This is just a short little conversation that we had a few weeks back when we were having our study time. Then, David was like we need to record this so write down what we talked about! And, we are finally recording this!
What a concept. Jesus spoke these statements to people back in his time, and these were radical commandments: love God & love others. But, here you will hear us speaking more about the second commandment of loving others as yourself.
We Christians, especially within the church, feel like we have to always be serving IN the church in order to love others. But, then we burn ourselves out and we forget the WHY we are serving... It's all BECAUSE of God's love in us. What about ourselves? Are we supposed to put ourselves, spouse, and family in the back-burner for the sake of obeying the commandment of "loving others"? No, we love others as we love OURSELVES. Here are some main points below....
--Remember to think of yourself too when you love others. Don’t put yourself & your family on the back burner. Then, you won’t have anything else left to give because you have nothing left. Remember to have your personal time with God. Be refreshed to serve.
--There is a fine balance in taking care of yourself & selfish self-care.
--Serving in church is not the ONLY time to "love others". (But, it is a big part of our lives, we are not ruling it out.)
--Try not to serve out of law but out of love.
--Don't sacrifice SO much time spent with spouse/partner, family, & friends to serve all the time.
