Could you be a safety professional without even knowing it? My name is Kenyon Manley, safety manager and your guide to uncovering the profound impact that servant leadership has in our day-to-day lives. This episode is a deep dive into the roles many of us unintentionally play as safety professionals, from parenthood to pastoral roles, and the critical decisions we make that affect those around us. I also discuss the importance of personal growth, self-care, and getting to the root of our issues to ensure we are equipped to serve effectively.

However, understanding our roles and responsibilities is only half the battle. The second part of this episode emphasizes the importance of taking actionable steps towards personal development and safety. Our influence on others is immense, and it’s vital to confront and overcome the obstacles that hold us back. No action is too small, whether it's reading, tuning into a podcast, seeking professional advice, or even just a conversation with a friend. So, make sure to listen to this episode of the Safety Link podcast, as we embark on an exciting journey towards personal growth and a safer life. Your well-being is my priority!

Speaker 1 (00:04):
we're in.
Wow, wow, wow it's here.

(00:50):
I'm so, so, so, so thankful forthis opportunity that I've been
able to give myself in a senseof reaching outside of things I
don't usually do, but I've beenso excited ever since I was

(01:17):
given a vision of what I coulddo in my space.
If you don't know me, my nameis Kenyon Manley.
I'm a safety manager.
I've been in safety since like1997.

(01:41):
And the reason why I say thatis because I've always been over
people in charge of people, people up under me, that their
health and welfare, theirwell-being, their character,

(02:02):
everything was, everything was.
I was accountable for it.
I want to make sure I say thesame, the right words I was

(02:23):
accountable for all those things.
So I truly believe that mysafety career started earlier
than I would have ever thought, until I actually moved back and

(02:47):
saw what I was already doing.
And when I look about that, Ilook out there and I think about
you, the one who's listening inright now, you, the person who
is a safety professional.
What's a safety professional?
A safety professional is amother, a father, a safety

(03:19):
manager, safety coordinator, anurse, a firefighter, law
enforcement agent, a surgeon, apastor, a project manager, a
superintendent, a foreman.
Those are just some of thesafety professionals that right

(03:47):
now that I can think of, just torattle off so that you can get
an idea of what this podcastthat I'm getting here into is
going to be reaching out to.
And it's going to be thosetypes of people and I'm reaching

(04:09):
out to that on this platformbecause if you have any of those
careers, any of thoseoccupations, any of those
identifiers titles, you're aservant leader and you have to

(04:37):
be able to serve somebody day inand day out.
Every single one of those thatI mentioned safety professionals
have a critical job or acritical part to play in that

(05:04):
aspect.
One thing that must happenbetween those two things is
there has to be a separationbetween you and the people that

(05:28):
you're serving.
And I want to separate thosebecause I want to talk about the
self-help, I want to talk aboutthe looking in the mirror.
I want to talk about thegetting booty butt naked.
I want to talk about you reallychallenging yourself to excel,

(05:50):
to reach your ceiling, but theonly way that you're going to
begin to go to the next level orexcel or exceed in such a
manner is that you're going tohave to take care of issues that
you have within your life, because I'm going to talk about

(06:12):
some things that will relate towhy this is such a safety or
deal and you being a safetyprofessional, and why it's so
important that you have to.
Your mind, body and soul have tobe lined up and taken care of

(06:32):
on a daily basis.
I'll never discount the factthat living this life that we
live today is easy, no matterwhat era, generation, decade
that you were born.
There's things that we gothrough each and every day that

(06:55):
are just their life changing, their mind blowing.
They're just it's a lot.
And we, as servant leaders, each and every day we go to work
, each and every day we dealwith the people that we were
supposed to be a resource forcaring for.

(07:17):
In such critical moments, wehave to be at 100% to make those
decisions so that they're notemotional, to make those
decisions that are critical andmaking sure that that's the
right move, that's the rightdecision, that's the right plan.

(07:47):
So the self-help side of it youreally have to look at yourself
and say, hey, I got to fix thesethings, and I'm not talking
about fixing these things andyou cut the tree at the trunk or
you cut it at the branch or youcut it at the leaf, because

(08:14):
even though you may do that, youmay chop a big portion of it.
Don't get me wrong.
But what was going to happen isthat that very same tree that
was bearing the very same fruit, that wasn't conducive to your
environment, that was unhealthy, that was stressful, that was
causing mental issues, that wascausing, maybe, some anxieties.

(08:41):
Those things have to be choppedat the root of the problem,
because if you don't get to theroot of the problem, within side
of you it'll continue to fester, it'll continue to grow.

(09:04):
It may not be as big as beforeyou cut it at the trunk, but
every once in a while somethingis going to pop up that is going
to keep you from being takingyourself to the next level.

(09:31):
So I'm really here to say to allof you listening right now,
tune in, listen to the content, listen to the information that
is going to be provided.
I will tell you it's no magicstuff, there's no secret potion

(09:54):
at what I'm going to tell you,but I can give you a secret, and
the secret is the action.
Nothing that I'm going to tellyou is any good without the

(10:20):
action of you the safetyprofessional understanding that
you are critical to a lot ofpeople in your life and it's so
important to be able to look atyourself, take care of yourself,
work on yourself on a dailybasis, have patience, be

(10:42):
empowered and continue to changeyour life so you can continue
to be that servant leader thatseveral people, one person or
anybody that's in your presenceis going to be taking care of in

(11:03):
the best possible way.
But again, the secret is theaction that you were going to
take, whether it's reading abook, listening to a podcast,
looking in the mirror, questioning yourself, praying on
it if you're a believer,getting advice from a

(11:30):
professional, getting advicefrom a friend, a family member,
but doing something about that, that very thing that's holding
you back right now, in thismoment.
And yes, I'm talking to you.
I'm talking to you becauseyou're still listening.

(11:52):
Again, tune in to the SafetyLinkpodcast.
Embark on a journey towards asafer and more secure life,
because your safety andwell-being is my priority.
Thank you.
