Come see the Scotchy Bourbon Boys during Kentucky Bourbon Festival week at our special events and tastings. Remember good bourbon equals good times and good friends. Drink responsibly and live your life uncut and unfiltered.

Heaven Hill's Old Fitzgerald bottled-in-bond series has gained a devoted following among wheated bourbon enthusiasts, and the 7-year expression might just be the sweet spot in their lineup. This elegant decanter-style bottle with its distinguished wooden top houses a remarkable spirit that strikes the perfect balance between youthful vibrancy and mature complexity.

When I poured this bourbon into my Glencairn glass, the rich amber liquid immediately caught my attention with its impressive viscosity. At 100 proof, it coats the glass with medium-thick legs that slowly cascade down the sides – a promising indication of the full-bodied experience to come. The nose opens with waves of caramel complemented by subtle ethanol, followed by enticing hints of butterscotch and gentle toasted oak notes that become more pronounced as the whiskey breathes.

The tasting experience truly elevates this bourbon above many of its competitors. That first sip delivers a distinctive toasted coconut butterscotch flavor that sets it apart from other wheated bourbons on the market. The sweetness is perfectly balanced by oak tannins that provide structure without dominating the delicate wheat characteristics – a problem that sometimes affects the older expressions in this series. While the finish isn't extraordinarily long, it leaves a pleasant impression with lingering notes of butterscotch and subtle oak warmth.

At approximately $60, this expression represents excellent value in today's premium bourbon landscape. It earned an impressive 15 out of 18 points on our comprehensive barrel breakdown rating system, with particularly high marks for its exceptional taste profile. Whether you're a dedicated collector or simply looking for a delicious pour to share with friends, the Old Fitzgerald 7-Year delivers a refined experience that showcases Heaven Hill's mastery of wheated bourbon production. Try it alongside other offerings in their wheated portfolio like Larceny or Bernheim Wheat Whiskey for a fascinating comparative tasting experience!

Our bus tour is fantastic.

(14:36):
at Revival and then, as far aspodcasts, that will happen right
from the festival.
You know that's what we got togo for.
So that's what you know we cando and I'm looking forward to it
extensively, looking forward tothis time.
So that brings us to myfavorite segment.

(14:59):
It's the Old Louisville WhiskeyCompany.
You got to check out Amin'splace there in Louisville,
kentucky, the Old LouisvilleWhiskey Company.
You can get a hold of him, call, make an appointment.
What you're talking about, whatAmin's experience?
He's got a nice.
He's got a nice gift shopavailable bottles, but what his

(15:21):
real?
He doesn't sell anything underseven years old and he has a
barrel collection fromeverywhere in his warehouse and
what he releases?
He releases some fantastic whathe he gets whiskey from,
purchases it from differentplaces.
Then he puts it in otherbarrels, so then sometimes it's
like a French oak barrel orwhatnot.

(15:42):
Sometimes he leaves it in thebarrel for, let's say, he buys a
eight year something or anotherand he lets it go.
So he's released 16 and 17 yearold barrel strength whiskey
that he's aging in his warehouseright there at his place in uh
old louisville whiskey companyand he takes you around and you

(16:03):
could sample some of thosebottles.
That's what's going to happenon this trip.
Uh, call to make a reservation, come in groups.
Uh, he loves, he does a greatjob and uh, we can't wait to see
him because he's going to bepart of our bus tour this year

(16:24):
and, with Whiskey Thief and OldLouisville being our sponsors, I
can't wait.
This is just going to be afantastic bus tour, so can't
wait to see you, amin.
So the way the Old LouisvilleWhiskey Company barrel bottle
breakdown works is the ratingscale goes of four categories

(16:46):
Nose, taste, body, finish.
Now on the categories, you canget up to four barrel knocks on
the barrel for the nose and thebody and up to five barrel
knocks on the taste and thefinish.
So let's open this baby and seewhat happens.

(17:11):
Now, a lot of times with wheatwhiskeys as Ed Bly has said many
times from Rising Tide Spiritsis that a wheat whiskey is more
delicate.
So sometimes when you open itup it basically has been put in

(17:31):
the bottle and it takes a whilefor it to get better.
Wow, here we go.
This is going to be a new crack.
Here it comes.
It wasn't very loud so, excuseme, the protein shake that I had

(18:01):
today didn't go down real well,I don't know why.
I think I had had too many noteating enough getting ready for
this awesome tour.
And you know thing, I've beenpushing the exercise, eating
healthy, extra vitamin C.
So here we go in my glass.
All right.

(18:22):
I mean, this is like a newthing for the bottled in bond
seven year.
It's got a nice it's not thefull decanter bottle.
The top is a decanter with anice wood top.
This bottle, uh, I believe johnsaid um, if I'm not great.
I believe john said that, theprice, what was it?

(18:49):
118 somewhere around there.
I'm not exactly sure he mightbe able to chime in and let me
know Fantastic nose, justcaramel.
There is a lot of caramel onthere, it's a hundred proof.

(19:11):
There's a little bit of ethanol.
Okay, he said it was 60, sothat's decent.
I think I forget which one 50,he said59.99.

(19:34):
So which is a really good price.
What was the bottle then that wegot?
That was one something.
I forget what it was.
You picked up for me.
All right, nice, I like thenose.

(20:07):
I know as we go this'll nose,the ethanol, that, but it's 100
proof.
So it's there.
Let's see what it does.
As far as body in this glen, Ilove to roll, roll the glens.
I poured the right amount to beable to do this.
All right, come on, baby.
So the great thing about thistasting glass is you can do this

(20:30):
and this is called coating thesidewalls.
And then, as you pick it up,you look at what happens in the
glass.
Now it's a hundred proof weeded.
So a lot of times there's alittle thin, but those legs are
starting, they come, they'recoming down and they're pretty
thick.
It's not thin and it sticks tothe walls for a nice clear coat.

(20:52):
And then, as it starts to go,yeah, yeah, there, they are over
here, nice, so the body shouldbe decent.
The Star Hill Farms, thank you,was the 118.
Mmm, wow, wow, ooh, oh, thankyou.

(21:46):
The reaper cheers, thank you.
Um, what, what you drinking onman tonight?
Good to see you.
I think I put this one backtogether a little bit better,
but we're not going to have anymusic at the end either, unless
I can figure something elsethere, because I don't have my
sound working, which upsets mefor the last one.
But all right.
So the old willowville whiskey,a seven-year weeding?

(22:17):
Well, it can't be.
It can be, but it can't be 120,because this is the bottled in
bond tracy.
But thank you for acknowledgingthat you have a seven-year
weeded mash bill at 120.
That is very good.
Um, wow, what was that?

(22:41):
There was a flavor on the tons.
That's butterscotch, like atoasted, almost like a toasted

(23:04):
coconut butterscotch.
Wow, on the finish.
The finish is light, light.
Oh, she's talking about the oldlouisville.

(23:24):
Okay, there you go.
Let's see what mine is, this oldlouisville.
Right here I've got a couple ofbottles, but this is the one
that I use, because one of themis my original bottle, which is
kentucky tiny one, which was aFrench oak and, uh, it's a.
What did I do here?
It's like I don't usually havethis tied in a knot.

(23:45):
Someone tied it in a knot, notme.
Oh, that's awesome, let's justget this.
Uh, there we, there we go, Igot it All right.
So this one is an eight-year120 proof.
That was a present from CT andit's a damn good bottle.

(24:07):
Old Louisville does a reallynice job, there's no doubt about
it, uh-uh.
So let's get back to the.
Uh.
All right, we are ready to dothe ranking.

(24:38):
I really like it.
I like it a lot.
That is really good.
Good Caramel and there's just atoasted oak aspect to it, a

(24:58):
little bit of butterscotch onthe nose.
I'd say, out of four, this nosegets three knocks.
Now, body For 100 proof.

(25:31):
It just doesn't quite hit yourcheeks, but that is a three body
All right.
The strong point is the tastefor a weeded.
This is pretty damn good, really really drinkable.

(26:07):
I'm going to give the taste afive.
Now, the finish is happening, the finish is fantastic.

(26:33):
But Now, remember John, nowremember john you can give five
points in the taste and thefinish.
This finish is short.
I do like it what's left, soI'm gonna give it a four out of
five.
So the total on this was 15 outof 18.

(26:58):
Um, I like this more than someof the older old fits, because
some of the older old fix deal alittle bit too much in oak for
me.
So so I'm going to go.
So the Old Louisville BarrelBottle Breakdown Old Louisville

(27:20):
Whiskey Company Barrel BottleBreakdown.
Rating of Old Fitzgeraldtonight 15 out of 18.
Not bad.
Three and three is six and fiveand four is nine for a total of

(27:42):
15.
Thank you, amin, for sponsoringthe podcast.
We appreciate it.
Everybody you should check outOld Louisville Whiskey Company.
Fantastic place to go.
I mean, what Amin's got thereis an experience that's not like
every other experience outthere.

(28:02):

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
