I first saw the movie. Iknow, it's probably nothing like the movie.

was just like, dude, Iwas just like so so intrigued. And
so I was really young when theDogtown crew was coming up, and I
only knew about them in the magazines, and so I know, I'm I'm
old, but a lot of peopleassociate me somehow with that era. I

was like, dude, when thoseguys were coming up, I was was
like eight or nine, um,and just reading about them in the magazines.
But when I saw when I sawTony Alva and um Jay Adams doing
aerials in the magazines, that forme, that was everything. I was
like, Oh, that's what Iwant to do. I want to fly.
Fuck, that's it. Yeah.It's kind of like when when I

saw like i'd say, like maybeMatt Archibald or like some of those guys
doing the first airs. Yeah,dude, I still can't do an air,
yeah, right on a surfboard,I can't. I can't. You
must have done little ones like Idid. I could do the backside chop

push my weight forward and stay ontop of my feet. That's all because

I've done one. And it wason like this little short board with the

out. So I had one ofthose, and like I used it and
like did my first air but itwas my friends. So what about what
about like at a wave pool wherethey set up the air section? I
blow it, dude, really,I tried to do it. I was

at Waco and we turned that on. I was there with my kids and
h The first time I got Iwas way behind it, and then I
finally got ahead of it. Andthen as I saw it coming, I
didn't know how to like maintain myspeed for it. So I basically just
did a floater or on the button the mound of water because right then
it sucks up too. Yeah,so that that down, I'll find a

launching pad. Yeah, it waslike riding it out. It's so weird.
You need like the perfect line like, yeah, one of our kids.
Actually he found the line, buthe's going backside and he didn't pop
out, so he just went overthe back and then hit the bottom.

over there for the first wave thatgot pumped out. It was pretty cool
a Waco. They filled up likehalfway and we got there were like slip
insides, cool, cable parks cool, but let's surf. Yeah. So
they finally like filled it up halfway. We're gonna see if the generators work.
So the pumps worked and it pumpedout this little left that was like

this big and it was like littleChopu and me, Jamie and Shane were
just riding it. It was prettycool. So I go to I go
to wake Up. I'm like,yeah, I'm the one who wrote the
first wave, like local's only brother. That's pretty good, Like it's pretty
cool claim, but yeah, wakegoes fun. But yeah, once you
get that line down though, youjust launch. Yeah. I haven't really

been able to surf since I brokemy leg, but I know, yeah,
I was gonna ask you about yourfemur house. But I'm I'm I
think I'm getting back to that point. Yeah, I can, dude,
he just got out of like afemur in injury. And what was injury?
Yeah, I was, I gonnasay, I don't know. I
broke my femur in half on Marchseventh, March seven, so that's like
almost six months, seven months now, seven months. Yeah, yeah,

and you were skating like a monthafter. Yeah. Yeah, but it
wasn't the kind of skating I wasreally I seen you do or whatever.
Yeah. Yeah, No, it'ssick though. I seen you like do
the little step step thing. Yeah. And then it's been hard though.
I really thought. I thought,because I was walking so early, that
I was on this trajectory to befully healed within six months or so.
And um, now that I'm atsix months, I know that I'm still

a long ways off. Really,I'm able to skate, I'm able to
do basic tricks and stuff, butyeah, I don't have the speed and
I still can't rely on it.So my like I had to find a
balance point that's kind of in theback seat, and that kills your speed.

to test it yet. Oh I'mtesting it. Yeah, I just can't.

the outskirts of my school district.Where was that, um, well in
in uh in North County in Cardiff, because my parents moved to North County,
San Diego when I was when Iwas in high school, when I

when you like stay stay at nightat a friend's house and you watch something

else, everyone else was you know, back in the pushing the pushing the
shopping carts and doing all the stuff, and they were all hamming it up
and getting hurt and getting in trouble, but no one was trying out for
the actual cast. Yeah, mostof them were probably a little too drunk

mean, well, that's like Jeff'sJeff's kind of job. But like I
come in and just I'm just ready, I come in. I'm like,
put me in, coach, Idon't even really look at it. It's
like they need that's what they've whatwe got to do, Like those are

pretty like on point. But yeah, I'm ready, I'm I'm ready to
send it. So but the creativityis fun, Like it's fun like getting

you want some food or drink.I'm like, yeah, let's get some
food. And then all of asudden, it's just like boom one of

The team was insane pioneers of skateboarding. Yeah, the ones who ushered in
the era of pool skating. Andthat's why that would maybe want to be
a skater, because at the time, either you skated pools like those guys,

or you skated freestyle, and freestyleis not is not what it is
today, Like it's it wasn't streetskating. It was literally people doing three
sixties and pirouettes and and spacewalks andsix shit. I mean it was it
was difficult, but it was justmore like dancing and this is not like
and and for the most part theywere all labeled as as dorks and nerds

because they were dancing and it wasjust like it was and we these other
guys were flying and so was theteam. Yeah yeah, and so I
wanted to fly, and so that'swhat I focused on completely. Like when
I was a kid, and Igot hurt along the way, like when
I was when I was ten,I got knocked my front teeth out.

I got KOed because I was tryingto do the stuff they were doing.
Yep, was it top or bottom? Top? Yeah, I hadn't replaced
like five times. Now they lookgood, thanks. Yeah. The best
thing about losing your teeth is youcan pick the shape and color of the
new ones. Yep, you're like, okay, they're gonna be a little

want to lose some teeth soon.Hopefully it's not a hard doing. Yeck,
that's sick. Um. And thenthey're like surfing as well, Yeah,
the kind of the surfer like punkvibe. Um. Yeah, they
were for sure. Yeah. Andmy brother you're surfing out the time a
little bit. My brother was asurfer, hardcore surfer. He's thirteen years
older than me, and so hewas the one who was into skating.

He's the reason I got into skating. I see. So he was he
was skating around our house with hisfriends and there's an old board next to
him, and I was like,oh, let me try that. Yeah,
that's how I started on board witheverything else. You're like, whoa,
what's this? Um? It wasn'tI was bored. It was just
suddenly something spoke to me where itwas like, Oh, I can do
this on my own terms. AndI don't have to listen to the coach.

I don't have to show up practicefreedom. Yeah, and I don't
like the team doesn't have to relyon me to win. Yeah, there's
no pressure. It's all it's allyou, dude, That's what And I
would and I would surf with mybrother, but I was I was terrified
a big waves and getting held under. Yeah, especially to get used to
that's hard to get used to,for sure. Do you ever get used
to it? Can you get morerelaxed? Yeah, you get more relaxed.

There's yea, And then there's there'smoments where it's not sixty feet it's
thirty feet, where you're like,oh, like your falls are thirty feet
you're like chilling, you know,You're just like, oh, yeah,
I think it's fun. I knowI'm coming up. I was, I
was getting fifty feet, were like, oh, I'm gonna die. But
yeah, I'm talking more like that. That's that's that's faces though I'm not
surfing them, like I just getput in the position and I'm like,

what am I doing out here?And then usually the boys are calling me
to the zone. So I'll saywhat. I surfed all through the years,
got a little bit braver as timewent on, you know, and
then found myself confidence. Yeah,but also found myself in with opportunities like
I got to go toe and servingwith with Laird and Dave Klama. That's

legendary, right yeah, um,those guys are legends, yep, Spreckles
and so that gave me, Butthat gave me a sense of false confidence
because it was so they were sodialed in and it's kind of so safe
with them. Yeah, but itwas still the biggest wave of every Safety
is everything in big waves, likeright, if you don't have the right
safety, dude. But then Iwent to I went to um Tavarua Sack

and surf cloud Breaks and to mymistake caught the first wave of the set.
Oh dude, no, yeah,I don't know it was. I
was in position and so I'm lookingat the face like I've ridden twenty foot
ramps. I'm i'ming this is probablylike an eight, and at some point

Like snap into it. And thenI wrote it and I wrote it too
far kicked out, and then there'sone just jacking right behind it. And
that's the worst. That was themoment where I was like, the world,

dive, but my board was tombstoning. You don't duck dive. I mean,

I did ditch it, but Iwas like, what do I do?
So I dish it. I'm tombstoning. For a while I had tombstoning
yeah, free and like I didn'trealize that it would get that deep,
right, I said, I'm hitbottom, yeah, And then there was
one behind it, the same thing, and then well it wasn't hold down,
like I came up up one breathand one breath, came back down

and then I went. Then Iwent to the boat and I was like
I'm not going off for this.Yeah. And my brother came over and
he's like, you should get backout there because if you quit now,
you're going to be scared of surfing. Yep, got forward. That's when
you know you survived it though Iknow, but I didn't go back out.
But I didn't. I didn't catchanywhere. Yeah, I just sat
in the line up like cheering onmy Yeah. That's the moment where you

like you could take your big wavecareer to the to the top or you
know. That was that was Thatwas the That was the turning point where
I was like yeah, and thenand then not long yeah no, And
then not long after the sort ofwave pool phenomenon came to me and I
was like like this over here,this is a skate park. Yeah.
Yeah, you know I'm drowns.Yeah, fight the crowds. I don't

have to figure out the schedule,worry about dying. Yeah. Well,
I mean, and also you knowgnarly too. You know, there's currents
and there's like it's like more powerful, it's like different swell directions, you
know, and like more energy.I had a couple of good waves at

break it was once you keep gettingwork, it's it's hard to come back
from that for sure. Yeah.I remember the moment where I was like
charging huge waves with Jamie. Yeah, and I was like, dude,
I could take my like big wavessurfing, Like I can make it a
career right now if I wanted to. But dude, yeah, like I

was catching bombs at like mccaha,and like I was catching bombs at the
big wave zones, like I caughtone at Phantoms. I was pretty big
and Maya and dude. Then theytook me to Jaws and I didn't want
any part of it, dude.I was like, I'm not a big
wave surfer. Dude, Like,no, I don't. Jamie's like,
come on, you're going out.I'm like no, dude. It was

like I kept my shoes on theboat and everything. Dude. They're like
trying to take my shoes off.Dude. They're like, you're going out.
I'm like, no, I'm not, Dude, did you go out?
I ended up going out the nextday because the first time I went
to the Jaws, I hid inthe bushes, so they're gonna find me
and they're like, where's poopies onin the bushes? Dude with the Damian
he's he's a cameraman. So Iwas just cruising with him. But yeah,

dude, They're like, where wereyou. I was like, dude,
I'm not going out the Jaws rightnow. You guys are crazy.
Yeah, And then I would declineyeah, They're like, well you're getting
paid poops. I was like,freak, but yeah. The next day.
The next day, I paddled outfrom the rocks and it was so
gnarly. Dude. I caught onewave and it was like a wave with
the boogie boarder, you know whatI mean. It was a small one,

but yeah, I had priority.Yeah, my first wave. Dude,
pity, I don't know, probablyhim for sure. For sure.
He's one of the boys though,so he was cool as cool. But
yeah, I remember this one timethough, my second time where I was
on the boat because then they're like, you can't hide now, poopies are
on the boat. You can't whereare you gonna go now? So I

was stuck on the boat in thechannel at Jaws and we roll up and
I see this guy just do doughnuts. Dude, down, I'm like,
I can't go out there like youguys are crazy, you have life vest.
Yeah, I had a CEO twobest and then um, I was
like, I'm not going out.They're like, yeah, you are.
And then Jamie starts trying to takeoff my shoes and Kalawnie Chapman's trying to
take off my shoes. And thenI didn't go out and they're like,

you pussy, and I was like, dude, I'm not one of you
guys. You know, I'm fromCarl's Bad, Like I grew up serving
State Beach where it's like three feetcloseouts, you know, and like.
And then so the next day itwas like all right, poopies, it's
your time. Like that morning wehad a huge like prayer and circle with
all the big wave guys, umMalamo's there, all those guys, and

then we left. That would bemy warning sign, we're gonna do prayer
before you go out. Yeah,not cut off for this one, yeah,
dude, but dude. And thenthat's when I had the whole safety
on me, like everyone kind ofjust it was Poopi's turn. So the
whole the whole lineup was like,Poopies, it's your turn. Like this
is you And then yeah, theytowed me in on a penis board and
it was like the stance was soclose together, dude, it was norly

and then but I made it,dude. And then they said toll him
deeper, and I go what Itold the producer, yeah, right,
your trip and told me in deeperbecause they wanted me to fall. They
wanted to poopies wipe out at Jaws, you know, they wanted that viral
clip that I never gave him.But yeah, I was like after that,
it was normally and then we're Iwas paddling before them the toe wins

and I remember I was on theWest peak and then Shane Doran was out
there and Shane, Shane goes,poopies, come over here, and I
got called to the north peak ofJaws and it's like sixty foot pass and
then all of a sudden, thishuge fucking bomb set comes in and Shane
goes poopies pad. Dude. I'mlike sitting next to him. Yeah,
I'm like, I know I'm notin the best spot and like I'm like

fucked, But and then the setcomes in and Shane goes poopies paddle.
I go, oh, my I'mgonna freaking die right now. And then
all of a sudden, all thatwhen we get over at Boom, all
that wind clears and there's not awave, not a wave after it,
thank god. So that's what I'mI like, Thank god there wasn't a
wave after that one, because Iwould have been dead. But yeah,

I was like, I'm never goingback to jaws, have never been back,
but it's time to water ski it. Maybe this year I'm back my
