Speaker 1 (00:08):
Hello pet enthusiasts , welcome to Pet Chat.
My name is Jason Zakowski.
I'm the dog dad of BunsenBeaker, bernoulli Ginger.
I'm not sure if Ginger's a dog,though she's a cat, and I'm not
sure what.
Norbert is the beaver, butanyways, that's who I am.
My co-host is.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Hi there, I'm Chris Sikowski.
I'm the dog mom to Bunsen, beaker and Bernoulli, the cat
mom to Ginger, that's it.
And chickens and ducks.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
We have chickens and ducks.
Yes, it's a whole thing.
Chris, are you organized toshare, or do you want me to go
first?
I can share, okay.
So at this point, chris and Iare going to share a couple
stories about Bunsen, beaker andBernoulli and it may get you to
think about some questions.
You can type them up if you'rewatching live or put them in the
chat, or if you're on spaces, come up and chat.

(00:57):
Go ahead, chris.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Okay.
So the other two dogs loveBernoulli because he is a little
bit of a mischievous puppy, andif by a little bit I mean a lot
.
So I was painstakinglyorganizing some things for the
dogs to do and I had put thechews like a bag of chews in
another bag because we had to goquickly, and so I thought I'll

(01:22):
just put the chews in here andthen we'll go, and then I'll,
instead of itemizing them.
Anyway, bernoulli goes, oh, andthen he jumps up and he took
out three.
He can count, this dog cancount.
He took out three chews andbunsen and beaker were like whoa
what?
What is happening?
Because he's got one for bunsen, one for Bunsen, one for Beaker

(01:43):
and one for himself.
Well at least he's sharing.
Sharing is caring.
These other dogs were like whatthis is awesome.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
I know.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
So it kind of pays for his bitey self.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Oh my goodness, yeah, I love that.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
In the Kahoot game did you talk about ginger
maulings?

Speaker 1 (02:07):
No, but that is a question that a bunch of people
on Instagram were wonderingabout, because that's I forget
when I posted that, but it got,I don't know.
I think it's almost at 4million views on Instagram.
People are Lex Bondando fromInstagram is from Argentina, is
wondering how many days sincethe last Bernoulli mauling it

(02:29):
would be the ginger mauling.
Bernoulli doesn't really getmauled, he does the mauling and
that answer is zero, zero days.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
Still zero, still zero, zero days.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
Yeah, still zero.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
If we're counting the hours, it's better.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
We should go to hours .

Speaker 2 (02:43):
We should go to hours .
It's is better.
We should go to hours.
We should go to hours.
It's getting better.
But Ginger puts herself in theline of fire.
She really does.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
But she still hasn't brought out her claws and I have
to say Bernoulli is gettingbetter, like he's not dragging
her around like he did a monthago, so that's good.
So on my end with my stories,we did a couple adventures this
week.
We went to the mountains and wedid a hike with Bernoulli and

(03:13):
Bunsen and Beaker.
So we all three of us went andBernoulli got a little gassed.
It was about a kilometer and ahalf in and by the time we got
there it's a place called GrottoCanyon in Canmore.
Wonderful hike and then it comesout to this bluff where you can
see all of the Rocky Mountains, which is gorgeous.

(03:33):
Maybe you saw some photos thatwe posted and there is a sketchy
part that goes up over thisreally slippery rock and I was
not wearing the appropriateshoes, but also I was scared of
Bernoulli going up there and hewas so tired, so we decided to
pack it in and head back.
And then we went to our hiddenlake for lunch and Beaker got to

(03:56):
do some swimming in this lake, which was awesome, and Bunsen
and Beaker kind of lounged onshore and we had a nice lunch.
So that was the one adventure.
Do you want to talk about theother adventure we did with the
dogs.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
We went to a place just west of Nordig.
Yeah, nordig is a smallcommunity here in Alberta.
It's a beautiful location westof us which we don't typically
go to.
When I looked at the weatheradvisory, the weather advisory
said, wow, it's going to be ahigh of 26 and a beautiful day,
and as we were driving in, therewas definitely some smoke.

(04:31):
So when I looked up thewildfires Alberta they
definitely said there was aforest fire that just started 13
kilometers west of Nordic.
So I'm like this isn't good, this isn't great, this is kind
of terrible.
But it was a place called whitegoat falls and I had heard
about it from my nail lady ohyes yeah.

(04:53):
So she went with her friend andshe told me about these orange
flags that you have to look for, because she did not turn at the
orange flags.
There's not really a lot ofgreat signage, and so she said
you either can go like straightup or blah, blah, blah, blah,
blah.
And we actually ran intosomeone on our way in who told
us that you look for the arrowon the ground, an arrow made of

(05:14):
rocks.
And we did, and it was prettygood going down.
And then there was a supersketch, super sketch part.
Yes, before the super supersketch super sketch part before
the super, super sketch part.
And it's fine if we're just thetwo humans walking, but we had
the three dogs and Jason and Iwere talking.
Like when you have one dog,it's a little bit of work.
When you have two dogs, notmuch.

(05:35):
It's not that much more work, exponential when you have three
it just increases exponentiallywith the amount of work anyway.
So here we are trying toorganize our three dogs down
this scrambly, scrambly, scarysketch down to the bottom we did
.
Yeah, all of our dogs have prosand cons.
Pro of beaker she just runsthrough the water.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
She doesn't mind, she'll swim beaker is a beaker
is amazing hiker, like she doeseverything we ask yeah and then
b Bernoulli's a little bit.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
You know he's a puppy , so we have to be more aware of
him he was launching himself.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
He was launching himself into open space like if
he wasn't wearing his harness,he would just fly down the cliff
so that was the concern ofhaving a puppy.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
But then with Bunsen he doesn't really like the water
.
He does go in, and so there wasa point where he was not sure,
but he jumped it.
He jumped the creek I.
He does go in.
And so there was a point wherehe was not sure, but he jumped
it.
He jumped the Creek I was likewell good job buddy.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
And it was so worth it.
When we got to the falls, itwas beautiful.
We probably could have spent alittle bit more time there, but
there were these stupid blackbiting flies, these big biting
flies, and every time youstopped you got bit.
So that was annoying.
I wish I brought my Crocs orlike some water shoes, because I
would have waded into thewaterfall.
Beaker loved it, she just lovedit there.

(06:51):
Bunsen, when we got down to thewaterfall he just laid in the
mountain lake.
He just laid in the mountainlake.
So he was so hot and at thatpoint that he was okay being wet
.
There was also this bog on theway down that Beaker and
Bernoulli got into up to theirheads.
It was like this murky, dirtybog and they both of them

(07:14):
decided to have like a Nordicbath or something in this bog
and Bernoulli didn't want to go.
I think it felt so good becauseit was a bit of a hike to get
to that point.
And then I'm like Bernoulli,it't want to go.
I think it felt so good becauseit was a bit of a hike to get to
that point.
And then I'm like Bernoulli,it's time to go.
And he only had his head up outof the water and then he kind

(07:35):
of like slowly sunk into the boguntil only his little nose and
his eyes were poking out, because he didn't want to go.
It was so cute.
I wish I got it on video, but Ididn't.
He was being kind of like, youknow, a kid, it's time to go and
they just shrink into the pooleven more.
You can't see me.
Anyways, that was really.

(07:56):
We've got some really coolphotos and some video from that
which, if you follow us, I'veposted a few of those pictures
and videos.
Yeah, highly recommend it.
Goat White, goat Falls, chris, highly recommend it.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
Goat white, goat falls, chris.
And if you don't want to godown the super sketch part, you
can go to the right and goaround up on the ridge.
But then here's the kicker youhave to go down, you have to
rappel down yes the side of themountain yeah so some nice
camper or some nice hiker hasput a rope there for you to
rappel down?

(08:25):
We weren't, we were.
We thought maybe we wouldrappel up with the dogs.
No, that wasn't happening.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
I went up about.
Yeah, I tried it and it was notsafe.
Do you think you could do?
You think we could have done itwithout the dogs?

Speaker 2 (08:38):
Chris, A hundred percent.
We could have done it withoutthe dog.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
Yeah, 100% we could have done it without the dog.
Yeah, yeah, you would just gobetter to have the dog, so yeah
it was not, it wasn't super, itwasn't like you're coming down a
cliff, but it was pretty.
It was pretty steep and I wentup about I don't know a sixth of
the way and Beaker was fine.
Like if we had unclicked Beakershe would have made that, no,
but Bernoulli was like slidingback, like because he's got,

(09:05):
he's just a puppy right, he'd goooh and he would slide back
down the hill like a cartoonbecause it was kind of dusty and
dirty Like.
It was kind of like a dirt path, I guess.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
But it was really comical because he's like, oh no
, and he was like slowly slidingbackwards so I had to grab him
by his harness and I'm like, no,this is so dangerous, let's
just go the other way.
Which was fine.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
Well, until I fell on my face.

Speaker 1 (09:34):
Well, it's when you hike.
Depending on if it's notlabeled easy, the hike has
challenges in it, at least inAlberta.
Like a hike that's labeledmoderate means you are
moderately in mortal dangerbasically moderately remember
the ink pots?

Speaker 2 (09:53):
it should have said ink pots was moderate.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
It means like you, you know you're moderately at
risk for getting a heart attackfrom going up there.
Yeah, moderately, all right.
One of the sponsors of Pet Chatis BarkAndBeyondSupplycom.
Barkandbeyondsupplycom is asmall family owned company that
would love your support.
There's a code Bunsen that youcan use to save some money.

(10:19):
They sell toys and treats andthey have these really delicious
peanut butter treats for dogsand joint supplements.
We got the krill formation forBunsen and he loves it.
So check outBarkingBeyondSupplycom and use
the code Bunsen.
Save yourself some money andskip the big box store and help
out a small business.
All right, now, I haven't beenable to get ahold of them.

(10:43):
Usually there's a prize andthey do a great job of having a
prize.
I haven't been able to get ahold of them.
Usually there's a prize andthey do a great job of having a
prize.
I haven't been able to get ahold of them, so we won't have a
prize from Barkin Beyond thisweek.
But I think, chris, we can havea prize.
We can be our own sponsor andgive somebody a prize.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
Well, our other sponsor is the Science Podcast.

Speaker 1 (11:01):
That's right.
And so the Science Podcastcould definitely give out a
prize yeah, so at the end, ifyou're still around, we'll do a
draw.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
And I don't know, we got lots of stuff we could send
you maybe a multi-tool, maybe astress flask, something from the
ginger bundle like mr dress-upokay, that's a very canadian
reference it's true okay, sothere was a guy named mr
dress-up eddie coombs yeah, andhe had casey and finnegan I

(11:32):
think, I think his name wasernie.
Yeah, didn't I say ernie?

Speaker 1 (11:36):
you said eddie I said ernie okay I'm gonna go listen
back.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
I'm gonna listen, I'm gonna listen.
Maybe I said eddie, but ernieokay okay, I don't know what I
said, but anyway, very canadianhad casey and finnegan and it
was just really super awesome.

Speaker 1 (11:52):
I'm tickled trunk and everything was great yeah, mr,
dress up was amazing yeah I gotto see him speak at red deer
college, chris no, yep, he camewhen I was.
How lucky were you, I.
It was like people.
It was in my first year of myscience degree, when I was in,
when I was taking my sciencedegree way back when he came and

(12:13):
he spoke at red deer collegeand it was like all of these
adults who were just like cryingwith joy for this older man
from our beloved TV show whocame to speak, about being
whimsical and embracing joy.
Right, that's what you knowmake-believe playing, like

(12:37):
having fun playing around.
Yeah, it was a really good, really good talk.
Yeah, all right, should we moveto community sharing?
Did we miss anything?
Well, there's a lot thathappened this week, but I think
we can probably move tocommunity sharing and hog up the
time.
Sure, okay, all right.
So if you have a questioncomment, please type it up and

(12:58):
we can throw it into theJumbotron.
If you're watching live, it'shard to interact with us live.
If you are on spaces and you'dlike to share a story, ask a
question, request the mic.
Chris or I will bring you up ontwitter spaces, but please keep
in mind that we do double checkyour account to make sure
you're not a troll and you maynot come up if your account is

(13:18):
suspect ben, my personal trainer, said my nails were awesome too
.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
I got so many compliments and they're so
bright.
They're so much brighter thanusual.
Actually, guess what?

Speaker 1 (13:31):
they glow in the dark what I know, that's I know it's
crazy that is wild okay wildand crazy all right, we brought,
we've brought up rich, so we'llthrow the mic to Rich, who's on
Twitter audio right now SpacesHi guys, hey.
Hello, how you doing.

(13:51):
We are good, we hope you'rewell.

Speaker 5 (13:55):
Well, grandson gave me a chest cold which has
progressed to bronchitis, so Isound like a seal.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
Oh no.

Speaker 5 (14:03):
Yes, mr Coombs, wonderful Mr, mr coombs, the
wonderful mr coombs love thatguy.

Speaker 2 (14:12):
Uh, he worked he worked with mr rogers yep and he
was american.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
He was.
It was a canadian show, but hewas an american.

Speaker 5 (14:18):
That is true, yes, oh yeah, I grew up with casey as
much as I've ever grown up.
I grew up with Casey as much asI've ever grown up.
I grew up with Casey andFinnegan.
Oh, and back then it was Caseyand Finnegan and the Tickle
Trunk.
Yeah, and I'll throw anotherCanadian reference in there
Friendly Giant.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
The Friendly Giant.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
Yeah, I watched the Friendly Giant I go, look, look,
way up, and no one gets it, noone gets it Way up and no one
gets it, no one gets it.
Look way up, yeah, yeah, yeah.
And they're like what are you?

Speaker 5 (14:48):
talking about A chair for two to curl up Up in.
Yeah, very yeah, no, it was somuch.
I mean the recorder, and wasthat?
Greensleeves was the theme songthat he had.

Speaker 1 (15:04):
Oh, I forget.

Speaker 5 (15:05):
I'm sorry, I can hear it in my head and I mean here's
Rusty and I'll call here'sJerome and I'll call Rusty, or
is it the other way around?

Speaker 1 (15:14):
It's been a year or two, look way up and I'll call
Rusty.
Or is it the other way around?
It's been a year or two, lookway up and I'll call Rusty.
I think that's what he said, which Rusty was a rooster, right
Like a rooster puppet.

Speaker 5 (15:23):
Yeah, and then Jerome was a giraffe puppet, yep.
That is great, and everybodyunder the age of probably 40 or
50 is going.
What the hell are they talkingabout?
Exactly the theme song was earlyone morning, I just we had the
grandchildren for a few hoursand I just got them home and

(15:44):
asleep and my beloved wife cameand relieved me.
So anyway, there's not not awhole lot new and interesting.
We've discovered that one ofour cats really likes going in
our trailer.
Okay, she's, she's 16.
She has three teeth, none ofwhich match, none of which meet,

(16:05):
and the other cats tend tobully her a bit around food and
everything.
So we've been to pei for fouror five days.
My daughter, hannah, wasparticipating in the nova Scotia
Special Olympics Summer Gamesin Wolfville.
She came back with two golds, two silver and a bronze from

(16:28):
swimming.
Oh Not that I'm proud of her.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
Congratulations.

Speaker 5 (16:33):
So we were taking the cat with us in the trailer.
So we're taking the cat with usin the trailer and Baden dog is
deathly scared of her becauseshe keeps telling him that she's
going to rip his face off fromthe ears, even though she's got
no way of doing it anymore.
She was just so good in thetrailer.
We started her off in a catcarrier but she didn't like that
, so we just put her bed on thefloor of my truck and she just

(16:56):
curled up in that.
Baden stayed up on the seatbecause the expression on his
face was I'm not going near that.
Drove to PEI, and she was fine.
Drove to Wolfville she was fine, and we could leave the AC on
the trailer for her, and if weleft the screen door open she'd
sort of sit there with her nosewatching the world like a regal
queen that she is.

(17:16):
Her and baden used to argueover who got to look at the door
, so that's my pet story.
I love it, I've been busier thana one-legged man in a butt
kicking contest this summer ohman.

Speaker 1 (17:30):
well, I'm glad you got time to go away with hannah
that event so well done.

Speaker 5 (17:44):
I know I pushed the Special Olympics and I'll push
them again.

Speaker 1 (17:47):
Oh, you're breaking up, rich, you're breaking up a
bit.
Sorry, I think you were talkingabout the special Olympics Go
ahead.

Speaker 5 (18:01):
Yes, yeah, you may see some sportsman TV, but if
you want to see realsportsmanship, watch the special
Olympics.
They are just all suchwonderful people.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
What a nice message.
I love it.
Yep Anyway.

Speaker 5 (18:16):
I'm in my truck, I love it, yep.
Anyway, I'm in my truck.
I'm about to hit a dead zonewith the internet, so, um, I'll
shut up unless I come up withsomething witty to say later.

Speaker 1 (18:26):
Okay, take care of yourself.

Speaker 5 (18:28):
You too guys.

Speaker 1 (18:31):
All right, okay, so that was rich.
Uh, his dog is Baden.
Uh, he was on audio on Twitter.
Okay, anybody else on Twitteror audio on Twitter spaces want
to come up to share a story?
Go ahead.
I'm looking for comments thatpeople have left.
There was a bunch early on onInstagram, but I think we've

(18:52):
answered them about Ginger.
Some folks are commenting howmuch they love your nails on
meta.
What do you think, chris?
Would she do it?

Speaker 2 (19:06):
she would do it 100 yeah, she's pretty, pretty
docile.

Speaker 1 (19:09):
It's probably why she puts up with bernoulli yeah, I
think so.

Speaker 5 (19:15):
Oh Lord, those videos of Bernoulli torturing that
poor cat are just an absoluteboot.

Speaker 1 (19:24):
Yeah, they're a series that's the first one went
viral on Instagram, facebookand TikTok.
So yeah, we hit a chord withthat and of course we do monitor
Bernououlli so he's not hurtingthe cat.
If he does start to drag her,we stop it right away and that's
that's pretty much stopped.
It's more of like a pounce andthey have a little wrestle and

(19:47):
then they break off from it.

Speaker 5 (19:48):
So yeah on on that note.
One of my son's dogs, uh, usedto enjoy chasing barn cats and
they asked the vet what to doand more or less the response
was don't worry about it, you'lllook absolutely adorable with
one eye if they scratch it outon them.

Speaker 1 (20:09):
Oh man, yeah, we have heard that, that there can be
horrific injuries.
I guess you just have to rollthe dice.
They're very, very, very rare.
But I think the same chance ofthat happening is the same
chance of, like you know, a doggetting a stick and you don't
notice.

Speaker 5 (20:24):
They have a stick and they run with the stick and it
hurts the dogs when sean waslittle, we had a cat that was
declawed don't judge, and oh, hewasn't even talking, but he'd
come up behind the cat and grabher by the tail and she would
turn around and bat the snot outof his face with these gentle

(20:46):
pet.
Sorry, did I mention bronchitis?
Um, and she would just go pat, pat, pat, pat pat on his face
with her with her pot pads, andhe loved that, so it wasn't
really a deterrent for her to dothat that's kind of how she

(21:07):
does stuff with bernoulli, likeshe bats him, but she doesn't
bring those claws out, so yeahit's amazing to control cats
have over their claws.

Speaker 1 (21:16):
Yeah, they're amazing creatures actually.

Speaker 5 (21:19):
Now, with three cats, one dog and Mary, do I qualify
as a crazy cat person?

Speaker 1 (21:27):
Well, I think pet enthusiast is what we would say.
It's been a lot to your right.

Speaker 5 (21:34):
Yeah, that's why what you guys do is so important,
because the timeline, cleansesand the foolishness really help
one a person's mental healthwith all the silliness going on
in the world yeah, that'ssomething that we strive to do.

Speaker 1 (21:50):
We strive to be.
We do, you know, like we'llwade into science where it's
appropriate, because we are ascience communication account.
But since we got Bernoulliwe've been just, you know, just
sharing the joy of having alittle puppy.
So appreciate the comment there, rich.
But if you don't mind, we'll goto Snickerdoodle, who came up
to speak, and then jump back ina second.

Speaker 5 (22:11):
Sorry, I was just going to ask one more question.
Yeah, go ahead.
Did you ever come up with anactivity book for little kids?
We did.
Yeah, we do.

Speaker 1 (22:20):
It's the pup.
Okay, there's a pup version andit's on the front page of our
store.
Yep, yep, we did, and I think, yeah, we're pretty proud of it.
We got some good feedback fromthe little little kids.
So, yeah, All right, we'll goto Snickerdoodle.
Hello, go ahead.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
Hello, happy weekend to our Canadian listeners.

Speaker 1 (22:43):
Hello, hello.

Speaker 3 (22:46):
I was just wondering.
Maybe you or someone else cananswer this question.
I'm watching, you know thevideos with Bernoulli and Bunsen
.

Speaker 1 (23:01):
Do they recognize themselves as the same breed?
That's a good question.
And, like, dogs generally can'tsee themselves, so they have a
sense of self.
They generally, like untilabout five to six years ago,
maybe even longer, like 10 yearsago, the prevailing thought in
a lot of scientific discoursewas that dogs don't have a sense
of self, like, they don't knowthat they are themselves a thing

(23:25):
.
And they had.
They did some studies and theyhad to.
You know, they had to work atit differently and dogs do have
a sense of self.
It was a paw test and they hadlike a.
The dogs knew that if they wereon a blanket their paws would
get in the way.
So they knew that their pawswere attached to them and it was
them that was causing the issue.

(23:46):
So they got off the blanket.
And then there's somescientists working on a smell
test.
So that's a long way to get tothe whole idea of.
It's probably unlikely thatdogs recognize that they are the
same breed.
But I I did do like people askthat and I did a little bit of
research and one animalbehaviorist is like well, they

(24:08):
may not know they're the samebreed, but they do have similar.

Speaker 2 (24:12):
Like they, they move similarly because of their
physical structure, so it may beit's more fun for them to play
with a dog of a similar breedbecause of that we went to a
play day at waggles and therewas a cute little bernie's
mountain dog puppy and she wasjust like bunsen, shy and timid

(24:32):
and not really coming out.
But bernoulli is verygregarious and he's very in your
face and likes to play.
But with her he changed hisdemeanor and right away he went
over to her and he was like, ohyou, you're like me.
And then they were pawing ateach other like super cute, it
was the cutest thing that you'veever seen.

Speaker 1 (24:49):
I missed it on video.

Speaker 2 (24:50):
It would have broke the internet but yeah, but they
were the same breed, they lookthe same and have the same
mannerisms.
But Bernoulli recognized thathe needed to be more gentle with
her.

Speaker 3 (25:03):
Oh, it was a kid, but you got such incredible
instincts, they just know.
Yeah, the reason I was askingis my dog is a black lab border
collie cross and he has alwaysconnected with other labs and
other border Collies much morethan he does with other breeds
of dogs, so I just wonderedabout that.

Speaker 1 (25:22):
It could.
Yeah, like the the behaviorist.
It was actually in a blog poston Dr.
I'll have to find it.
I think it was on Dr ZazieTodd's blog.
She, she actually is a animalbehaviorist.
Anyways, it's probably how theymove and the energy that
matches right.

Speaker 3 (25:39):
Yeah, okay, that's very interesting.
So anyway, to our Canadianfriends, have a happy long
weekend.

Speaker 1 (25:46):
That's right, we do have a long weekend.

Speaker 3 (25:49):
Yeah, we do.
And only one more untilsummer's over.
Bunsen and Bernoulli will likethe snow.
We're going to love to seevideos of Bernoulli with his
first snowfalls.

Speaker 1 (26:03):
Oh, I can't wait, I cannot wait.

Speaker 3 (26:07):
It's going to be so cute.
Yeah, okay, thank you and happyweekend everyone.

Speaker 1 (26:15):
Appreciate it.

Speaker 5 (26:18):
Chris is nodding, but rolling back a little bit.
Baden seems to react to otherlabs and, believe it or not,
golden retrievers in a much moreplayful way, if you will, than,
say, other dogs and especiallyGoldens.

(26:40):
I don't know.
Baden seems to borrow theLabrador silly brain cell around
Goldens and they just both takeoff in a silly manner.
That's so cute and I don't knowif they's they move similarly.
They're similar sized or herecognizes goldens as a more

(27:02):
playful dog that is so tough.

Speaker 1 (27:05):
You know, that sounds like a really fun scientific
study.
And, of course, chris and I,because we run the science
podcast, we are always everyweek looking for the newest
science that's going on withpets, so if that ever comes up,
we'll make sure we telleverybody about it.
Okay, let's do some comments,chris.

(27:26):
Uh, so we have no more speakers, but obviously if you're on
spaces and you want to come up,ask a question, be part of the
conversation, we welcome you, sojust request the mic.
Kelly, who's watching onTwitter live, has made a comment
.
Has Ginger used her catio muchthis summer?
So, chris, do you want to fieldthat question?

Speaker 2 (27:45):
We put her in her catio as often as possible.
She loves being outside and Ijust refigured the top so it's
instead of closed off off.
It's a bit open with cage soshe can't get out.
So I'm excited to put her inthere.
But here's a here's a littleproblem, but it is a little
problem, I'm not gonna lie.

(28:06):
Jason has added to our birdfeeders.
We don't want our bird feederto be a cat feeder, so that's
why we have her on leash, that'swhy we put her in a catio.
Mice have gotten into her catio, but now I'm not sure with the
open top if, because I saw abird in there, but ginger wasn't
in there.
So I hope the birds are smartenough to not go in because they

(28:29):
can get in and out with thesame fencing that's on it or the
same mesh or whatever it is.
So I think they're just tryingdive bombing in there.
So we'll see, we'll see.
I haven't had the opportunityto put her in since I changed
the top, but it'll be like askylight, so really good for her
, but then she'll go yoink uh,it'll be like a cage match.

Speaker 1 (28:52):
If she's in there with the bird, only one survives
.
Brother, that's what's going tohappen.
It'll be.
That's my macho man impression.

Speaker 2 (29:03):
I was thinking that well, we had Randy the macho man
savage right here.

Speaker 1 (29:09):
The cream rises to the top.
Brother, I love that guy.

Speaker 2 (29:14):
I love that guy too.

Speaker 1 (29:17):
I was always him in wrestling video games.
Anyways, no, yeah, she'll killthat bird.
Chris, If that bird goes init's going to be dead and it's
on the bird.
It has the whole of the earthto be and it chooses to be in
the murder box with the cat Likeit's all you can do.
Okay, great comment from.

(29:37):
Thanks for the comment there.
Oh, who's that kelly?

Speaker 2 (29:41):
that's kelly did.

Speaker 1 (29:42):
I scared people away with my randy, savage.
People are leaving.
Sorry about that.
Rumsaurus asked or made acomment on instagram.
I have a doodle who loves alldogs but certainly he has a
special spot for doodles andpoodles, so it could be that
energy.
It's like you know, generallydogs of a breed have a similar

(30:05):
physical structure and theymight move similarly and it's a
bit of mirroring.
Who knows?

Speaker 2 (30:12):
I did creep on Dr Zazie Todd's Twitter feed and
she's participating in somethingcalled BarkFest and it's for
book lovers, and so one of thesessions that they have is dog
emotions that they're going tobe talking about.

Speaker 1 (30:24):
Oh, fun so it's something.

Speaker 2 (30:26):
I put a couple of the posts up into the chat, up into
the Jumbotron, the nest here onX, and if people are interested
, maybe they can read a book andregister and be part of the
discussion.
It looks like they're online.

Speaker 1 (30:42):
You betcha.
Yeah, dr Todd has been on theScience Podcast.
She's written two books, one'scalled Wag, one's called Fetch,
no One's called.
Per Wag and Per Wag and PerAbout cats and dogs.

Speaker 2 (30:55):
So I put one that's up for dogs and then another one
that was for cats, because shetalks about them both, which
appeals to our audience, becausewe're not only dog people here,
we're cat people too.

Speaker 1 (31:06):
Going through the comments on spaces, just giving
Tracy a remote hug, like a hugfrom far away.
Tracy wrote just checking in.
It's not a great day heretaking grief one day at a time.
If you remember, Tracy lost hercat Ricky.
I've been to a cat cafe to petand play with cats twice, which

(31:27):
helps, and they have kittens, which are probably what Ricky
looked like as a kitten.
So we're all thinking about you, Tracy, and yeah, the grieving
process just takes time and itaffects everybody a little bit
differently.
Any other comments in spacesthat you'd like to highlight,
Chris?
And then we'll go do one morefrom Metta Rich, you got your

(31:54):
hand up and then we'll go toAdrian Go ahead, rich.

Speaker 5 (31:58):
Yeah, I lost connection there for a few
minutes.
I don't know how much you heard, but Baden is a playful dog,
even though he's slightly senior, but golden retrievers seem to
bring out the one brain cellthat he has for play, because
he's always, always willing toplay with them.

(32:19):
You're saying about how dogsdon't react, don't know that
dogs are the same breed.
Yeah, it might be something todo with movement and goldens and
labs he's always ready to playwith, and other dogs it takes
just a little bit longer for himto warm up to them for play, if
you will.
So I don't know if that's.

Speaker 1 (32:40):
Nope, we got.

Speaker 5 (32:41):
your connection must have dropped right after that,
because that's, we did hear thatabout Spaden, yeah but the
other thing about awareness ishe is so good around the
grandchildren and he seems to bevery aware that they're small
humans and they get treated justslightly differently than the
bigger humans.
Not that he's a vicious dog,but he's much gentler around the

(33:04):
small people, if you know whatI mean that's so cool.

Speaker 1 (33:08):
When dogs are, they know how to regulate themselves
around little people.
Um yep, bunsen is generallypretty good that way.
Beaker is generally good.
Brunelli's brunley's stilllearning.
I'm pretty sure he would tacklea kid right now if they were
running and he wanted to chasethem.
That wouldn't be good.
So he's still.
He's still a puppy, yeah well,what?

Speaker 5 (33:28):
what is he about?
13, 14 weeks, now 18, 18 weeks?

Speaker 1 (33:34):
yeah, four months and bit.
We just did the new updategrowth size video.

Speaker 5 (33:39):
Yeah, so you're still going to firm hand with the cow
thing?

Speaker 1 (33:43):
That's my plan.
Yeah, all right, we'll go toAdrienne.
Adrienne's waiting.
Thanks, rich, adrienne, goahead.

Speaker 4 (33:54):
I just wanted to make two comments about the content
that you've been posting onTwitter.
One of them was that wheneverwe comment and like your videos
and things, that it makes yousmile, and I just wanted to say
that it makes us smile as well.
I think we all know that socialmedia can be a cesspool, but
you guys definitely bring thesmiles every day, several times

(34:16):
a day, so thank you for that.
And I also wanted to say that Ireally love the Pet Olympics
that you guys have been posting, and I've been scrolling through
the pictures and things of allof your followers posting their
pets digging and playing in thesnow, and it's just, it's very,
very cute playing in the snowand it's just, it's very, very

(34:38):
cute.
And I really appreciateeverything you guys do to spread
kindness and happiness ontwitter rather than just the
mess that it can be sometimes oh, that I'm tearing up, my eyes
are all watery.

Speaker 1 (34:48):
thank you, I was.
You know, I was awake early andI was having a coffee and
there's some content that iseasy for me to make and there's
some content that takes a bit oftime to make and it takes a bit
of time to do, like text frombunsen, right like that's that's

(35:09):
joke writing, and I'm justblown away that there's like, if
I look at how many people liketexts from Bunsen and leave
comments, it just it makes it soworthwhile to see that we do
what we post people.
It brings people joy and andthat's why it's easy to do the

(35:30):
hard stuff, I guess.
So I so appreciate that, thankyou.

Speaker 4 (35:35):
Of course, and also I wanted to tell you that I'm
sitting outside right nowbecause it has been a thousand
degrees at my house and itfinally rained, and so the dog
and the cat are both sittinghere watching the phone as you
guys are talking.
Just their heads are tiltingback and forth, and it's
adorable.

Speaker 1 (35:52):
Oh, thank you.

Speaker 2 (35:56):
Thank you, thank you.
Uh, the text from bunsen thisweek were on point.
They were very funny.
And last week, in the weekbefore, like we've had three
bangers in a row three weeks.
Well, that's jason, becausehe's the funniest person I know,
because he's like you shouldwrite the jokes.
And then he's like where's thepunch line?

Speaker 1 (36:17):
yeah they have to build to.
I don't know.
I've gotten better, like I'vegotten the.
I think the text from bunsenjoke writing has gotten better
because I've gotten moreexperience.
But we are like Chris and Ihave worked really hard, like
the first three weeks of thisthis summer, july we we built
text from Bunsen volume three,so it's been proofread and now

(36:39):
I'm taking the book and makingthe e-book and then we'll start
the audio book.
So it's for people who lovetext from Bunsen.
We do have the third versioncoming out for a pre-sale by the
end of September, start ofOctober, something like that.
The calendar Chris is workingon the special dates that go
into it.
I finished all of the pictures.
We have a couple excitingthings for people that love our

(37:02):
stuff.
The calendar's ready to go,probably next week, so we'll be
looking to do a pre-sale forthat for to give everybody kind
of the best, best deal if youget it early.
So all right, anybody else whowould like to come up to speak,
go ahead I saw.

Speaker 5 (37:19):
I just had to go review the Bunsen text and I
noticed he wasn't feeling well.

Speaker 1 (37:24):
He got COVID actually and he's been really sick, but
he's on the mend.

Speaker 2 (37:30):
They went to Quebec.
They had a great time in Quebec.
And then Adam came home onSaturday and I said, oh well, do
you work tomorrow, on Sunday?
And he's like, no.
I said, well, we're going to go, do like we're going to go to
it's called Glenifer Lake hereand would you like to come.
He's like, well, I might behaving some jet lag.
And I said, oh okay, well, letus know in the morning if you're

(37:52):
feeling, if you're feeling good.
And he's like, well, no, I hewas feeling tired and I'm like,
oh yeah, just rest.
He didn't have to work and thenon Monday he had to work at, I
think, 1130.
So he had time to go to the gymin the morning.
And he came home from the gymand he's like I destroyed.
And I said that doesn't soundright.

(38:14):
And then I gave him like westill have COVID tests at home,
the rapid tests and he's like, yeah, mom, it's positive.
And I'm like, oh no.
And then at work he called insick and then they rearranged
the schedule for everybody thisweek.
They've been so awesome andaccommodating for him to get
better and get healthy, sothat's better than him spreading
it around to everybody.

Speaker 1 (38:34):
But he's been really sick for like three days, like
unable to do much besides comeup for food and sleep in his
room.

Speaker 2 (38:47):
Well, it's been at least since last Saturday, jay,
or even sooner, because he had asore throat earlier than that.

Speaker 1 (38:50):
I guess yeah, five days maybe.

Speaker 2 (38:54):
Well, Saturday to.
Saturday is seven days Go ahead, rich, yeah, have him feel
better, better.
Well, right now he's sittingwith bunsen because bunsen is
the biggest toddler baby everbunsen we tried a new technique
so that we didn't hear himbarking, and it did not work.

(39:17):
So we're gonna have to think,go back to the drawing board
with that.
Adam's home now.
So I said, adam, can you pleasejust go sit with him?
And so that's what Adam's doing.
He's just so.
I said you can just sit withhim and scroll your phone.

Speaker 5 (39:28):
When I had a temperature from COVID and I'd
be lying on the sofa and thecats thought and again, like
Adam, not moving the whole whack.
The cats thought, great, here'sa non-moving hot water bottle,
will just sit on, which one ofthe cats is fine.
But ginger tom is a big boy andand when he lays on you,
especially in the middle of thenight, I sleep on my back and he

(39:50):
lays on my chest and you sortof half wake up and your chest
is all heavy.
I'm just old enough to worryabout things like coronaries and
everything, oh man.
And then there's this purringand this unlicensed acupuncture
on your shoulder and you go oh,it's just him.

Speaker 1 (40:08):
Is this a heart attack or a cat?
Oh, it's a cat, thank goodness.

Speaker 5 (40:13):
Wish Adam my best and hope he feels better soon.
And COVID sucks.
I've had a couple of times andit just it takes all the good
out of one.

Speaker 1 (40:21):
That's pretty draining.

Speaker 5 (40:19):
It takes all the good out of one.

Speaker 1 (40:24):
That's pretty draining.
Okay, chris, we have a really, really wholesome comment on
Instagram from the peoplewatching on Instagram.
Ramsora said I'm a recentfollower and I love your content
.
This is the first time I'mlistening to Pet Chat.
I didn't know about the SciencePodcast until just now.
Definitely going to check itout and I love that.

(40:48):
Thank you so much for that kindcomment.
And that's another thing thatwe put a ton of time into is the
podcast, the Science Podcast.
So actually I can turn thisinto a little ad for the Science
Podcast.
If you didn't know, chris and Irun the science podcast.
It breaks down the latestscience news and the latest

(41:09):
science news that's happeningwith pets, and every week we
have a really fun interview withsomebody who's an expert in
their field, usually a scientistand it's a lighthearted
conversation with the scientistsand then we usually ask them
about their pets.
The guest this week is Dr KyleStanley and he has a PhD in

(41:31):
media, but he specializes in howpop culture and social media
influence the world.
So it was a really interestingconversation with this guy world
.
So it was a really interestingconversation with this guy and
we got talking about the Royalfamily Chris, kate Middleton
about how social media basicallyforced the Royal's hands to

(41:52):
come out and talk about how KateMiddleton did have cancer.
You might remember that becauseyou were obsessed, do you
remember?
Like is Kate Middleton, doesshe have a body double?
You're, you're.
You were all into that when itwas a thing on social media.

Speaker 2 (42:05):
So no, jason, I was not.
I was reading all about it forsure, and we were all going.

Speaker 1 (42:12):
Oh, I hope she's okay yeah, of course it was all
tinged and we hope she's okay.

Speaker 2 (42:16):
Yeah it was all.
It was good enough for me forthem to say she needs time,
she's going to reappear or she'sgoing to resume royal duties at
a later date.
So I was okay, I was trustingthe royal family.
But then, you're right, socialmedia did definitely, with all
those conspiracy theories, rampit up yeah they, they didn't.

Speaker 1 (42:38):
They release a weird photo where it was edited and
there's a floating hand andthey're like what's going on
with this photo?
And they had to take the photodown.

Speaker 2 (42:47):
So they had the Mother's Day photo which showed
her, but it was edited.
Yeah, and Kate Middleton saidthat she had edited it.

Speaker 1 (42:58):
There was a viral post on Twitter, Chris.
It was wishing the oldest fivequintuplets a happy birthday.

Speaker 2 (43:06):
Oh, I saw that the 90-year-olds.

Speaker 1 (43:07):
The 90-year-olds, totally AI generated.
That is a fake photo and it gotmillions of likes and shares
and, if you look at it carefullylike a bunch of them have six
fingers or they've got somethingweird going on with them.
So that was an AI photo.
Did you see that one?

Speaker 2 (43:22):
I briefly glanced at it, but I didn't engage with
them.
So that was an AI photo.
Did you see that one?
I briefly glanced at it, but Ididn't engage with it.

Speaker 1 (43:27):
Yeah, totally fake.
Yeah, that was a totally fakething.
Wow, yeah, I know there's a lotof Facebook pages which are
like 100% AI generated.
That gets crazy, crazy sharesand views.
It's like this is a cute dogand you're like that's a cute
dog.
But you're like, wait a second.
This dog is in a room and inthis room is there's some

(43:49):
nightmare fuel.
There's something wrong withthis photo AI to make cute stuff
, but I don't know.
I think we're at the end of theshow.
Should we do a draw?

Speaker 2 (43:58):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (43:59):
Okay, so we're going to do a draw and we will send a
prize to whoever.
If you are watching live, dropa comment so we know that you're
still here.
If you're a live viewer onvideo, you're just a number to
us.
We don't know if you're stillhere.
So drop a comment and thenyou'll be in the draw.

(44:25):
How many people are on spaces?
Okay, how many?
We've got one person commenting.
Okay, pamela commented.
Okay, we got one person.
Okay, here we go.
Yes, now they're.
It's a bit of a delay toInstagram.
I forgot.

Speaker 2 (44:43):
Yes, 30 here in X Okay.

Speaker 1 (44:48):
I don't like calling it X.
Oh, we have a winner who is noton Spaces.
Yeah, we have somebody who'snot on Spaces.
So somebody from Facebook haswon Suzanne, who's watching live

(45:10):
.
Okay, so this is Suzanne, youwon.
You're the 35th number on mylist, so congratulations.
Suzanne is watching us live onTwitter video.

Speaker 2 (45:27):
Suzanne send.

Speaker 1 (45:27):
On Twitter video or on facebook video?
No, twitter video.
It it all emagulates to thecomments between twitter and
facebook into a feed.

Speaker 2 (45:33):
Chris, it's weird, you don't get to see it but I
saw suzanne's name on the bottomof the live here.

Speaker 1 (45:38):
Yeah, I just threw, put it up on live.
So, suzanne, please dm us.
If you're watching on twitter, you can dm us on twitter, we'll
get to it and but if she's onfacebook, can she dm us on
facebook?
What?
No, I made a mistake.
The she's on.
She's watching on twitter oh,from twitter live twitter live.
Yeah, twitter live.
This this is becoming a techtalk.

(45:59):
It's not important, but I'mwatching like two separate feeds
because stupid stream yard or Idon't know, it's dumb instagram
.
They aren't talking to eachother, so I have to watch the
instagram feed separate from thestream yard feed.
It's a thing.
It's cool, though, so where?

Speaker 2 (46:17):
is suzanne from.
Suzanne is from twitter livetwitter live.

Speaker 1 (46:20):
Yeah, if I.
Yeah, so you can see.
Do you see, when I put it up onthe jumbotron, it has a little
X symbol.

Speaker 2 (46:26):
Oh, it does.

Speaker 1 (46:27):
Yeah, and then.
So if somebody from Facebookmakes a comment like Madison, it
has a little F symbol.

Speaker 2 (46:33):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (46:34):
And then nobody on live gets to see the Instagram
people, because it's a separatefeed that only I see, but they
get to see us, so it's a wholething.
It's a separate feed that onlyI see, but they get to see us,
so it's a whole thing.

Speaker 2 (46:46):
It's a thing, it's a time and a show.

Speaker 1 (46:48):
Yeah, it is All right .

Speaker 2 (46:51):
Congratulations, Suzanne.
We will send you a prize.
You just have to DM us youraddress.

Speaker 1 (46:56):
That's right.
Okay, and just a reminder.
We're running a big sale thissummer on all of our stuffed
animals, so if you use the codeso fluffy, save 15 on a bunsen
beaker, ginger stuffy.
So that's a great deal becausethey're inflation proof, because

(47:17):
we bought in before things wentbananas, which means you save
on inflation.
I don't know, I'm not aneconomist.
It's a good deal.
Okay, anything else to addbefore we wrap up?
Chris?

Speaker 2 (47:30):
I just wanted to give a shout out to Indra, our
partner.

Speaker 1 (47:33):
Mm-hmm.

Speaker 2 (47:34):
Yeah, with the Positivity Vibe Tribe.
Yeah, definitely has a positiveTwitter space where she talks
about positivity, resilience andthe being able to thrive.

Speaker 1 (47:48):
Yeah, indra is a great follow.

Speaker 2 (47:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (47:54):
All right, it's the wrap up music.
Well, hey, thanks for coming tothe show.
To all of our new viewers whotuned in because you watched a
puppy maul a cat, thank you verymuch.
Thank you to the folks whofollowed us from our viral video
.
I do have to say that we havebeen working hard to grow

(48:15):
Instagram and Facebook andTwitter and it's been really
cool to see that we now have agrowing community everywhere.
We were mostly Twitter-centric.
And to everybody watching us onInstagram, thank you.
Oh, chris, has Ginger Ginger'sdoing great.
You know, during Christmas Ithink we had 21,000 followers on

(48:37):
Instagram and now it's at60-something.
I don't know, I have to check.
So it's more than tripledFacebook we didn't even really
have.
We had 1,000 followers and nowit's getting close to 20,000.
So thank you very much forjoining us from these other
platforms.
It's a really fun community andwe do this show every single

(48:58):
Saturday Pet Chat and it runskind of the same way.
So it's kind of, I guess,because it's got a pattern, it
feels very cozy.
That's what I like about it.
I look forward to running theshow with Chris every week.
All right, anything else, chris?
Oh, there's Bernoulli.

Speaker 2 (49:18):
Yeah, I'm just doing show and tell.
So this is Bernoulli.

Speaker 1 (49:23):
We should have done you holding him because I'm just
doing show and tell.
So this is Bernoulli.
We should have done you holdinghim because I'm so big.
I don't think it shows off howbig Bernoulli is because I'm
already like a very tall guy,but when Chris holds him he
looks like a monster.
I think Chris is going to pickup Bernoulli.

Speaker 2 (49:42):
No.

Speaker 1 (49:42):
No, okay.
I'm going to put Beaker here, yeah there's Beaker.
Yeah, so if you're watchinglive, you can see them.
Beaker is a good hiker, I'lltell you.
Yeah, she's a good girl andbunsen is so handy going uphill.

(50:03):
So whoever has bunsen, he justpulls you up the hill.
So that is a good thing abouthaving bunsen.
Not so good going down steepslopes, we found out I had a
little bit of fear in him beakeris just like what do to do?
like a little mountain goatmoving around ever nearly was
like launching, he was launchinghim like he was had a harness
on and he was clicked into hisback.

(50:24):
And he was launching him likehe was had a harness on it and
he was clicked into his back andhe was like whoa, and he was
gonna jump down the hill and ifI didn't have a death grip on
him it would have gone badly andI was like, oh man, this little
guy.
And then he was fine because hejust follows Beaker, because he
loves her, so he just wentright through the water.
Beaker went through the waterand he's like okay, I think he's

(50:44):
like boy, that was deep, causeit was up to his head Like he
almost had to swim across theCreek.
