In this episode of The Scalable Expert, Tara Bryan dives into a truth that every overwhelmed expert needs to hear: simplicity is the most powerful value you can deliver. Your customers aren’t paying you for everything you know—they’re paying you for the fastest, clearest path to results. And yet, so many business owners unintentionally overcomplicate their programs by trying to over-deliver.

Tara breaks down why more content doesn’t equal more value and how a cluttered delivery system can actually prevent your customers from getting the outcomes they hired you for. She explains how to filter your content through a results-driven lens so you only include what supports your customer’s transformation—and remove what distracts them.

A prime example? The infamous video vault. While it may feel like a value-add, dumping dozens (or hundreds!) of videos into your program without a clear path is more likely to overwhelm than empower. Tara shares why this approach fails, and what to do instead to build a simple, scalable fulfillment system that drives participation, retention, and long-term growth.

Whether you're building a new program or reevaluating an existing one, this episode will help you rethink what your customers really need—and give you the freedom to deliver it with confidence and clarity.

Hey everybody.
Welcome to today's episode.
I am thrilled that you're here.

(00:46):
Hey, in this episode, I want to talk aboutsomething that is near and dear to my
heart, which is how do you actually createa scalable program or systems so that you
are helping your customers get results?
So I heard something the other day,and I thought it was brilliant.
And, so if this is you,you need to pay attention.

(01:08):
But she said, um, postingsocial media content is not
actually a marketing strategy.
Right?
It is something that you are doing.
It's an activity thatyou're doing to be visible.
But it's not your marketing strategy.
It is not even marketing.
All it is, is posting.

(01:28):
So posting is not thesame thing as marketing.
It's not the same thing as yourmarketing strategy and how you
are looking at how do you get outin front of your ideal prospect.
Okay.
It's a bigger, like marketingstrategy is a bigger thing.
Posting is an activity or a taskthat is part of a marketing strategy.

(01:50):
So, the same thing applies toyour customer delivery and your
customer fulfillment strategy.
Creating a course, creating a random pieceof content that you're giving to your
customers so that they can learn somethingis not your customer fulfillment system.

(02:12):
It is one small task or activitywithin your larger system.
So if you're looking at it like, okay, so I'm just going to create
a bunch of different courses.
Like somebody the other day waslike, I just created a hundred
new courses using ChatGPT!
I was like, super duper.
But that's not actually leading to whatyour ultimate customer fulfillment promise

(02:35):
is, which is a transformation or a resultthat you're giving to that customer.
And so when you try and patch, you know,a bunch of videos together, or patch a
bunch of courses together, or whateveryou want to call it, what you're doing is,
it's just same thing as just like postinga bunch of random stuff on social media.
It's not actually leading thatcustomer down that path from

(02:59):
point A to point B, right?
So the customer has a problemand they want the problem solved.
They're hiring you because you'regiving them the fastest path
to go from point A to point B.
That's why they're hiring you, right?
So whether you're delivering it as acourse, as a program, as a one on one
done for you service, as a coaching, itdoesn't matter how you're delivering it.

(03:25):
What you're delivering is theresult from them going from the
problem they have to the resultthat they're looking for, right?
Like you are delivering that path.
And so a bunch of random videosin a video vault or a bunch of
random courses that aren't actuallytaking them from point A to point
B that's not actually helping them.

(03:46):
So when you think about that andcompare it to posting on social
media, that's where most of thetime people have got it wrong.
If you're just posting randomly aboutrandom stuff that has nothing to do
with your business, or how somebodywould, you know, kind of travel down

(04:06):
the path of your value ladder in yourbusiness, then you're missing the target.
Same thing on the client fulfillment side.
If you're just like, yep, I'm justgoing to give you a bunch of random
topics and videos and courses andactually, I'm going to give you 552
of them, because I feel like the moreI can give you, the better off you're

(04:27):
going to be, then you're missing, you're just missing the boat, right?
So actually, you want to give them aslittle as possible for them to start
hitting targets that get them closer tothe result that they are looking for.
That, my friends, is what'sgoing to make you successful.
That is going to make your customers notonly stay and participate, but continue

(04:51):
to work with you on the next problemthey're trying to solve because they know
that you have the ability to give them anexperience that quickly takes them from
where they are to where they want to goin the path of least resistance, right?
So whenever somebody comes to me,they're like, well, I want a video
vault, I want to just put all my videosout there that I've recorded from,

(05:15):
you know, 50 years ago until today.
And I want to just alwaysbe creating new content.
The challenge with that is, that'snot actually serving your customers.
It's distracting your customers.
It's causing more chaos than what couldbe happening, which is you just giving
them the fastest path to success.

(05:37):
And so every single video you create, every single piece of content you
create, needs to go through thatfilter is, is it on the path?
Is it on the customer's journeyto going from point A to point B.
If it's not, then itdoesn't need to be there.
Move it into, you know, somethingthat helps attract your prospects.

(06:00):
If it's something that's super helpful forsomebody in the step that they're in, it
gives them more context, gives them morepractice, gives them a tip or trick of
something that they may not be thinkingabout that helps to simplify the process.
Great.
Then put another video in.
But if it's just there becauseyou want to add something that's

(06:21):
nice to have, take it out.
Don't put it in there.
If you insist on having a video vault, because I know a lot of my customers
insist on it, put it somewhere else.
Put it outside of the path and say,and here is more if you want to
take a deeper dive into any of thetopics that I have on the path, then
go here and experience that, right?

(06:44):
But don't put it on the actual path.
Your job as the expert is to takeall of the complexity out and
make it simple so somebody canfollow along and get to a result.
In fact, it should seem so simple to youthat it almost seems like you shouldn't
be selling it because it's too simple.

(07:06):
That is how simple this wholeprocess needs to be so somebody
can travel from point A to pointB, in the fastest way possible.
So my friends, hopefully thathelps to free you up that you don't
need to create a million videos.
You don't need to make it morecomplex than it already is.
You need to use your expertise tosimplify it down to its most simple

(07:31):
path so that somebody can be successful.
And in fact, and I'm going to tellyou this again, in fact, it should
seem so simple that you're like, why would anybody pay for this?
It's like, seems so simple.
And that my friend is when youhave hit your magic, because that
means that you have been able todistill it down into something
that's manageable for other people.

(07:53):
And that's what people are payingyou for, believe it or not.
Because what is simple to youis not simple to someone else.
Always remember that, whenyou have an expertise, what
you're doing seems so simple.
And it will seem so simple.
And that's when you know that you actuallyhave become the expert because you can
do it without thinking about it anymore.

(08:14):
So consider like, here's agreat example, like driving.
You may find yourself, at Target,or at work, or wherever it is that
you shop, right, a grocery store.
And you're like, how did I even get here?
Like, I'm not even paying attention.
I just ended up in this parking lot.
This is bizarre, right?
That is because driving for youis so automatic that you're not

(08:36):
even thinking about it anymore.
You know what to do with your feet.
You know what to do with your hands.
You know where to look.
You know how to do all the things.
Because it is something that youare an expert in, you don't even
need to think about it anymore.
That is exactly the level ofconfidence and competence you
have over your subject matter.
But people who are notexperts do not have that.

(08:58):
And so they're looking for youto give them that fast path.
The more you can do that, the better offyou are and the more successful you are
because you're able to get people results.
So just remember that.
And if you have this need to createmore, then, my friend, put it somewhere

(09:18):
else or think about how you can createmore along the same path, right?
So if you help somebody get from point Ato point B, now help them get from point
B to point C, and then point C to point D.
Like, that's where you could beputting in your more, because you're
helping them continuously solve newproblems, versus trying to give them

(09:42):
too much information for, the path thatthey're on that's not necessary for
what they need to keep moving forward.
Because as somebody becomes an expert,so as your students become experts,
they're going to naturally want moredepth and context and examples and

(10:02):
they're just going to get deeper intowhat it is that you are teaching them.
That is the point in timewhere you can give them more
because they are asking for it.
They're ready for it.
But that is like, you know, B to C, Cto D, D to E, you know, as you're going
down the road, and so, keep that in mind.
But hopefully this helps you asyou are trying to figure out,

(10:24):
how do I create what I'm creating?
Like, what, what's the level?
How much do I need to put in?
What's the difference betweena course and a program?
How do I look at all ofthese different things?
So hopefully that serves you.
