In the premiere of Movies in Minutes (where Gene Jackson does short reviews of pro wrestling related movies), Gene takes a sarcastic stroll down memory lane to revisit the 1986 cult oddity Body Slam — a movie that asks the burning question: What if the LEAST known actor on the A-Team starred in his own movie?
Starring Dirk Benedict (Face from The A-Team), “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, Sam Fatu, and Captain Lou Albano (as a version of himself with even less self-control), this movie mixes rock music, wrestling, mob thugs, and questionable life choices into one gloriously weird, low-budget clusterf***.
Does Body Slam hold up in 2025? (Spoiler: not really.)
Does it still entertain in the way only a politically incorrect, poorly edited '80s wrestling movie can? Absolutely.
Highlights include:
• Roddy Piper as “Quick Rick Roberts”
• Captain Lou Albano attempting to read cue cards
• Cameos from Rick Flair, Bruno Sammartino, and Freddie Blassie
• Korean mobsters played by Samoans
• A tag team named “The Cannibals”
• And a rock band called “Kick” (as in listening to them is like a “KICK in the nuts”)
If you've ever wondered what would happen if someone made a wrestling movie without understanding wrestling OR movies... this is your chance!
