.
The weather was amazing.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
Yes, the weather was
so good because here in Georgia
is so aside of today.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
Today is amazing.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
Yeah, today's amazing
, but it's so hot and so I
thought, because I've beenhearing, I hadn't really watched
the weather in la, but the lastcouple of years it's been hot
in the summertime, um, in la,and I was thinking, oh my gosh,
thank goodness we weren't there, because I remember in our
apartment there is no centralair.
Um, there was, you know, youdidn't really need it, yeah, it
(14:45):
was just so nice and um, so Iimagine when we went, when we
were going there, that it wasgoing to be hot and we got off
of the plane, yeah, and I guesswe didn't really realize, we got
ready to go get the rental carand everything in the shade yeah
, we were like oh, oh, my gosh alittle breeze just the breeze
and I was like in the shade andI was like, oh, let let me get
in the sun.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
Yeah, you had to get
in the sun.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
It is chilly.
So that weather was like oh,can we package this weather up
and take it back to Georgia?
Speaker 2 (15:11):
Clear skies.
Yeah, beautiful, very beautifulskies.
And then we got our rental car.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
And we were driving
to one of my former students.
And we were driving to one ofmy former students.
She lived about 50, 60, I thinkit was like 60 miles, 62 miles
outside of the airport of LAX.
Speaker 1 (15:31):
Yeah, it was like 52
maybe, but anywho somewhere
between 50 and 60.
It was 60.
Speaker 2 (15:35):
Okay, that's what
Google the map said.
Okay, I stand corrected, so wegot in there, because I said
that was 20 miles an hour.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
Yeah, that was the
average.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
Yes, okay, it took us
three hours to get 60 miles.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
Yeah, from the
airport to Corona California,
from the airport to Corona, yes,and that was like 2.30.
About 2.30.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
Yeah, 2.30 we got on
the road and I was like yo, this
is, and I didn't.
I'm not going to say it was anaccident.
It wasn't an accident becauseof course they could have
cleared it out before we gotthere, but we never saw an
accident.
It was just bumper to bumpertraffic, and even that it was
like leaving the airport wastougher than I remember, you
(16:26):
know, back in the days.
It was just, it was crowded andso, you know, we went out there
, we spent time with them andthen we came back.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
Wait, wait, wait,
wait.
Oh, go ahead.
We forgot to talk about thedrama before we even got there.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
What was the drama
before?
Speaker 1 (16:45):
So listen, a couple
of nights before we were going
to la, we were talking to our ladaughter we were talking to our
la daughter britney oh yeah andshe was like okay, uh, mom,
where y'all staying?
And, um, I called britney, ourla daughter, britney because she
(17:07):
is one of Keefla's or Kee's oldstudents when he taught in
California and she we have juststayed so connected to her.
Speaker 2 (17:17):
Yes, she's been out
here a few times.
Speaker 1 (17:19):
She's been to visit
us.
She met us for Kee's 40thbirthday in Vegas.
Like, we have just stayedconnected every birthday, we
talk, we talk all the time.
So that's our baby there and so, um, we were talking to her.
She's like where y'all staying?
So we had planned to have anairbnb.
Now y'all know I'm on this likeeveryday running, I have to
(17:43):
have a place to run.
So the first airbnb we pickedwas in baldwin hills.
We had told them about that one.
They're like yeah, that area isgreat because I was thinking
I'd run outside but in la, younever know you could run two
blocks and all of a sudden it'slike don't run in this
neighborhood it changes, and sothat made me a little bit
nervous.
So we said, well, let's just doa condo that has a workout gym,
(18:05):
and so we chose this condo.
We thought it's great.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
It had great reviews
it did the reviews, like
everybody was saying great stuff.
It's near the, uh like the pierand everything.
It was uh marina del rey, likeright up in that area.
Speaker 1 (18:19):
We just, oh yeah, we
thought we were fine, so we
shared the address with her andshe was like, next thing we knew
, um, her husband was calling.
And he was like next thing weknew her husband was calling and
he was like, yeah, ok, staythere.
We were like why can't we staythere?
And he was like there is a bigcriminal that is in that
(18:52):
building that we aresurveillancing.
So area is always, always beingcalled.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
We are there, he's
and I was like what?
Speaker 1 (18:55):
and I was like,
listen, we get there thursday,
y'all can't get them by thursday.
And he was like y'all can'tstay there, he goes.
No, just let's make sure it'sthe right building and I can
make sure that.
What I was is that y'all aretalking about the same place
that I'm talking about.
And so I did.
I texted or messaged the Airbnbguy and he was.
(19:15):
At first he was a littlehesitant.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
Yeah, he was.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
He was very hesitant,
he was hesitant about sharing
the name of the condo.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
The condo, the actual
building.
I'll give you the address whenyou get here.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
Yeah, he said I gave
you the address.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
Yeah, I gave you the
address and some more details,
like later, I was like no, no,no, no.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
We need to know now.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
And so he finally
shared it, and Dre was like
mm-mm, that's the place no.
That's the place.
Do not stay there.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
So then we looked up
the actual name of the apartment
that the Airbnb was located inthe apartment complex Come to
find out when we researched itthe apartment complex is a
low-income apartment, theapartment complex also.
The reviews from there weretotally different.
(20:02):
They was talking about how thislady gun was pulled on him in
the parking lot, selling drugs.
Selling drugs in the parkinglot, selling drugs.
Selling drugs in the parkinglot, homeless people in the
parking lot, harassing people inthe hallways, getting into the
building, you know, defecatingin the hallways and all kinds of
stuff.
And so this is the same spotthat had good reviews on Airbnb.
(20:24):
So, folks, if you out theretrying to get an Airbnb, get all
the information you can aboutthese places because they make
them look good, and then it'stotally different.
And I know most people say well, airbnb reviews, if they're
good, are you supposed to?
Speaker 1 (20:40):
go by that.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
Hey, trust me we was
thinking the same thing until we
went and reviewed the place andwe saw that those reviews on
Google and on whatever elseapartment sites were off the
chain.
Speaker 1 (20:52):
Yes, so praise Jesus.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
That we had to
connect.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
That was able to kind
of look into it.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
Now the other praise
Jesus part was on the thing it
said non-refundable Right and wejust thought we had just lost
all of this money and I waswilling to fourteen hundred
dollars, I was like well, it iswhat it is, we just lost
fourteen hundred.
Let's get a hotel, and I'm noteven thinking twice about it
anything else.
Fourteen hundred dollars belike dang.
That's messed up, yeah it ain'tlike we got it.
(21:19):
I was just like I'd rather losefourteen hundred dollars than
for us to be there and it turnsinto a trip from hell, or even
have to worry about fighting forour life or whatever.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
Listen the only thing
that would have been left of us
would have been a chalk outline.
That's what I was envisioning.
And I said we are not stayingthere.
Speaker 2 (21:40):
It would have been
three chalks before it had been
four, because they wouldn't getin Keith Anywho.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
So I was on that chat
back and forth with airbnb and
then finally the uh host of thatplace.
But I think he knew once.
I knew where it was.
He knew because immediatelywhen I sent him the message um
about, we don't feel comfortablesaying there what are all the
(22:06):
things?
Speaker 2 (22:06):
that we said and all
the stuff like that he said I
will give you your full refund.
Speaker 1 (22:13):
Yep, and so we were
able to get a refund, thank
goodness.
Um, I was like thank you, lord,he always takes care of us.
I was like, thank you, and sothat works out perfectly.
Then we were able to becausethey had a host hotel.
But we, we were able to becausethey had a host hotel, but we,
like our boys, are 21.
So we want them to have theirown space and all the things and
(22:34):
trying to get two rooms in onespace.
We had just come back fromTulum.
Just financially it was likethat's a lot of money to spend.
And so we just really wanted tohave a space that had two rooms
, two bathrooms, like more, youknow, like that.
Space that had two rooms, twobathrooms, like more, you know,
like that.
So anyway, we kept looking, andright across the street from
where everyone else was staying, and there was the burton
(22:55):
beverly house.
Yeah, the burton house that wasin beverly hills loved it.
It was perfect it had twobedrooms, two bathrooms, um they
her treadmill, so it had theworkout room so I could do my
running every day that I neededto do.
The staff there was super nice, like we walk in, no matter what
time you walked in there I waslike hey they were super nice
(23:18):
yeah they had a beautiful bar.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
I mean it was very
nice and it was in a perfect
location location, yeah, so itall worked out and right around
the corner was your coffee bean, coffee beanery.
You could get your.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
Coffee bean that had
the cookie butter latte that I
thought I could only get at theAtlanta airport in Terminal A in
Delta, but I was able to getthere.
I think I got it two timeswhile I was there, so that was
really nice.
But it turned out nice.
But listen, we was almost dead.
Yeah, yeah, we was almost dead.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
Yeah, yeah, we was
almost dead.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
Okay, go ahead and
talk about going to Brittany's.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
So back to the
traffic.
You know it was just bananas.
You know I didn't.
You know LA has traffic.
You know, we know that, but itwas crazy.
It was crazy and we, you knowwe got there, enjoyed ourselves.
They have a beautiful home inthe middle of I ain't going to
say nowhere, but nowherecompared to LA.
Speaker 1 (24:14):
Yeah, compared to LA,
yeah.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
It's out there.
You know, like the same thingwhen people say to us, you know,
we say Atlanta area, and thenwhen they drive out they'll be
like man y'all in the middle ofnowhere, and so, but we had a
great time with them.
And then we drove into la uh,because the next morning I had a
um audition, slight auditionwith uh, um c to the b
(24:40):
productions.
Well, c to the b production isuh, when I used to do hip-hop
harry, I Hip Hop Harry 2.
Go, harry, yeah, go, harry, go,go, go, go.
Speaker 1 (24:51):
Oh yeah, that's what
it was Go, go go.
Speaker 2 (24:54):
I was in the costume
and the other guy that was in
the costume was Barney.
For like 15 years he used to beBarney for 15 years this was in
2006 when we filmed this and sohe was the main character.
Now I did, you know, I did likenine episodes of Hip Hop Eric,
and so what he does now isClaude.
He owns Well, he, he works withSnoop Dogg to do his Dollyland
(25:19):
cartoon slash live events, liveshows, and so they needed
someone to be a stand in for theBowizle character.
That Snoop Dogg what do youwant to call it?
They call it character acting.
And so you know me, with mygreat history of being the best
mascot that Alabama State hasever had in the history of the
(25:43):
university.
You know I got a chance to showmy chops again in the Bow
Whistle costume.
So I went there and did alittle audition and you know I
smashed it, I killed it and wedid.
We did some stuff for socialmedia, so you'll see it out
there.
We'll kind of tag it in there.
But it was great just to dothat too, because when Hip Hop
(26:04):
Harry the night we finishedfilming and we had our rap party
, my older brother, kurtz, got achance to go on set.
The twins were on set for ashort moment, kriya was on set,
yeah, and your mom and my momwas on set.
And then we moved the next day.
The next day we got in theU-Haul, they flew out, me and
(26:24):
Kurtz drove all across toGeorgia and so to go full circle
for the boys' first day back inLA, to really be back with that
to see me.
You know, see some work that Idid to meet the creator, to meet
David who does Hip Hop, harrystill and Bowie still.
I was like that's like a fullcircle moment.
(26:46):
You know what I'm saying?
Because out of all the stuffI've done acting wise and
reality TV wise hip hop here isprobably one of my proudest
because of the people that ittouched and because I love
performing for kids.
And it was just amazing, butthat was Friday, what else we?
Speaker 1 (27:04):
did.
So that was Friday.
So Friday, that was a big chunkof the day on that friday.
And then, um, we let you gohome and shower, I mean to the
to hotel, and shower, and thenwe did sushi.
Did we go see evelyn that day?
We did sushi and then, aftersushi we did, we went to go see
we that's when we did the drive.
(27:25):
So the boys were able to go seewhere they were born, the
hospital where they were born.
They hear us talk about allthese things, but they don't.
They've never.
I mean, they were there butthey don't remember right.
Um, and so we took them by thehospital where they were born
and then we also took them bywhere we used to live and we had
them take a picture in front ofthe apartment Well, duplex,
(27:49):
kind of it's for rent again, because let me tell y'all that's
a horror story too when welived in California am I talking
too loud?
No, you're good, I just want tomake sure you know.
When we lived in California, the first place, when it was
just Key and I before the boys, our one bedroom was in a it used
to be Villa Azure.
Villa Azure bedroom was in avilla.
Speaker 2 (28:08):
It used to be villa
azure, and you know, basketball
players celebrities used to staywe didn't know that.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
Yes, you know we
didn't know that we just got a
good deal that's where we were, and then from there we had the
boys to have more space.
Um, we ended up renting like alittle two-bedroom triplex.
And that lady was crazy.
That was our um landlord.
I mean.
She would say the rent was lateand all these things.
(28:34):
She made it so challenging, like to get extra money, well, I
mean.
And then I don't know why wedidn't expect that when we
decided to move she was gonna beeven crazier so, anywho, we go
by there for the boys to take apicture, and the same apartment
is still for rent and the crazything about it is remember
britney would always keep usposted before she moved to
corona.
Speaker 2 (28:53):
Britney would always
say mom, dad, guess what?
I drove by?
Y'all all play your old placeagain and it's for rent.
Or then somebody be in thereand then she was like guess
what's for rent?
Again, we say not the apartment, yes, so she's always needing
tenants, or I don even want tosay she, because she may have
sold it or whatever.
Who knows what has happened.
But maybe it's a curse on herbecause they mistreated us.
(29:13):
That's right, because we areGod's favorites.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
That is, we are God's
favorites and listen they.
I mean, she was crazy.
She was awful, but anywho, welet.
We took them by there.
Speaker 2 (29:24):
Went by your school
when I used to work.
Speaker 1 (29:29):
We went by my school
Because it was right around the
block From where we used to live.
Yeah, so we went by where Iused to work, where I used to
teach, and we went by where youused to teach.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
Yeah, westchester.
Speaker 1 (29:36):
Westchester and I was
a parent in Englewood and we
also got to see my privateJewish school.
I taught at Harkam.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
Hill, that that was
crazy.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
Yeah, we drove by and
I said I think that's harlem
and I was like that is so.
I used to work at a privatejewish school in beverly hills.
Speaker 2 (29:51):
It actually was right
around the corner from the
hotel we stayed where we'resaying yeah, not too yet,
because we didn't know thatuntil we came back again.
Speaker 1 (29:57):
We said wait a minute
, that's the school right there
so then we passed by that one ofmy old students there that I
sometimes talk to on socialmedia, danielle.
I said, danielle, I'm thinkingabout you.
Um, she's not in la anymore, but I I sent her a message just
to let her know I thought abouther when I passed by there and
um, then we went on to visit um,our aunt in um long beach, and
(30:19):
evelyn, yeah, yeah, that sheused to keep the boys, so we got
a chance to see her, um, hergrandson papa and her son emma.
Speaker 2 (30:29):
Uh, we got a chance
to see them and I spent time
with them for a minute, laughedand joked around like we always
do it, ain't evelyn?
And then, um, I hate that mycousin daryl and shara were in
jamaica uh enjoying uh eachother because they were uh
celebrating their 25th rightyeah 25th wedding anniversary.
(30:52):
But that was our road dogs whenwe lived in LA.
We could just be with themlaughing and joking all day long
.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
We always had a good
time all day, but they were away
so and they were actually inone of our.
They were at one of ourfavorite all inclusive resorts
away.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
So you know, and they
were actually in one of our,
they were at one of our favorite.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
Yeah, um all
inclusive resorts, the
excellence um oyster bay injamaica so they were there
enjoying that.
But, um, yeah, we really weresad that they weren't there, but
we know they were having aamazing time and so that was
Friday, saturday.
Speaker 2 (31:28):
What did we do
Saturday?
Saturday was the.
Was that the food day?
Yeah, saturday was food day.
Speaker 1 (31:35):
Oh yeah, saturday was
a food day.
We went to the where's thepancakes?
Speaker 2 (31:39):
Oh, yeah, ooh, to the
griddle, the griddle, the
griddle off of Sunset.
The griddle off of Sunset ishuge.
Pancakes man, 16 bucks.
We got three.
I got.
What was it?
Speaker 1 (31:54):
I don't even know the
diameter of those pancakes they
have to be.
What's the diameter you think?
Speaker 2 (31:58):
I'll say 10 inch,
like a pizza yeah.
Speaker 1 (32:00):
Three of them.
Speaker 2 (32:01):
Three of them thick.
They were about, oh man, probably about four inches.
Yeah, maybe four or five inchesthick, ridiculous, the stack
itself.
And you got three big pancakes, man, and it was insane.
So I just cut me like a wedgebetween all three, just like one
little which would be like aslice of pizza, and that was it.
I'm serious.
It was like I probably atemaybe a fifth of the pancake and
(32:27):
the rest of it we didn't eventake it with us, it was just too
much um, but it's, they werestill so good man, we went there
and then went to tokyo?
yeah, we went to little tokyo indowntown la yeah, our boys are
really into uh anime, and animeand japanese culture we once had
um, that's also our.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
We have another
daughter yeah, how the way how
the way she's in japan um.
She lives um near tokyo in umshe's from satama satama.
She's from satama.
Yeah, um, and she comes.
Speaker 2 (33:01):
It seems like she's
coming every three, every three
years she'll come, she comes andshe stays a week or so with us.
Speaker 1 (33:07):
But yeah, that's
another.
We have a daughter all the wayover here.
Speaker 2 (33:10):
Yeah, because she was
our exchange student Stayed the
whole senior year she extendedher trip to stay with us more.
Yeah, she stayed with us thewhole year.
Speaker 1 (33:17):
And then she asked
because she stayed through the
summer.
We were like, of course, youcan stay.
So she stayed with us past ayear of school school so yes, so
the boys really like that andum, so we did the tokyo little
tokyo.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
It's pretty cool, you
know.
I had some good little stuffthere, had a dope shoe store
there well, you got some niceshirts.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
Oh, I did from uh up
and coming, oh, man, what's it
called from flowers?
Speaker 2 (33:43):
I forget no, for for
you flowers or something.
Anyway, I'll I'll tag him man,it's dope, you'll be wearing him
pretty soon.
Uh, hat and everything, butyeah, it was real dope.
Um, and you see, after that weleft downtown, did we go get
something to eat that night?
Speaker 1 (34:01):
we did it, we went.
The boys really wanted to tryjolly bean oh yeah, jolly bee.
Speaker 2 (34:05):
yeah, they had a list
of stuff.
Speaker 1 (34:07):
We wanted to go to
Pink's we did go by Pink's, but
the line was ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
Yeah, it was too long
.
Speaker 1 (34:14):
And then we saw
Marathon Burger, nipsey Hussle's
, that line was ridiculousBecause that was on Melrose.
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (34:17):
So I used to love to
go to Melrose.
I actually kind of wanted tostop at Melrose and just walk
and thrift stores and stuff, like that man it was.
I mean vintage stores, I'msorry, not thrift stores, but
vintage stores.
But then we whipped back around, went to Jollibee and Jollibee
is crazy because it has friedchicken.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
It's Korean fried
chicken, by the way.
Speaker 2 (34:41):
Yeah, okay, that's
what I didn't know.
It's Korean fried chicken, soKorean fried chicken and
spaghetti.
Speaker 1 (34:48):
Yes, but it's korean
spaghetti because it got hot
dogs in.
It got hot dogs or some kind ofdog and that's, that's country
black spaghetti right there.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
That's some spaghetti
o's in a can.
That's what that is and that'swhy the korean folks like us so
much because we everything isthe same, yeah, but uh, we
enjoyed that spicy chicken fromJollibee Delicious.
Come on now.
What they said gave Popeye's arun for the money.
Actually, it's better, I think.
Speaker 1 (35:14):
Kimani thought
Popeye's was better he thought
Popeye's was better.
I don't know, I don't know.
I feel like it was just, Idon't know, the season was
through.
Speaker 2 (35:23):
Jollibee got them.
Jollibee got them.
Yeah, it was very good.
It was very, very good.
So shout out to Jollibee, whichare a convenient chicken.
You need an open one.
You know down here in the Southand it's off the chain.
And of course they love Jack.
Was it Jack in the Box?
Speaker 1 (35:43):
We did Jack in the
Box on when we first got there.
Speaker 2 (35:46):
Yeah, first got there
and then In-N-Out the day we
left.
Speaker 1 (35:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (35:49):
And so okay, then
Sunday.
Speaker 1 (35:51):
No, and then Saturday
y'all had y'all's pre-party.
Speaker 2 (35:56):
Oh, and you ran into
that.
Y'all saw the one.
Speaker 1 (35:59):
I'm not going to say
who it was.
Why not?
Because maybe they do not wantpeople to know that they were
out at a bar.
All almost people didn't knowthat they were out at a bar.
All almost hunching in the barin the corner.
Speaker 2 (36:17):
I'm not going to
share that actress or actors put
it like this you share it andit gets back to her.
Speaker 1 (36:21):
That means we're
ready, we're about to blow up
your weight okay, well, I don'teven remember her name, but I
can tell y' you what she laid on.
Speaker 2 (36:29):
But the place, what
was the bar called Saddle Ranch?
Saddle Ranch off of Sunset.
Yes, saddle Ranch off of Sunset, pretty cool spot.
This is what good little barchill spot.
Celebrities come there, youknow often People.
It's a good little place.
The parking lot was amazing.
Amazing how the lights andstuff was laid out really
beautiful free to get in in a.
(36:50):
You would have paid something toget in to that.
I think so if you're gonna havesome people that pop in there I
think it just depends on thecrowd that does that isn't?
Oh no, man, it's just yeah Idon't know, but we do know that
uh, a x xl suv was 30 bucks inla for uber, as opposed to here
(37:13):
being 90 or 60 dollars, even ifyou're only going two miles yeah
, it wasn't at all that priceyto get to get that.
Speaker 1 (37:20):
I was surprised that
it was because we were tired of
being stuck in traffic anddriving and I won't say I wasn't
driving but riding in trafficbecause he did all the driving.
But the traffic in LA isridiculous.
Speaker 2 (37:32):
Yeah, even in the
side streets.
Now it's gotten crazy.
Yeah, it's just so bad.
Speaker 1 (37:36):
We were like I think
one place was like four miles
from the hotel and it took uslike 30 minutes, yeah, no less
than 30 minutes for four milesTo get there, and it was just
too much.
So we also wanted to be able togo out and drink and not worry
about driving, and that you knowit's a good example for our new
21-year-old.
Yes for our new 21-year-old.
Speaker 2 (37:57):
So we got you got a
ride, share we got a.
Speaker 1 (38:02):
I think it was.
Was it Lyft?
Yes?
Speaker 2 (38:04):
Yeah, it was Lyft.
Speaker 1 (38:05):
It was Lyft black.
What was it?
Suburban, suburban, yeah andyeah, I was surprised by the
price that it was like 37 35dollars to get us to where we
were going stepped out of thatthing, like charles and nev,
yeah charles, your lunch isready yeah, anyway.
Speaker 2 (38:30):
Um, but there this
celebrity, she was there and uh,
so I well, let me tell you whatshe played on hold on after
after, when we got there, it wasjust for everybody to meet up
with each other, so we met.
That's where I met up with alot of the people.
I did the the recent challengewith and road rules with.
Uh ran into, uh, taylor hale, which was cool, the first black,
uh female to win um big brother, big brother.
(38:51):
So that was dope.
She was very sweet, yeah, very, very sweet person and so we ran
into you know people there andthen we were distracted by all
of that making out-ish stuff.
And bullshit At the bar andthen they went over to the pool
table and it was like they werefilming.
Speaker 1 (39:13):
Yeah, it really was
almost like they were filming.
They were a vibe honey.
They were really into oneanother she played in Paradise,
Yep Paradise.
Speaker 2 (39:24):
The show Paradise
with Sterling K Brown.
Speaker 1 (39:27):
And she was in Sex
Life.
Is that the name of?
Speaker 2 (39:31):
it.
I think something like that.
Speaker 1 (39:32):
I think it is called
Sex Life.
Speaker 2 (39:33):
Yeah, she was in.
My boys say she was in RushHour 3.
Mm-hmm, yeah.
Speaker 1 (39:41):
Oh yeah, it was Sex
Life.
Speaker 2 (39:42):
Yeah, so you know we
let y'all go from there, let
y'all figure out who it is.
Yeah, but she was.
I mean, hey, ain't nothingwrong with it, you know you out
there.
But hey, okay, then go ahead.
It's a bad self, but uh, that'swhat we did that night.
Got back to the crib and, youknow, enjoyed ourselves, went to
sleep.
Speaker 1 (40:00):
Uh the drinks were so
big, though Ginormous, I
ordered a drink.
It was what are the thingscalled.
Speaker 2 (40:08):
Is it A carafay, a
carafay, yeah, something like
that.
Speaker 1 (40:11):
C-A-R-A-F-E.
Speaker 2 (40:12):
Yeah, yeah, it came
in that it was ridiculously
large.
King Money.
We turned around, it was gone.
Speaker 1 (40:19):
Yeah, he said because
it wasn't good so I just
chugged it.
Yeah, just chugged, and I waslike, listen if somebody else is
buying your drinks and youdon't like it.
Yeah, it was on them.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
Yeah, that night was
the drinks that were on, and
then Sunday we went to Brea.
Speaker 1 (40:38):
That was the day of
the show.
Speaker 2 (40:39):
Yeah, that was the
day of the show.
So we drove to Brea, which wasabout an hour outside of LA, and
that's where we had the showsat Brea Comedy Club, improv,
brea Improv and so we did ourthing on stage.
It was where we had the shows atbraille comedy club improv,
improv, braille improv, and so,uh, you know, we did our thing
on stage.
It was real cool because theyhad a tribute video, uh, to
people saying, uh, you know, happy birthday, road rules.
(41:02):
Uh, you know people fromdifferent shows and stuff, um, I
couldn't tell you who they wereright now.
You know right off the bat, um,but uh, it was cool, cool
attribute.
And they had another videoshowing all the different
seasons of Road Rules, showingus winning our Hampson Rewards.
You know, at the end, back then, that's when nobody was getting
voted off you know you werestaying together.
(41:24):
You learned who the characterswere, who the people were, and
many of us grew through thosemoments.
You know, and you know, ourHampson Reward was a motorcycle
that I still have to this day atmy parents.
Speaker 1 (41:37):
Um, and y'all had
some old producers there.
Speaker 2 (41:40):
Yeah, we had old
producers.
We had casting directors.
My casting director, the guywho found me at Alabama state,
was there.
Um, shout out to my boy, kennyHull.
Um, he's been dope ever since,I mean just from day one.
I used to go to LA and I wouldstay with him.
We hung out with Cyrus.
Speaker 1 (41:57):
Cyrus was there oh
yeah, you know they had.
Cyrus is from Road Rule, I meanfrom.
Speaker 2 (42:02):
Real World.
Real World, boston.
Yeah, and you know, so it was.
It was real cool, man, it'salways cool to meet people who
who think that what you did wascool.
It's always cool to meet peoplewho think that what you did was
cool.
Speaker 1 (42:13):
But the coolest thing
was that the boys got to see.
So they hear their dad talkabout rule, rules and they've
seen some of the videos with thesnake and all those things.
But we let them, we took ourcamera and for them to kind of
get pictures, because whenyou're there there are real fans
.
And for them to kind of getpictures because when you're
(42:35):
there there are real fans, likeyeah, I've been, this is maybe
like maybe my fourth one I'vebeen to, third or fourth one
I've been to um, and people arereally there and they just
really love I mean the, the castfrom the real people from the
real world, and the role rulesand fans of reality really true
fans, like I remember one ladyand key has this book there.
(42:56):
It's like a uh, a road rulesbook, um, that they sold and it
has pictures of all of them andshe had been saving this book
because she said one day I'mgonna meet kefla and she brought
that book from way from the 90sto have to bring to him to sign
in one of the meet and greetsand so for them to be able to
(43:17):
see how much people love his dadand wanted his autograph and
wanted a hug and wanted apicture with him and all the
things.
I thought that was a cool thingfor them to be able to
experience and see that maybetheir dad is cool.
So that was neat for them to beable to have that share in that
(43:38):
experience.
And then even the coolest thing, like they're 21, so we're
sitting back in our little boothwatching him and can order like
our appetizer and a littlesomething to drink, and it just
was just a cool a grown upexperience with them, and so I
thought that was really cool forthem to, for them to be able to
actually see it and not for usjust to come home and talk about
(44:01):
it.
Speaker 2 (44:01):
Yeah, I wanted to
think when you're saying how
people you know appreciated us,it was big for me because at
school, you know, the boys wentto school with me and they, you
know, they know how to.
Oh, the students love my dad,the student love coach.
You know the boys went toschool with me and they, you
know, they know how to.
Oh, the students love my dad,the student love coach, you know
whatever.
And you know, for them to seeit in a wider scale, like that,
(44:22):
for people who've only seen me afew times or don't have the
everyday interaction, that meanta lot because it made them
really say, like my dad is kindof special.
You know what I mean and youcould see that and I mean they
know it.
But but, like you said, it'sone thing for people that I work
with every day, but then forpeople that from around the way
(44:44):
to really want to talk and be inyour presence, you know that
that that was a good moment, agood father moment for me.
Man made me feel pretty softinside oh yeah.
Speaker 1 (44:57):
So yeah, we did that.
That was the majority of theday.
That's always a long day, yeah,um.
So we, yeah, that was tillalmost later in the evening, and
then we had dinner with britney.
Speaker 2 (45:09):
Yeah, we ended our
dinner.
Speaker 1 (45:11):
Uh-huh, we got up out
of there.
Yeah, I will.
I'm not going to talk about therestaurant.
Speaker 2 (45:16):
We got up out of
there.
Why are you going to talk aboutit?
Speaker 1 (45:18):
Listen y'all.
We love Brittany and Dre andthey wanted us to say they're
going to be mad if they listento this.
Speaker 2 (45:28):
Hey Britt, you hear
your mom, you hear your mom.
You always be mad at me.
Speaker 1 (45:34):
They want us to try
this Mexican restaurant.
Speaker 2 (45:39):
They said it's the
best Mexican food ever, and it
was good, I think, britt got alittle bougie now, yeah, she
done moved out of the wood, youknow, so she done, got a little
bougie, I mean.
So her Mexican taste has goingup the sky.
Speaker 1 (45:53):
It was pricey Mexican
.
I don't know if it should havebeen that pricey, but it was
very good.
You know it's pricey becauselisten, one of my sons who will
spend all your money and don'tthink twice about it.
If he look at the menu and sayempanadas $35 for some empanadas
who buying that?
You know Right.
If he say it, you know it'sexpensive because he'll spend
(46:16):
all your money.
If you take him out to eat, hedon't care about the price, he
gonna order whatever he want.
so for him to say that I said ohyeah, and then he'll say, oh, I
didn't know what the limit washe'll say I don't know what the
limit was, I just got lobsterrisotto right, that's what he'll
do and won't think two centsabout it.
He even looked at the drinkmenu and said a margarita 28 we
(46:40):
all had water that night.
Margarita 28 now for me, likeprices like that, I like I.
I would prefer like to spend ittowards like a nice steakhouse
or something like that, um, butnot towards I love mexican but
if I'm gonna spend like moneymoney, I want a good steak like
(47:01):
little alley is one of ourfavorite steak places um, you
know I'm gonna do seafood, soI'm going to the optimist to
spend that kind of yeah,optimist.
And then one of our, one of mynew favorite steak places that
we went to with our friends uh,marcells, I think that's what it
was called marcells okay thategg and poe.
Oh, that steak from there thatwe went with.
Uh, megan and poe, that was.
(47:22):
That was real well I didn't likemy um have y'all been to the
place where they bring you yourfish and then they do all the
deboning magic for you?
Speaker 2 (47:33):
he did all that
deboning magic only for there
still to be bones when he leftTons of bones, not like it was
like a few, it was tons of bonesin there.
Speaker 1 (47:41):
So his deboning magic
did not work, did not work at
all, and the fish was greasy.
Speaker 2 (47:45):
Yes, I didn't even
eat it all.
No, it wasn't good, but theirsteak was good.
Speaker 1 (47:50):
My steak was so good.
But that's our group.
Speaker 2 (47:52):
I love going out with
them.
We can go out with them andit's never an issue.
The only thing is about we'rearguing about pain.
Like you pain, we're like, ohno, we got it.
So I love when we go with themlike that man.
That's pretty dope.
We always have a good time.
It's always family.
Speaker 1 (48:14):
And we went to that
restaurant afterwards.
They're friends.
Those drinks were amazing,amazing.
Speaker 2 (48:17):
I wish we could
remember the name of it.
We'll talk about that later.
Speaker 1 (48:23):
It was Thai, it's a
Thai restaurant.
Speaker 2 (48:26):
That was just an
interesting night because our
waitress, she painted everythingon the inside customized.
Speaker 1 (48:35):
Then the next day I
was on to a conference, work
conference, and they were tryingto do shots, shots, shots,
shots.
I said, listen, I got to get upand go to this conference.
I cannot.
They were like, oh, you'll befine, but it's always a good
time with the two of them.
Speaker 2 (48:53):
So let's see, After
we left the Mexican restaurant,
we went back to our hotel.
Since we didn't buy drinks, wehad some some stuff that we
bought from.
Speaker 1 (49:05):
Yeah, it was actually
a spark from the little Tokyo.
It was a sparkling plum wine, yeah, sparkling plum wine.
We never had the sparkling plumyeah.
Speaker 2 (49:13):
It was pretty good,
yeah and um, and that was it,
and then we flew back, uh, andoh, and to end our trip.
Speaker 1 (49:24):
To end the trip, it's
always a crazy beginning or
ending, ending and so we arelike oh, not too far, we're
halfway home.
Halfway home and the lady fromDelta calls and says yes, do you
have your luggage?
I say, yes, ma'am, I have myluggage.
Are you sure?
(49:45):
I'm sure I got my luggage?
Well, I got a bag here rightnow.
Do you have a Samsung?
Now, listen y'all, I don't knowthe brand of my luggage.
We've had the luggage for solong yeah, I don't know what it
is.
And she says you have asamsonite, is it samsonite?
I said no, does it have a lockon it?
I didn't even realize it had alock on it.
I said no, no, she was goingall and I said I don't think
(50:10):
that's mine.
So then I told you, I said canwe just pull over?
So we had the boys in the backsaid can y'all please look?
They look, honey, I gotsomebody else's luggage, so I
call the lady back.
I said we, I do, I do have like.
So we had to turn all the wayback around.
Speaker 2 (50:24):
Now, mind you, from
our house 10, 30, 10, 30 our
house.
Speaker 1 (50:29):
the airport to our
house is about 45 to an hour
drive, so we had to go back tothe airport.
I felt bad because whoever'sbag I had, they were waiting on
their bag.
So I felt bad about that.
I will say I was not the one topick up my bag off of the
carousel, the person sittingnext to me did?
Speaker 2 (50:50):
I grabbed it.
I sure did.
I was ready to go.
Anywho, so I get there neverseen a luggage, so any luggage
that looked exactly like ours no, because it really is not.
One that's like a black one, oryeah, I mean it's like electric
blue yeah and it's yeah, neverand it was, it was right after.
Yeah, we got, because I got oneand then I said, oh, there's
(51:11):
the other one and I snatched, snatched, just like that.
Speaker 1 (51:13):
Yep, and so sure that
was crazy.
I went back up there to give itback and the girl saw me with
her bag, because our bags lookare identical.
So I went up and the ladies, and here go the lady.
Now this is Atlanta airport, sowhen y'all things where?
Speaker 2 (51:29):
people talk about
Atlanta.
It's true.
Speaker 1 (51:31):
It's true.
This is what she said to me.
Oh, I thought you said youdidn't have it.
I asked you was it Samsonite?
You said no.
I said, does it have a lock?
You said no, I guess you don'tknow your luggage.
I said I guess I don't, and soI just took it a whiff.
I was like good Lord, just giveme the suitcase.
I mean.
(51:52):
So by the time it was all saidand done, we hadn't eaten
because the flight is four hours, and so we finally just did
Whataburger, and we got homeabout 1230.
Yeah, and I was the only onewho had to get up and go.
Oh no, I'm sorry, that was LA.
You had to go to work too.
Yeah.
So we both had to get up and goto work the next day.
(52:14):
But yeah, it was a long night, but it always ends with
something, and that was theending.
Speaker 2 (52:20):
Yeah, we're going to
have an adventure on every trip
some kind of way, but we'realways also favored too, like it
always works out for us, but itgives us something to talk
about and laugh about.
I don't know why, but you know,it's just the way it works, but
I'm glad that we always comeout on top.
Speaker 1 (52:42):
And I will say I have
come to the thought process
although I didn't, but you kindof swayed me towards that way is
that if something happens thatputs you a little bit behind
schedule or you have to go outyour way to do this or do that,
I always think of what is itpreventing from happening?
Or like there is a reason forwhy things happen the way that
(53:04):
they happen.
And although it could make you,you know, a bit frustrated or
you're possibly late forsomething that I don't know, for
now I'm just like it is what itis.
I used to get all bent out ofshape and frazzled, but I always
feel like I've learned thatlife, things happen the way
they're supposed to happen, forwhatever that reason may be.
Speaker 2 (53:26):
Yeah, and I think
even sometimes it could just be
for you to take a beat and knowthat it's not the worst thing
that can happen.
You know, yes, you're a coupleminutes late, or you know you
forgot something at home.
Just turn around and go.
If you need it, get turn around, because if not, you're gonna
be constantly reminded that Idon't have x, y and z at work
(53:48):
and so it's like, oh, I can't dothis, oh, I can't grab it, I
can't get it, I can't, so justgo ahead, take your time, turn
around, get it.
Go back to work.
You're an adult.
You explain it to them.
They don't, um, accept your, you know, reasoning for being
late, that you didn't do itintentionally.
Speaker 1 (54:04):
That's on them and I
guess to think about it also if
now this happens often, then yougot to reeval yeah, you got to
reevaluate yourself.
Speaker 2 (54:10):
Yeah, yeah, you got
to reevaluate what's going on
with you.
Speaker 1 (54:13):
But things that
happen, not often Some stuff
happens not because of our fault.
Speaker 2 (54:18):
Yeah, you know what I
mean.
And you'd be like oh, it was anaccident.
Now I'm stuck in traffic.
Speaker 1 (54:21):
Right.
Speaker 2 (54:22):
Even when you did
leave on time.
You know what I'm saying, soit's not your fault.
But, like I said, you neverknow.
Know, did this accident preventme from being going through a
green light that somebody ran ared light of?
You know what I mean?
Did it?
Did it prevent me from beingnext to somebody swerving on the
highway, right?
(54:43):
So you never know.
And you know, as long as you'rein one piece, man, just stay
positive with it'll be all right.
There's worse things that couldbe going on right now.
So, and that was LA- that wasLA it was a nice.
Speaker 1 (54:59):
I think it was a very
nice vacation.
I really enjoyed it.
I loved the full circle momentsand opportunities to show boys
things that we talked about, andit was just really nice.
Only thing that wasn't nice wasthe traffic, but everything
else was perfect.
Speaker 2 (55:18):
The weather was
amazing.
Speaker 1 (55:20):
It was perfect.
Speaker 2 (55:21):
And we came back, we
was like oh, my God.
It was so hot.
It was so hot, I mean, it wasjust disrespectful how hot it
was, disrespectfully hot.
And it was like man we shouldhave.
Why can't we stay in LA?
But I understand why.
When we had to go to the gasstation and the car we was
renting it was like 580something.
Speaker 1 (55:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (55:42):
A gallon to fill up,
I was like oh no, yeah.
Speaker 1 (55:45):
Even just regular
places to eat, like going to the
coffee shop.
Speaker 2 (55:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (55:48):
And getting four
coffees and peanut butter toast.
Speaker 2 (55:51):
And where was that at
?
Speaker 1 (55:53):
Now I don't want to.
I'm not talking about thisplace because I will say my
coffee was amazing.
Speaker 2 (55:59):
It was good.
My PB&J jelly toast amazing andI wanted to support her and we
did.
Speaker 1 (56:11):
So, it was Hilltop
Coffee.
I think it's called HilltopCoffee.
Yeah, Hilltop Coffee.
Speaker 2 (56:13):
I think it's called
Hilltop.
Speaker 1 (56:13):
Coffee.
Yeah, hilltop, it is.
Issa Rae is has ownership inthat.
She's not the sole owner, butshe has ownership in that.
But we went to the one inEnglewood.
It was delish, it was great, but it was pricey.
And so the funny thing to kindof connect the two, I did a
(56:36):
training with the staff and Isaid something oh, when I talk
about being that, I used to workat a Jewish school in Beverly
Hills.
The young lady sitting next tome was from LA and she was
Jewish.
She said what was the name ofthe school?
I will know if I know it.
And she knew it.
And she said they moved from LA.
Was Jewish.
She said what was the name ofthe school?
I want to know if I know it.
And she knew it.
And she said they moved from LAtoo.
She says it's just so expensive, she goes.
(56:57):
When I went back, it remindedme we went somewhere.
It was like $15 for a cup ofcoffee or $15 for whatever it
was.
She goes.
And I was like, oh no, now thisis why.
And so things are.
Just see her there.
Speaker 2 (57:16):
I told her I saw, but
the coffee was delicious, but I
guess they do get paid morethere than what we get paid here
, so maybe it all balances out,it balances out.
Speaker 1 (57:20):
We went there with
our georgia money, so if we were
there with la money, maybe wewould have felt different yeah,
but we were there with ourgeorgia money and so, uh, but
the coffee was delicious.
Would I buy it again?
I absolutely would, if y'allhave not been to the coffee I
would go again, you know.
Speaker 2 (57:39):
And Delicious I like
the vibe it was.
The vibe was awesome, beautiful.
In the wood it was in like theyhad a lot of little like across
there was a little Black Beauty, you know, had the bookstore
across from that and I'm a fanof Issa man, so you know I'm
going to support everything shedo and she does.
(57:59):
I mean, like it was just cool,it was cool.
Speaker 1 (58:02):
It was really cool.
We were on our way to theairport, but I just think that
it was right.
Speaker 2 (58:08):
I mean five minutes
from where we used to live, so
it definitely would be a spotthat you probably, if we lived
where we live, we would havebeen there online just, you know
, using the wifi, whatever vibe.
Speaker 1 (58:19):
Yeah for sure.
Speaker 2 (58:19):
Yeah, cause we missed
we missed the opportunity to go
to one of our favoriterestaurants the serving spoon
that is now owned by one of mystudents, Jessica, and so we we
which is a historic restaurantin Englewood, the Serving Spoon.
So we didn't get a chance to gothere, but it was a few things
Like we didn't get a chance tosee certain people that we
(58:40):
wanted to see Cam and Brian, butyou know it was cool.
Speaker 1 (58:45):
Yeah, it was just
amazing how fast the time went.
We were there.
Speaker 2 (58:48):
Thursday.
Speaker 1 (58:51):
And I remember
because, trying to figure it out
with my work schedule, becauseI was already back at work, but
we wanted to have a good amountof time there but, yeah, we
could have really done a wholeweek, a whole week, yeah, a week
there.
Speaker 2 (59:03):
And still would have
felt like we didn't do something
.
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (59:05):
So, anywho, it was an
amazing trip.
We enjoyed ourselves.
Speaker 2 (59:08):
Yeah, we did,
definitely did.
Speaker 1 (59:11):
Sure did, definitely
did.
Sure did, yeah, and we got tosee Suzy.
Yep Got to see my girl Suzy asalways, yeah, and Tina, and Tina
laughed with them.
Yeah, I got to laugh with them.
Speaker 2 (59:20):
Yep, that was good,
and so you know great people,
great fam, mm-hmm.
All right, so that was it.
We just wanted to catch up on L.
Speaker 1 (59:28):
Oh, I got a question,
though, before we leave.
Speaker 2 (59:30):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (59:31):
What is something
that you are looking forward to
this week?
Speaker 2 (59:37):
Oh man, well, I'm a
little nervous about I'm more so
nervous.
I said what are you lookingforward to?
I'm looking forward to it, okay.
I'm looking forward todiscovering my practicum site,
okay.
But I'm a little nervous aboutit because I'm kind of behind
the eight ball, like I wish Ihad more time to search for
(59:58):
different places to do mypracticum internship with um,
but I'm looking forward becauseI it's going to be good, it's
something new um I'm looking for.
I'm always looking forward toseeing my students and that's
really it man.
(01:00:24):
Well, you won't be going with us, but moving Kamani back into
his room for his final year.
Speaker 1 (01:00:28):
So I'm looking
forward to that.
You know his final year ofundergrad, you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (01:00:34):
So at old mother,
dear the alabama state
university, yes and uh.
So I'm, I'm looking forward tothat because, uh, I remember
when, um, I remember me, like Istill have it, my, my, uh
registration slip for my senioryear you see my one shoebox I
(01:00:55):
got and I was like with all themany other things and shoeboxes
around here.
Speaker 1 (01:01:00):
He's got lots of
things in shoeboxes so, uh, I'm
looking forward to it.
Speaker 2 (01:01:06):
What about you?
Speaker 1 (01:01:17):
I was hoping he
wouldn't say this.
I'm looking forward to our 22ndwedding anniversary, that is
this Saturday.
22 years of love on Saturday.
He didn't say that y'all, but Idid.
I remember when he tried to sayI remember the year, this is my
trick'all.
But I did Remember when hetried to say I remember the year
, this is my trick, this is whatI did.
Speaker 2 (01:01:36):
So have y'all noticed
that she already pre-planned
this she comes in with the stuffready.
Speaker 1 (01:01:43):
I didn't know what
you were going to say.
What you said.
Speaker 2 (01:01:45):
I was hoping you was
going to say that, Meaning that
you already planned that.
Oh, if he don't say it, I'mgoing to say it.
Speaker 1 (01:01:54):
Any that you already
planned that?
Oh, if he don't say it, I'mgonna say it.
You know I win, I'll give it.
I'll give you that.
No, I'll give that to you.
No, looking forward to that.
That's saturday, so we'llprobably just do dinner,
something, nothing major, andthen, um, also with um, I don't
get to go to move kimani, andI've been every year to help
move him in.
This year I don't get to gobecause I went to la and so I
was gone from three days fromwork.
(01:02:15):
So, um, yeah, so I won't beable to move him in, but I did.
We did do a little shoppingyesterday of some of the things
he'll need for his dorm, and um,dad's gonna take him down and
do the rest for his senior year.
So, yep, um, anywho.
So looking forward to hearingabout how everything went with
his move in and celebrating thisSaturday 22 years of love.
(01:02:41):
L-o-v-e.
Speaker 2 (01:02:44):
So maybe we'll film
an anniversary episode where we
talk about how it all started.
Speaker 1 (01:02:51):
That sounds good.
Speaker 2 (01:02:52):
Yeah, so after you
get your run and stuff, maybe
we'll talk about it then go todinner after I get my run, yeah
get your run, and that's becauseit's on a saturday oh, on
saturday you get your run.
Then we'll be already dressed, yeah, and then we'll oh, that'd
be good, and then go to dinner.
Then go to dinner.
That way we could talk actuallyabout like how it all started,
(01:03:13):
you know.
Speaker 1 (01:03:14):
Sounds like a plan.
Speaker 2 (01:03:15):
Yeah, about how I had
to fight this restraining order
because I was being stalked.
Oh please, you know what I'msaying.
So I gave her a chance.
Speaker 1 (01:03:25):
Slap.
Speaker 2 (01:03:26):
And it was a chance
that she needed.
Speaker 1 (01:03:28):
Slap Sounds like a
plan.
So, no, whatever, don't listento him, yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:03:35):
You know.
So, guys, don't be so quick togive them a restraining order.
You know they might just have alittle more sense than they put
on.
It might work out.
Speaker 1 (01:03:46):
If you believe that
you a fool.
