TXT us your feedback!! <3 your fayce!

This Thanksgiving episode is simple. It's my love letter to my nurses. MY 'patient population'. MY why.

Not the kind people write on holiday cards. The kind nurses never get but always deserve.

In this conversation, we step away from the noise and endless dumpster fires. We talk about what nurses actually carry. The invisible work. The emotional labor. The moments that never make the chart but stay with you long after the shift ends.

We breathe together.
We pause for moments that belong only to you.
We name something to be proud of, no matter what it is, we're here for it.

We talk about rest in ways that do not require money, PTO, or a miracle. We talk about how micro rests can calm a nervous system that has been working too hard for too long. We talk honestly about why none of this is weakness. It is survival.

In Coffee, Crystals, and Divination we explore peppermint bark tea, Aqua Aura Quartz, Ocean Jasper, the Death card, and the Wheel of Fortune. Each one points to release, renewal, and the possibility of something gentler.

This episode is my love letter to nurses. All nurses. The ones at the bedside. The ones in clinics. The ones in leadership. The ones who left to save themselves. The ones still trying to find their way back to themselves.

If no one tells you thank you this week, I will.
 I see you.
 I honor you.
 I am grateful for you.

SPEAKER_00 (00:11):
Welcome back to the Ritual Nurse Podcast.
I'm your host, Reba, and todaywe're stepping out of the
endless scroll of Dumpster FireNews and into something a little
softer.
Something a little warmer, something nurses rarely get for
themselves.
Gratitude.
Not the Pinterest version, notthe corporate email version, the

(00:35):
real version.
The kind that forms in thecenter of your chest, like a
small sun that refuses to goout.
The kind that makes your throatfeel just a tiny bit tight, and
you have to blink a few times.
If you work in healthcare rightnow, I probably don't need to
tell you how heavy this worldfeels.
I live in the United States, andhere especially.

(00:58):
It feels like every time I openmy phone, someone's yelling,
something's on fire, somepolitician is actively trying to
send me into hypertensive crisisor SVT.
So for today, we're not doingany of that.
Tonight is about you.
The nurse, the healer, the onewho stayed.

(01:19):
This is my Thanksgiving loveletter to the profession that
holds up the whole damn world.
Let's start with the simpletruth.
If people had any idea whatnurses actually do, Thanksgiving
would be a global holidayspecifically dedicated to you.
Because most of what you doisn't documented.

(01:43):
It's not captured in thehighlight reel of the job.
It's the invisible work, theemotional labor, the quiet,
heroic moments you don't talkabout because you're too busy
doing the next thing.
You sit with the dying so thatthey're not alone.
You catch subtle changes inpatients before anyone else even

(02:06):
knows something's wrong.
You translate the medical chaosinto something a terrified
family member can understand atthree in the morning.
You notice when a patient'sbreathing changes while the rest
of the room is distracted.
You protect dignity with yourwhole chest.

(02:26):
You teach, you advocate, youintercept harm.
You run interference withdedicated intention.
You advocate with ten toes down.
You become their voice when theyare silenced.
You become their safe harborwhen the fear and pain try to

(02:47):
swallow them whole.
These are not small things.
These are the things that keephumanity intact.
And nurses do them constantly.
You've been fed this myth thatall this labor is, quote, just

(03:10):
part of the job.
That it's the norm, expected, nothing special.
Well, I'm calling that what itis: a lie.
Nurses are the miracle.
Nurses are the intervention.

(03:32):
Nurses are the variable thatchanges the outcome.
You are the reason a scared kidlived long enough to get a
diagnosis.
You're the reason a mother'sblood pressure was caught before
a catastrophe.
You are the reason a confusedelder finally understood how to
take their new medication.

(03:54):
You are the reason someone madeit home.
Not because you had to do any ofthose things.
But because you chose to.
And I need you just for the nextfew minutes to stop believing
that isn't heroic, isn't extra, isn't above and beyond.

(04:22):
I want you to pause.
Wherever you are, unless you'reliterally holding a human
airway, which in that case, howare you listening to this?
You can take 10 seconds foryourself.
I'm gonna tell you the steps, and then we're gonna actually no
shit do it together.

(04:43):
Me too.
Right here, right now.
So here's the steps.
I'll repeat them when we do itagain together.
So don't worry if you're thetype of person that needs to
grab a pen and jot it down.
What I want you to do is listento the steps and just kind of
let it normalize in your brainthat that's what you're gonna

(05:06):
do, so that you can just slipinto doing it when we start.
So first we're gonna unclenchour jaws and drop our shoulders.
We're gonna slowly inhalethrough the nose, count to four.
Then I want you to let yourexhale just be slower than your
inhale.
Don't count.
Just one breath that is fullyyours.

(05:29):
If it takes you a few tries tolet that breath fill you, then
exhale.
With steady, calm clarity, thendo that.
Do it a few times.
Then we're gonna name one thingthat we're proud of for
ourselves for this year.
Okay, it doesn't have to behuge.

(05:51):
Okay.
Alright, so ready?
I know.
A whole bunch of you justgrimaced.
You can do this.
I'm gonna hold your hand whilewe do this.
I do want you to unclench yourjaws.
I want you to lower youreyebrows as well.
And I want you to drop yourshoulders.

(06:11):
We're gonna inhale through ournose, and we're gonna count to
four mentally while we'reinhaling.

(06:34):
Now, I want you to name the onething that you're proud of
yourself for this year.
You can do that.
Don't hesitate.
It doesn't have to be nursetalk, trendy.
I just want real.

(06:54):
For me, I'm proud that this yearI invested so much time and
energy into teaching the nextgeneration of nurses how not to
be bullies, how to becompassionate and caring, but
set boundaries to actuallyprotect their peace.

(07:17):
Because nobody did that for meor most of you, and somebody has
to start doing it, so that moreand more of our nurses come out
the gate knowing how to protectthemselves while still being
able to provide the legendarycare that we do.

(07:40):
And for you, maybe you keptshowing up when you didn't think
you could.
Maybe you advocated for apatient when everyone else
checked out.
Maybe you survived.
That counts.
Every day that counts.

(08:02):
Here's my gratitude from me toyou.
Thank you for showing up whenyou were exhausted.
Thank you for advocating whenthe room went silent.
Thank you for being the one yourpatients trusted most.
Thank you for bearing witness tothe hardest moments of human

(08:24):
life.
Thank you for holding the lineeven as the system failed around
you.
Thank you for caring even whenit hurt.
And thank you for staying humanin a job designed to grind the
humanity out of you sometimes.
The sheer tenacity of will thattakes is legendary.

(08:49):
You are not invisible to me.
I see you, I honor you, and I amgrateful for you.
Let's talk about impact.
How nurses change the world.
Real, measurable scientificimpact.

(09:13):
Nurses reduce mortality rates.
Nurses improve recovery times.
Nurses reduce complications.
Nurses stabilize families.
Nurses influence policy, whetheranyone realizes it or not.
You are the most trustedprofession for a reason.
Not because the polls say so,but because every day you prove

(09:36):
it.
You change the world at thebedside, in the clinic, in the
community, in leadership, ineducation, and in every quiet
moment no one sees.
And if you're listening to thisright now, hear me so clearly.
The world is better because youexist in it.

(09:59):
Because you are the ones whokeep healing in every form it
takes.
Alright, let's take a littlebreather before we get emotional
enough to need a hydrationbreak.
When we come back, we're goingto talk about rest, ritual, and
the soft places you need toland, especially in a profession

(10:19):
that rarely gives you one.
So dance break in three, two, one.

SPEAKER_01 (10:26):
Let's get some sun, baby, someone.

SPEAKER_00 (11:24):
The call to rest.
The little kind, not the luxurykind.
Nurses hear the word rest andimmediately assume it requires a
PTO, a plane ticket, and someoneelse's credit card.
Probably because the size of therest our exhaustion feels like
sometimes is Ocean's 11-scaleoperations.
I'm talking about micro rest, the kind you can steal, the kind

(11:46):
that counts.
A five-minute sit in your carbefore walking into the building
counts.
Waiting to walk out of thebedroom door for 30 seconds just
to breathe counts.
A shower after a brutal shiftwhere you let the water run down
your spine and imagine the dayrinsing off of your skin counts.

(12:09):
Rest doesn't have to be perfect.
It just has to exist.
The reason for this is simple.
Our nervous systems, adrenalglands, and compensatory
mechanisms need to reset fromredline.
And every micro rest resets us.
The more we reset, the morebreak that consistent

(12:31):
high-tension fight or flightstate gets.
And all of the physiologicalconsequences of that state.
Micro rests allow you to developthe habit of being tactilely
aware of your physiology andyour body's innate response to
your environment in that moment.
That puts context conceptuallytogether with thought processes

(12:54):
and bodily awareness.
This gives you control overregulation, recognition of
mind-body states, and allows youto acknowledge your response and
emotions.
You're in control.
So in this state, you signal toyourself that you are safe.

(13:15):
That two or more things can betrue in any given moment.
That you can be in a high stresssituation exposed to secondary
trauma or emotions, and yetstill safe.
That you can experience a widerange of emotions, and yet you
are still safe.

(13:36):
That you can function and dependon yourself to stay safe in
heightened or escalatedsituations.
You are allowed to pause, youare allowed to tend to yourself,
you are allowed to matter.
I know a lot of this soundsflowery, woo-woo, but every word

(13:58):
of it is true.
This can be as imperfect, raw,and as real as you need it.
Remember, not hallmark, justhuman.
So now we're gonna head into thecozy corner of today's episode.
I know all of us nurses get alittle too close to a lot of

(14:20):
emotion, and all of usimmediately, okay, thanks.
No thanks, goodbye.
So you can breathe, you canrelax, we're gonna go, we're
gonna be cozy for a minute anddo coffee, crystals, and
divination to round out oursegment.
The coffee or tea of the week, let me tell you.
Last week, while I was browsingWorld Market for a few things, I

(14:41):
primarily get food types andspices there that I can't find
in stores elsewhere around here.
And I happen to find theRepublic of Tea's peppermint
bark tea.
I'm hooked.
I love peppermint.
And as a note, this one isn'tblow your sinus' mint, but it's
aromatic, it's slightly sweet, and it's beyond amazing to sip.

(15:03):
Perfect for when the rain orsnow comes down, while you're
working on a hobby, listening toyour ebook, or just simply
existing in space peacefully fora few minutes.
I'm sure grocery stores carry itin the tea section.
If you do try it out, let meknow on the show feedback link
on Apple or Spotify, or onsocials.

(15:24):
Hit me up with a comment or tagme in your post and let me know
what you think.
We're gonna do our live draw.
Alright, let's see what ourcrystal for the next two weeks
is gonna be from our deck here.
I almost flung like two-thirdsof the deck in the air.

(16:14):
There's one.
So I didn't pick those up, butthey seem to have, there we go,
uh like a holiday tea typesection, of course.
Um, which I'm sure, you know, grocery stores will have if you
don't have a world market nearyou.
Um, and I know Amazon has it, Ithink even, I think Walmart has
it.
Um, a bunch of different placeswould.

(16:36):
So definitely give those a tryand let me know.
Um, gingerbread something, thepeppermint bark.
There isn't, there's supposed tobe cocoa in the tea, but I
didn't get a very strongchocolate flavor.
Maybe that was part of like thehint of sweetness, I don't know.
The peppermint was just like theperfect strength peppermint, if

(16:58):
you will.
Uh let's take a look at ourcrystals.
So we have invigorate, which isaura aura quartz, and flow,
which is ocean jasper.
Now, the aura aura quartz, Ithink we've had a couple times.
Um the ocean jasper, I don'tthink.
So the aura aura quartz, it'ssoothing, confidence, auric

(17:21):
cleansing.
Wild, totally unrelated.
The presence of aura aura quartzsignifies a powerful moment of
revitalization and inner peace.
As the soothing and calmingenergy of this crystal washes
over you, this card invites youto invigorate your spirit and
renew your sense of calmness.
Just be still in this moment torevitalize your energy, release

(17:47):
stress, and connect with adeeper sense of peace within.
Allow the gentle energy of AuraAura quartz to cleanse your
spirit, lift your emotions, andguide you towards a renewed
sense of vitality and serenity.
I think I just realized inlooking at this, the whole time

(18:10):
I've been saying this quartzname, I've been thinking in my
head, I have some of this, and Idon't think there's a duplicate
name in it.
And there isn't.
It's actually Aqua Aura Quartz.
So I'm not even gonna edit thatout because I think that's
funny.
The way that it's spelled here,I totally, my ADHD brain just

(18:32):
dyslexically swapped the U andwhat doesn't even look like an R
to make it a duplicate of Aura, but it's aqua Aura quartz.
Just to be clear.
Since I just now noticed that.
Yeah, like I said, I'm not evengonna edit that out.
I think that's funny.

(18:52):
And the next one is flow, OceanJasper, which I don't think
we've had before.
Let's see what Ocean Jaspersaid.
So Ocean Jasper is uplifting, relaxation, and calmness.

(19:15):
You can't control everything.
Now's the time to sink into astate of pure relaxation and go
with the flow without a care inthe world.
With the help of Ocean Jasper'suplifting energy, allow yourself
to surrender and let go of allthat stress and tension.
Take your time to luxuriate inthe moment, finding peace in the

(19:37):
simple act of being.
Relax, rejuvenate, and just gowith the flow, baby.
Amazing.
Perfect crystals for the nexttwo weeks.
So flow, which is ocean jasper, invigorate, which was aqua aura
quartz.
Aha.
Um, if you have those, then keepthem near you, tuck them in your

(19:59):
pocket.
You have them on a bracelet.
You could even uh draw picturesof them and have those near you
as representations of them ifyou don't happen to have the
stone.
That also works.
And if you're not into thecrystal thing, I don't I mean, I
do have to say how how do younot like the pretty rocks?

(20:21):
But if you're not into thecrystal thing, you could use
that, use this as a channelingprompt.
Manifestation, something likethat.
So let's see, speaking ofmanifestation, what cards what's
our divination for this week?
Alright.

(20:42):
That was quick.
Oh, incredible.
We have two big cards, hugecards.
I've never even seen one ofthese.
I mean, correction.
Okay, I've seen it.
I just mean in this deck, Ihaven't pulled it in the
podcast.
So the first one is death, whichis obsidian.

(21:02):
Don't panic.
Doesn't mean what you think itmeans.
And the second one is Wheel ofFortune.
So Wheel of Fortune isAventuring, and Death is
Obsidian.
Let's read it and see what theyhave to say.
Incredible.

(21:25):
Alright, death.
Ending, change, release, andobsidian means grounding,
protection, and transformation.
Out with the old and in with thenew.
Don't freak out, but the deathcard is actually the end of a
phase or cycle that is no longerserving you.
Hmm.
Remember at the beginning of thepodcast how we talked about what

(21:48):
we're not buying into?
Yeah, exactly.
Release past attachments so youcan focus on what's ahead of
you.
And attachments that can also belong-held systemic beliefs.
So, perfect card.
That's amazing.
Now let's focus on the Wheel ofFortune.

(22:09):
The Wheel of Fortune usuallysignifies life cycles, luck, and
destiny.
Aventurine is good luck, prosperity, and optimism.
This card often signifies that apositive change is coming up or
a cycle is coming to an end.
Just remember that whatever theoutcome may be, remain
optimistic.
Trust that the universe has yourback and things are unfolding as

(22:33):
they should.
That was the perfect one-twopunch.
Literally.
First card telling you, hey, letgo of it.
Time for change, put it to bed.
The second card reassuring you, yep, that was a right decision.
Let it go.
On with the new.

(22:54):
Absolutely incredible.
So you have your crystals forthe next two week, uh, Aqua Aura
Quartz and Ocean Jasper, and wehave the death card and wheel of
fortune for our divinationcards, which couldn't be more
perfectly matched to the meaningand episode uh for today.

(23:17):
So, nurses, I want you to hearme when I say this.
I am grateful for you.
Not in the shallow holiday cardway, but in the real way.
The way that sits in your chest, the way that stays with you on
the hardest nights, the way thatreminds you that your work means
something, even when the systemrefuses to see it.

(23:39):
You are my people.
You are why I do this work.
You are why this podcast exists.
So if no one tells you howgrateful they are for you, know
that I will.
And that I am so grateful foryou.
And as always, I love yourfaces.
