Speaker 1 (00:01):
Okay, go.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Hello pet enthusiasts
, Welcome to Pet Chat.
My name is Jason Zakowski.
I'm the dog dad of the scienceanimals of social media.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
My co-host is Hi
there, I'm Chris Zakowski and I
am the dog mom to Bunsen, beakerand Bernoulli and the cat mom
to Ginger.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Every week on Pet
Chat, we bring together the
community from across all thedifferent social media platforms
to tell stories, listen to usabout the shenanigans.
We multicast, we're live ontwitter or x with audio and
their video and, as well, we'relive on facebook and instagram.
So it's good to see everybody, our we have our community from
(00:54):
all four social media sites alltogether here.
Anything you'd like to share ofthe week just that bunsen's
getting better slowly.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
As we have him on
rest Every day he goes into the
front room and gets to hang outthere all by himself all day
long, but not really by himself, because Ginger runs in and
wants to hang out with him allday.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
I know.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
It's very sweet.
But then she's stuck in thereall day with him.
So sometimes Adam comes home orAdam is home at lunch and then
he lets her out.
But because he's my cat was inthere with Bunsen I said I know
she chooses to go in there.
She runs.
So Ginger is a ninja, she is,she's very quick and if you've
(01:41):
seen her dart for the door, shegives NASA's dart a run for its
money because she can get out soquickly.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
She's very fast,
she's very fast.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
She's very fast and
so when she has her eyes on the
prize she knows how to get therequickly.
I opened the door to put Bunsenin there and it's a bit of a
shenanigan, right Cause I'mtrying to corral Bernoulli if
he's home.
And then what do you do withBeaker?
She just follows along, butshe's a good girl, and then
Ginger just darts in there withhim and it's cute.
(02:14):
The other news of the week isBernoulli has been going back to
Wiggles.
He's back at Wiggles and theydid a kind of slow start with
him, ease him back into beingwith his friends and then just
definitely watching forbehaviors that might be
concerning.
And Bernoulli is such a goodboy.
He played really well with allhis friends, like his little
(02:36):
friend Milo.
They played really well.
Cooper kept licking his face.
He's I missed you so much, bernoulli, I am going to lick
your face incessantly.
And so Bernoulli was finallylike can you stop?
Can you just stop licking myface?
And Cooper did.
It was really good.
It was good to hear that he wasdoing great, played really well
(02:56):
with his other friend, jet, andit was also a really funny
story.
They have another burner there,a larger burner, bernie's
mountain dog named Sonny andBernoulli was like my brother's
here, cause he thought from afarit was Bunsen.
So he goes running up with abig boy bark and he's like hi,
(03:18):
brother.
And then he's like no, you'renot my brother, alert alert.
And yeah, so it was funny, because it's like when you're
human and you wave like oh, Idon't know you, and then you do
the awkward.
I was just playing with my hair, I wasn't waving yeah yeah, so
that's what bernoulli did.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
Oh, you're not my
brother man, I get caught with
that like once a month as ateacher because a kid will be
waving as I'm walking down thehallway.
Now kids wave to me when theysee me, but then sometimes kids
wave to friends that are justwalking behind me and I'm like I
don't really teach that kid, Idon't know that kid, so I like
give them an awkward wave andthen I realized they're waving
(03:58):
to a kid behind me and it'sembarrassing.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
Um, so now you're
just living it.
You're like hey, yeah, Hi, howare you?
Speaker 2 (04:06):
Yeah, I just give
them finger guns.
Now, if they wave at me, I'mlike like that's way less
embarrassing.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
I build school
community.
That's what I do.
I walk up to people and thenI'm like, oh hey, how's it going
?
And then I'm like, oh hey, soand so's friend, because I don't
know their name.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
Yeah, yeah, Any kid,
I don't know that when they're.
We have this large science labarea called the science park
You've probably seen it in someof our videos and when it's time
for individual work, some kidslike to go work out in that area
because there's lots of goodnatural light and it gets them
up out of their desk and by andlarge they work really good
because they're academic kids.
(04:43):
They just wanted some other, different place to work.
But their little friends comefrom other classes who were on a
bathroom break or a quoteunquote bathroom break.
And then any kid I don't knowif it's a girl, I call them
Phoebe, Rachel or Monica, likefrom friends, and if it's a boy,
I don't know, they're just Ross, they're always Ross, and
they're confused.
I'm like Phoebe, what are youdoing?
(05:04):
And the kids are looking around.
I'm like Phoebe, what class areyou supposed to be in?
And they're like biology.
And then my students are alwayslike that's not Phoebe.
I'm like it's Phoebe.
Now Get to class Phoebe, andthen they slink away.
But that's not part of Pet Chat.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
No, no, that's just
the awkward segue.
When I was, bernoulli thoughtthe burner was his brother and
we got off track.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Yeah, exactly so it's
been.
It's been fairly cold this weekso it's been tough to get the
dogs out.
We went on a.
I took Bernoulli and Beaker ona big walk today and I think it
was a bit too cold.
For Beaker.
It was like at that sweet spotshe probably needed some syrup
(05:51):
to wear her snow pants.
And there's.
It's supposed to be frigid thenext three or four days, like
with wind chill down to minus 45.
Did you see the warning out ofCalgary about that, chris?
That's crazy, crazy I did.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
Yeah, I saw that I
wanted to block it and wash my
eyes out from the eyewashstation okay yeah, andy, on the
office and he's screaming.
That was me looking at theforecast, yeah bernoulli has
done his treat.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
oh, he's gonna take
that treat here.
You go over there and thenwe'll just turn the camera
around so people can see you.
There we go.
Sorry, I'm just trying toorganize the Bernoulli cam.
When he's done his treat hegets to go upstairs and I'll try
to get all the animals on live.
There we go.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
I've done that when I
was sharing a story, because
now I don't have any stories totell.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
We can definitely
talk about our Valentine's posts
.
They take quite a bit of workand they generally.
I've said this so many times.
If somebody told me six orseven years ago I would be
setting up Zoom dates to makeValentine's Day dates with dogs,
I'd be very skeptical.
But Beaker had her annual datewith Benny and that was very
(07:06):
cute.
I see Lisa is here on Twitterlistening, so Lisa also did a
great job sending us some B-rolland pictures to make it really
sweet.
And then new this year isBernoulli has a little sweetie
named Chesney and Chesney is theservice Rottweiler of Marla
named Chesney, and Chesney isthe service Rottweiler of Marla,
(07:27):
and Chesney and Benny are onsocial media, on Instagram and X
or Twitter.
So that was pretty cute.
But aside from that, we havesome questions about how cold it
is and if school is canceled.
Generally, school is notcanceled unless there's lots of
snow, and that's for ruralcommunities because the buses
can't safely get to pick kids upbefore the plows go.
(07:48):
But for city schools it nevershuts down, no matter the snow,
no matter the cold.
School in alberta, canada, doesnot shut down for cities.
There is no low temperature andthere's no amount of snow that
will shut school down Never.
Hopefully that answers yourquestion.
(08:09):
I did teach at a rural schooland there was the occasional
snow day, which was cool.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
No teachers were
expected to try to make it in.
Speaker 5 (08:20):
Try.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
There was that one
day you had the flu.
Yep and you were so sick andyou're like oh, I'm like, I'll
make sub plans for you, I willtype.
You just talk, I will type yeahand then they at that time they
had a phone out fan list, likethe staff fan list, and that you
(08:41):
got a call and the person said, hey, it's a snow day and your
exact words were thank God andyou hung up the phone and you
went back to bed.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
Yeah, that was a win
because I wasn't coming in
anyways and then I didn't haveto make sub plans, because kids
still come on snow days butthere's 5% of the school, so
usually some lucky teacher whomakes it in.
They got to watch like all thekids.
So that kind of sucks.
So I feel bad.
That feel bad.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
Yeah, yeah, we make
an alternate schedule.
Like here you have these ones.
You do this.
We're going to combine classesand and I'm not going to lie.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
The one snow day,
chris, and when I taught at that
rural school, I just brought my.
The Wii had just come out.
So I just brought the Wii andme and three kids just played
the Wii all day long.
Tennis, wii, tennis.
Remember how fun Wii Tennis was?
Yeah, because there's literallythree kids.
People are talking about howthey have, like they're canceled
(09:42):
for different reasons and it'scanceled in Ontario.
And do people have suvs?
No, not everybody has suvs.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
It's just how it is
get to school.
Brave the roads, just drivereal.
Jason has it.
Jason has a yaris.
Yeah, I got a little car alittle car and, okay, this car
is very light and I couldn'teven get out of Waggles.
So there's the other day.
So Jason went to Calgary topresent at Teachers Convention,
which is awesome, but then thatleft me holding the bag for
(10:13):
everything and I had to pick upRenewy from Waggles and they
have a slight, so slight slopeInclined getting out onto the
road and not even If you wouldlook at it, look at you'd be
like that's not bad.
Let me tell you it was becauseit was a little bit icy and I
(10:34):
went forward and then there'scars coming so I had to wait and
then I'm spinning out.
So then I'm like I'm gonna takea run at it.
So I backed up and then triedagain.
Nope, did not get enoughforward momentum to get up onto
the road and Bernoulli's in theback going.
What's your deal Like?
Speaker 2 (10:51):
why can't you drive
and you just give her?
You just give her, Chris.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
Oh, jason, I was
spinning out really bad.
I could smell the ice melt, slash rubber, whatever that
smell is.
It was not going well for me.
So then now I have third time'sa charm, right.
But now the mom or dog, dad,who was behind like picking up
behind me, is now behind me andthey had to back down the
driveway and then I go.
I was able to get out because Ihad to time it where there
(11:16):
wasn't any cars passing.
It was not good.
Jason, you have all seasons onthere and I you do not have
winters.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
I know I probably
should have put winter tires on
it.
I was cheaping out because Iwould have required both a
summer and winter set and I waslike I'll just get all seasons
this year and then winter tiresnext year.
So that's why it's a bit of aproblem.
And yeah, we got the Yarsbecause I was teaching a good 40
minute drive away for a 35minute drive.
(11:47):
It was a bit of a commute tothe other school and the Yaris
was really good on gas and wedidn't expect we'd have three
dogs and I would then take aposition in the city.
I think you could probably fitthree dogs in there.
Beaker and Bernoulli fit quitecomfortably in the back of the
Yaris.
I don't know about all three ofthem and that's what the van's
for.
But I'm going to move thecamera upstairs.
(12:07):
So, chris, you're going to bewithout me for a second here, is
that okay?
Can you hold down the fort?
You can probably bring peopleup to start sharing and then
I'll be right back.
Speaker 3 (12:21):
Because we already
talked about the Valentines.
You said that we were going todo that during the Valentine's.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
Oh, yeah, okay, Oops,
I'll be back.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
Oh, hello everyone.
I would like to reset the room.
This is Pet Chat.
Welcome to Pet Chat.
And we are here to share ourstories of the shenanigans of
the week, and then we're alsohere to listen to your pet
stories, and I'm going to bringup people to speak from the
audience.
Now Jason live streams tovarious social medias, so the
(12:50):
people who come up to speak arefrom the X community and I'm
going to bring up the requestbutton here and I'm going to
bring up Rich, who has bathed inthe chocolate goofball, and
Rich lives in eastern Canada, inin nova scotia.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
Hey, rich, rich hey,
chris, how you doing good, how
are you?
Not too shabby.
I see that the dad guy managedto come through for valentine's,
even though he was wanderedaway from home yeah, he was
actually really good.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
Like I texted him in
the morning hey, good morning,
happy Valentine's Day.
And then he said, hey, did youlook in the blue bag?
And now and then it wasn'tactually a blue bag, it was a
Costco bag and there waschocolates in there and a coffee
mug and I was like, oh yes, because Ferrero Rocher are
delicious.
So I definitely was so excitedabout those.
For Rocher mistake was themistake was taking them in the
(13:47):
vehicle with me and eating themon my way to the gym.
They're not calories if you'reon your way to burn them off,
but I ate them.
And then I went and worked outand then I left the gym and then
I ate the rest of them.
So I was eating my feelings andeating regret.
Actually, I didn't feel goodafter eating a whole thing of
ferrero rocher a hint forgetting out of slight hills with
(14:10):
your yaris.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
Yeah, go backwards um
you.
You have too much faith in mydriving skills no, but um, if
you can't make it up forwards,if you turn.
Okay, now I'm pulling out of aroad can be bad, but going
backwards transfers the weight.
(14:34):
Oh, lord baden's next to me andhe just passed wind if I die
remember, I like you guys restin peace no, but it transfers
the weight onto the front wheels.
So you go up the hill better, because when you're trying to go
(14:54):
up frontwards as you accelerate, the weight comes off the front
wheels okay, so you don't haveany traction I didn't, but
that's good news.
Speaker 3 (15:03):
Everybody who's
watching on the camera.
Bernoulli just went up andsnatched a glove that's on top
of his crate?
Speaker 2 (15:09):
Oh no, he did.
Do you want me to go see?
Speaker 3 (15:10):
Yeah, he did.
Yes, I do.
So this is another story of theweek, so you can see his dog
crate there if you're on liveand it's becoming a catch-all.
It's winter, so you take yourgloves off, you take your toque
off and just putting them on thetop there which I'm trying to
avoid, but it's happening.
And I went to town today and Ipicked up the mail and then I
(15:35):
came home and there's like blackchunks of stuff all over right
where Jason is, and it was theremnant.
I'm like what is here, what isthis?
And Jason said do you want thegood news or the bad news?
And I said what?
So that happened, and nowBernoulli is going to probably
do it again, because he's beenself-serving getting these mitts
(15:55):
, anyway.
So thank you for the tip ofdriving, rich.
I don't think, though, I couldback up the vehicle very
effectively.
I can back down my own drivewayand I may have driven off the
driveway doing that.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
May I tell a moose
story?
Speaker 3 (16:14):
Yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
Mid-90s I was with
Bedford Institute of
Oceanography and, mostspecifically, I was supporting
the Canadian HydrographicService, and Newfoundland has
more moose per square mile thanpractically anywhere else in the
world.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
I did know that.
Okay, I did know that.
Yes.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
We were working in a
place called Illamort,
Newfoundland Newfoundland issuch interesting place names,
Chris will recognize.
Illamort means Dead Island, butanyway.
So I needed some parts airfreighted in from Halifax and we
needed them the next day.
So the nearest airport toIllamort is Cornerbrook.
(17:04):
So after supper I grabbed aDodge Neon.
So just to give an idea howlong ago it was, Dodge Neon was
a new car back then.
I drive to Cornerbrook in thedark.
Oh wow, so like the 90s mid 90sand have to wait a while for the
parts to clear.
Whatever finally get the partson the way.
Up there I got into a I duckedinto, with a convoy of trucks
(17:26):
going.
Moose were not an issue at thatpoint, but coming back at about
two o'clock in the morningthere weren't any more trucks on
the road.
So I'm southbound, I'm going ata reasonable clip, pop up over
hill and there's two moose alsoheading southbound.
The problem is I was doingprobably 100 kilometers an hour
(17:49):
and they weren't.
And if you want a rudeawakening at 2.30 in the morning
when you're driving, comeacross a couple of moose from
the rear.
It woke me right up and youdon't really realize how small a
neon is and how big the buttend of a moose is, until you
almost run into one.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
Going 100 kilometers
an hour.
That's crazy.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
Yes.
Scary too, going 100 kilometersan hour.
That's crazy, yes, scary too.
Yeah, moose are.
Moose are very big for sure.
Speaking of newfoundland, uh,there's a show called um hudson
and rex, which is a detectiveshow shot in st john's and it
features a german shepherd andthe show.
He's called Rex Right and hispartner, charlie Hudson.
(18:35):
And Rex was not particularlyold and it was discovered while
filming this season that he hada late stage cancer and
unfortunately we lost anotherdoggo.
And it's tragic, and I knowthese things happen, but it's
sad to lose yes, losing anotherone.
(18:55):
Now his nephews have been takingover for him and on the show on
the show, yeah, they're notquite as he was doing the show,
for this would be a seventhseason.
So he was, he was incrediblywell trained and all that sort
of thing, and they're startingto get there and it's still fun
to watch, but it's a littledifferent knowing that one of my
(19:19):
favorite doggos is no longerwith us.
That's tough.
And, on a funny note, baden andI were watching it one day and
Rex started on the TV show.
Rex his actual name is DieselVon Bushwald, I think Rex
started to whine about somethingand Baden's head popped up and
(19:41):
he looked quite intently at theTV, as if to say okay, buddy,
I'm coming.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
Yeah, it's very sad
when the animals you grow
attached to, both on socialmedia and then also on TV shows
and movies.
They generally don't outlive us, so we them pass and it's quite
sad.
Yeah, yeah, and what was thename of that show?
Speaker 1 (20:00):
again, just to wrap
up uh, hudson and rex it's on
city tv, okay, in canada okay, and it's also on in the states,
but I'm not entirely sure.
Actually, it's worldwide.
It's gone into syndication.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
Okay, so appreciate
you.
Yeah, so appreciate you, chiming in, thank you.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
Jason, you're
ignoring me.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
What.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
I've texted you.
Oh what Is our bedroom doorclosed?
Speaker 2 (20:24):
I've closed
everything.
Yeah, I went up there and Iclosed.
All the doors were open and areally nice comment from Dakota
says sending much love to yourawesome family.
I live in North Carolina now,but I grew up in Milk River,
alberta.
Your posts helped me so muchthese last few months.
Thank you so much, aw.
And then Bayou Alfred says howis Bunsen's mental health faring
(20:45):
with his confinement?
Is the big fella doing okay?
And I would have to say 90%.
He's doing good, would youagree?
Like during the day we're gonehe's he just cause a couch
potato anyway, and he does get alittle sad when we have to keep
him on one side of the room forhis own good.
But aside from that I thinkhe's doing okay.
Speaker 3 (21:06):
Jason when I leave
for work, I've given him his
drugs.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
Oh yeah, he has drugs
.
Speaker 3 (21:17):
He has fairly
significant I forgot pain
medication, yeah, I put it incheese and the other dogs come
running and drooling becausethey love cheese.
It's oh cheese fest here, yeahand buns is just so good like I
don't even have to squish it up,that good, I can just hold it
in my palm and then take it.
And he takes the whole pill.
Yeah, both pills.
Speaker 5 (21:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
But he only takes one
in the morning and then a
different one at night.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
That's true, yeah,
all right.
Yeah, he's on Gabopentin andOxyContin for two weeks.
Yeah, good, for two weeks.
Yeah, we've just got somequestions on what it is.
All right, we'll go to DonnaJamie and then Cottage Oven.
Donna, hello, good to hear you.
Hello y'all how are you Good, and how?
Speaker 4 (22:01):
are you?
Speaker 2 (22:02):
Hello.
Speaker 4 (22:02):
For those who don't
know, Canada just scored 1-0.
Yay, Canada.
I think Rich was listening toit with the sound on because I
could hear it when he wastalking and now I don't hear it.
So go Canada.
So I've missed y'all.
It's been crazy weather outhere.
We went from those severe firesto massive monsoons with
(22:23):
mudslides, so I've seen all theweather out here.
But, not to make anybodyjealous, we have beautiful
snow-capped mountains around mein three directions and it's 74
degrees.
It's beautiful.
Today my funny story is beingin California and people can
talk about this.
There's psychics and thenthere's pet psychics.
(22:46):
Callie got talked to from a petpsychic.
I'm dying.
I am absolutely dying becauseshe nailed it, absolutely nailed
it.
She said Callie knows that Ilove her dearly and she loves me
dearly, but she thinks I'm toostrict.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
And.
Speaker 4 (23:06):
I said hold up a
minute, define strict.
And they said the psychic saidit's because I stopped giving
her a lot of treats and foodwhen I come home from trips,
because I'm not on trips anymoreand so she feels like she's
being slighted.
She told the psychic that Ialways bring her a present home
(23:26):
and I haven't left in a whileand that she's glad I'm home but
that she loves me.
And that was quite the driveand she goes.
Did you go on a long drive withher recently?
I said yeah, I moved from Texasto here.
I just thought that was bananas, just bananas.
So I have my mind blown forjust a minute.
But Sasha's here now too.
(23:47):
So I got to take Sasha on alittle walk around the lake
that's by me.
Today she's 15 and for a huskythat's pretty old.
So she's starting to lose hereyesight and her legs are going
a little bit, but she still actslike a puppy.
But things are good.
I am trying to keep y'all assafe as possible with our new
administration, removing all theguardrails on food safety and
(24:11):
who knows what about what.
So I still have access tothings.
I'll post it whenever I see it.
I've had some DMs asking melike hey, where do you go?
And I said, don't worry, I'llkeep y'all going.
I always tag y'all, but in caseI miss one, y'all can always DM
me and I'll tell you where tolook, if that's helpful.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
It is Donna, thank
you.
And for people that arewatching live that maybe don't
know, we Donna's nickname isfood safety, donna Craig.
So we we especially on Twitterwe repost what when there's food
recalls or possible foodcontamination bulletins.
So that's what she wasreferencing.
Speaker 4 (24:47):
There's that bad one
right now with.
There's that terrible one withthe tuna that is in a lot of big
soapbox stores like TraderJoe's H-E-B down south in Texas.
But Trader Joe's has it, costcoit's their tuna.
Just be careful and doublecheck that you don't have it,
because it's a massive botulismand all these diseases were
(25:10):
almost gone, but they're notright now, so it's a little
scary, so be careful.
Speaker 2 (25:15):
Thanks, donna.
Just some quick comments fromthe live and then we'll go to
Jamie who's on audio right now.
A good one.
Chris.
Somebody asked do you takeBunsen's harness off at night?
And the answer is yeah.
Yeah, he doesn't wear hisharness at night.
His harness is just there.
It's like his collar and it'spretty comfortable on him.
(25:35):
It's no different than reallywearing a collar.
It doesn't seem to bother him.
We also take it off when he'shome alone during the day, but
when we're at home.
Speaker 3 (25:47):
he wears that harness
that he has on right now.
If you're wondering, and thereason that is is because if
he's in the kitchen with me,he's tethered to me- so he
doesn't run around.
So he doesn't run around.
So that's part of the rest thatwe have him on is limiting his
access and movement.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
Jamie, go ahead.
Speaker 6 (26:04):
Good morning
everybody.
So last week I was having achat about how rainy it was here
.
It stopped raining on Wednesdayand since then the weather's
just been completely disgustingand now it's really hot and, of
(26:25):
course, all the mud that formedfrom all the rain is really
stinky.
The dogs and I are hiding inthe bedroom with the air
conditioning and River is spreadout, taking half of a king-size
bed and enjoying that.
Thank you very much.
But his story this week issometime in the last week he's
(26:48):
managed to get some wheat-basedproduct and, being the petty mix
that he is, he's allergic towheat and now he looks like he's
been eaten by a mob of moths.
Oh no, yeah, poor dog.
He's all patchy and lumpy andhis hair's falling out, but at
(27:12):
least it's summer and he's notgoing to freeze.
So I spend a bit of time makingsure he doesn't chew himself
raw, but while he's sleeping onthe bed he's not chewing, which
is that's fine.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
Oh, it's the worst
when dogs are itchy.
Speaker 6 (27:31):
Yes, yeah, yeah, I've
spoken.
Yes, I'm speaking about you andyour itches and no, you're not
allowed to chew, as he rolledover and immediately tried to
chew his bum, but with all themud we've got here Tennessee.
The big, white, shaggy wolfymix that she is loves playing in
(27:53):
the mud, and then she comes upand her white face is black and
her white legs black to theelbows and she wants a cuddle,
of course.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
Of course, yes, of
course.
Speaker 6 (28:07):
Because the rain
stopped, the creeks have dropped
so that they're safe to swim inagain now.
Last week they were way toofast and dangerous dangerous and
this week they're just runningfast.
So they've been going for swimsand now we can wash her face
off and she.
It means that she's able to getcuddles when she needs them,
(28:27):
rather than being shoved away inhorror.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
Yeah, and cozy's just
good oh good, do you remember
how muddy uh bernoulli would getwith beaker in the summer?
Uh, bernoulli, yeah.
And then he was just a littlelove bug because he was a puppy
and he didn't know that he was aslimy, disgusting guy and he
(28:51):
was so cute.
It was really hard, but like hewould be wet and dirty and I,
we were just disgustingly muddyfor the entire month in the
summer.
Do you remember that, chris?
Speaker 3 (29:03):
I do, and being able
to put him in the little play
pool and rinse them off was alot of fun and that allowed him
to get a little bit used towater, because Beaker showed him
the ropes and Bunsen's like I'mnot ever stepping foot in that
ever no did benelli get betterwith his swimming?
Speaker 6 (29:25):
no, no, he's terrible
is it that he's trying to swim
vertically?
Speaker 2 (29:30):
I think he's just not
built to swim like he's awful.
Speaker 6 (29:34):
He's just awful at it
tennessee, when she started,
was trying to swim vertically,so she was basically standing on
the bottom of the pool flailingher front legs, yeah, and not
getting anywhere.
But if you went in with her andthen lifted her belly up, just
put your hand under her bellyand lifted her belly up, she
(29:56):
eventually got the idea that herback legs work as well.
Speaker 2 (29:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (30:00):
And now she powers
through the water.
Speaker 2 (30:04):
We'll have to see
Jamie.
Speaker 3 (30:06):
He does okay with his
life jacket on because it makes
him float a bit, but yeah, still, he's bad, bad at swimming
what we did is we have thecreek and the like beaker slough
which is probably filled withdisgusting leeches or something
disgusting I don't even want toknow what's in that, um, and he
was going in that and then I hadto go in and rescue him like
(30:28):
all the way up to my waist andmy jeans, and then I had to haul
him out of the pond at Wagglesand then we were going to take
him with us dock diving to getused to the bigger pool and then
at that point it was June andthen Bunsen had his head atrophy
and then it just was a bit of a, and then the summer, then we
(30:48):
were in August and that's whenwe were doing a lot of our dock
diving with Beaker and thenBunsen got so sick and then that
just took out any otherfuntivities with Beaker and like
Bernoulli, because we were sofocused on Bunsen.
Speaker 6 (31:03):
Yeah, yeah, no, I
completely understand.
Yeah, I would have thought withhis big fuzzy bum he would have
, it would float a bit better.
Speaker 2 (31:12):
No, is there
Berniceernice or they're?
I think they're, just they're.
The way their body isproportioned is very top heavy,
so yeah, it makes it tough forthem to swim because they were.
They're carting dogs with bigfronts and more athletic back
ends, as opposed to a new fee, which is more proportional, but
(31:34):
new fees, a big dog that canswim really well.
All right, thanks, jamie thankyou okay, take care, we'll go to
cottage.
Thanks for waiting.
Cottage oven.
Speaker 5 (31:44):
Hello how you doing
I'm, yeah, my name is rob.
I'm down here in the daytonabeach, florida area.
I've been.
I've talked on here a couple oftimes.
Yeah, anyway, you were talkingabout the neon and the moose.
Back when I was 10, we were inthe process of moving from one
(32:05):
part of New Jersey down to theshore, because my dad had just
bought a marina and so he wouldbe driving back and forth and so
we'd be waiting for him to comehome, and at one time he was a
little bit late and the car thathe was driving was his MG
(32:30):
Midget, tiny two-person sportscar.
Speaker 2 (32:32):
Oh man.
Speaker 5 (32:35):
And the drive from
the shore back to where we had
been was through the PineBarrens and he encountered a
deer.
Now, they're nowhere near thesize of a moose, now they're
nowhere near the size of a moose, but the MG midget is nowhere
(32:57):
near the size of a full deer inthat area.
Oh no, and he went.
We had to go by.
I wasn't there, we were at homewaiting for him, but he went
under the deer.
It was like a low bridge, hesaid, and he was fine.
(33:19):
The deer hobbled off and theonly damage to the car was a
hoof print on the right rearwheel tail light and the front
left headlight.
Oh man, and when he wasmentioning the neon coming up
(33:40):
all of a sudden, approaching themoose like that, it just
reminded me of that one, andthat's definitely a different
story.
Not often you get an MG midgetgoing under a deer bridge.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
Whenever there's a
collision with a big animal, if
you can walk away from it, yeahyeah and especially since this
was just barely a collision itwas.
That's why I say more of anencounter yeah, I'm glad
everybody survived right couldhave been worse oh, it could
(34:12):
have been much, much worse, butthat was.
Speaker 5 (34:15):
That's definitely one
for the books, yeah, for sure.
That's all I just wanted torelate that.
Just interesting contrast andbut also similarity there.
So I appreciate it and glad tohear everything's going well up
there and keep resting, bunsen, and maybe someday you'll get
that new fee I don't know.
Speaker 2 (34:42):
Marla says I should
get a roddy yeah, marla says we
should get a roddy no, she said,I should get a roddy oh, if you
get a roddy, I get a new feethey are.
Speaker 5 (34:53):
They are amazing and
they're big babies.
Speaker 3 (34:58):
I just love Chesney.
Chesney is adorable and I loveKuno.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
Yeah, absolutely
Chesney and Kuno and Chesney
were.
Kuno was an amazing dog, chesney is an amazing dog.
Yeah, I'm goofball slightlyjealous that Bernoulli is
cuddling up to.
Chesney is an amazing dog.
Yeah, I'm goofball slightlyjealous that Bernoulli is
cuddling up to Chesney.
But then he's a gray beardedold fart like myself.
(35:22):
Probably best somebody younger.
Speaker 5 (35:26):
Although it does say
a lot also about how good Marla
is about the training.
Speaker 2 (35:32):
Oh yeah, marla's an
amazing dog.
Speaker 5 (35:33):
She's doing that
herself, yeah, and she's doing
that herself, yeah, and she'sjust absolutely remarkable.
Speaker 2 (35:39):
Yeah, marla is a.
Marla is a very cool lady, amazing dog trainer.
Yeah, that's right.
I just want to give a shout outto somebody on Instagram.
That's Mary B Deco.
Mary B D Kovic, you have astory about your black rescue
cat.
If you want to type that up,I'll read it for sure, but
(36:03):
you're on live so you can'tunfortunately can't join the
live.
But if you type it up, I'llkeep watching the Instagram
comments for that to come up andI'll read your story.
And then Ice Goddess is askingon Instagram if the next puppies
we'll get will be a Rottweilerand a Newfie.
I don't know.
I think we're pretty good withthree right now.
We joke about getting anotherone, but we want to make sure
(36:23):
Bunsen's okay.
We want to not have a puppywhile he is healing and needs
more of our attention.
It probably wouldn't be fair tohim.
Speaker 3 (36:32):
No, absolutely not.
If things were different, likethere was some Bernese Mountain
Dogs that I sent some picturesto Jason and I'm like, hey, but
then we found out about Bunsenand no, absolutely not.
It's already enough work tohave the three dogs.
Speaker 2 (36:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (36:50):
And Bunsen.
Speaker 2 (36:51):
Bernoulli was such a
joyful puppy, though, chris, I
know we could have anotherjoyful puppy he was, so I can't
Speaker 5 (36:57):
it's too much.
It's too much, I know.
Yeah, you can honestly say youhave a three dog night yeah,
that we can very good very good, but I'm
Speaker 3 (37:08):
chasing that sound
effects but he's always slow on
oh I am slow.
Speaker 2 (37:11):
I am slow that's
because they're on another,
they're in another.
Okay, I've lost it, whatever,yeah.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
But with the
temperatures you guys are
getting, I don't think threedogs is enough, you need five.
Speaker 2 (37:25):
Yeah, those fuzzy
dogs do better in the winter.
For sure Beaker was shiveringtoday.
I've never seen her shiver, soit was no, that's not true.
She shivered a couple weeks agowhen I took her out.
Yeah, like I think it was toocold.
She wasn't.
Didn't look like her paws werebugging her.
But the next time she goes outI'm gonna put her snow pants on.
She is so much more comfortablein her snow pants and you lose
(37:49):
a lot of.
I think dogs lose a lot of heatthrough their feet, just like
we would through our hands andour feet as well.
So, and a lot.
Speaker 3 (37:55):
Just keep the heat
closer to her body okay yeah
thank you, kathy's been waitinghi, kathy a couple things.
Speaker 8 (38:02):
First, I want to
thank everybody for the support
I've had the last couple weeks, with both angel and my brother
crossing the rainbow bridgewithin two days of each other,
and I really appreciate it.
Great community, that's all Ican say.
The second thing is tonight onthe NBC National News in the US
(38:27):
there was a story about a manwho uses his infrared drone to
find lost dogs oh, I saw that oh, I saw that.
Yeah, so tell us more that isamazing and it was a bernie's
mountain dog that they werefeaturing a two-year-old that
(38:49):
had been lost for did they say10 days or?
Speaker 2 (38:52):
Whoa.
Speaker 8 (38:54):
And the place where
this man works out of is where
Jen Golbeck grew up.
Speaker 2 (39:01):
No way.
Speaker 8 (39:02):
And I taught high
school about 15 miles from there
.
Speaker 2 (39:05):
Oh, wow.
Speaker 8 (39:07):
So it's a very rural
area, and so for him to be able
to find those animals, I justthink it's a fantastic tool.
Speaker 2 (39:16):
Yeah, that's amazing.
The drone technology has likemy drone is.
How many years old is my drone?
Chris, three years.
Three years old.
Speaker 3 (39:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (39:28):
Yeah, so I do sneak a
peek.
I don't tell Chris this, but Ido sneak a peek at the drones
when I go into Best Buy.
Peek I don't tell chris this, but I do sneak a peek at the
drones when I go into best buy.
And the technology on a similarprice drone to what I paid
three years ago is bananas likethe.
I didn't see one with aninfrared camera, though.
That's unique, so that's prettycool that is pretty cool.
Speaker 8 (39:49):
And then one more
thing about adding dogs.
I don't know if you've listenedto the last podcast from jen
gobek and ingo no jen was gonefor at least two weeks, maybe
longer, in ukraine taking photosand now she?
Then she was home for a weekand ingo visited his parents in
(40:12):
germany.
And here's what she said mydogs are feral.
Oh, she had gone to westminsteryeah to watch rally and all of
that, and she came home sayingmy dogs have got to go through
training, they're feral, and Iimagine with six, three of whom
(40:33):
are puppies of varying ages, Ican only imagine what kind of
chaos goes on with one personthere and a whole ocean that
they like to swim in.
Speaker 2 (40:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (40:45):
Chris, I don't know.
I don't know about adding dogs.
Speaker 2 (40:49):
Not right now.
Definitely not right now, butmaybe in the future see, it's
all relative though, becauseBernoulli is still a baby, but
we've worked hard to train himand he's like at the highest
level.
In red deer for a pet dog likethat, you can pass a level.
And then we we see Chesney withMarla and we're like, oh my God
(41:12):
, bernoulli's a meathead Like he, like Chesney is so smart.
Marla has done such amazingwork with Chesney.
But it's all relative, right,cause that's not Bernoulli's job
and we didn't put that kind ofwork in.
But we're just like, we'rereally happy Bernoulli can hold
a five, five minute down wow,he's a good dog.
(41:34):
And then Chesney can grab herown poop bag and take it to the
garbage and we're like, oh mygod, bernoulli's kind of stupid.
Speaker 8 (41:46):
I was a little
worried that on one of the posts
this week where Bernoulli'sthinking maybe, or somebody said
, maybe, bunsen, that maybeChesney could help Bernoulli's
thinking maybe, or somebody said, maybe, bunsen, that maybe
Chesney could help Bernoullilearn to open doors, chesney's
also learning to open therefrigerator.
I'm not sure you want that.
Speaker 2 (42:03):
No no.
Speaker 3 (42:04):
No, that's so cute
that she's doing that.
But then I also saw that Jenposted that the dogs had an
escape hole and they went toWayne's the steak neighbor.
Oh, my God, and they went toWayne's the steak neighbor.
Oh my God, yeah, they went tothe steak neighbor's house and
that's something that Venkalways liked to do, right, so
that made me think of her.
But I want to say Guacoman wenttoo, and with the girls.
Speaker 8 (42:31):
Yes, more than that.
She didn't even realizeGuacoman was outside.
That's how crazy it is at herhouse.
And the next thing she knew thelittle dogs were.
The puppies were barking andbarking and as soon as she let
them out, they raced to StakeNeighbors because they had seen
him go over there.
Speaker 3 (42:51):
Oh, okay.
Speaker 8 (42:52):
But she hadn't seen
it.
Oh no, and then Chief Brody wasin the house.
Speaker 3 (42:54):
Otherwise he would
have gone.
Hey, but she hadn't seen it.
Oh no, and then Chief Brody wasin the house, couldn't?
Otherwise he would have gone toRemy.
Exactly, All six of them wouldhave been over there, yes.
Speaker 8 (43:05):
Yeah, so anyway, yeah
, three dogs and a cat, I think
that's a good number, it's a lot.
Speaker 3 (43:14):
You all's a good
number.
It's a lot.
Speaker 8 (43:16):
You all have a good
week.
Speaker 3 (43:19):
You too.
Thanks, kathy, thank you.
Speaker 8 (43:21):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (43:23):
Three cats, one dog
and two grandchildren make this
house very interesting.
Once a week Wouldn't mess itfor the world.
Speaker 3 (43:33):
No.
Speaker 2 (43:34):
Yeah, it's lovable,
chaos, chaos.
I'm just trying to read thisstory from mary chris.
You typed it up maybe there's amiddle section missing, mary.
All I see is after they left,my roommate told me the cat was
jumping.
I don't see the middle part ofthat story in chat, otherwise I
would read it and this is justmaybe incomplete.
I'm so sorry, I see you'vetyped.
(43:55):
After they left, my roommatetold me the cat was jumping on
her belly harder and woke her up, probably because the cat did
something heroic, but I'm justmissing the front part there.
Sorry, chris, go ahead.
Speaker 3 (44:07):
I was just going to
talk a little bit about Bark and
BeyondSupplycom.
Speaker 2 (44:10):
Yeah, go ahead, and
then we'll go to Paula.
Speaker 3 (44:13):
Yeah, kristen, put in
the chat.
Don't forget that they havejoint supplements for dogs.
When we were talking aboutarthritis and we definitely use
joint supplements when wethought Bunsen had arthritis and
we've used them and the dogsjust love those treats.
They just are like Whoa.
This is delicious andnutritious.
Speaker 2 (44:36):
And of course they've
got that love 15 coupon code to
save 15%.
I think, it's over tomorrownight.
So check outBarkingBeyondSupplycom if you
want to get some stuff.
They've got good shipping rates, like if you're an American
within the States.
We have heard that the shippingrates are.
They're really good within theshape and within the States.
Okay, we'll go to Paula andthen I'll try to piece together
(44:56):
that story.
Somebody's typing Paula goahead.
Speaker 7 (45:03):
Hi, how's everybody
doing tonight?
Good, hopefully you're well.
I'm good.
Thanks, I just want to say Ihad seven Yorkies.
I was the breeder gone bad.
I had the grandmother, themother and father.
No, you're laughing, this is atrue story.
I didn't expect the grandmother, but the owner went to England
and she didn't want to take thedog.
So I took her and then we hadone pup and then we thought, oh,
they're so cute, but the vetswait till the bitch is in heat
(45:25):
and then you can fix her.
The dog who didn't know what todo the first round, the husband
did it in the second round, ina snowstorm, with about 22
inches of snow in February.
So they were a unit under thedeck, if you did not get my
drift, and we ended up withthree oops puppies.
So then we had seven.
So what are we going to do?
My husband's like you're goingto sell them.
(45:45):
I'm like no, and it's like noone's going to take good care of
my dogs like I did.
So we didn't sell them.
We kept the whole brood and thelooks that we got from people.
When I walked dogs.
I used to walk like six at atime, because we had another one
, so the cars would almost runoff the road.
It was funny.
And then at the time we used togo to the Cape and I live in
(46:07):
Connecticut and we would gothrough the toll booth, which
they don't have anymore.
But we went to the toll boothand the gives us a look and he
goes.
Lady, he goes.
How many dogs are you having acar anyway?
Because we had some in cratessomewhere on my lap.
It was nuts.
But let me just tell you theywere little, they were Yorkshire
Terriers, that's how my nameYorkie seven little dogs, big
dogs, they're all the same, butbig dogs, I know, are bigger.
(46:29):
But yes, they are a lot of work.
But you basically do the samething.
You have a routine.
They eat at the same time, theygo out at the same time and
then the vet bills can get nuts.
The only bad thing is and I canunderstand what you're saying
when they get older and you wantto pay attention to Bunsen,
because that's the best thingright now for the big bear and I
love him so much.
I'm glad to hear he's better.
(46:49):
But you know, when they getolder they start to die and
sometimes we lost the mother andone of the sons.
We don't even know whathappened.
I think he just had, like, hisheart expired and he just died.
It was weird and he was youngand he just passed away.
So we lost two in two weeks andso when they get older it's
sadder because you're losingmore at the same time, kind of
(47:10):
thing.
Yeah they're all the same age.
Yeah, because they're all thesame age and some lasted longer
and some didn't.
But it was heartbreakingbecause you just loved them so
much.
But then when they got older itwas tough on the vet bill, so
that's the only drawback that wehad, and back then I don't even
think they had doggy insuranceor it was just starting.
But, and, Donna Craig, yes, Iknow what you mean about dog
(47:32):
psychiatrist or whatever, orpsychic, because I went to one
free at a Whole Foods and shenailed my dog Because I thought
that our dog was not feelingwell one of my Yorkies because
she used to what they callsyncope.
She was like she would cough andthen pass out, Her lips would
turn blue and then 10 secondslater she'd pop up like nothing
(47:55):
happened.
So it was like she passed awayfor a little bit.
It was weird, but it was justher heart condition and
everything but.
Um, I wanted to know if the dogwas in pain.
But she's like no, your dogwill be fine, but she's playing
chicken in the road with you andshe doesn't want to leave you
and you don't want to leave her.
And she was dead.
Right because when not to makea pun there, but on the way home
(48:16):
from one of the vets that wewere going to because she had
seen a cardiologist.
She died in the backseat of thecar on the way home and we were
putting her to sleep thatafternoon and so she beat me to
the punch.
So it was like it was sad, butit was weird how this lady knew
a lot about the dogs and one ofthe dogs was really afraid of my
(48:36):
husband.
I think that might have been, Idon't know if that was.
Speaker 3 (48:38):
Olive at the time.
It could have been.
It was Olive.
Olive was like no, dave, no,thank you.
Speaker 7 (48:41):
Yeah, she didn't like
men.
And then I put this dog, likewhy isn't this dog like my nice
husband, because he's the nicestguy in the world?
And then the psychic lady goesshe had some really bad trauma
as a puppy.
She doesn't want to tell me,because she said the dog didn't
want to tell her and it wasalways that way and it was like
she was like a cat.
She was always on her terms formy husband, but near the end
(49:04):
she got, she warmed up better, but she never liked men.
She liked women, but she didn'tlike men.
Especially, my husband wore adark T-shirt, so we just wonder
if there was some happening thatshe had that, but anyway.
So I just wanted to say sevendogs.
You think that's crazy, but bigdogs are definitely a lot more
to handle than little ones.
But they, they had theirproblems too.
They would fight each otherbecause they didn't know they
(49:26):
were brother, father and son orwhatever.
And they the doorbell ringingand they'd start a tassel and I
was like, oh my gosh, but anyway, so stay with three for now and
see how it goes.
But I was thinking of you whenI saw Westminster Dog Show,
because I'm looking and I'mgoing, those new fees and oh,
the beautiful way.
They're all so impeccablygroomed and everything.
(49:48):
So it was fun.
Speaker 3 (49:49):
Yeah, they probably
did something with the drool
they gave them anti-druelmedication.
Probably did something with thedrool.
Speaker 7 (49:55):
They gave them
anti-druel medication.
Oh, they do.
No, you, chris, I kid you not.
I've been to dog shows and I'vebeen in the back room where
they're grooming and stuff.
When they have them on thetables and they're constantly
got the drool towel, it's almosta waiter with the napkin when
they pour the wine.
Take the drip, drip.
That's so gross.
Speaker 2 (50:11):
They do it is.
It's gross, but it's like ado-rag.
Speaker 7 (50:14):
It really is.
It's amazing, but they do.
They have special whitening forthe fur.
You watch a dog show and it'squite a process.
I think you almost have to goto grooming school to know what
to do and I had forgotten it wason.
So I was watching it on replayon demand this morning and
(50:36):
Trixie posted a picture, was allof a sudden perplexed and
looked up and was watching theshow for a good 20 minutes In
fact they were doing the houndgroup and I said, oh, there goes
, Ginger, goes, Ginger thebeagle.
So we were funny laughingbecause she was really watching
the beagle section.
So it was cute.
So but anyway, listen, have agood week and thank you for all
the nice Valentine stuff, because that just cheered
everybody's week up and it wasreally cute and I really enjoyed
(50:58):
it.
So thanks again and hopeeverybody has a great week.
Speaker 2 (51:02):
Thanks, Paula.
Speaker 3 (51:04):
Thanks.
Speaker 2 (51:04):
Paula, yeah, as we
mentioned, the format of the
Science Podcast is going to be alittle different this season.
We're foregoing the familysection because we do talk a lot
about what's going on with thepets anyways, and I do make that
as an episode that's on thepodcast feed.
It keeps the main show a littletighter and shorter and then
(51:26):
not every episode will have aninterview with a scientist.
It's getting harder for me tosource scientists and with how
busy I am, that's always astress for me trying to organize
interviews.
So just hopefully that thatsetup's a little different.
It just means some of theepisodes will be a little longer
and some of the episodes willbe a little shorter.
This last one was a shorterepisode two.
(51:49):
We talked about that asteroidcoming at us and then also
basically they were looking at aintervention technique for
child animal harm.
So these are kids that are atrisk or have harmed animals and
how to mitigate that.
Instead of just giving up onthese kids, can you use
different types of education andintervention techniques to stop
(52:12):
that from happening again?
And it's a really good, heartwarming study that we broke
down, which is a good end tosomething that's very sad.
Okay, we'll talk next week andwe're going to be talking.
We have our live back and forthwith the Paw Pack tomorrow
night, so we'll see any of thePaw Pack.
That's our Patreon group.
We do a live every Sunday withthem for about an hour, which is
(52:35):
fun, so we'll see, yeah, andthey become our friends.
Yeah, it's very cool.
Speaker 3 (52:40):
It's very cool.
We get to hear their joys andtalk to them about everything
and it's just really cool howthe world is so large but like
we can make it a smaller byusing technology and zoom or
stream, yard or circle orwhatever platform we're using.
Speaker 2 (52:59):
we're definitely able
to connect with people yeah, if
you check our website, there'sa link for the paw pack and
that's just a way.
You love what we do, you cansupport us.
There's different tiers ofsupport.
It's like patreon and that's atyour own discretion to join or
not, and with that I think we'llsign out.
Thanks for coming tonight andwe'll see you all next week.
