Speaker 1 (00:00):
So we broke the.
We broke that we were going tohave weeds on this, uh, on this
podcast, which we did, and wehave weeds now in both locations
, uh.
What else did we break?
We broke the weed fest.
I think we talked about that Umand uh.
We broke that we're going tohave a location in Duluth, which
(00:23):
we do, and when you change yourname.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
So what's next?
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (00:28):
what's next For 2035.
Yeah, yes, we're kind of incruise control.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
I think this year and
just kind of riding it out.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
No, I'm kidding, I'm
kidding, we're not doing that at
all.
You're just going to let it sinkin.
We're going to start doing somelimited self-distribution
through Kentucky and neighboringstates.
We're also going to dodirect-to-consumer.
So if you're a whiskey fan,we'll be available to be
purchased in 41 states, which isvery exciting.
(01:06):
What?
Yeah, I know, that's right,that's a big deal.
So everybody who's like, oh, Ilove whiskey beef, I wish I
could get it in my hometown, well, you're not going to get it
in your liquor store orwhatever, but you will be able
to order and we'll be able tosend it to you.
So we're, going to do a bunch ofreally super special releases.
This year we're going to submitall of the awards and
(01:28):
competitions and see whathappens, but sometimes we'll put
the thing out before weactually submit it to the award,
which I know that sounds kindof backwards, but whatever,
that's what we do.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
You know the awards
aren't cool, but our fan base
already knows good whiskey andso when you go there you might
have won an award, but by thetime you're there that bourbon's
gone, because it's all gone, and there's award winners every
(02:02):
day in your barrels, I mean it'sjust like our fans might have a
bottle on their shelf andthey're like whoa, this bottle?
Speaker 1 (02:10):
I bought this one's
platinum and I don't know.
It's inber somewhere, you knowand then that's cool.
If they think that's cool, Imean at the end of the day it's
like do you like the whiskey ordo you not like the whiskey?
And that's what we really don't.
That's, that's.
The biggest award we get iswhen somebody says we like your
whiskey.
And I know that sounds a littlebit cheesy, but it's true.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
Yeah well, I don't
think that sounds cheesy.
I just think the fact that thesuccess of Whiskey Thief and
what you've done there is youknow the whole setup going there
, being able to pick a barrel, taste the barrels taste through,
(02:57):
but then it's not over.
Then it's like you could bethere, or you know, or any
number.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
By the way, this is
an Elijah Craig.
I don't even know which one itis.
It is so good, it's likevanilla.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
It's on the rocks, on
one big rock, on one big rock
it is so delicious.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
Tiny, as you know,
I'm a bourbon nerd, oh yeah you
are?
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Yes, yeah, I am.
It's like just to know, walter,is that just like when we were
at the Pandentist Club?
You just knew everything aboutit.
It was just the coolest thinggoing through the different
things.
And to be at that, where you'reat tonight, has to be so
fantastic that I can't.
(03:50):
You know it's something like Iknow you, it's just you're.
I feel the same feelings whenyou get invited to this or you
get invited to that and you'rethere and it's just a wonderful
time.
Yeah, so that.
So that is cool.
So you're shipping.
Now You're going to be able toship.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
We're going to yes
very soon.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
So are you renting a
place just to ship from A?
What Are you going to ship fromthe back office?
Is everything going to come outof there?
Yes, okay.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
No, we'll figure it
out.
I mean, it's going to be aprocess, but we're good, we got
the right partners in place.
But you know, it's about like,if you're a fan of Whiskey Thief
and you want, and we put outspecial releases all the time,
nobody really knows, because youcan only buy it at the, at the
distillery, but we will uh putit out and uh, you'll be, you
(04:50):
will be able to buy it, yeah, and that's a cool thing barrel
by barrel.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
Yeah, exactly, um, so
are you, did you guys?
I'm just asking, I don't know, are you on bourbon outfitters or
anything like that, or anyother?
Speaker 1 (05:04):
no, okay, that's just
come to whiskey thief and buy
it, and then it'll arrive atyour house oh okay, just whiskey
theater, just the website.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
All right, yeah, yeah
.
So now I now every time I gotto give out the, the web address
all the time where you can getit, where you can purchase, so I
can do that once you start thatup we'll be relaunching our
website, uh, with moreinformation, stuff, whatever.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
and then, uh, yeah,
just everybody, stay tuned.
The other thing this is just ustalking, right?
Uh-huh, just us, it's us, yeah,uh.
The other thing is you know, you know about the guild, right,
yeah?
I mean yeah.
So the Guild is going to be areally special thing for people
(05:50):
who want to do it.
I mean, yeah, there are bottleclubs.
Everybody's got a bottle cluband I guess we're going to have
one too, but the Guild is goingto be the not bottle club bottle
club.
So I think it's going to bereally cool.
More to come on that.
I will drop all the headlineshere, because this is what I do.
(06:11):
I come here and I tell you guysall the inside scoop.
So stay tuned for the guild.
If you haven't, well, I don'teven know what to tell you.
I don't even know how to tellyou to become part of the guild,
but it'll be out there soon.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
Perfect.
Well, you know we'll be tryingto become part of the guild once
we know how.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
There we go.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
There we go.
Yeah, I mean, you've always gotsomething going.
What about events for this year?
Are you doing any?
Speaker 1 (06:45):
So we're going to do
Wiffy Feet Fest in October
instead of November, so it's notquite so cold.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
Yeah, everything
doesn't freeze to death.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
It was a little cold,
right you agree?
Speaker 2 (06:55):
Well, I don't think
it was too bad for the people
around the fire, but the bandprobably was just.
They were probably a littlecold.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
By the time you got
to the third band.
It was pretty cold, yep, butbourbon helps with that.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
Yes, it did Most
people.
It was warm enough.
While the bulk of the crowd wasthere, the diehard fans stuck
around and the bourbon kept themwarm, exactly, but that's good
to move it up in mid-lateOctober, yeah and we'll be at
(07:34):
the bourbon festival and we'llbe doing all the normal stuff
and there might be a couplesurprises yeah, because I always
thought the perfect thing wouldbe a barbecue.
I mean, smoke some rib, you know, have some ribs smoking and all
.
I mean you already got the thetruck for all the, you know the
(07:55):
food truck for all the fixingeverything.
You just bring out some andjust that's kind of a good idea.
Actually, I like thatespecially in kentucky, don't
think?
I think the way you pull peopleout there.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
I like that.
All right.
So yeah, the whiskey deepbarbecue put that down.
We don't know the date yet, butWow, yeah, that.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
But I mean that just
for me is a no brainer.
That just yeah, that's a goodidea.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
All right.
So many things, so, and you andI mean, have you been?
Just have you done anythingpersonal, gone anyplace?
Or has it just been all whiskeythief?
We had Christmas and then wehad New Year's Eve and then so
(08:47):
I'm joking, because in Kentuckywe've had a lot of snow, which
is not a normal thing, oh yeah, and so we're supposed to get
dumped on tonight.
Actually, I'm looking outsideright now but no, nothing yet.
But we're supposed to getdumped on tonight like six
inches.
We had a couple inches today, which was unexpected, and so my
(09:09):
kids have been on like permanentvacation pretty much since late
December and it sucks.
Frankly, yeah, it's rough.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
Yeah, my grandkids,
my grandkids have basically my
wife watches them.
Yeah, my grandkids, mygrandkids have basically my wife
watches them, and it's always afour.
It was Monday and thenPresident's Day, she was on, and
then the next day was, you know, today.
Then, all of a sudden, it wasno school because it was too
cold.
I'm like, and I'm fromWisconsin, so it wasn't too cold
(09:40):
, we went to school when it was18 degrees.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
Well, last week they
were off school because there
was too much flu, so there aretoo many people who had the flu.
So therefore, they canceledschool and it didn't help me.
I got it.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
No, yeah, so yeah,
yeah, the flu.
And then you guys have beenlike like up by us in Ohio, like
in the Canton area.
We're always getting an inchand I'm just watching it go
through Louisville and your area.
It's all staying south of usand you guys are just getting
blasted.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
We're getting blasted
.
Then we had flooding.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
We had lots of rain
last week, I would feel like you
were trying to go someplace toget away, but I suppose you have
kids, oh yeah right, you can'treally.
You've got to go when everybodyelse goes, and that's not
always the best right.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
Exactly.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
Well, that's what's
going on, but you know, by like
St Patrick's Day, we're going tobe reopening the farm.
Things will be warm again, thespring will be awesome.
We'll be ready to go.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
We're back in it,
Right now you can go there on
the farm.
Can you go to the distillerytoo?
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Yeah, Probably
tomorrow we won't be open
because of the snow.
The snow we're anticipatingtonight?
Apparently at 7 am it's goingto start snowing for like 20
hours, but I mean, you got tolet everybody know that this is
(11:17):
just the road.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
The road on the farm
to get to the distillery has to
be plowed.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
So people are to be
in.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
Well, not only
challenging.
You're in Kentucky, so it's notlike Kentucky gets a ton of
snow so the roads to get to theplace aren't plowed, so there's,
you know, then you've got toplow, yeah, so when there's a
lot of weather.
But you guys are always open ifweather permits, pretty much as
far as.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
Right and the mobile
chasing room is almost always
open.
You can still do the fivebarrels thieving, fill a bottle,
do the whole thing right thereand yeah, the one at Newloo.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
How's that?
Speaker 1 (12:01):
Wally, wally, dan,
right there from Dan's Crossing
Monks Road.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
Monks Road.
Yeah yeah, log log still.
Speaker 1 (12:10):
Log still exactly
right.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
Yes, yeah, if you see
him, tell him.
I said hi, but seriously, thetasting room now that seems to
be that's got to be catching onat this point, right?
Oh, absolutely.
When it gets cold, that'susually when the tasting rooms
fill up.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
We're having some
awesome music there.
I should go outside.
I'm going to go outside, okay,it's better, okay, much better
what better?
Okay, oh, much better what uh?
But yeah, we, uh, we have somelive music down there and it's,
you know, it's easy, you don'thave to drive out all the way
out to franklin county and it's,uh, good stuff.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
So terry dance says
hi, so he's not, he's watching
good Good, good, good, yeah.
So that, yeah, we loved thetime we stopped in when you at
the time you weren't in town, but we stopped by and we
actually met Mark Carter andChristy Atkinson there and they
(13:15):
had just gotten the news thatold Carter was Mark's and they
could start doing that again, that Old Carter was Mark's, and
they could start running anddoing that again.
So we actually met for morelike a brunch drink kind of
thing.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
That's cool.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
They tasted through
the whole tasting and Mark loved
it and it was kind of cool.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
That's cool, and I'm
a big fan of Mark Carter Anybody
who loves his if you could getyour hands on old Carter.
It's something I'm a fan of,that's for sure down with my
fanboy thing, because I'm a fanof what they do, for sure yes,
there's no doubt he's anotherperson.
(13:59):
I can't.
There's so much to learn fromhim, all these people.
I learn so much to learn fromhim, All these people.
I just I learned so much when Icome and do this stuff and you
know, Mark Hart is one of thoseguys that I learned something
every time I hang out with him.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
Yeah, so it's really
they came out and hung out at
the, at the, the the festival, what, what, what?
The whiskey fest yeah, whiskeyfest, yeah, that's yeah.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
At the festival
Whiskey Teen Fest.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
Yeah, whiskey Teen
Fest.
Yeah, they were there with usand they both liked it.
I mean, you're making goodstuff, there's no doubt about it
.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
I think I told them
they couldn't leave.
You're not leaving, don't lookat that.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
Yeah, Mark had an
excuse.
He had Christy there andChristy was getting cold.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
But they didn't leave
.
No, I told them they couldn't.
They did they stayed a while.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
Yes, they did, but
all right.
So you got a lot of big stuffhappening coming up.
People got to check it out.
Uh, we're just gonna keep uhfilling everybody in and
screaming at the top of ourlungs about it.
Uh, I hope this year everybodyit.
(15:14):
We announced you, you announcedthe weeded.
That's there.
So pretty much anytime you goin there there's one barrel of
wheat.
That's right, and I mean theone I have is just an absolute.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
I mean I've never
gotten it, but it's a chili, so
interesting, like it's reallyinteresting.
I mean, we've opened thosebarrels and I'm like what was
going on Because I wasn't therewhen they did them and I'm like
what is going on with thesewheats?
They're crazy.
They're so good, they're soweird, and sometimes I love them
(15:48):
and sometimes I hate them, butthey're like it's like a vanilla
bomb.
It's really bizarre.
It's actually really bizarre.
But if you want whiskey thattastes like no other whiskey
you've ever had, that's whatyou're going to get with the
wheat.
Now the bourbon mash bills aremore traditional bourbon kind of
(16:13):
bourbon-tasting bourbon.
Yeah, it tastes like bourbon, but they're really good and a
lot of times, you know, sometimes our higher proof stuff
tastes like higher proof stuff, but sometimes, sometimes tiny,
our higher proof stuff tasteslower proof that you what you
would think.
(16:33):
So you're drinking something133 proof and you're like what
are you kidding me?
That does not seem like itwould be that high, and so
that's something that is a nicesurprise and something we do
pretty well.
And then we always have the ryeat the end to kind of close off
the experience.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
I think it's
perfectly proportionate for what
the markets are.
Yeah, I will tell you theweeded on this one.
I actually get cherry pie, cherry pie tell you, the weeded
um, on this one I actually getcherry pie and I don't.
Speaker 1 (17:10):
That is not a
standard wheat flavor, is it?
Cherry pie is not.
But our weeds are weird, I'mgonna tell you I, even if you're
coming to expect maker's markor pappy van winkle, you're not
gonna get that.
Our weeds are a little weird, but they're good who wants.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
If I want pappy Van
Winkle or Weller, I'll go buy
Weller.
Cheers to that.
I mean, that's just honestlythe uniqueness of what you do
there.
And it's pot-stilled and youput it out and then everybody,
you got it.
Their barrel pick program isfantastic and you know, talk a
little bit.
(17:44):
It's the best kept secret.
Really, I think you got to keepit a secret because if it got
out you'd run out of barrels.
Tell anybody, don't tellanybody, I won't tell nobody.
Okay, it's just us.
I love it All right.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
Even though I have,
this isn't a podcast, right,
we're just talking.
Yeah, just talking.
I thought we were just having acall.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
Yeah, that's I
scheduled.
I was just scheduling a call.
Speaker 1 (18:09):
Perfect, perfect,
excellent, good, excellent.
That's what I was hoping for.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
Yeah, all right, all
right so, but anyways, this is
Scott, you're the best.
We're fans, we love you guys, and you've done a lot for us and
we really appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
So we're better
because you're here Well, thank
you and I'm better becauseyou're here, so it works out
pretty well.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
It only made sense
because we came there so much.
We were there all the time.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
I swear to god, uh,
but anyway we were the first
post you ever made that hit amillion views or whatever.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
Yes, you were it was.
It's so funny because itstarted out I did it and it was
me, it, it was a post of me,right.
And then I was like freaked outI never had a viral post or
whatever and it kind of pushedit.
But then we did the one withHannah.
I think it's still my numberone viral post 36 million.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
I love it.
I wish we could get a post thathigh.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
It just happens, I
mean.
But all I do I don't.
I have no rhyme or reason, there's always one, but I all I
can tell you.
So if you want a secret toposting on the internet, if you
post, isn't just us talking,it's just us.
No, it's not just us.
I'll give you this.
Come on, tiny play along.
Yes, okay, it's just us.
(19:42):
No, it's not just us.
I'll give you this.
Come on, tiny Play along.
Yes, okay, it's just us.
But I'll give you this secretYou've got to do something that
people don't like.
Okay, it's very key because ifit's people see something they
like and they go, oh, that'scool, something they like, and
(20:05):
they go, oh, that's cool.
And then they scroll on,especially when it comes to
certain whiskey or whatever.
But if you do something and I'mnot saying I would do this, but
if you wiped your mouth andthen touch the glass or
something like that, it's alwaysso when, when hannah was doing
it, she was holding the thiefand she, she put it back in the
(20:28):
barrel and people freaked out.
Now I do hundreds of posts overthat and they don't do that.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
But every once in a
while.
Was that like a post-COVIDthing, or what was that?
Speaker 2 (20:42):
Hmm, that had, let's
see, 20,.
That was probably at the start, because when we were down there
, no, was it post.
No, it was right in the middlebecause we didn't care, we were
just everywhere.
But it's still the same.
(21:03):
So what?
Speaker 1 (21:03):
you're saying is we
need to do something people
don't like?
Speaker 2 (21:08):
no people think
you're doing wrong, even though
you're doing it right.
Whiskey is basically handsanitizer.
It's like the best post I coulddo right now is just take
whiskey over a glass and wash myhands and drop it in the glass
and drink it.
And people, that would getmillions of people just telling
(21:31):
me I'm an idiot and what are youdoing and why would you
contaminate this?
It's just now.
Not all of them do it, but theone.
The other one I did.
I was with Alan Bishop at FrenchLick and I said I said right
before jokingly, I just went tothe bathroom and didn't wash my
hands and that just freakedeverybody out, that we were
(21:51):
thieving.
You know what I mean?
It was like a sarcastic thing, and so it's always based off of
them knowing better.
So if you can think ofsomething you do right that they
don't know about, that theythink they know better and
they're experts.
It just goes crazy.
It's crazy, that's weird.
All right, and if I'm reallynice to people most of the time
(22:15):
I'll take people out on it andI'll be like are you a
germaphobe, are you this?
And I'm kind of mean to them.
But after a while, when theystart getting offended, I'm like
I'm just doing this for theviews, friend, I'm not really
serious, so, but it's like it'sall about.
It's all about the comeback ofpeople commenting, and people
(22:38):
just don't generally comment.
That's why when people dostupid stuff, they all comment
on it.
You ever, you know, whenthey're on there doing stuff and
they fall down, oh, you're sodumb or whatever, and then it
goes viral.
It's never someone doingsomething, unless you're really
good at something.
Like you do something, that'samazing.
But if you just do somethingthat's good, they're just like
(22:59):
no, oh, we lost him.
If he jumps back in, we'll see.
Otherwise, I can finish this up.
That was Walter Zausch ofWhiskey Thief.
Yeah, come on, you can jumpback in, walter, I can handle
(23:23):
that.
All right, we were just talking.
If he jumps back in, I'll gethim back on, otherwise, I don't.
I believe.
Yep, I'm still on.
Thanks, everybody, let's justgo over real quick.
Uh, I got into this podcastaudio wise.
(23:44):
I didn't start it becausewalter jumped on.
Hey, walker, terry.
Uh, I think that was fantastic.
Let's review what walter saidtonight.
Uh, you, we might have awhiskey thief to come.
They are going to be shippingfrom their website, so you will
(24:06):
be able to go to Whiskey ThiefDistilling Company or
WhiskeyThiefcom and you will beable to order off their website
and ship to 41 different states.
So that's some exciting newsthat you got for Whiskey Thief.
Also, as you know, walter, hewas at an event.
(24:30):
I'm sure that he is going on tothe event now.
That's great, but I think thispodcast was a pretty successful
podcast tonight.
I mean, that is one that wasspur of the moment.
I'm glad he jumped in.
He was there with Wally Dant.
He was there with the folksfrom Horse Horse.
(24:51):
Oh my God, I want to say HorseThief, but it's not.
It was Anyone.
Yep Walker, 41 states.
It was Horse Soldier.
He was there with Horse SoldierBardstown Bourbon Company.
He went over and that justlooked like a great event.
(25:14):
So I'm glad that he's going togo back in.
But I will say a little bit moreabout Whiskey Thief.
They opened their tasting roomin Louisville in the New Lou
section.
You've got to check that out.
It's a barrel pick all day,every day.
Uh, for the price at the, either if you're at the
(25:39):
distillery, which is infrankfurt, about 15 minutes away
from buffalo trace, or ifyou're at the tasting room.
Either way, five barrels tochoose from for the price of
admission.
You go in there, you taste fromfive and if you like one, you
can bottle your own.
You can get the little 375 orthe 750 all there for you.
(26:00):
It's a.
It is uh, what would you say?
It is an experience unlike anyother.
I think it's one of the bestexperiences on the bourbon trail
.
So you got to check out WhiskeyThief.
Now, with that said, we'llfinish up with the theme song
tonight.
I'll make sure I do that.
(26:21):
Just know that the amount ofgood whiskey that he's producing
Now they're going to have, nowthat they basically have,
they'll have three bourbons, awheat and a rye, to choose from.
And I'm telling you, whiskey'sgreat, everything's great about
(26:43):
