Sumina (00:04):
Welcome to the Rested Real Estate Agent, a podcast
that helps you navigate life asa real estate professional,
while finding some rest andbalance along the way.
I'm your host, Sumina, an agentwith 16 years of experience in
the Austin Texas area, and Ibelieve there's a better way to
do our business, serve ourclients and not get burnt out.

(00:25):
This is the last episode of2024, and I'm excited to bring
it to you.
This is going to be kind of ameditation to wrap up the end of
the year.
So it'll be about 7 to 10minutes long and we'll sort of
wind up the year.
And yeah, here we go.

(00:46):
So you can do this anywhere, just hopefully not when you're
driving.
You can do it sitting down, youcan do it lying down, you can
do it walking.
Any of those are fine.
I just want you to take a deepbreath in through your nose and
a slow exhale through your mouthand just notice where you are

(01:20):
in space.
Are you inside?
Are you inside?
Are you outdoors?
If you look over your rightshoulder, what do you notice If
you look over your left shoulder?
What's in your environment, what's above you in space and

(01:55):
what's below you.
So, as we come to the end of2024, we wrap up this year.
I think one of the gifts that wehave as real estate
professionals is the amount oflives and people that we
interact with at any given timeand so breathing in over the

(02:16):
next couple cycles of breath.
I'd like you to think about allthe clients that you worked
with this year.
So these could be buyers, thesecould be sellers, this could be
landlords, this could betenants.

(02:37):
All these different people fromdifferent walks of life who
came into your orbit forwhatever reason, and maybe some
of them were an absolute joy anddelight to work with, and when

(03:00):
you bring their name to yourmind or their image to your mind
, it brings a sense of joy andhappiness.
Then there might have beenpeople who you maybe didn't get
along with, like you were notbesties.
You did your job, they werepleased with your services and
that was the end of it.

(03:21):
I call these kind of like theneutral party.
Right, there's no necessity forhugs.
There wasn't hatred either.
No hugs, no hatred.
And notice what feelings thesort of neutral client evokes in

(03:42):
you.
Client evokes in you.
And now think about if you hadany clients that were
particularly difficult ortransaction that was
particularly sticky or difficult.
What feelings or sensationsdoes that bring up in you?

(04:02):
Maybe some feelings of anger ordisappointment.
Maybe you can feel someactivation in your body, some
heat rising or a sense of dreadin your belly or a sense of

(04:27):
dread in your belly, and justnotice that these are all the
people who came into your worldthis year Some good, some bad,
some neutral.
And now I want you to thinkabout the other agents that you
interacted with this year.

(04:47):
Maybe other real estateprofessionals on the other side
of a transaction?
Maybe an agent that you sent areferral to in a different city,
or someone that sent you areferral to in a different city,
or someone that sent you areferral.

(05:08):
Maybe you went to a conferencethis year and you got to meet
agents from different places.
Maybe agents in your officethat you get to see, and

(05:34):
expanding that out to the staffwho run your office and your
brokerage.
The people at your local boardof realtors that keep that
department humming along.
The different title reps thatyou have interacted with this
year.
Maybe different inspectioninspectors?

(05:56):
Okay, and what about loanofficers, lenders and their
assistants?
What about the closing table?

(06:19):
The person that checks you inat the front desk, the closer
who closes your file.

(06:45):
Take a couple minutes and runthrough this little mental
rolodex of all the differentpieces that had to come together
to allow you to do your job anddo it well.
This year in particular hasbeen marked with so many changes
in our industry, coming out ofthe pandemic years and the crazy

(07:08):
market that was into the veryslow market in 2023.
At least it wasn't Austin andall these people who surround us
that allow us to do our jobs.
Think about the other kind oftools you use in your day-to-day

(07:30):
business the car you drive thatallows you to get from
appointment to appointment, meetwith clients, sit in traffic
and helps facilitate people whoare moving through major life

(07:52):
decisions with you To buy orsell a home, and all the
stressors and the joys and thecomplexities that come with that
.
And your cell phone and all thetools you use on there that

(08:13):
allow you to do your job well.
Some person somewhere createdthat, coded an app that made it
possible for you to unlock doors, to show homes and how

(08:38):
interconnected and how necessaryconnection and community is in
our world, and particularly inthis moment in time, and you get

(08:59):
to be a part of that.
You get to be a part of yourclient's story.
You get to be a part of yourbrokerage's story.

(09:20):
Take a couple breaths and letyour mind run through all those
different components of whatmakes it possible to live your
life and do your job and takecare of the people in your

(09:44):
community that hire you, andthink about all the people that
you've hired this year to helpyou do your job.
You you may hire an accountantor a CPA.

(10:11):
Perhaps you hire a marketingperson or someone to help you
with social media, and all thosedollars that you pay out to
them helps them live their livesand you get value from what
they provide and you pay them afee for their service and that

(10:34):
allows them to continue on doingtheir work and shining in the
way that only they can shine.
Just like you can only shine inthe way that you can shine.
Your gifts are specific to you.
Your clients, like you, canonly shine in the way that you

(10:55):
can shine.
Your gifts are specific to you.
Your clients like you, becauseyou're you.
So I hope that as we wind thisyear up, you are able to see the
abundance that is there theabundance in yourself, in your

(11:17):
own creativity, in your owndrive to provide good service,
your desire to provide goodservice, your desire to provide
good service and take care ofyour clients, and that there's

(11:39):
plenty of business out there foryou in this coming year.
And that's proven by the factthat the people you were able to
work with this year found youand especially for the people
that you enjoyed working with,if they're out there, there are

(12:02):
others out there like them too.
So I hope you'll carry forwardwith you this idea of
appreciation and connection andcontribution that you want to
make to the world in this comingyear, in small ways and big

(12:23):
ways.
Simply being a kind person iscontribution enough.
We'll take a deep breath inthrough your nose, slow exhale
through your mouth.
Maybe do that one more time.

(12:44):
Maybe do that one more time, even slower on the exhale, like
you're blowing out through astraw.
Notice, if there's any tensionin your forehead, in your jaw,
you don't have to changeanything.

(13:05):
Just simply notice, when youpay attention to it, if anything
changes or not.
Know that you can return backto this practice any time in the
future when things feel scarceor you're not sure what you

(13:28):
should be doing that there arepeople out there who need your
services, so take up space, gofind them, let them find you.
I wish you the best moving into2025.
If you've been on this podcastjourney with me so far, please
