mindset.
And I believe these can apply toevery person, regardless of
financial resources and healthstatus.

I remind myself daily to bepresent and engaged and to live
with intent.
Most importantly, I've rekindledmy soul, spirituality, and
(00:22):
vitality in connections withfamily and friends,
rediscovering pieces of myselfthat I lost along life's
journey.
Welcome to the Retired MindsetPodcast, where soul meets body.
Hosted by me, Bob Preston.
(00:46):
Embrace the retirement journeyof transformative insights,
inspiring conversations, withnew episodes produced weekly.
I hope you're having an amazingkickoff to the fall season.
It's been a beautiful day heretoday, this fall in Del Mar,
(01:06):
California, my favorite time ofyear.
Now it's been a minute sinceI've posted or published
anything professional, mainlybecause, well, I'm pretty much a
retired ski bum at this point inmy life.
Yep, officially living thedream, as they say.
Some self-deprecating humorthere, but the ski bum part,
well, it's kind of true.
I still dabble in a lot of sidehustles.
(01:28):
My heart, though, is nowdedicated to volunteering,
working with incredible groupsof people committed to giving
back.
But if you're hearing, listeningto this, you've already figured
out that I've been working onand brainstorming something in
stealth mode for about a year ona new passion project.
And I am here to tell you aboutthe retired mindset, now
(01:51):
streaming on Apple Podcasts,Spotify, YouTube.
It's also available on our newwebsite, the retiredmindset.com,
along with lots of other greatinfo and resources.
So check that out too.
Now, many of you may remember myhighly ranked podcast in the
property management industrycalled Property Management
Brainstorm.
Now, while I have moved on fromthat industry and stepped back
(02:14):
from actively posting there andpodcasting there, this new
concept has been bubbling up inmy mind for quite some time, and
I can hardly contain myself withexcitement.
So let's first set the recordstraight.
The retired mindset is not aboutcrunching numbers or managing
finances and retirement.
There are countless podcasts outthere already tackling that
(02:35):
topic, trust me, hundreds.
Instead, this podcast is allabout living your best life in
retirement.
We'll dive into mental health, staying young at heart, and
maintaining connections duringwhat I like to call the third
trimester of life's journey.
My vision is to help you, yes, both men and women, unlock your
(02:56):
full potential, reconnect withwhat makes you uniquely you,
embracing aging and thrive asyou transition away from your
career.
Retirement has opened my eyes inways I never imagined.
My experience in retirementreminds me of the Death Cab for
Cutie song Soul Meets Body.
(03:16):
If you're not familiar with thesong, try searching for it on
Google or iTunes and give it alisten.
It feels like I've stepped intoa new version of myself.
Let's call it Bobby P 2.0.
I've rediscovered my passionsand embraced the joy of living
in the moment.
One of my favorite podcasts iscalled I've Had It.
So flippin' funny, always cracksme up and addresses things that
(03:40):
the hosts find annoying.
And you know what?
I've had it with the term goldenyears.
Seriously, it's time to ditchthat phrase.
It perpetuates ageism, stereotypes about retirement as
a time of decline.
And for me, retirement is aboutjoy, growth, and reclaiming my
humanity, reconnecting to theessence of who I am.
(04:02):
Now, a lot of people will askme, do you have enough to keep
you busy in retirement?
And my answer, absolutely, Ihave so much on my plate that I
struggle to find enough hours inthe day to get it all done.
It's like a veil has beenlifted, allowing me to see life
through a new vibrant lens.
Now, I get it, some people lovetheir work.
(04:24):
Bob Weir from The Grateful Dead, who is nearly 80, still rocks it
every night and proclaims thatretirement is not an option.
That's his passion.
And I say go for it and stickwith it.
I also understand and empathizethat there are some who face
financial constraints and healthissues that prevent them,
perhaps, from retiring or livingto their fullest.
These realities have hit closefor me and my life as I see
(04:48):
friends and family navigatingthese challenges every day.
But if you're contemplatingretirement or have taken that
leap, don't settle for merelyexisting in your golden years.
Now, here's a glimpse into mycurrent retired mindset.
And I believe these can apply toevery person, regardless of
financial resources and healthstatus.
(05:10):
I've got renewed clarity andfocus.
I remind myself daily to bepresent and engaged and to live
with intent.
Most importantly, I've rekindledmy soul, spirituality, and
vitality in connections withfamily and friends,
rediscovering pieces of myselfthat I lost along life's
journey.
Soul meets body, if you will.
(05:32):
We'll explore not just myexperiences, but also feature
inspiring guests and expertssharing their retirement
journeys as well.
Research and the sources oftheir joy.
Yes, I'll share some personalstories along the way that might
make me feel a bit vulnerable, but hey, that's part of the
adventure.
Now, let me be clear about a fewthings.
(05:54):
I'm not at all qualified to be afinancial advisor.
I'm not a life coach or atherapist, and in no way am I
trying to be some sort ofmetaphysical guru, if you will.
I sincerely don't want you tothink that I'm trying or
pretending to be any of thosebecause I'm not.
I'm just an ordinary guy who'sfound joy in retirement, and I'm
eager to share that experiencewith anyone who's interested.
(06:18):
